When you do have to search in MEDLINE for original research studies, filters are available to help you find the best types of studies for your clinical question. This tutorial also demonstrates how to use the various clinical query filters both in PubMed and in Ovid SP MEDLINE.

Update (Feb 04, 2008): Ovid has switched from Ovid Gateway to Ovid SP today and has renamed the "Ovid Syntax" tab to "Advanced Ovid Search", which is also now the default tab.
