Yes, I hear that most definitely. Not to mention all the environmental issues that still need to be taken care of.

I think we can all agree that all the people of New Orleans ought to have a say in what the future of the city looks like...not just the folks who have had the means, the luck, or the political clout to already have returned. That's what I think the idea of "right of return" and this meeting is meant to be about.

Most of New Orleans still does not have electricity. The Bush Admin. has not committed to a plan to spend the money needed for the wetlands or the levees. The Bush Admin. will not provide section 8 money so poor folks can afford rent in higher ground portions of town. FEMA and the Army Corps are still clueless. The Mayor, the governor, and the Senators have not come up with a plan of their own, other than asking for lots of money. All of these items must be considered when you are talking about a "return." I have to say, seeing the phrase "Right of Return" within America is rather surreal for me, after all the years of hearing it applied to Israel/Palestine and a host of other foreign conflicts. Man.
