So it was with some trepidation that I made my way to The Star and Garter to catch their second (or possible third) set of the afternoon.<BR/><BR/>I wasn't disappointed. Their set mixed real old-time favorites with a clutch of new wave and 80's numbers. I could have done with a bit more soul but that’s just me and I don't know what I would want them to leave out to make way for it.<BR/><BR/>They are great musicians, one and all- with the women vocalists bringing something extra. I hung my tears out to dry and they were blown away by Mike Paice's sax playing- I'm sure he is actually even better than I recall. Tich Turner is also an excellent front man. The addition of a final 'Don't You Want Me Baby' was a fine touch- though not one that Tich and former vocal sparring partner from those ancient times, Marilyn Gentle, could ever have covered without it ending in blood on the dance floor. We are geared up for the annual London Marathon but to close roads at a week's notice,effectively sealing Westcombe Park area off for 6 hours on Sunday is so cavalier - and they (organisers and our Council) know they are in the wrong as I have managed to negotiate some concessions to allow people in wheelchairs to my Sunday lunch party.........so anyone think that the Olympics won't affect us?? Hundreds of temporary buildings, broadcast compounds, farriers, restaurants, security fencing, floodlighting, sewage, drainage and more.I cannot understand why anyone who cares about our park or environment would support such a hammering when it could be so much better and so more welcome and better staged elsewhere. We left them as they went off for the Observatory "backstage" tour. They also made an interesting observation in that we have a lot of large old buildings here and rather than being the cold and foreboding type, they are warm and inviting. Which may have something to do with the Autumn sun , the fact they are open to the Public, and the lovely sounds of Jazz and classical music you hear as you walk through the ORNC!(maybe the wine at lunch?)<BR/>Yep, I agree Phantom, a beutiful time of year!<BR/>Did anyone get to see all the candles lit in the park on Friday night?Benedicthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13551278750359989063noreply@blogger.com
