Xtreme Terrain Festival is special. Why?

Firstly it is the largest day of cross country racing. Where duathletes, triathletes, aquathletes and 10k runners converge on one area to race in their chosen event during the course of a morning and only 40 minutes from London. Along with the usual (optional) wetsuits for the open water swim, mountain bikes and off road running trainers is the order of the day.
Secondly no matter what the weather during the prior days / weeks, the sun always seems to shine on this day of racing.

Sure enough, right on cue on Saturday 27th September the mist burned away to reveal the lake in all its sparkling splendor. Divine intervention? Possibly. But whatever the trick was, the out, back, round the island and exit and re-entry swim course was devoured by the aquathletes and triathletes. On land the course also did not fail to satisfy. The bike course was a 6km lap combining endurance, adrenaline surging downhill and short, sharp, lung-busting climbs! The bikers got quicker and quicker as the course became more and more familiar. However, for some cramp had something to say about that!
The run was a 5k lap which started off pleasant enough but soon descended into muddy tracks. However all mud soon dried off on the stretch across the open heath land bathed in sunshine. Although for those racing in the10k earlier in the morning it was more like running on misty moorland and through foggy forest!

Race organisers all about triathlons say that x country aquathlons, duathlons and triathlons are fast becoming serious race propositions. Athletes now train specifically for these events. No longer are they considered a race to do as a “nice way to finish off the season”.allabouttriathlonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09401138464334970325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3737365451807918466.post-76115268583134896482008-01-17T06:24:00.000-08:002008-04-10T05:58:15.217-07:00Snow + Rock G3268 people arrived for the first Snow + Rock G3 run.
