Automation is the key of success! Part 1

Automation is without doubt one of the most important things of any online
project and the main key of success.I’m now going to explain why this is the
case… and how you can use this concept to improve your own online project.

what is Automation?

I remember how exciting it was when I made my first sale.
I wrote an email to the customer:

"Thank you for your order, we have recieved your payment. Here are your link and password to download the e-book".

Then I thought to my self: This is not the way to go, when I get more orders,
I have to stay the whole day infront of my INBOX folder and awnser an email after another.

In fact, it sounds like a hard job, and anyone of us who went into internet marketing wanted to avoid hard work.
The biggest problem in Internet marketing is that there are many small online shop owners out there who quickly fall into this trap. I realized, that I worked harder and longer than in any other job I did before. I was sitting the whole day, sometimes up to 15 hours, awnsering emails, verifying orders and updating subscribers lists. My profits didn't grow as they should have, because I was
trapped into two e-book shops and I didn't have enough time to look for other
income streams.

So what to do? The awnser is Automation!

That's when I started automate my websites, it really took the time-consuming work of my business.Automating my business allowed me to concentrate on launching new ideas, developing and expanding my business into other, more profitable niches, and ultimately enabled me to make more money. That was the point when I started to be successful.

In this post, I am going to explain one way of Automation and I hope that you can integrate the methods to make your web site a success.

How did I advertise my website?

As I mentioned above, I went into selling e-books, because in my oppinon they are easier to sell that phyical goods. I bought a domain name and started a website. But how did I got costumers to buy my goods?

Well when I started, I readed on some websites that I could promote my website and my products by entering communities and forums, who talk about the same topic my e-books where about. I surfed through the threads and joined the discussions. Sometimes, not always, I put my link and the forums visitors followed it to my website. That way I sold 1-2 e-books per day, sometimes 1 more.

Well that was a good start and I can recommand it for beginners, but you have to save the money to go on with the next step I did,

I automated the Website promotion.

I started an Adwords campaign. but why?

Starting an adwords campaign would be not that easy, because of the high competition of other Advertisers.Nevertheless it helped me saving much time. When starting an Adwords campaign, you have to consider not to go for the main keywords, but for the low competitive keyphrases.

For example, when i typed in play golf (about 250000 searches/month on google),
the average bid on that keyword was about 0.3 $. That meant that I had to bid the same to be on the first result page on google. The average conversion is about 2%-5%, when you are selling a really good product.
My e-book's price was 15.99$. That means, I would pay an average of 30 $ in Adwords to sell 2 e-books.

My trick was to go for the lower competitive keywords and key phrases like:
how to play golf (low competition) bid price 0.1 $

That way I managed to sell 2 e-books at a price of 10 $ in Adwords. That was great.

And because I offered other e-books on my website, my costumers re-visited my website on their own and started purchasing my other products too. I always had an "offer of the week", like buy one get an other e-book with the same or a lower price 50% off.

Of course I didn't only bid on "how to play golf", but built various combinations
with low or no competition. The success with Adwords is, building a huge keyword list, (we'll talk about that another time).

So, once I started bidding on my keywords, my job was done. The only thing I had to do was testing the success of my keywords and key phrases. From time to time I had to manage the bid amounts and changed them, throw away some of the keywords and replace them by others, which were cheap.

Are back links really that important?

There are several factors that influence your ranking on google. One of the most important things you have to concider whe SE optimizing are getting backlinks.

Of course content is king, meta tags have become less important, and keyword density is still an important factor, but there is one more mathematical factor google uses to give your site a value, which is still the most important factor for the Page rank. We will talk about back links.

Back links or reciprocal links are the same thing, both of them tell a search engine robot, your site should get a better rank, because other people think your site is helpful or it meets their taste, and that's why they link back to you. But getting a back link alone isn't enough to attract the search engine, giving you a higher ranking. You have to close the loop and give those sites, who link back to you a back link too. That means that you are creating with the other sites a network, and google rewards your website for planning it this way.

Sometimes it happens, that sites who link to you get deleted or the back link which they give you becomes broken. So, when the google robot visits your site and follows the broken link, or google visits the affiliated site and finds there a broken link, it reduces your value and your PR drops down. It also depends on:

How many backlinks are you getting?
How many of these links are broken?

If you get for example 100 back links and 2 are broken, then it wouldn't be a big problem, because we are talking about 2% only. But if you are getting only 10 backlinks and 2 are broken, then we have 20% of broken backlinks.

Conclusion:

Always try to get working backlinks, visit the sites who link back to you and investigate the links to your site. Do they work? If not, send an e-mail to the webmaster. Also have a look at the links which leave your site. Do they work? If not repair them.

Using Meta Tags?

In this post we'll talk about onpage optimization. The biggest part of onpage optimization takes place in the code of your website, so HTML basics are a must to understand this post.

Meta Tags

The Meta tags "keyword and description" have lost their importance since the first days of Search Engine Optimization. This applys more to the metatag-"keyword". This metatag is used in the code of the website and is hidden for the website visitor, that`s why it could be used easyly to influence the search results in SE. There are many people today who completely neglect the meta tag "Keyword". Never the less it should be still used for new sites. Mainly the discription- meta tag should be still used, because it is shown in the Search Engine search results and there you may get more attention to your site. In my case it is ("hot seo news for noobs"). That´s why the description metatag should be chosen well and describe your homepages with a view words or a whole sentence. Use a maximum of 200-250 characters for the two meta tags.

Es gibt noch weitere Meta-Tags die aber keine direkte Auswirkung auf das Ranking haben. So kann der robots-Metatag genutzt werden um den Suchmaschinen verschiedene Anweisungen zu geben. Zumindest die großen Suchmaschinen sollten sich daran halten. Mit folgendem Meta-Tag kann man die Suchmaschinen dazu anweisen die Seite nicht zu indexieren: In diesem Fall sollte allerdings auch die robots.txt genutzt werden. Nach der Datei robots.txt suchen die Suchmaschinen-Robots im Stammverzeichnis einer Domain, also zum Beispiel unter "http://www.domain.de/robots.txt". Mit Hilfe der Datei robots.txt kann man die Suchmaschinen-Robots anweisen bestimmte Verzeichnisse und Dateien nicht zu indexieren. Die robots.txt könnte zum Beispiel wie folgt aussehen:

There are some more meta tags, but they don`t influence your PR directly. There is for exampla the robot -metatag that is used to give the SE robots commands. Mainly the robots of large SE would use the robots tag. In every case the robots.txt should be used, so they can crawl in the root directory of the page. This would loo like"http://www.domain.com/robots.txt. With the help of robots.txt you can command the robots not to index some sites, you don´t want to be indexed. That may look like:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /directoryx/
Disallow: /fileix.html

In this case the robots are commanded not to index the directoryX and the file filex.html.

Another useful tag is:

"< meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache ">"

So the search engines would cache your site and only show results with adirect link to your website.

How important is content for SEO?

When people create a website and start to optimize it for search engines like google (which may take much time) they forget the things which are more important than SEO. Content. Google can not see pictures, so the only way to let them know what you have on your site may be via text. Is it really so difficult to put text on our sites?

many website creators care more on how the site looks like, and take less care about it´s functions.It is true that Flash, can be used to create a very beautiful site, but nice layouts with animations, completely neglect the fact that we are building a useful site for the world, not just for us.

When optimizing you sites, its content should be the first thing you think of. Many people may say "I don't even know what to write." Well, your site is an extension of your business/service/whatever, and as such you are likely to be well versed in that area. But I think people get caught up in the idea that the text is going to be placed on the site, promoting the attention to variables such as what font to use, what color, how it will look, etc.

So what to do to create a text. The best advice I can give you is to write your text with pen and paper and then type it via textpad not word (this may cause problems with copy and paste). Just write about anything of your business, yourself, your service, everything can be used in future, you never know how things will develop in future. You should try to write specific (for keyword reasons). That way it isn't hard to create an article with more than 1000 words. You may not use everything ones, but maybe in future. 500 words of text may be enough for a site, you see, this may be a good start.

After all think about spacing, fontsize, color and so on. This is one of the biggest
mistakes which are done while creating content for your site.

Search Engine Google is planning an online-platform for selling e-books. Book-publisher will be able to allow custumers to get online access to their e-book data bases. It is though for people who plan a journy and only want to lean a guide books or for those people who only need a chapter of a book.

After the decreasing e-book market in the last years, this shop should open the market for the huge mass. In Japan for example, people are reading full romans on their mobile phone.

They are preparing themselfes for the increasing data traffic, caused by the increasing online services by the onlinemarkets and the fast growth of people who use the Internet.

Googles new Data Center will be built in Lenoir/ North Carolina and will cost about 600 Million $. In the last few years Google invested about 800 Million $ into optimizing his infrastructure.
The gouverment of North Carolina attracted Google with a tax allowance of 100 Million Dollar.
but the state of North Carolina has also the disadvantage of only moderate electricity prices, which are Google's significant expenses.

Microsoft chose San Antonio/Texas and investierts 550 Millionen Dollar. The Datacenter there should be mainly a base for the following growth of Microsoft's Live-services like for Windows- Updates, Office-Updates, the Search Engine MSN, and Microsoft's E-Mail Service Hotmail.

Jimmy Wales the founder of Wikipedia starts a new open source search engine "Wikisari". The first servers are set up. Everybody is invited to work on it, just like at Wikipedia. A voting-system should help show better results. So if you search something, the results are shown and the user votes if he is happy with the show results or not. The user has also the possibillity not only to give a positive or negative vote for a website, but also to work on the indexing of the websites and to set bookmarks for other Wikisari users and to publish his own bookmarks, wich may help other users to find usefull results.

Summary: The social network trend is moving forward and takes over the search engines of the future. A good revolutioning idea!

Beware of these Ads

Hello and welcome to this new post.

One of the most common methods to make some bucks from the homepage or blog, is by putting some adsense ads on them. You can select between different formats and bla bla bla and so on. You know,... the general stuff. Read in the google adsense help about how and where to place the ads on your page.

The point of the whole stuff is: How to get the right ads?

Surely Adsense is contextual ( that means you get ads related to the keywords of your site content) but not every click on the ads would make you the same money! Depending on your niche, you`ll get related ads, not every niche pays the same amount for a click!

Normally good, professional sites(authority sites) pay more for a click on their ads.

That means: Visit the sites of the ads, beware; don`t click on your own ads. Type the url in your adresse bar. Find out which pages are crap, there are also some, which are only made for adsense ads. These pages only pay about 1-5 cent per click.

What to do next? Login into your adsense account and block the ads of these sites. Google allows you to block about 200 sites.

Result

The ads, that remain would be mostly from sites that pay more per click. In this case you double or tripple your income with the same amount of clicks.

SEO: Linking the new generation of keywords

Using the right Keywords and adding metatags is surely very important to get recognized by search engines but it is not the only thing to do to get good ranks for a website. 6 years ago it was enough to get good ranks. Nowadays. Linking has become much more important. The more "good" links you have, the more attractive your page becomes for a search engine! That doesn’t mean that you try to spam 1000+ of your links all over the Internet.

10 "good" links would beat 1000+ non quality links.

This means if you have good articles and a website with quality content about "car-history", you can search the Internet for high ranked, long established car online markets. Ask them to provide them frequently with “News” articles about car history; in return, you would like them to link to you. The high rank of these sites will help you to raise your page ranking.

It would have no sense to look for high ranked pages that provide a topic that has nothing to do with your page. This is the actual way of using keywords.

But you should keep one important thing in mind. It has no sense to put your page online and start hunt for links, without providing something useful/ unique! Take it a little bit slower, write a good text, and work on your layout. You’re not interested in getting a visitor just ones to your website!

SEO: optimize the Title, keywords

Choose the right title for every page. The title of a page contains the keywords, that would attract you to the major search engines. The title is also very relevant to visitors. It should be powerful enough to let the people read the text below. An avarage user decides after 7 seconds to stay on- or to leave a page! Using the keywords that you want to target in your text will also help you to get more traffic on your page. ´but don´t be silly and spam it senseless on your page. That wouldn`t work.

Subscribing Articles to several pages, is also a very popular way to advertise your page. Write and subscribe an article, using the keywords of your page to several webpages. Put the link of your page on the bottom of your page, so readers may use it to go to your site. Just search google for such article platforms. Hot tip: ArticleCity, search it or other ones in google or yahoo. There are many, and the best thing is, you can submitt the same article to several pages.

So that´s enough for today, trying the tips above will take you some time.

Do a keyword research; think about which words or word combination, you would use to find information or products.
