Mother Nature's Helping Hand

Dear Aunt Christina,

When we were crossing Texas to get to Mexico, a storm blew in. We saw a small opening through the dust and went inside.

All of a sudden, we saw something move… two things to be precise. Through the camera lens we saw two dragons. I don't know what kind they were, but they looked like blue rhinos. This was a mother teaching her baby how to breath lightening. It was a beautiful sight.

We knew if you got close to a mother dragon's hatchling it would get over protective and, well… I won't say that part.

It seemed like the mother dragon was very good at breathing lightning so we didn't want to get to close, but the baby seemed so cute! Emma didn't think so—she thought the mother was cool. We had to hold Pinkerdoo, he would have chased the dragons away. But if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have spotted the dragons.

Uncle Marcus was stunned. He was just looking at those dragons like they were a work of art! After that we had to get a new camera because sand blew in it.

Our first dragon sighting and Draco families

Dear Aunt Christina,

Today I'm going to tell you the dragon families. Well, the first family is the English family called Ridge Dragons. The second family is 4 Limbed Dragons. The third family is 2 Limbed Dragons. And last but not least, the serpent dragons.

The dragon families are found worldwide. The Ridge Dragons are the most popular. The Ridge Dragon gets its name from the ridges on their backs. They appear in stories such as The Hobbit, St George and the Dragon, and Fairy Tales such as Sleeping Beauty.

The most famous 4 Limbed Dragon is the Wyvern. It can grow up to 50 feet long and 18 to 20 feet high. Really, it's the most dangerous animal in Africa. The most common way they appear is they have two legs and two wings or they can have 4 legs and no wings.

Two Limbed Dragons are the least common dragons in the world. There are only two world wide! The most famous Two Limbed Dragon is the Amphithere. It is only found in two places, Mexico and South America. They were worshiped in ancient Mesoamerica and are also known as feathered serpents.

The next dragon is a Serpent Dragon. Today we saw an amazing sight! A 30 foot long animal jumped out of the ocean while I was sun-tanning. It splashed me with water and I could only draw one picture and you're looking at it:

This dragon was a Knucker dragon. A Knucker is a serpent dragon because it doesn't have any limbs. They live either on land in Knucker Holes or in the ocean. These dragons are beautiful because they pop near you and splash you. It looks like you're in a downpour because of all the water splashing up from that muscle of a tail.

I hope you like that picture. It had a beautiful orange color that I colored the best I could but I was kind of in a hurry because Uncle Marcus wanted us to leave.

A New Team Member

Dear Aunt Christina,

We were heading to a small town to get supplies when we ran into Uncle Markus again. We discussed what we were doing with him and we saw that he had a present for us. It was a small runt of a puppy and we named him Pinkerdoo. His fur was scruffy but pink. A slight dragger sometimes (that means stubborn).

We got the rest of our supplies. More first aid. We needed sneeze powder in case any dragons came along and decided they wanted to eat us. If a dragon came and decided to eat us we would blow it on their noses, it would itch, scratch and tickle, and then, ACHOO!! The sneezing dragon wouldn't notice that we snuck away.

Our Fifth Day - Clues of a Dragon

Dear Aunt Christina,

Would you like to know how we're doing right now? If you are, I'll tell you. We're doing fine on our quest to find dragons.

We've found some remnants of dragons. We found a footprint and a possible egg. We did a test on the egg today and found out that it wasn't an egg. It was a regular rock. I was disappointed. I really wanted to find the first dragon!

I believe the footprint was a real dragon footprint! In the picture you'll see the footprint next to what we thought was an egg. The footprint was about the size of my foot, but a little bit longer. I think this dragon that stepped by was probably a gold dragon in his form of a juvenile.

I believe we will find a dragon soon!

Our first day

Dear Aunt Christina,

We are going on our dragon adventures today. We have a first aid kit and each other. I'm in charge of the camera and Emma is in charge of the binoculars. Uncle Marcus? Who knows where he is... he may be in Florida, or somewhere.

We will write to you often about what dragons we've found.

We hope to prove that dragons exist and can be raised by humans.

Welcome to Dragon Hannah's web log! I'm Dennis West, a Graphic Designer with a very creative daughter. This site is her outlet for creating her dragon stories. She's 10 years old and loves to make up stories. She'll be writing under her pseudonym Dragon Hannah as she chronicles her adventures with her assistant Emma in the form of letters to her Aunt Christina.

The name she's given my character is Uncle Marcus, so I'll probably pop up every now and then too. I'll also be creating the illustrations of the dragons that will appear in her entries. Also included will be her "field drawings" of the dragons she encounters.
