Questioning evolution WITH SCIENCE is fine. Teaching religion in public schools, and in science classes on top of that, is not fine. And if you're not religious, then why on Earth would you think that teaching religious mythology in a science classroom is anything even remotely near a good thing? What we have is a group of religious extremists who prefer a literal interpretation of their ancient book of mythology to replace centuries of scientific research. And they want to do this on the taxpayers' dime. If they actually came up with some real science to back up their mythology, that would be one thing, but instead they try to wrap their mythology in the language of science and re-sell creation myth as "intelligent design theory" and every legitimate scientist on the planet says that it's not real science.

And the fact is, if these were Muslims trying to do the same exact thing in some country in the middle east, you would be the first to cry "Islamofascist."

Bravo to you, Bud! And Jason, how does wanting the right to question evolution in the public square, inlcuding public schools, equate to "banning the teaching of science"? I thought you liberals were supposed to be all for the free exchange of ideas. But, apparently, not when it comes to your creation story. And I'm not religious, btw.

Ohhhh, Dwana, I forgot that you know everything about me already! I don't know if it's worth explaining myself to somebody who already knows all there is to know about me.

But seriously, I believe in the Marxist perspective that religion is the opiate of the masses. Some users of opiates find inspiration, while some would rob and kill you. Then you've got your dealers who are in it for the money and power. Anybody who uses Christianity, Islam, Judaism or whatever to be a better person is fine in my book. But those who want to shove it down my throat whether it be by banning the teaching of SCIENCE or having our government support it or flying planes into buildings because of it is going to get a fight from me.

So the question is, are you a good Christian, or are you one of these extremists who wants to make everybody believe the same thing as you?

Or am I just wasting my time here telling you things about how I think that don't go along with your preconceived sterotype?

"I don't hate Christians personally"? Next you'll say that some of your best friends are Christians. Gimme a break! I can actually respect a hater if he's honest about it. But please don't insult my intelligence by expecting me to believe that rhetoric that would be instantly recognized as hate when directed at minorities isn't hate when directed at Christians. Why do you liberals keep up with this con that anti-Christian bigotry doesn't exist?

Oh, that's right. You only hate "religious extremists". And just who might that be, Jason? Christians who believe the Christian foundation of this country should be acknowledged and respected? Christians who believe that the right to free speech applies to them, too? Christians who believe that attacks on their faith and community should be answered in the marketplace of ideas? In short, Christians who won't stay in their place?

Jason, just be honest about your hate. I'm sure you'll get lots of traffic from fellow Christian haters just like the anti-Semites get theirs from fellow Jew haters. So don't worry about no one reading your blog if you acknowledge the truth, which is plain as day anyway. Heck, you might even get more visitors like me who appreciate honesty even when it's ugly.

Poorgirl, I don't hate Christians personally. I hate religious extremists of all stripes and their organizations who want to have power over everyone. I hate people who want to tell me what I should and shouldn't see or hear (and that includes any PC stupidity as well). But what I hate the very most are religious extremists who push for their theocracy that would be as intolerant and oppressive as anything we've seen in the Muslim world who whine intolerance and oppression when they're called on it.

The "jackasses" aren't demanding that The Golden Compass not be shown but are just asking their constituents not to go see it. Kinda like changing the channel, which is what you Christian haters are always telling Christians to do. If you don't like what's on tv, change the channel. Well, that's what CL and FF are doing. I bet if some gay group was calling for a boycott of this film you'd be all for it. Bigot!
