The opening reception was wonderful. I really appreciate everyone that came out to make it such a success. I have been looking at these images for almost a year now and to get to talk to people and see their favorite was really fun. I was so pleased to sell several pieces last night!!!!

Good morning --Bon après-midi (Good Afternoon)

Just got Eliza to the bus and Hunter off to Byrd and wanted to share my excitement about this evening- first thing this morning ( as you can see--I haven't even brushed my hair yet!!) I hope to see everyone at Artspace from 5pm -8pm then a little dinner across the street at the Robinson Film Center bistro- love the menu item "Sliders"-they are these little hamburgers (sort of like Krystal hamburgers--growing up these were always a treat).

Anyway, my Jeffy, is in Paris France, and I wanted to tell him good morning from the States. I wish you were going to be with me but I know that you will be in spirit. BTW-this post and pic is dedicated to you Jeff. ( Jeff loves to take pictures of himself in mirrors and reflections during his travels!!!)

'Forever' dialogue was a goodie

About 20 people showed tonight at the Robinson Film Center for the first edition of our monthly dialogue series. Pictured (from left to right in artful blur) are Scarlett Hendricks, Steve Roell and me. We chatted about "Forever," a documentary by Dutch filmmaker Heddy Honigmann, and their interests in cemeteries and roadside memorials. For me, it's simply great to be a part of a crowd that is passionate about understanding what they see. Thank you to everyone for coming out and extending a Sunday night.

A photography exhibit called In Memoriam opens Thurs, May 15 at 5:00 pm, at artspace, says Pam Atchison. Artists Steve Roell and Scarlett Hendricks explore memorials: Roell’s work considers Roadside Memorials. Hendricks’ photos explore “Gallic Ghosts,” French Cemeteries from Paris to Provence”. The In Memoriam exhibition opening is held as part of the free third Thursday Trolley Night: TNT Express: An Explosion of Art and Culture in Downtown, Shreveport. There will be entertainment by Diedre and Bob, refreshments, and a trolley tour that takes guests around the 15 cultural destinations in the downtown area providing a “sampling” of the cultural venues. No charge at all, says SRAC. 673-6500

Join me this Sunday evening at 6pm at the Robinson Film Center...

The French documentary, "Fovever", will be showing, and afterward will be an informal discussion with Alex Kent from The Shreveport Times. The focus of the film is the cemetery Le Pere-Lachaise, in Paris France, which is one of over 20 cemeteries that I photographed last summer while traveling in France.

This is to help introduce the upcoming opening of my work in the photography exhibit "In Memoriam" which will open at Artspace this Thursday, May 15th. I will have 29 pieces of work that I am sooo proud of. The exhibit will be up until mid June.

The Robinson Film Center is finally open.....

This past weekend my husband Jeff and I along with 700 others celebrated the long awaited opening at the fabulous gala. Jeff has served as the chairman of the Board from the inception of this project and has volunteered countless hours along the way. It is a one of a kind art and education film center, modeled after a center in California and one in upstate New York. It has been six long years, and it is way cool..... I am soooooo proud of you Jeff.

Happy New Year....

Getting back in the swing of things, after a neck surgery a few weeks ago. My lil sister, emailed me and told me to PLEASE update MY blog. Thanks Hope. I am looking forward to many fun adventures this year, my work is about to be examples in a new book published by Wiley Press---Photographing Children... It should be available in the next couple of weeks through amazon.com. I also have an upcoming art exhibit at ARTSPACE in May and 2 special photographic journeys abroad. Stay tuned...

BTW... Check out my sister's website www.hopemabryphotography.com . I am so proud of her, she picked up a camera to photograph her children a couple of years ago. She lives in Scotland with her husband Adam and two little girls, so the next time you travel to Scotland she would love to document your journey with a portrait. YEAH HOPE !!!!!

My new Exhibit----Private Dreams and Public Faces.......

It is such an exciting time. There were around 100 friends joining me in celebrating the opening of my newest exhibit at the American Rose Center. I would like to thank each and every one of you that made the trip out. I haven't seen Rose (first photo below) and her husband Louis in such a long while. I photographed them a couple of years back for SB magazine as well as many other friends.

It was so special to see 34 of my favorite pieces all hanging together in one place. Looking around the exhibit, confirms my passion for photography. I hope that you will go see the show, it will be up until August 31st...

Thank you, especially to my subjects that have allowed me the opportunity to "see" a little of me in them.....

Happy Anniversary Jeff...

I just wanted to share a few photographs from my wedding 5 years ago today. I am still in the works of putting together MY images for the wedding album. Just never enough time...

To my husband, you are my love and my best pal. I look forward to 50 more fun years together. Thank you for YOU....!! I am the luckiest gal around!!!!

P.S. Our dear friend Nell Shehee caught the bouquet, I photographed her wedding to Graham Kramer from Alexandria on March 17th. I would like to think our "lucky bouquet" had something to do with it!!!

Then and Now....

Just working tonight and found these negatives that I had scanned in the computer. These 2 shots are from the very first roll that I had taken with my new Hasselblad medium format camera on Christmas morning 10 years ago... It only seems like this was yesterday...

AND NOW my son is taller than me and my daughter almost eye level... Time flies almost too fast....

WHAT A GREAT WORKSHOP....

Just a few candid photos of the GREAT TIME we had with Joyce Wilson last week. She and her sister Emily came to my studio to present a workshop on Beyond Portraiture. We had so much fun with new digital techniques... making negatives from digital files then going into the darkroom!! In the darkroom, we experimented with making prints from very old processes. Such a nice diversion from digital. We also spent time behind the computer creating very fine portraits and even applied actual pastels for a really beautiful effect. We also made time for location shooting, on Lake Bistineau, with mint juleps and great models... Our California friends loved this Southern Style of photographing!!!!

We are already cooking up plans for the 2 ladies to come back for the fall of 2008. Please let me know if you are interested. Space will be limited. Check out Joyce's website----joycewilson.com

So Busy.......

I've been so busy over the last few weeks, no time for blog entries. So what is going on. I am shooting and editing, just finished taking an Advanced Photoshop course, hiring and training my new office assistant Michelle, I have hung my own exhibit at the Women's Department Club-which is now leading to another show, shot all the festivities of my good friend Nell Shehee's wedding last week--( check out the paper for their awesome shot), have a booth this week at the Jr. League's Trends and Traditions, am hosting a workshop in my studio for Joyce Wilson, an internationally recognized photographer from California next week. So please forgive me..

Joyce is giving a public FREE lecture and slideshow presentation at Centenary College on Tuesday night at 7pm in Jackson Hall room 304. It will be a real treat....

Among all the chaos, I am starting a portfolio of personal work for my next show. Check it out...

Learning from the 2 of the Best...

I just got home from studying with 2 of the best wedding photographers in the world, Marcus Bell from Australia and Joe Buissink from Los Angeles. It was fun thumbing through the albums and seeing the portraits of many Hollywood celebrities weddings and parties that they have photographed (Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilar, Stephen Speilberg, etc.) Mary Ann Elston and Ashley Elston and I learned so much. What a great time!!!

Learning and Leisure in San Antonio.....

I just got back this week from a workshop in San Antonio. Two of my other local photographer buddies and I learned and shared photography as well as having lots of fun. Even though my foot was bummed up from surgery, that didn't interfere...

it's good to have great friends that will wheel you around...

Thanks to everyone for a great 2006....

It has been a wonderful year, one of many special moments was of little Catherine "signing" -Thank You, to me for shooting her portrait. I'll just sum it up by saying, "That was pretty awesome". It is like a golfer shooting the hole-in-one. When that sort of magic happens, you keep coming back for more. As we begin a new year, just a thank you, from me to you, for allowing me to be a historian for your family.
