Warlocks: Victorious!

Congratulations to A41 for stomping his way to another alleycat victory. The tallest of the Warlocks fended off 82 other contestants to win big $ and the Re-Load/PBR bag at Bars + Stripes 4 yesterday. Honorable mentions to both P86 and C43 for finishing in the top ten as well. Nice work gents.

Please ride with us on Wednesday, June 17th to commemorate the tragic deaths of three Boise cyclists, Jim Chu, Kevin Pavlis and Tom Bettger, and to increase driver awareness. • The ride (about 20 mi) will start and end in Camel's Back at 6:45.

• Please wear black, and if you like, please write a message you'd like motorists to hear on the back of your shirt.

• Also, please bring flowers for Jim, Kevin and Tom to leave at the sites where they were hit.

We're all angry, but please bear in mind, the intention of this ride is not to piss motorists off, but to increase awareness and express our grief (as well as make a statement that we are here, we are outraged about these needless deaths, and we demand respect and the slice of road to which we're entitled). Keep that in mind as you go into this ride. My gut reaction was to have a true disruptive "critical mass" but after considering the email replies I've gotten, I think we might get our message out better if our level of disruption wasn't quite so overt. We want safer drivers who are more aware of cyclists and the recognition that there are a lot of us out there.

I think this will make a big statement, all of us riding together with flowers, in black.

This coincides with some of your group rides. Do this instead. Bring your friends.

Our thoughts go out to the friends and family of 37 year old Kevin Pavlis, a cyclist killed on Hill road last night. He worked at IMT and was a member of Lactic Acid Cycling Club with whom he was riding. He is survived by a wife and a two year old daughter. He is the third cyclist killed in Boise in less than a month so let's be careful out there. Go HERE and HERE for details.

Two Men and a Baby...

We had decided to host an Alleycat Race in Boise. We heard that someone had thrown one in the past 'maybe' but were sure that we were bringing something new to the city of trees. We posted flyers everywhere with 3M spray adhesive. We put flyers on bikes. We got the attention of Thrive magazine who wrote a story about our race. When I showed to the interview at the Lucky 13 with a baby instead of a bike they were definitely disappointed but, you know, life happens. The article sucked anyway so whatever. When we set up for registration at the Lucky 13 we were giddy with excitement and started drinking early. As we gathered a crowd of participants passers by were wondering what the hell was going on. I think we registered just over twenty racers that included everyone from the spandex and don't rag-clad enthusiast to the tattooed cruiser riding cool guys to everyone in between. Stops were as follows:

We can't find our list of winners list but am pretty sure that Jason Bauer won this one to set a precedent and was very closely followed by Nikos Sawyer. It sure was fun. So much fun that we decided to start planning Hellracer....

The VeloPark ho-down has been washed out. Don't ride all the way out there in hopes of seeing some gnarly, downhill dirt action. It's nothin' but mud, mud, mud.

The VeloCache Alleycat is still happening though.

If by some small miracle my sinus infection clears up enough to make me want to be vertical for more than 25 minutes, I'll see ya there. Super bummed to be missing this one, the format is killer and will undoubtably be a good time.

The Amstel Gold Race is tomorrow (Sunday). 31 climbs over 258.6 Kilometers (160.7 miles) on narrow roads with drunk Dutch fans everywhere. Sweet! AND it's named after a beer. Sweet!
