bobby fisher memorial building show

They YAY team made a mural at the Bobby Fisher Memorial Building for The Group Installation Show 2. In the mural we tried to combine our two very different aesthetics into one final piece that we both enjoy. We each began on our wall and tried to work towards the others' area, invading and combining the two initially seperate works. The two members of the YAY team tried to choose multiple symbols, that when depicted together, stood for a sort of self-portrait, reflecting the kinds of comprimises and connections that happen between two people in a relationship.

freeway park in seattle

Freeway park, it is one of the harder spots to find in seattle and when you get there the restroom is closed, all of the plants in the large concrete planters have become root bound and leggy, there is a lingering reputation for crime and drug use and almost all the fountains are turned off due to leaks and financial woes of the park. Despite the reveiws of local critics and the lack of attention given to the place the innovation of the design shines through, putting freeway park at the top of my favorite designed spaces list. The ridged form of the concrete mimics rock out crops and many of the plants look as though they know they have spent their lives clinging to a bit of dirt, curling their roots and filling any crevice they can just to hold on. Fitting I guess. The waterfalls helped complete this illusion as well as the patches of grass below the falls that have a strangly distant perspective.

Chapuchi; basket weaver,landscaper,pastor, car repair man, farmer, story teller, Chapuchi awsome voice maker. This is a story he told me today.

There was a time i was working in a store and a black man come in to purchase beer. He Tried to use a crtedit card with a hispanic mans name on it.

The man at the register asked him to show his identification card and when he presented it there was a hispanic man on it.

The clerk said, "this is not you."
The man said "no! it is me i just drank alot of beer and my skin turned black."

moth manor, the second entry to the design contest

The second entry for the coveted corner display booth at the leesberg flower and garden show.
Statement of Intent: This garden is inspired by giant silk moths. Thier elegance and soft textures are the point of origin for the design. The garden is not just inspired by moths it also functions as a hub for them. All of the plants either attract pollinating day moths or feed giant silk's larva, prompting them to cocoon in the garden. In the center of the garden are chairs and flashlights to see at night, however every vantage point was designed with a mobile viewer in mind. Also included is a display case housing specimins of all the plants that feed larval giant silk moths. The final result is a garden with subtle tranquility and scholarly specificity.
