Modular Knitting Class and Great American Afghan Project Kits

Hello Everyone!

As some of you know, (but many don't :), we have Ginger Burns coming to the shop for a Design Your Own Modular Knit Garment class on November 7th and December 5th, from 10-4. The first part of this workshop will teach us Modular Knitting. In this class, we will learn to modular knit making mitered squares and rectangles. During the second part of this class, we will use our newly acquired knowledge and apply the mitered techiniques - with Gingers guidance and support - to custom design a garment. Ginger will focus on the custom design process and fit to create garments that dazzle. This should be a great learning experience for all levels of knitters! Class fee for this class is $80.00 and there is still room to join us! Call us at 603-505-4432 to reserve your seat in this class!

Ginger will also have her garments on display on Friday evening, November 6 for a trunk show... rumor has it some of her garments will be for sale... oh la la! Come and see for your yourself the amazing things you can do with modular knitting!

Well it certainly isn't the weather here in New England. Cool and wet has been the forecast just about ever day so far this summer, but the knitting has been far from cold....

So we are still waiting for T-Shirt weather to show off our new Knitting with Friends® shirts, now available in sizes Small through 2XL and in three designs, including the new "Knit Two Together" design as shown on the left!

We have received more of that fantastic Pure Silk 20-2 from Ivy Brambles and their new line of Ivy Brambles Shetland 2-ply (fingering weight and 380 yards per 100g skein) which is hand dyed [show left in Autumn Flame], and available in semi-solid colorways and just too yummy for words, perfect for colorwork, Shetland and Fairisle sweaters etc.

Maine Fiber Frolics 2009

Just got back from the Maine Fiber Frolic, it was a great sheep and wool event although we managed to book two shows the same weekend so I went there and Cyndi ended up teaching a sold out sock knitting class at the Granite State Knit-In up on Loon mountain (a fabulous event hosted by New Hampshire knitting guilds).

We featured some great yarns by Cascade, Cherry Tree Hill, Dream in Color, Ivy Brambles, Kauni, Schaeffer, Sereknity and Serendipitous Ewe, and Ivy's Knitting with Friends line that went over very well with the folk up in Maine!

Hot items were Cascade Ecological Wool, Ivy Brambles Sockscene Sock Yarn, Serendipitous Ewe Self Striping Sock Yarn, Knitting with Friends Needle Gauges and Greeting Cards, Ivy Brambles Superwash Worsted and the so hard to get Kauni Yarn.

Thanks to the organisers who put on a great event and made everyone feel very welcome!

Stitches South and Other News from The Yarn and Fiber Company

Stitches South was fabulous! And will be again next year! We met sooo many of our customers and made many new friends! We were thrilled with the warm welcome we received from everyone - thank you for sharing your time with us!
A new yarn we brought special for the show was Ivy Brambles Pure Silk, which was on display with a gorgeous lace pattern designed by Joanne of Jocre Arts. The pattern is called The Lacey Scarf pattern and called out to mostly everyone walking by the booth.... just one touch and everyone agreed that the 100% Pure Silk was simply heaven. This Ivy Brambles Pure Silk yarn has become a favorite lace yarn of many at the show - the colors and the feel of the yarn make it irrestible. We hope to see many of these scarves walking around the show next year at Stitches South in April 2010!

Other new lines introduced at the show included Knitting with Friends (T shirts and notions), Sereknity Yarns, Serendipitous Ewe sock yarns, Cherry Tree Hill Semi-Solids and other Ivy Brambles Yarns all of which were well received.

We also brought the entire range of colors from Cascade's Eco-Wool and Eco-Wool Plus to the show - lots of knitters will be wearing this new coat featured in the Sally Melville Mother and Daughters Knit book which takes 3-5 skeins of the Cascade Eco - great yarn, greater yardage, and even greater price for this lovely coat!

A quick fyi, we just received the new Addi Click interchangable needle system. Now Addi Turbos are available in an interchangeable needle set. The set includes 10 sizes of needle tips ranging from size 4 to size 15, ultra flexible blue cords in 24", 32" and 40" length, and a connector piece to join cord lengths. The connector also lets the knitter turn the cords into a stitch holder. Needle tips click securely onto the cords without the use of a tightening tool, so they are easy and fast to change and stay put until you're ready to switch to another size.

Upcoming events in the very near future - we will be at the 3rd Annual Sheep and Wool Fiber Festival at the Coggeshall Farm, A Living Musuem in Bristol, RI this weekend on Saturday, May 16 from 9 - 4 and we will also be at the Londonderry, NH Spring Fling Craft Fair this upcoming Saturday from 10 - 4:00 - Come and say Hello!

Check out these really cool t-shirts and greeting cards! Knitting With Friends is a new line at The Yarn and Fiber Company and everyone is loving them!

These t-shirts are fantastic! Soft and fun! Notice in the picture, that these cute and fuzzy sheep are not just knitting, but knitting "with" friends! And, who would think that not only sheep knit, but alpacas and yaks knit too!

Great colors (hot pink, light pink, gray, teal, light blue and purple), great sizes (M-2XL) and a great price!

And, need a card for your knitting friends...... Knitting with Friends has a variety of greeting cards and all are blank inside for your own personal message and is card is packaged with an envelope and wrapped in cellophane. JAPANESE LACE KNITTING PATTERNS INTERPRETED - Understanding the Lace Knitting Patterns of Naoko & Kazuko Ichida with Sandy Terp of Moonrise Lace Knitting.
This class will help you use these sometimes challenging charts. As we work with several of the patterns by Naoko & Kazuko Ichida you will come to understand how to read and understand their charts. We will rechart into Lace Shorthand, which for these charts, uses a semi-circle chart for the beginning, than a panel chart for the remainder. This workshop will teach you how to rechart any lace pattern in any language. You will be able to truly understand how the stitches are put together to form the pattern. This workshop is appropriate for intermediate to advanced lace knitters who are looking for something challenging and new to learn.
