In this first tutorial I am going to focus on the new features of Ovid SP compared with the current Ovid search interface. Ovid SP is scheduled to replace the current Ovid search interface soon.<br /><br /><span style="color:red; font-weight:bold">Update (Feb 04, 2008):</span> Ovid has switched from Ovid Gateway to Ovid SP today and has renamed the "Ovid Syntax" tab to "Advanced Ovid Search", which is also now the default tab.<br /><br /><div class="post_image_lw"><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/ovidsp/ovidsp_new_features/"><img src="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/test/lei/bloglinkfiles/ovidsp/ovidsp_new_features_small.png" /></a></div><br /><div class="viewoptions"><ul><li><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/ovidsp/ovidsp_new_features/">View Tutorial Full Size (9 min 36 sec)</a></li><li><a href="http://media.libsyn.com/media/cwml/ovidsp_new_features.m4v">Download tutorial (M4V file, 28.43MB)</a></li></ul></div>Lei Wanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02419668690831206836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35748107.post-40179159838868033182007-10-11T17:05:00.000-04:002008-02-05T17:40:20.257-05:00Using Interlibrary LoanIf a book or a journal article you are looking for is not available at Yale, you can always request it from another library via our free interlibrary loan service. Just remember that there are faster ways to get the item you want: for books, try <a href="http://cwml-tutorials.blogspot.com/2007/09/requesting-books-via-borrow-direct.html">Borrow Direct</a> first, and for journal articles, try <a href="http://cwml-tutorials.blogspot.com/2007/09/interlibrary-loan-via-yale-links.html">requesting it via Yale Links</a> first. If those do not work for you, this tutorial is for you. I will show you how to request books and journal articles by manually filling out our interlibrary forms. The HTML version of this tutorial is available <a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/page/76">here</a>.<br /><br />This tutorial also concludes this sequence of tutorials known as "Library 101". This is a re-make of a series of video tutorials I made 2 years ago, which began to go out of date.<br /><br />In this first episode, I am going to show you how to use "Yale Links" to quickly locate the full text of articles you find in a database. The HTML version of this tutorial is available <a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/page/67">here</a>.<br /><br />I also wanted to mention that the Yale Medical Library is currently advertising a "video contest" to promote "Yale Links" - you have a chance to win a video iPod! Click <a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/yalelinks/">here</a> for more information on the video contest.<br /><br /><div class="post_image_lw"><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/library101/yale_links/"><img src="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/test/lei/bloglinkfiles/library101/yale_links_small.png" /></a></div><br /><div class="viewoptions"><ul><li><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/library101/yale_links/">View Tutorial Full Size (4 min 15 sec)</a></li><li><a href="http://media.libsyn.com/media/cwml/yale_links.m4v">Download tutorial (M4V file, 17.99MB)</a></li></ul></div>Lei Wanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02419668690831206836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35748107.post-28915324185657859742007-07-19T09:14:00.000-04:002008-02-05T17:30:23.907-05:00Where does Quosa store the articles? One question we get asked a lot is: "where does Quosa store the articles?" People want to know this for a variety of reasons, so I am going to show you how to find the Quosa data folder and how you can use that folder to back up and restore all your Quosa data.<br /><br />This episode concludes the Quosa 5-Minute Video Series. I want to thank my colleague Jan Glover for advising me on these tutorials and providing me with a detailed teaching script she uses for her Quosa class.<br /><br /><div class="post_image_lw"><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/quosa/quosa_10/"><img src="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/test/lei/bloglinkfiles/quosa_tutorial/quosa_10_small.png" /></a></div><br /><div class="viewoptions"><ul><li><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/quosa/quosa_10/">View Tutorial Full Size (5 min 00 sec + 1 min 08 sec)</a></li><li><a href="http://media.libsyn.com/media/cwml/quosa_10.mov">Download tutorial (MOV file, 11.26MB)</a></li></ul></div>Lei Wanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02419668690831206836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35748107.post-50363562767908488132007-07-11T13:59:00.000-04:002008-02-05T17:29:34.320-05:00Transferring Quosa Folders Between Two ComputersIn <a href="http://cwml-tutorials.blogspot.com/2007/04/downloading-installing-and-updating.html">my first Quosa tutorial</a>, I mentioned that our license allows you to install Quosa on two computers. For example, you might have an office computer and a home computer. If you use Quosa to do research on both computers, you will probably need to constantly transfer data (downloaded articles and their metadata) back and forth between the two computers. In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to transfer all data in a specific Quosa folder to another computer.<br /><br /><div class="post_image_lw"><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/quosa/quosa_9/"><img src="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/test/lei/bloglinkfiles/quosa_tutorial/quosa_9_small.png" /></a></div><br /><div class="viewoptions"><ul><li><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/quosa/quosa_9/">View Tutorial Full Size (5 min 36 sec)</a></li><li><a href="http://media.libsyn.com/media/cwml/quosa_9.mov">Download tutorial (MOV file, 11.64MB)</a></li></ul></div>Lei Wanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02419668690831206836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35748107.post-6959769256114360082007-06-27T16:11:00.000-04:002008-02-05T17:28:54.420-05:00Editing Citation Info and Adding AnnotationsQuosa not only indexes everything in full text, but it also allows you to add rich metadata to your articles and documents. In this tutorial, I will show you how to edit citation information and add annotations to your articles and documents in Quosa. I will also demonstrate how these metadata can be useful when doing searches in Quosa.<br /><br /><div class="post_image_lw"><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/quosa/quosa_8/"><img src="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/test/lei/bloglinkfiles/quosa_tutorial/quosa_8_small.png" /></a></div><br /><div class="viewoptions"><ul><li><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/quosa/quosa_8/">View Tutorial Full Size (5 min 30 sec)</a></li><li><a href="http://media.libsyn.com/media/cwml/quosa_8.mov">Download tutorial (MOV file, 11.05MB)</a></li></ul></div>Lei Wanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02419668690831206836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35748107.post-69801288249904308682007-06-20T14:12:00.000-04:002008-02-05T17:28:13.208-05:00Configuring Your Searches as Alerts in QuosaMaybe you already know how to set up PubMed or Ovid for alerts, but Quosa's advantages are obvious: you will have a consolidated list of alerts, so that you have one place to go to for all your allerts. And more importantly, you will not only have the citations of the new articles, but also have their full text. In this tutorial, I will show you how to configure your searches as alerts in Quosa. I am also going to show you how to use Quosa to manage your Ovid alerts.<br /><br /><div class="post_image_lw"><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/quosa/quosa_7/"><img src="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/test/lei/bloglinkfiles/quosa_tutorial/quosa_7_small.png" /></a></div><br /><div class="viewoptions"><ul><li><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/quosa/quosa_7/">View Tutorial Full Size (5 min 30 sec)</a></li><li><a href="http://media.libsyn.com/media/cwml/quosa_7.mov">Download tutorial (MOV file, 9.29MB)</a></li></ul></div>Lei Wanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02419668690831206836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35748107.post-41166344718831521922007-06-07T14:16:00.000-04:002008-02-05T17:34:13.783-05:00Importing Existing PDF Collection to QuosaIf you already have a collection of full text articles in PDF, you can import them into Quosa, too. This will not only help you consolidate your collection, but also make your PDFs immensely more searchable as Quosa indexes your PDFs word for word. You can also import your own files, such as your Microsoft Word documents, your PowerPoint presentations into Quosa, too.<br /><br /><div class="post_image_lw"><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/quosa/quosa_6/"><img src="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/test/lei/bloglinkfiles/quosa_tutorial/quosa_6_small.png" /></a></div><br /><div class="viewoptions"><ul><li><a href="http://www.med.yale.edu/library/education/guides/screencasts/quosa/quosa_6/">View Tutorial Full Size (5 min 14 sec)</a></li><li><a href="http://media.libsyn.com/media/cwml/quosa_6.mov">Download tutorial (MOV file, 8.94MB)</a></li></ul></div>Lei Wanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02419668690831206836noreply@blogger.com
