MUSIC SAVES LIVES, the trusted conduit between music, entertainment and important life-saving causes, takes a new digital look at donation. Music Saves Lives has teamed up with unsigned artists Them Terribles, After Midnight Project, Run Doris Run, Ryan Gilmore, and Vogue in the Movement to register for the Donate Life California Organ and Tissue Donor registry. Each band on the tour has committed to giving away free digital downloads to concert-goers who attend register for the Donate Life California Organ and Tissue Donor. Concert attendees are asked to do two things: One, be a part of the Music Saves Lives / Donate Life California Organ and Tissue Donor and two, go on-line and learn about how easy it is to save a life by registering as a marrow donor with DKMS Americas. MUSIC SAVES LIVES has registered over 7,000 potential life-saving marrow donors with DKMS at concerts nationwide. Many of the bands that are involved with this west coast tour have supported Music Saves Lives in the last year by telling their fans that being part of the program can make a difference right where they live. Donate Life California is a nonprofit Organ and Tissue Donor Registry dedicated to saving the lives of thousands of Californians awaiting life-saving transplants. On-line registration is available at http://www.donatelifecalifornia.org/ DKMS is the world’s largest marrow donor center with over 1.6 million registered donors. You can be the one person to help save a life by registering as a potential marrow donor on-line or at selected tour locations. The registration process only takes 10 minutes. All donors who register with DKMS Americas are also anonymously listed on the National Registry. This I Care Update is about sharing at a time of the year that is known for doing just that. Happy Holidays and enjoy this amazing news. Adam Charles from the band Halifax SAVES A LIFE. It took a few days for some great new to sink in before I could send off this I Care Update and share it with you. After briefly speaking to Adam Charles of the band Halifax and hearing that out of the thousands we registered for the bone marrow program he was a match to save someone’s life, I was taken back to the recent news of Casey Calvert of Hawthorne Heights. These two stories are filled with emotion and they both involve hopeful and caring people reaching out. Music Saves Lives sends out their deepest sympathies to Hawthorne Heights, the fans and the families. I was amazed to see all the comments at our MySpace under the photos of Casey with MSL blood donors. I have to say hope comes in two forms: seeing the caring people reach out in times of loss and a single caring person reaching out to save someone’s life. Adam signed up just like the other 7000 that MSL registered this passed year, but he was called by DKMS and was told that he matched someone with a blood cancer. He was also informed that without him, the cancer patient would die. Adam shared with me on the phone, in pure humility, that he was asked to save someone and did. It was just a few days ago that we found out, but he donated at the City of Hope in California on September 4th, 2007. He kept to himself about this and only his family and the band knew. He is very excited to talk to us more about how easy it was. You will hear from Adam and the band Halifax in a future interview very soon. The band is very busy in the studio right now and we can’t wait hear the new album. The one thing that was revealed when speaking with Adam was something that I would have heard from anyone, the feeling that he was able to save a life. That feeling is indescribable to anyone until they reach out and have that feeling for themselves. It’s easy to have. That’s why we’re here. Music Saves Lives gives you the ability to save lives. Did you know that every 60 days you are able to donate blood and save up to 3 lives? Did you know that if you are on the bone marrow registry you could get a call to save someone with a blood cancer? It’s not about us pushing people to donate. It’s about you having an experience that lives with you forever. Look for a Music Saves Lives blood drive with your local blood bank or e-mail us at ICare@musicsaveslives.com. If you would like to register for the bone marrow program you can contact us or go directly to DKMS Americas at www.dkmsamericas.org . Music Saves Lives Bands and Artists, have a great 2007. This year would not be complete without mentioning a few of the Music Saves Lives bands and artists. We want to thank all of them. Two years ago, we would have never thought that a little song like “Hey There Delilah” would be heard by millions. Congrats to Tom Higgenson and the Plain White Ts for 2 Grammy nominations. Congratulations to Andrew McMahon and Jack’s Mannequin for being a part of the Instant Karma CD and the track God [Featuring Mick Fleetwood]. Catch the video here: Alternative Press placed Andrew on the cover for the most anticipated album in 2008. Them Terribles was voted top three out of 4000 bands in the MTV2 Dew Circuit Breakout 2007. They are also a part of the Music Saves Lives Digital Donation Tour in January 2008 with 4 other great MSL bands. Run Doris Run, Gillmor, After Midnight Project and Vogue in the Movement. Sherwood has toured a huge amount of dates and shared some great videos from Europe. MSL has known Sherwood from the days that they played parks in Los Alamitos with 10 people watching. Sherwood care a lot about what the music can do to influence you to do good things in life. They have posted many blogs to encourage their fans to be a part of MSL. Bad Religion has exceeded expectations once again with an amazing album and put their mark on a Gibson Guitar for Music Saves Lives. We had four bands be a part of the MSL Gibson Guitar Project: Coheed and Cambria, Meg and Dia, Pennywise and Bad Religion all took part in helping support Music Saves Lives. MSL has to thank Stacy Clark for her dedication to our program. Her fight with a blood disorder when she was just out of high school pressed a passion with her to reach out and always support. We want to congratulate her on her highly-rated and anticipated CD “Apples and Oranges”
thank you and Save a Life! www.musicsaveslives.com Music Saves Lives
Music Saves Lives®http://www.blogger.com/profile/05571310247342787091noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35625160.post-71169296871944983472007-11-19T13:02:00.000-08:002007-11-19T13:03:58.579-08:00ONE-OF-A-KIND DESIGN “SAVE A LIFE” UP FOR BID NOWFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASENovember 16, 2007 MUSIC SAVES LIVES TEAMS WITH GIBSON GUITAR AUCTIONING FOUR CUSTOM DESIGNED LES PAUL GUITARS TO RAISE FUNDS AND AWARENESS; ONE-OF-A-KIND DESIGN “SAVE A LIFE” UP FOR BID NOW; A FIFTH GUITAR WILL TOUR VENUES NATIONWIDE MUSIC SAVES LIVES, the trusted conduit between music, entertainment and important life-saving causes, has joined forces with GIBSON GUITAR in an effort to raise money and awareness of life saving issues by auctioning off four specially designed Gibson Les Paul guitars. These one-of-a-kind, hand painted, Gibson Guitar custom guitars were created in hopes that they encourage, educate, and support the life saving efforts made by MUSIC SAVES LIVES. Each masterpiece was painted by one of two amazing artists, Josh Kenyon and Colby Nichols, in its raw, unassembled state then put together to create an irreplaceable work of art. In addition, each decked out guitar has been autographed by music artists who support MSL and all that they aspire to do. With these special collector’s items, MUSIC SAVES LIVES and Gibson Guitar hope to reach out and bring people together who share a common passion of helping those with life threatening issues. The title and artist of each dynamic design are as follows:“Save A Life” – artist Josh Kenyon, autographed by Pennywise Up for bid now!“A Household Nightmare” – artist Colby Nichols, autographed by Meg & Dia “Beware of Friends” – artist Josh Kenyon, autographed by Bad Religion“To the Depths We Sink” – artist Colby Nichols, autographed by Coheed & Cambria Each of the guitars above will be put on the auction block by Unite the United Foundation. In addition, a fifth Les Paul is now on display at the San Diego Art Institute gallery, soon to be exhibited at venues nationwide. Donated by Gibson Guitar, these guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics are a testament to Gibson Guitar wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. I am sitting in my living room thinking about what has happened this last summer, and wanted to give you my perspective of the "lucky 13th," addition of the Vans Warped tour. After last summer many people said that the Vans Warped tour was dead and that it was all over. I even wondered if we could remain relevant, and decided with Darryl that we should book a tour as diverse as possible without abandoning what the roots of the tour stood for. When I went public, saying that this years tour might not be for everybody, some people said I was bitching and whining. It might have been perfect timing or being in the right place but after an amazing first day in Pomona I was walking across the parking lot and someone yelled out " hey Kevin, if the warped tour is dead, then I just went to heaven." Whoever said that I owe you a big thanks, it stuck with me all summer. Each day we worked hard to make the show the best we possibly could, and I think it showed. Another amazing thing that sticks with me about this summer was how my crew had a term, "gone to warped tour," this meant that you were going out to see bands and maybe your radio may not work for an hour. I went to "Warped tour," many times this summer and had a lot of fun. Walking from stage to stage and seeing kids at each one, not all waiting for one band but enjoying everything the day had to offer. You could catch Big d walk a few hundred feet and see Killswitch Engage and make a left turn and see a bunch of people going crazy to MC Chris. It brought a smile to my face and will encourage us to work hard on the line-up for next year. Which leads me to next year, please post your ideas I have a lot but truly need your input on who you would like to see, we have already a lot of ideas and will not waste a lot of time before we start working on 08. Lets just say that we had a blast this summer and thank you for coming out and supporting the tour, the kids who helped with the recycling efforts, the fans in Houston, Miami and Cleveland who hung through the storms, and the crew who got this show up each and everyday so we could open doors on time, all the bands and crew that took one of their days off to clean beaches and re-store vegetation in Monterey. In closing, people were asking last week if I was happy the tour was over, honestly I can't say I am. It is nice to be home with the kids, but the pressure is on to bring you a show at least equal to this year's and I am ready to get started. all the best, kevin lyman PS.. I want to thank all the music save lives' kids, I got to meet many of you and said thanks personally, but for those I did not I wanted to wish you the best.
thank you and Save a Life! www.musicsaveslives.com Music Saves Lives
Music Saves Lives®http://www.blogger.com/profile/05571310247342787091noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35625160.post-50711691163734258302007-08-30T22:34:00.000-07:002007-08-30T22:36:04.927-07:00
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – August 28, 2007. Keane and Ethan were born on October 13, 2006 as two little healthy baby boys. They had everything a parent wishes for – 20 little fingers and 20 little toes and big blue eyes. Donor Drive: SATURDAY SUNDAY and MONDAY, Labor Day Weekend September 1-3, 2007 DKMS and Music Saves Lives in part with Boardfest 07 Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm Huntington Beach Pier at Main Street in Huntington Beach, CA

Carrie and Xander Denke were married in January, 2002 and were excited to begin a family, having two beautiful children come into their lives. Usually, when a young couple expects children, it is a very happy moment. This was the case for Carrie and Xander, until Ethan was admitted to Tarzan Medical Center in February, 2007 with a distended abdomen and a fever of 103. "Even though our pediatrician suspected it might be a fatal auto-immune disease (HLH – Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis), both he and we hoped this wouldn't be the case," Xander said. Those hopes were shattered later that month when Ethan's bone marrow biopsy for HLH came out positive. The bad news didn't stop here. The Hematologist, Dr. Hofstra of CHLA, explained that 80% of HLH cases in children under 1 are genetic. Since Ethan and Keane are identical twins, this would mean that Keane would get sick too.

"I cannot put into words how Carrie and I felt that day – our world shattered from one moment to the next. We found out that Ethan has a deadly illness and that Keane would probably have this rare disease. We were such a happy family," states Xander. Keane's illness manifested itself in April, 2007.

The doctors explained to the parents that the only cure would be a BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT – another person's healthy cells giving Ethan and Keane a second chance at life. The sooner doctors find a match, the better, since then the twins don't have to go through countless rounds of chemotherapy. The search for a donor on the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) started immediately. The parent's prayers were answered when they received the news only a few months after that an almost perfect match (9 out of 10) was found. Then a few weeks later the terrifying news came that the donor was no longer available.

Today, Keane and Ethan have still not found a donor. That's why we ask YOU to help save these two precious lives and the lives of all the other children, who need a bone marrow transplant. Blood cancers, such as leukemia, are the most common disease children in the U.S. die of. For a lot of them there is a cure, but only 20% of those who need a transplant, find a match. A bone marrow test consists of four cheek swabs or drawing a teaspoon of blood to determine the DNA tissue characteristics. The results will be placed, anonymously in the National Marrow Donor Program's (NMDP) registry.

Register as a donor and save a life! MSL has teamed with the music industry and this summer registered over 5000 18 to 27 year olds nationally on the 2007 Vans Warped Tour. VIP InfoThe first day was a sell out and with so many VIP blood donors had a great time it made the first day very special. If you were out at the tour and you had your VIP, I’m sure you had a great time. Some of you at first had some issues on access and by 1 pm we had them all worked out. Many of the smaller backstage areas were non-accessible due to the crew learning the first day. But the VIP access by the buses and media areas was great!! I saw some of you taking pictures with Steven from FuseTV, some with the Matches, I saw Anberlin chatting with many of the VIPs. The list goes on. I need to see some pictures posted. Some of you found out that we were letting you come to the Backstage BBQ… Yes you could have gone. For those that are coming out to the next few shows. Be aware that we have a lot of security training each day. Please stop by our booth and find out all the news for the day before freaking out!! We are here on tour to help. See you at the Vans Warped Tour. MUSIC SAVES LIVES, the trusted conduit between music, entertainment and important life-saving causes, is teaming up with the world famous Vans Warped Tour, and blood banks across the nation, to rally thousands of concert goers to give blood and sign up for the national bone marrow registry program. MUSIC SAVES LIVES blood drives are running a few weeks and days before the Vans Warped Tour and every participant who donates blood gets a one-day VIP backstage access pass in addition to the opportunity to save someone's life. Last year, more than 3,000 people participated in the inaugural MUSIC SAVES LIVES blood drives connected to the Southern California Vans Warped Tour dates. To illustrate the power of this effort, the same time the year before, the Southern California blood banks collected less than 300 donation from people under 25. This year they have taken it nationwide and are looking for 10 times the donations as last summer. If successful this will be the largest summer collection program that targets youth under 25 in history. MUSIC SAVES LIVES seeks an ultimate goal of raising over 30,000 units of blood this summer in the USA. Every summer the blood supply across the nation drops to critical levels, primarily due to the fact that almost 30% of the blood supply comes from college and high schools. During the summer, when school is not in session, many areas in the nation suffer from a low blood supply. A low blood supply can result in postponed surgeries, and can be life threatening in critical trauma situations and to cancer patients after treatments. The American Red Cross and many other blood banks are participating in hope to encourage young blood donors to save as many as three lives by donating just one pint of blood. By reaching out to concertgoers each day of the tour, MUSIC SAVES LIVES ultimately strives to register 4,000 new bone marrow donors. Registration only takes about 10 minutes using a simple and painless cheek swab, used for type matching of possible donors with leukemia patients waiting to be saved. All donors who register with DKMS Americas also become part of the WMDA (World Marrow Donor Association) and the NMDP (National Marrow Donor Program). The University of Missouri-Columbia and the American Red Cross have teamed up for this 2 day event, April 4th and 5th collecting over 3000 units of blood. The drive is part of the MU's Greek Week, and is themed "All We Need is Blood" based on the hit Beatles song from the 1960's. To add to this amazing life saving event, bone marrow registration brought in over 1100 new registers to the bone marrow donor list today alone, which is by far one of the largest registrations to date for DKMS and Music Saves Lives!

We are so happy to be able to be a part of this wonderful event.

thank you and Save a Life! www.musicsaveslives.com Music Saves Lives
Music Saves Lives®http://www.blogger.com/profile/05571310247342787091noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35625160.post-37066799204235374602007-04-02T21:28:00.000-07:002007-04-02T21:38:25.510-07:00Week on the VANS WARPED TOUR!!!

We will announce the WINNER of the week on the 2007 Vans Warped Tour April 10th, 3 days before the kick off party!

thank you and Save a Life! www.musicsaveslives.com Music Saves Lives
Music Saves Lives®http://www.blogger.com/profile/05571310247342787091noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35625160.post-38403377003034690172007-03-18T21:24:00.000-07:002007-03-18T22:27:54.889-07:00

Music Saves Lives and Senses Fail Brings you up close with the band on the Rockstar Taste Of Chaos. WANT TO MEET BUDDY FROM SENSES FAIL AND WATCH THEM ON STAGE AT THE 2007 ROCKSTAR TASTE OF CHAOS? Here is what you need to do, when you come to the Rockstar Taste Of Chaos tour in your city. This MUSIC SAVES LIVES promotion is just one of many related to the ultimate goal of raising over 30,000 units of blood this summer in the USA tied to the 2007 VANS Warped Tour. Every summer the blood supply across the nation drops to critical levels, primarily due to the fact that almost 30% of the blood supply comes from college and high schools. During the summer, when school is not in session, many areas in the nation suffer. A low blood supply can result in postponed surgeries, and can be life threatening in critical trauma situations and to cancer patients after treatments. The American Red Cross and many other blood banks are participating in hope to encourage young blood donors to save as many as three lives by donating just one pint of blood.
thank you and Save a Life! www.musicsaveslives.com Music Saves Lives
Music Saves Lives®http://www.blogger.com/profile/05571310247342787091noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35625160.post-15288965296521217412007-02-20T08:50:00.000-08:002007-02-20T10:13:07.361-08:00Bands on Rockstar Taste of Chaos Register to Save Lives.Bands and production staff on the 2007 Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour will be registering for the DKMS Americas bone marrow list to save the lives of leukemia patients. The San Diego date of the tour will be a special one as each one will take a moment out of their crazy day to be a part of history. Music Saves Lives has been hosting a booth on the tour and have registered over 100 donors in only 3 tour dates. Music Saves Lives is on track to have the largest number of donors under the age of 25 to register for the bone marrow program ever in history. Music Saves Lives will reach out to 100+ concertgoers each night of the tour. Registration only takes about 10 minutes and a simple buccal swab of the mouth used for bone marrow type matching of possible donors with leukemia patients waiting to be saved. All donors who register with DKMS Americas also become part of the WMDA (World Marrow Donor Association) and the NMDP (National Marrow Donor Program). You must be in good general health and between the ages of 18 and 55 years old to register on the bone marrow donor lists. Each participate of the Music Saves Lives / Rockstar Taste of Chaos bone marrow registry will be entered to win a week on tour with the 2007 Vans Warped Tour. It will include a tour bus spot, all your meals and air travel if necessary to meet up with the tour on the road. Reaching a goal of 3000 registered will be a milestone for adding donors under the age of 25. The average bone marrow drive in the United States typically has less than 20 people register and the average age of the participate is over 35. By registering donors at a younger age it offers a larger pool for the difficult matches and healthier participates. Details of how to qualify for the week on the Vans Warped Tour and Pre-Sign-ups can be found by going to www.musicsaveslives.com “events page”. Kevin Lyman, the man behind the Vans Warped Tour, has once again created a successful model of more-bang-for-your-buck. Lyman says, "We have succeeded in giving a world audience an action-packed lineup for an inexpensive price. The success of the tour on a worldwide level has been unprecedented. The 2007 USA and Canada tour is our strongest lineup to date and we are excited to bring this great show to the fans." The Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour is scheduled to hit 41 cities in the U.S. and Canada between mid-February and mid-April. The multi-artist package in the U.S.A. and Canada will feature THE USED, 30 SECONDS TO MARS, SENSES FAIL, SAOSIN, CHIODOS, AIDEN, EVALINE and other special musical surprises to be announced.
