He is being pro-active in facing the consequences of his actions, which he freely admits were inappropriate.<BR/><BR/>He will be on Al Sharpton's radio program today, and you know he will be on the hot seat there.<BR/><BR/>In the larger picture, Don Imus, and his wife Diedre, do so many extraordinary things for children in not only the US, but over the entire world, that it is difficult to think he has a predudiced bone in his body.<BR/><BR/>But, as he said this morning, part of what his radio show is about, and has been about for 35 years, is making fun of everybody. He now states that it is clear to him that there are some people that you should not make fun of, and a group of young women playing in the National Basketball Chamipionship game is not a group that should be made fun of. They have dont nothing to be called out on, and he also stated that this situation is making him look at how his show is run...the whole show, how they deal with topics and groups.<BR/><BR/>He also doesn't think that his charitable work (which is substantial, imo) gives him a free pass in this situation. He wants to meet with the team, coaches, and administrators at Rutgers, so he might also personally applogize to them.<BR/><BR/>In the final analysis, this situation certainly does focus an unfortunate light on race relations in our country. When a sophistocated, mature, and apparently big-hearted white man, can make such a scurilous remark about young black female athletes...we obviously have a very long way to go in this regard as a society.<BR/><BR/>I hope the press will be as free in reporting the outcomes of Imus's repentance as they have been of his initial remarks, horific as they were.Tammy Garnernoreply@blogger.com
