Minnesota Eagle Forum, under the capable leadership of State President Bonnie Nugent, hosted an evening with Phyllis Schlafly on July 19th. Phyllis was introduced by Eagle Collegian Jacinta Latawiec, and Phyllis proceeded to hold the overflow audience spellbound with a most informative power point presentation on the devastation that would result if plans for the North American Union are allowed to come to fruition. When Phyllis finished "connecting the dots," the audience had a complete eye-opening picture of the well-documented strategies in place and the powerful players taking part in this underhanded giveaway of our national sovereignty. Only an informed and energized grassroots can stop this misguided steamroller.

Alabama Eagle Forum President Eunie Smith hosted the 26th Annual Leadership Conference of Eagle Forum of Alabama Education Fund on July 13-14 in Birmingham. It was the most successful conference ever, attracting over 400 participants including about 25 congressional, state, county, local, and school board officials. Eagle President Phyllis Schlafly addressed the banquet on the topic "How a North American Union Would Devastate America. "Other speakers included Dr. Don Wildmon (CEO of the one-million-member American Family Association), James Spannÿwho spoke on "Correcting Global Warming Propaganda," Phllip Jauregui on "Legislating Morality and Why the Law of Gravity Is Non-Negotiable," Dr. Elizabeth Kantor on "The Politically Incorrect Guide to English and American Literature," Cathy Barneson "Facts on Fiction" (parent guidance for recommended reading lists), Deborah Garrett on "Conservapedia" (a conservative online encyclopedia), and John Stonestreet on "Recovering a Biblical Worldview: the Crucial Ingredient for Real Cultural Impact." Saturday morning featured a panel on "Stopping Illegal Immigration" with Rosemary Jenks, Georgia Senator Nancy Schaefer, and Alabama Rep. Mickey Hammon.

Virginia Eagle Helen Blackwell helped make the difference in a crucial election year when every seat in the Virginia state legislature is up for election. Over the past two years, some of Virginia's leading Republicans have disappointed conservatives by supporting increased state taxes. Eagle Forum President Schlafly sent letters endorsing the conservative candidates in 3 Senate primary contests and 2 House races to Eagle Forum members.Thanks in part to help from Phyllis Schlafly and Virginia Eagle Forum's P.A.C., a strong batch of staunchly pro-life, pro-family conservative challengers won Republican nominations for some key House and Senate seats.

When the votes were counted, four of the five were victorious, with Tricia Stall defeating a RINO incumbent in a primary in Newport News, and Patricia Phillips defeating an opponent in suburban Northern Virginia who spent $348,000 (of mostly his own money) on a Republican party canvass - to her $45,000! Bob FitzSimmonds was unopposed for the Republican nomination and is campaigning vigorously against incumbent Democrat Chuck Colgan in the Manassas area. On the House side, Brenda Pogge triumphed in a good Republican district in the Williamsburg area, and Faisal Gill won the GOP party canvass against school board member Julie Lucas whose greatest accomplishment was mandating full-day kindergarten. The Washington Post's disappointed headline was "Moderates Defeated in Virginia Primary."

The Tennessee president of the Eagle Forum, Bobbie Patray, asked Bush to pardon two border guards jailed in Texas. The president told her he would make no promises even though he said she had a nice smile.

“I would not expect him to answer to answer me that but I appreciated the compliment,” she told News 2.

A conservative group has criticized a federal court ruling that overturned a state ban on advertising legal bordellos in Nevada's largest cities, saying it takes away local control over the issue.

Nevada Eagle Leader Janine Hansen finished off another successful session lobbying the Nevada Legislature. The Nevada Eagle Forum helped pass a law that prohibits trafficking people for illegal purposes and that penalizes businesses that hire “unauthorized aliens”; a law that prohibits the state government from confiscating firearms during emergency situations; a law of reciprocity for concealed carry weapons permits; and a resolution urging Congress not to reauthorize the “fast track” approval of international trade agreements. Nevada Eagle Forum helped to defeat a bill authorizing a statewide lottery and a bill that would make failing to wear a safety belt a primary offense.

LaNeil Spivy, founder of Texas Eagle Forum, was honored at a wonderful luncheon in Dallas, TX on May 31 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Texas Eagle Forum. She received the "Super Eagle" award.

Eagles from everywhere flew in for the event and there was a large turn-out. The influence of the many members of Texas Eagle Forum cannot be quantified over the last thirty years and the dignified character of each and every Eagle cannot be questioned

Founder of CasiNo Watch, Pat, along with her husband Mark, worked tirelessly to defeat a bill that would remove Missouri’s $500 loss limit. The bill, sponsored by two Republicans, tied removing the loss limit to government scholarships for bright Missouri college students. The Missouri Teen Eagles spent several days talking to senators about the bill.

Tennessee Eagle Bobbie Patray’s hard work paid off last week when SJR 83, a resolution calling for the pardon of Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, passed the senate 30-0, then passed by the House by 91-0-6 and was signed by the Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen on May 3rd. The resolution calls attention to the “extreme injustice” and “unprecedented and ill-conceived” charges against Ramos and Compean by the federal government.

Among reasons given by The Tennessean’s editorial to support ERA were that Thomas Jefferson wrote that “all men are created equal” (but that’s not in the Constitution), and that women basketball players were called a bad name by Don Imus.

Eagle Leader Debbie Joslin deserves a standing ovation for her tireless effort to pass an Alaskan advisory banning health benefits for the same-sex partners of public employees. She started a group called Vote Yes for Marriage, Alaska!, which raised $35,000 compared to the $84,000 raised by the opposition. Despite the difference in funding, Debbie’s group helped lead the way to victory. The advisory passed with 53% of the vote. Some areas, where the advisory was the only ballot issue, voted for the advisory 3 to 1.
