Although the Golden Chippy have nice chips you do tend to spend more time waiting for them to be cooked as I'm sure the guy only puts them in after you've ordered.

As for customer service I prefer that from the two brothers that own 'Pier' in more central greenwich as I overheard the guy in the Golden Chippy telling a couple that their order would have come quicker if me and my partner hadn't of asked such a large order. I found that quite rude considering that if you run a business you should be glad of all the business you get.

Everytime I go past that area it reminds me of a monopoly from a monopoly board as the guy owns all three businesses there. I'm waiting for the prices to double as they would do in a normal game of monopoly. lol

On your recommendation we had fish and chips there on Friday and as they fried our fish for us and we had to wait we were offered a glass of wine on the house! The fish was very fresh and moist and the chips were good too. Thanks phantom.

Talking of long-gone chippies, who remembers Hardinges, approximately where the Lloyds TSB branch on Creek Rd is now? Best cod roe and chips in London!
Grumpy old bugger, but sure could cook proper fish and chips, and would always serve local regulars before tourists! This also used to be the case in the Richard I on Royal Hill - I've had pints to me literally over the heads of tourists! Ah the good old days...

I used to go to the one that is now the Bombay Bicycle Club (which is terrible, btw) and was always staggered how many people went to KFC next door by comparison to the chippy.

The Golden Chippy is good and very friendly- but so is Mr Fast Fry- next to Glenister Gardens. They are more than happy to cook a nice piece of plaice as a special order.

Great to have several good chippies locally as the credit crunch may have put an end to my modest aspiration to perhaps one day think about a meal at The Hill (only joking- sort of).

Nice to get a recommendation for a good chippy. There were a couple near me in Trafalgar Road but they've both closed, one is now ZEN the other still empty! Years ago and I mean years, you were falling over them in Greenwich but times have changed.

Can't somehow see the new Greenwich residents who inhabit the posh apartments springing up all over the place popping out for "Cod, chips and a pickled onion".

Thanks for the recommendation. Since the closure of "Family Fish and Chips" on Bramshot Ave (SE7 so just off the Greenwich haunt)I've been looking for somewhere that could match their quality if not their slightly eccentric service. Sadly most places I have tried have served either soggy batter, soggy chips or in one case, both.

My current favourite is on Charlton Church Lane almost next door to Chu and Cho, but I'll now give the Golden Chippy a chance to shine through.
