New Menus at Kickbacks - FINALLY

Kickbacks has finally ditched the old stapled paper menus and replaced them with newly designed ones, thanks to Joe(y) over at Compound Graphics. The new design makes it easier to find your favorite dishes and ties in with the fun atmosphere of the gastropub. Most of the menu items remain the same with the exception of a few additions. The Dark Crystal at the 5 Points Theatre

This Friday, November 20th, the 5 Points Theatre has a special treat for all Jim Henson fans. They will be showing the puppeteers classic tale of good versus evil "The Dark Crystal" as their midnight movie.

"Another planet, another time. 1000 years ago the mysterious Dark Crystal was damaged by one of the Urskeks and an age of chaos has began! The evil race of grotesque birdlike lizards the Skeksis, gnomish dragons who rule their fantastic planet with an iron claw. Meanwhile the orphan Jen, raised in solitude by a race of the peace-loving wizards called the Mystics, embarks on a quest to find the missing shard of the Dark Crystal which gives the Skesis their power and restore the balance of the universe."

Jason remembers seeing this gem on the big screen many eons ago and has owned the movie on VHS, Laser disc, and DVD. It goes without saying that he totally recommends you go see this movie on the big screen.

Jason forced us to post proof that he has The Dark Crystal on DVD....that's his cat Souki photobombing.

Hubbard House Benefit TONIGHT at the 5 Points Theatre

The 5 Points Theatre will be having its very first "Ladies Night" fundraiser event this evening, with a showing of "Coco Before Chanel" at 7 pm (Doors open at 6 pm) to benefit Hubbard House. Donations of clothing and toiletries are also requested.

The movie portrays the early life of Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel and her first steps into the world of fashion. In French with English subtitles, it starts Audrey Tautou, who is known for such works as Amelie and The Da Vinci Code. If you can't catch the event tonight, the movie will be shown again at the theatre November 20 to 26.

Oh WOW! We cannot wait to check out this kick-ass new movie coming out April 16th of 2010 called Kick-Ass.

7th Annual Riverside WineFest

The 7th Annual Riverside WineFest is this coming Saturday, Nov. 21, from 6 to 9PM in 5 Points “Downtown” Riverside. The fall festival features food vendors, live entertainment and shopping, all to benefit Big Brothers & Big Sisters and Riverside Avondale Preservation (RAP). Cost for the event is only a $30 donation and comes with an engraved wine stem and a $5 coupon that you can redeem as you wish with participating Five Points merchants and vendors. Cruisers Grill in Lakewood - Now Open!

Jacksonville Confidential's "Den Mother" Linda informs us that Cruiser's Grill ("home of the best burger ever") is now open in Lakewood. They moved in where Atlanta Bread Company was on San Jose Blvd, across from the Winn Dixie on University Blvd, in the same plaza as Tijiuana Flats (5613 San Jose Boulevard). Here is their website and menu. Linda says that she can, "personally vouch that EVERYTHING on the menu is great!" She and Emily popped in today for a burger and fries and left totally satisfied.

RIP - Ken Ober

Do you guys remember MTV's first original non-musical program Remote Control? The show basically kick started Adam Sandler, Denis Leary, and Colin Quinn's careers. Well the host from the show, Ken Ober, passed away this past weekend (November 15th). We were like, "Huh?", when we read the report because we totally remember the show and Ken Ober but couldn't think of seeing him in anything for many years. According to reports he's actually been working behind the scenes on shows like The New Adventures of Christine and Mind of Mencia as a writer and producer. Ober was 52 and a cause of death is unknown at this time. RIP Ken.

The Skinny on Dave's Diner

Since we posted about Dave's Diner Closing (954 Edgewood Avenue) in Murray Hill, we've received tons of feedback. Here's what we have pieced together from all of the information received so far.

The first news to come in was that the owners of Dave's had lost their lease and that another business was taking over. Then we heard that David Perrialt and James "Allen" Woods who own Park Place Lounge were going to occupy the space and call it "Roosters" and will still serve breakfast and lunch. We'll see, let us know if you have any more info.
