The UFT Teacher Center, in collaboration with New York Institute of Technology, is offering a 15- credit Certificate in Teaching 21st Century Skills.
This program is designed to prepare K-16 teachers to use technology in interdisciplinary teaching, employing authentic project-based curriculum and instruction. Taught by instructional technology practitioner faculty, the courses are designed to address 21st century skills and are offered in a variety of formats: online, virtual, video conference, in-person symposia and professional conferences. Candidates must hold a BA or BS degree and a NYS teaching certificate to participate.

From January through May of 2009, donors funded $6,704,265 worth of resources for students in need. Follow Presidential Footsteps People to People Ambassador Programs has announced Presidential Leadership: In the Footsteps of Presidents Obama and Lincoln, a new summer travel program that provides students the opportunity to learn important leadership skills by following the political footsteps of Presidents Obama and Lincoln. The program features unique insight from NBC News correspondent Luke Russert, who reports on youth issues for NBC Nightly News, The Today Show and MSNBC; and political strategist David Plouffe, best known as the chief campaign manager for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. Students taking part in this historic travel experience will also participate in a community-service project with Chicago Cares, the city’s largest hands-on volunteer organization that serves the needs of children, adults, seniors, the environment, the hungry and homeless. Technology Interns from CUNY

College students from the City University of New York (CUNY) are available to assist your school with its technology needs. The Division of Instructional and Information Technology (DIIT) and CUNY are working together to deliver high-quality interns, willing and able to provide support in the following areas:

Setting up new computer equipment in classrooms and offices
Installing software
Ensuring that LCD projectors, smart boards, and other related audio/video equipment are functioning
Troubleshooting hardware and software problems in conjunction with DOE Help Center and borough technology staff
Configuring wireless devices to access DOE network
Maintaining classroom servers
Maintaining technology equipment inventory
Monitoring equipment and working with Help Center to ensure timely repair
Providing assistance in use of technology equipment
Coordinating with MOUSE Squad, if applicable

These interns are working toward degrees in computer-related fields and are screened by both a program manager at CUNY and a borough technology manager at DIIT. Interns receive 12 hours of classroom and field training from DIIT on a range of topics, including network troubleshooting, wireless configuration, HSST, instructional software, and network printing.

You can hire an intern for either 14 or 19 hours a week. Participating schools will receive on-site technology support for 39 weeks of the year, from August 31 through June 30 (excluding school breaks). Hiring an intern for 14 hours a week costs $9,600 (FAMIS # DIIT00001). Hiring an intern for 19 hours a week costs $12,500 (FAMIS # DIIT00002).

After you complete the following three steps, CUNY will confirm your space in the program:

1. Schedule the appropriate funds in Galaxy in object code 998, Internal Services.
2. Purchase the service from DIIT in the FAMIS E-Catalog.
3. Complete the registration form (which CUNY will e-mail to principals whose schools have completed purchases in FAMIS).

DOE Email on your iPhone, Windows Mobile, or Exchange compatible device

Many of you have asked if you can get your DOE email on your cell phone.

Sherif discovered a way to do this and it will work with any phone that has Microsoft Exchange technology for email (the iPhone has it, Windows Mobile phones have it, some Nokia phones have it)...

In the exchange server settings put mail.nycboe.net and use your DOE email username and password.

Contacts, Calendar, Email, and Tasks will all synchronize.
