Photos from APT at GOMA

Just found out I can move into my studio at uni next Tuesday. I am wanting to do some work. I have ideas that need to be let go :-) Also I am getting a bit bored at home reading and watching movies after work each day instead of painting and mucking about in the studio. Also I found out yesterday that I have been accepted into honours. It felt good to read the email. I sort of knew I would be but I don't like to count my chickens before they hatch ;-)

I am starting to want to make art again. Didn't take long did it? :-) the studios should be available in January so I will be really frustrated by then. I have some ideas for paintings that I really want to start on. maybe i should go to the workshop and start making strainers...

We are also going to start looking at leasing a warehouse/big space soon. There are about 8 of us. Can't wait for that!

Excited about the exhibition tomorrow night at uni. I am going in this arvo to make sure it is all running smoothly. It would be terrible if one of the fluoro tubes stopped working on the night!!

The black hole

Setting up yesterday was pretty easy, when I actually got some help. After 3 hours of waiting around, Andrew who had nothing to do with the building of my hallway and didn't need to do it, offered to help. He was a superstar! and Mostyn my lecturer got it all happening. He's the best!

Now my hallway is constructed. It is 3.5m long, 2.4m high and about 1.5m wide. It cost quite a lot and took a bit of extra effort, but I am thinking it was totally worth it.

This isn't even being marked on my assessment! I am doing this just for the graduation exhibition because I wanted to. I THINK I AM GOING CRAZY! hahaha. I could have made it so much easier by just hanging my big paintings but I wouldn't have been as happy with the outcome.

Today i am putting in the black lights, the roofing and installing the paintings. I am thinking about painting the floor black but I will see what happens.

I didn't think it would get done yesterday and was preparing myself to not be included in the exhibition. The last week has been really full on and draining and it looks like it will end positively which is great.

Busy! no time for rest, yet...

Went into uni today to see what i should do for our end of year exhibition. Looks like I will be setting up all day friday. I hope i can get the time off work without any problems...

Post critique blues

Got the post critique blues...

I have still got work to do for the end of year exhibition but i have been feeling increasingly down the last week. After seeing the rainbow I felt better :-) it was a sign from the universe. hahaha

Today I finished painting the panels that make up my false hallway for the end of year exhibition. there are 6 side panels and the front panel below. i just have to get my fluoros tested and tagged and make some curtains. Hopefully it will look fabulous. I have put so much work into it (and money).

I just typed in depression as a tag and it says it is mis-spelt...

and now it isn't

it's just trying to make me feel better...

Sick

Well uni is pretty much over for the year and I am now sick, just as my part time job gets busier and i still have construction work to do on my hallway for the end of year exhibition. it was inevitable really. I have been willing myself not to get sick as I just didn't have time for it. Only about two more weeks of stress to go :-) and then I can have a short break before I start reading up on psychogeography for next year.

Went in to the workshop yesterday and did some work on my hallway. I got three panels done. it will be 3.5m long and 2.4 metres high. the hallway is 1.5 metres wide. Now just have to do 3 more side panels, the front including door trims and the roof. so quite a bit actually hahahaha.

A group of us at uni are looking a leasing a warehouse to use as studio space. It is very exciting. After uni finishes we will be inspecting places. hopefully we can get something affordable. we are looking for enough space for 7 to 8 artists.

I am really looking forward to graduating this year.

I have been so slack with posting. maybe i am just going through a non blog phase. i am doing stuff but it doesn't sound interesting to me.

going in to uni today to do work on my piece for the end of year exhibition. On Friday I hope to start work on the hallway i have to make so I can present my work in the dark. that will be interesting. i love doing stuff in the workshop with all the saws and drills etc :-)

I have been away for so long. The exhibition went well. I made a few contacts and may be participating in a group show in February next year in a great gallery in Brisbane. I also met another artist who creates work on a similar topic. We are talking about a possible collaboration. I have never done that before so that would be a good experience. I have some photos but i just have to find them :-)

Going to uni today. There's only about 3-4 weeks left... i won't have a studio to paint in after that. I am hoping that they will let me stay over the holidays as I am doing honours next year anyway. I am going to start looking for a studio to work in. I can't afford much at the moment so that might be a problem. We'll see what happens.

I am working on my application at the moment. I have Jenny Watson as my painting supervisor and Craig Douglas as my theory supervisor. It's a bit scary at the moment as I am not too confident about the theory side of things. I get credits but I want high distinctions... I understand theory, in theory. At RMIT i was doing a masters degree and I got really fantastic marks, but i was mostly writing from my own point of view and experience as a graphic designer. We also learnt about semeotics, socialism, marxism, french philosophy, death of the author and other interesting sterf. At QCA I have to write about things I don't fully understand because the jargon and highfalutin writing in art theory text books does my head in :-)
