Life is all about moments, so far I've had some hilarious and special ones in Munich.

One always needs a friend of the first hour:
I am more then happy to have met Steph.
A funny, talkative and charming mixed Munich Femina, with a Romanian father and German mother. She is from Düsseldorf and we actually met through Kaja.
As much as we can, we hangout together and as from half of december we hope to be moving in together.
She is currently working on a project for starcookers. A gourmet team which strives for becoming the best gourmet site of Europe.

Kees makes the rules
As I just moved in to my new apartment there were a few rules I received from my boss, to which we all have to 'obey'
For example:
We cannot do our laundry when we are not at home. Why?
Because once my colleague/roommate Kees did his laundry and the neighbours started complaining about water running through the walls of their house.
Another example; we are not allowed to have friends and family over in our apartment. Why?
Because once, Kees had a girl over to stay. The girl also worked for my company and the next day she was called in for a chat with our boss. By accident she let the words slip from her mouth: 'I stayed over at Kees'. Hence no visitors allowed.
We are also not allowed to smoke (I dont smoke), phew..

Besides my new home and work I have explored a little bit of Munich's nightlife together with Steph.

Alter Ofen, a nice bar that reminds me of Dutch bar/café's. Meaning: the place loosk like its filled with a bar, tables, chairs and music.No purpose it seems......yet with some of the interior peaces one can create a nice Halloween outfit

Dear All,
it's a rainy Tuesday afternoon, my boss is due to come back shortlyand until she starts breathing down my neck, I figured I'd use thismoment to write you all a note.
I had a lousy day last Tuesday, as you all may have gathered butthings looked up immensly after work. Met Floor for a drink and wewound up going to this Drink night with a bunch of Ex-Pats from allover the English-speaking world. Met some really nice peopleactually!! Wednesday was relaxed, Thursday (I can't actually remember)was cool too and then the weekend began. Friday night Floor and I meta bunch of people for the Sneak Preview at 11 and watched Atonement(beautiful film). On Saturday, Floor and I went into town and lookedat all the beautiful things we want to buy. Jordan, our new Canadian,Internet-Genius, aspiring Sex Therapist friend joined us for a walkaround town in the rain. Floor and I then decided on a spontaneoussleepover at mine, so we got rid of Jordan after dinner and lazilywatched a movie from bed. Sunday we went to a coffee shop to surf theweb with our laptops and to be lazy and have coffee. Her colleaguesjoined us in the afternoon, where we went to the top of the OlympiaTower. The elevator travels at a velocity of 7m per second to theheight of 190m. I nearly barfed upon arrival. Sadly, it was quitefoggy and thus the view was a little marred but we still had a ball.Went for dinner, me and the three dutch and then checked out thiscosy, tiny irish pub a five minute walk from my place. The bartenderwas not as nice as I am used to though (I know what some of you arethinking - shut it) and was quite rude in fact... We wound up stayingquite late... That's where I decided that I wanted to move in withFloor instead of trying to find a new flat with my whiny,high-maintenance, completely chaotic current flatmate...
Which I told her Monday morning at 7:45 when instead of saying goodmorning, she decided to bitch at me for not being Cinderella thisweekend and cleaning the place. Fair enough, I haven't been Mr. Cleanbut she's the one who makes the mess and has the time to clean it. I'mnot going to waste anymore energy on getting upset with her becausebottom line is, we're seperating on good terms. Hooray! So lots of funfilled Munich-exploration with Floor!Work is crazy busy as always. We're launching on Thursday, soeverybody needs to check out the Website then - I'll make sure to posta link. My clients are still driving me crazy - the only way I manaedto diffuse the situation last Tuesday and get what I needed was tostart crying. Okay, so I didn't burst into tears sitting on theirdesks, which I will probably try at a later date, I was sitting at myown desk crying into my notes when their Webdesigner walked in andtook pity on me. Sometimes, being a woman is amazing.
Am incredibly tired. Managed to confuse the snooze button with the offbutton this morning and woke up at 8:28 (an hour too late). I managedshower, make-up, half-assed hair drying and getting dressed in tenminutes. Be very impressed. Also, I was only 15 minutes late! TheBus-Gods were smiling down on me.
After two lonely months in Munich, the moment I finally find things todo, my parents have decided to come visit Thursday til Sunday. So therest of the week will be busy - work work work, drinks tonight,perhaps Halloween celebration tomorrow (yeah, we need to discuss thistonight Floor!), finally some sleep on Thursday, parents stuff andwork Friday, perhaps movies after dinner and then we'll see!

In Ljubljana it seemed I didnt need anything and shopping was far from my mind.

Though in Munich it almost seems that from all the beautifull designerstuff, delicacies and pretty people around one gets greedy

The city first appears like a little museum and to be honest quite superficial, but the curtains are slowly opening.

Every day of the year it has something to offer for once needs and wishes

Portugal: One night and day spend in Porto

Spaced out after of a long journey, though very happy and amazed by the beauty of one of Portugal's most northern cities: Porto

The view we had from our room looked out over the hill descending to the bridge and river

Very nice and helpfull staff, an inviting and clean kitchen + living room

The crowd Queen or King...?

A little while ago I was waiting on Kongresni Trg for Eefje when two guys asked me if I knew a typical Slovene restaurant where they could eat. I suggested Sestica and Sokol and wished them bon apetit.

The weather was great that day and when Eefje arrived we had lunch outside on the terrace at Romeo. When we got up to leave we saw the two guys again. They decided Romeo as well after all.

That evening I met them for a drink and I shortly got to know Richard from the UK and his friend from New Sealand. After the drink we said goodbye and that was that.

Every year I go back to the Netherlands especially for Q-day. This year I returned to our capital Amsterdam with my sister, her boyfriend and his sister. As ever Queensday in Amsterdam is becoming more and more fun, crowded and international.

I was supposed to see all my friends there and even Caz came to Amsterdam, but due to an overcrowded public, my phone network was out of order and I couldnt reach anyone, nor could anyone reach me, so I didnt meet anyone in the end of the day

We decided to head back after relaxing, enjoying the music, and watching the crowd dance a new move called 'jump'.

It took us a long way in narrow strees filled with thousands of people getting back to the trainstation.

On one of the bridges I suddenly heard a familair voice......when I turned I saw it was Richard.

"Hey Floor!"...."well with those kind of coincidences I might buy a lottery ticket".

Roadtrip Croatia

The 27th and 28th of April we visited Plitvice National Park, Senj and Crikvenica
With Mika in the CD-player and a few hours of driving later we came to our first stop in The Plitvice National Park.

Eefje, Mariana, Floor, Barry, and CarlosAfter a few hours and the only ones left in the park we arrived at the biggest waterfall Tarzan (aka Barry)

Together with Mariana, Eefje, Barry, and Carlos I entered the biggest national park of Croatia.
The water was so clear everywhere, you could see all the fish swimming...and if something would plunch into the water, they'd all dive straight on to it. We wondered what would happen if Barry fell in by accident.

After a long day we drove towards the coast and arrived in small coastal town, named Senj.

Barry and Carlos arranged a whole floor at some local people's home where we could stay for the night.

Our last day in Croatia we spend on the beach in Crikvenica, the only beach location close enough to Slovenia where they actyally have sand.

StrunjanMid April Rob paid a visit to Ljubljana. The weather already felt like summer when he arrived so in the early morning Rob and me decided to head for the beach for an easy day of relaxing on the coast. The more the merrier: Eefje had a wake up call and Ingrid was still having breakfast! But both off them said 'We're in!'
Another roadtrip was planned for the day.
Rob quickly got a new swimming pants and off we went.

As we always go to the same places on the Slovene coast we decided to head for Strunjan.

It turned out to be a pretty good spot on the otherwise so crowded Slovene coast.

Less touristy and enough places to put your towel down...though a bigger part of the beach is covered with small stones, so something thicker then a towel would work better next time.

The day was closed off with a dinner in Piran.

Floor and Joao

Last Sunday and Monday a very interesting person paid a visit to Ljubljana.
Joao (see moustache mafia film) came back for a week to Ljubljana. I got to know Joao (Portugal) during my Erasmus period and he brought back a lot of good memories, it was sad to see him leave.
I guess those who ever did Erasmus or something similar know what I am talking about...
Its a period in which you share intense moments with people. Everyone is different...in background, culture, and values....during such a time; you are all the same, as you share the same situations and time together.
That's what comes with an international expat life...people come and go

Thomas surprised us as well with a visit to Parlement so we ended up with quite the Dutch crowd which doesn't happen so often.

Today I was hopping around in sunny Ljubljana with Dilyara (friend from Russia).
We were both one of the fortunate Erasmus in 2005.
Along our stroll we were catching up on friends we made during that period.
Then she told me about the Moustache Mafia....
I didn't know what she was talking about untill I heard who were involved...some of our old Erasmus friends.
The Moustache Mafia has made a movie about a jump into the Ljubljanica from the tripple bridge, its brilliant!

Budapest, Paris of the East, PART III

Last day Budapest....la grande finale

Day 3, Sunday the 25th of February, the icing on the cake!
A lot of adjectives will now follow:
Our last day in Budapest was scheduled for the terror museum and the Szechenyi furdo baths. Due too a slow start in the morning we canceled the terror museum and decided for a straight visit to the baths.

Our absolutely, really, most certainly, long waited for, best choice of the whole weekend!
The baths are definitely the icing on the cake.
The Széchenyi Thermal Bath is one of the biggest spas in Europe. It was also the first thermal bath of Pest.
We grabbed 2600 HUF from our wallets, mind you…cash some money first as you can not pay with credit cards or other digital ways. Next we are directed to our own private cabins to change into our bathing customs. The cabins bring you back to the fifty’s as they are still preserved in the old style. Don’t forget to remember the nr. of your cabin though or you might get lost. Then it is time for the BATH’S. An intriguing smell finds your nostrils when you enter the place…get over it, its all worth it.
Packed with people, as it was a Sunday and the Szechenyi furdo baths are the touristiest, we had a mystical experience.
After two days we got the feeling that people in Hungary a very cold….well the pieces of the puzzle all fall into place in the baths.
An amazing feeling, so many people and everyone is absolutely calm, even the kids are peaceful. The only once who attracted attention were the 5 road trippers having fun in the whirl pool, the Turkish steam bath, a dive in one of the cold baths, and last but not least the baths outside.
This last bath made us feel like we were in a movie, James Bond of the fifty’s.
Chess is played inside the bath; we were lucky with the cold temperature outside as it produced even more steam from the baths and created a fog over the crowd…. The rest is up for you to experience.

The day was closed with an à la cuisine whopper and brownie ;)
Our return trip took us 5 hours due to our choice to travel back via Zagreb.
Thank you road trippers for a wonderful time!!!

The basilica for those who will still visit Budapest…go to the top!
Interesting note…it has the allure of Paris and other great cities….it is also nicknamed Paris of the East…but it doesn’t appear that way as cultural heritage seems to be neglected and the Hungarian people seem to be quite 'cold'.
Time of the year was perfect….due to the cold temperatures outside, the baths create ‘the atmosphere’ needed to close of Budapest.

Needed:

Budapest, Paris of the East, PART II

Day 2, Saturday the 24th of February

Sightseeing
Saturday, our first day to see Budapest by daylight, takes us on a long stroll. We are going to see about 80% of Budapest. Highlights of that day are the St. Stephen’s Basilica, the Great Market Hall, the Gellert Hill with the Citadel, and the Royal castle.

Our first hotspot is the St. Stephen’s Basilica located in Pest, an interesting basilica due to its grandeur and interior. It is named in honor of Stephen, the first King of Hungary (c. 975–1038), whose mummified fist is housed in the reliquary. Along with the Hungarian Parliament Building, it is the tallest building of Budapest (96 m).

The place is huge and seems to pop up out of nowhere. The outsides appealed to me as it gives a majestic image. Unfortunately we didn’t get to the top of the building. We had no guide book and only later found out that this was possible. The top gives a great view over the city.
They have done a great job in creating an ‘over the top’ interior, which forms a sharp contrast with the reality; a lot of unemployment and people who can barely get by vs. a basilica that could easily compete with the top 10 of MTV’s CRIBS.

Souvenirs and food
The Great Market Hall is a pleasure for your appetite.
Downstairs the area is filled with little stalls offering many kinds of fruit, vegetables, meat and other culinary goods. Upstairs you can go and shop for some typical Hungarian souvenirs and food.
After at least 30 minutes of deciding what to buy, Eefje and me bought a little Hungarian secret box as a souvenir (for 1800 HUF); an interesting piece of equipment, especially when you have your friends trying to figure out how it opens and they can’t work it out!
The guys couldn’t wait that long for the shopping girls (very reasonable) and went for an interesting lunch.
Barry enjoyed a delicious goulash, Pedro had roast potatoes with sausages, Eefje went for a sandwich, and Filipe and I shared a very tasty rice dish with cabbage. Is there anyone familiar with that last dish? After the market hall the Gellert Hill was our next stop. It gives a great view on the two parts, Buda and Pest and provided us with a short warm up on a cold day in Budapest.
A hint of Irish culture
After a long walk we had to go shopping… again!
We decided on Friday we had to make a visit to the thermal baths on Sunday. What we didn’t know, is that we needed a bathing custom in order to enter the thermal baths.
One hour later 3 of us had a new bathing custom and the other 2 could borrow some from Adrien. With our new outfits we joined Barry later on in Beckett’s for a rugby match between Ireland and England.
Beckett’s had a great atmosphere, beer flowing over the counter and a cheering crowd. To Barry’s (and therefore our) great satisfaction, Ireland won!

I am a big supporter of trying out local culinary delights as much as possible…especially since I studied sustainable tourism (where eating traditonal dishes is very much stimulated)
Well… sometimes it happens that traditional food requires some effort to get to….as we were on our way home to get a nap we wanted something quick to eat. I am not a big fan of fast food chains…but Burger King pulled us in and those whoppers and brownies with ice cream sure taste good.

Nightlife, Old Man’s music pub
In the evening we went to the Old Man’s Pub.
Old Man’s is a ‘Western’ pub with Eastern crowd. You can jump right into balkan culture while listening to cheesy music. It was packed to the max when we got there and the small dance floor is easily filled. Going downstairs means entering the lions cave….maffia owned?
As Pedro and Filipe were rather keen on breathing they left earlier, Old Man’s is a smoke filled area.
The three of us stayed and enjoyed some music with new Dutch friends we made there.
Conclusion: it is a bit of a pick up joint for ‘guys’ with money and girls who definitely want some.
