Addition and subtraction of events was possible, as well as the possibility to chromatically correct the output during performance. David could program his MANIAC sequencer to play a background rhythm or combination of musical events, to then improvise over the top with another instrument or synthesizer.

The Kaleidophon was a double-bass-like instrument using four velocity-sensitive ribbon controllers instead of strings. The instrument is played entirely using the left hand, leaving the right hand free to manipulate the sound via a number of controllers and a joystick.

David speaks about the processes of making electronic music, and the developments that such possibilities can provide for the imaginative electronic musician. This excerpt is taken from the BBC 1979 documentary entitled "The New Sound of Music" hosted by Michael Rodd." - thanks to JeffreyPlaide

Talking Piano

A "speaking piano" reciting the Proclamation of the European Environmental Criminal Court at World Venice Forum 2009. This may sound like a step backwards to Sound Engineers who amass a large collection of mics specifically because of their unique character of coloration. David Swartz assures those not to worry. The laser mic can be used a standard reference. Once the pure sound is recorded all colouring can be applied later removing the uncertainty behind microphones. Obviously a solid reference mic would be very useful in applications like Antares Mic Modeller.

via Dvice

Primeloops Free Samples

Prime Loops, providers of low-cost, high quality sample packs are giving away 200MB of free samples from several of their releases. It's an hour long session with Carl Craig and a live Orchestra. Lovely jazz infused strings with live detroit beats and Carl Craig tweaking a Doepfer Eurorack on stage for electronic bubbles and fx. It's pretty tasty in parts. Carl Craig has some mixing capabilities and when he starts to warm things up the tracks happen. It starts off a bit dodgy but it warms up quick enough. - via grandcrew

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://audiolemon.blogspot.com/2009/08/carl-craig-at-cite-de-la-musique-paris.html' title='Carl Craig.
