Falling For Fall Fashion

Ok, so here's what's on my radar for fall.
Long cardigans with skinny denim and tall boots have crept back into the spotlight. It's been done to death and was on the way out last year, but is back with a vengeance for fall. I think it's because the designer and stores had too much back stock so they decided to plague us with the look yet again. Thanks. I will save you with the fact that wide leg is a go as well this season. So either way you'll be workin' it.

The short, full skirt is everywhere. I have to say that I kind of missed picking up on that, but my uber fashionable girl friend sister pointed it out to me. I don't know how I missed it. This look is super cute with high heeled Mary Janes or short boots.

Black and gold is everywhere too. Metallics are out. Patent leather is hitting the road, but I'll always love it. I'll love it more when everyone isn't as into it, but I totally understand the obsession.

Has True Religion become the new Mom Jean?

There are some great new denim lines out there that I'll admit I'd been hesitant to try until lately. I must say that I can't believe I've put it off for this long, because that's just not like me. It's time to put away your Citizen Jeans, True Religion and especially your Seven denim girls.

If you haven't tried Justin Timberlake's William Rast jeans on for size then you've been wasting as much time as me. The fit is perfect and flattering on the tush. The denim quality and feel can not be beat. Plus this denim has true city credentials. Your Sevens jeans are not worthy. Trust me.

Genetic Denim is another fave of mine. This great denim line is known for it's great fit for different body types and it's truly flattering. The denim is ultra soft too. It's new age in a way with a touch of retro chic. This brand is a must try if you haven't already.

Last but not least is JBrand. For the past three years this line has continued to offer a sleek, sophisticated denim with just enough edge to give it a city vibe. The denim is super flattering. Groovy cuff bracelets are all the rage as demonstrated by my oh so stylish childhood friends at a recent jaunt back to my hometown for a birthday celebration. I can always count on these gals to be true original trendsetters. The look they were sporting is oh so rocker chic worn with denim and a hipster top.

Since I'm not big into faux Jewelery I recommend you try getting a good deal on the real stuff at places like Bluefly if you don't want to splurge. The Bag Closet

I'm a self confessed bagaholic. I'll admit it. I love handbags. It's hard to resist getting a new one each season. Although, this year I challenged myself to hold off as long as possible. The goal was to be better at switching it up.

Well I did it. First, I dug out my lovely buttery soft, toffee colored Bulga bag with the fringe only to be greeted by tons of compliments. And it just so happens that the bag has just the right amount of fringe which is big for fall. So on the mark.

Second I dug out an older Isabella Fiore woven handbag. Again this bag is perfect for this time of year. I also felt I was paying homage to the late Isabella Fiore line. I did and do love those bags. Oh the days of long gone by.

I even dug out an old Marc Jacobs from before he was so in and every suburban Mom had one. I also took out a more popular version in this lovely shade of pinkish purple. It looks just like the versions still sold in Neimans. Funny how that happens.

My metallic Kooba got the most compliments with metallics always so popular in the summer. The style was a little obscure with it being an older model so it was really fun to wear.

I challenge you girls. Do it. Dig out your older bags. It's somewhat freeing. Not to mention you'll be different, because you'll have to think about what you're doing. Everyone else will look like clones carrying the latest and greatest at a store near you.

I just love this time a year. Fabulous Sample Sales are popping up all over the city. What's a gal to do. Run now. Don't walk. The Botkier Sample Sale ends today. I hit it up earlier in the week and can assure you there are some good finds. The small Bella bag runs about $175. and the Bella Clutch only $75. What a steal. The line's a little long but it's definitely worth the wait. They keep restocking the room and there is a second floor with extra special mark downs.

Sale. Sale. Blabbady. Blah. Blah. It's everywhere and kind of tiresome. Don't get me wrong, there are some great deals out there but sometimes a gal needs a little something new.

I've been scoping out these new shoes for fall by Tory Burch and can't wait to wear them even thought it's June. I love The Patent Sophie Wedge and equally love the Whitney Patent Bootie. In fact I think I'll be sporting it this fall. I love the round toe and platform sole.

I almost got Theory's patent ankle bootie last fall for lack of a better option. It's ok, but just didn't win me over in the end. A little too Ann Taylorish for me.

The hair styles of late have a more flowy, natural look. Hair is longer. Layered. Looser. I love this look mind you but I must say that this is the perfect time for any stylish gal to straighten her hair. Go against the grain, Girls. Go!

You must try the new TurboIon Croc Hair Flat Iron. My fab stylist, formerly of Bumble & Bumble NYC was dying to try it out and me. I of course was game. This TurboIon flattened my wet hair to straight in seconds. It was amazing. I didn't even have to dry it first. Wet to dry. You'll toss your currently owned flat irons out. Now I know you savvy gals do not worship the sun. Wrinkles and sun spots are not our friends. However just a quick jaunt from the front door to your car or a cab can do damage over time. If you smartly use Retina A then beware all the more. You should be using your sunscreen all through the winter, but with the heat now upon us it's use is important all the more.

My favorite sunblock of all times is made by Neutrogena. It was recommended to my by my dermatologist eons ago. The product is supreme and the price can't be beat.

Now I've always been a big fan of Peter Thomas Roth products but I found their sunblock to feel heavy. It would rise to the surface of my skin as the day wore on and I would start to resemble Casper The Friendly Ghost. I just stumbled however on the New Peter Thomas Roth Uber-Dry SPF 30, UVA/UVB dry to the touch sunscreen. Great for normal to oily or acne prone skin. It is full of free radical fighting vitamins plus it's water resistant. (4.2 oz $26. )

Another more than worthy mention is DDF's Enhancing Sun Protection SPF30. It actually color corrects. It hides redness with self-adjusting color spheres. I don't know about you but I always get red from any amount of sun and that's not a pretty sight. Love the added Antioxidant complex. Every girl needs the Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral Powder SPF 30, brush on powder in their bag. Even if you've been good and applied your block in the am by mid day you need more. This little tube is so portable and freshens your face mid day. It blocks UVA/UVB rays with its finely milled powder. I'm so getting this to tote around.

Beaten Brows

Ok, lets talk brows. Never, never get your brows done where you get your nails done. I mean never. No excuses. Ever hear the saying that you get what you pay for? My Mom loves that one and with good reason. $10. brows are $10. brows. I don't care if you even like them or think they look good. The first thing people see is your face so good brows are worth the investment. Also, you should not be doing your own at home. You just should not for any reason. Trust me we can tell. I can spot a home grown or mani-brow a mile away.

If you don't know where to start or where to go then ask your hairstylist. A good stylist should be able to refer you to someone decent. You can also ask a makeup artist at one of the department stores if you happen to like their brows.

Now, do not fret if you've had the mishap of brows gone too thin by fads of previous years or an overzealous waxer. There is hope. Either regrow and reshape them with the aid of an expert or work with a makeup stylist on how to fill them in at home. Their are some really great brow kits out there. Booty Flattering Bell Bottom and Wide Leg Denim

Welcome back Bell Bottom Jeans. Big for Spring this look is super flattering for real girls with curves, because the bell gives the booty some balance. After the dark denim of winter this denim is great in white or a light denim wash.

I just bought the Super Flare Stardust Jean by Joes. Joes is my new jean of choice as of late. The rise is a tad higher but not the typical new high waist that I detest. Joes Jeans are really flattering on the tush too because the pockets are placed high and closer together than say on the Seven or True Religion denim. You have to be very narrow to wear True Religion. These Joes Jeans in person flare a lot more than in this photo. The wash is super light so it's dressier than your regular faded pair.

New But Not So New Faves

There really are some great new designers that have popped up over the last few years. Alice and Olivia has been getting the most press and the clothes are fabulous but there are others too in the press and in the stores that are truly worthy.

One of my new but not so new favorites is Nieves Lavi. Husband and Wife team Sam and Sharon have a fabulous line of silk tops, caftans, and dresses. The colors are beautiful and the patterns are truly different from others out there. There's a real twist of Spain perhaps from his time at the Academia Isa in Madrid. I love this uber cute top found at Willow St. in Summit, NJ. where the very talented staff can put together an ensemble that would rival any fashionista. Luckily they have a website too.

My second new but not so new anymore favorite is designer Jodi Arnold and her clothing line Mint. This former Danskin designer has a dazzling style. Let me guess, the long dress is big for spring. Yes, that news is everywhere. Not much of an original idea. I have plenty of long dresses that I wear every summer. This is like saying white denim is in for Spring. Oh did you hear that color was big for spring. Well I've got news for you girls when the weather warms up, we all wear long dresses, white denim, color, and patent leather the fad du jour. I'm looking for some inspiration ladies. I dabbled in belts a couple of years ago with my purchase of a satin belt from Intermix to wear up high on my ribcage over a blousy top. Now I'm feeling that the time has come to dabble some more.

Belts are everywhere. There are many fun ways to wear them and it's a good change from the denim sans belt look we've been sporting for the past 10 years. It's time to switch it up, Girls. Tuck in your fabulous blouse and adorn a fabulous belt. This look is super chic and city worn these days. It's oh so 90's to go without. Trust me. That's an outdated look.

Whether you need a little help or a lot there are some really great products out there to cover redness these days.

A must try is Adjust by Smashbox. This line was created by the spawn of Maxfactor and it has fabulous primers. Everyone must use a primer so why not use one that does more than just prime the skin. Their Photo Finish Color Correcting Foundation Primer Adjust is the one I apply before my foundation. Its green tone battles redness superbly.

Even the CVS found product Eucerin has come up with some great items for battling redness. In fact they have an entire kit for treatment however my favorite is their Redness Relief Redness Reducing Concealer which evens out red skin tones with it's green neutralizing color. It blends easily with it's sponge tipped end. It also has Licochalcone, which is an extract of the licorice root known for calming the skin. Love it!

Now my latest fave red battling product of late is by none other than Laura Mercier. She's got this Secret Camouflage, which completely covers . It even completely covers dark circles and minor blemishes. It's a two-shade system to match your skins different tones so that each woman can custom-blend her own color. This is complete true coverage without being cakey. The consistency is unique and not like a concealer at all. It will not slip off your face halfway through the day leaving you bare. It covers well and stays on yet you feel like you're not wearing anything. I love this product. It's a must buy.

I loved my Kork-Ease last summer. This shoe originally designed back in the 50's for comfort was a big hit in the 70's. This year the shoe will continue it's comeback of last summer and why not. It's comfortable and super cute.

I'm loving the new patent Kork-Ease. I'm even leaning towards the lower heel this time around to switch it up from last year. Check out the Myrna II Sandal in Red Patent. How cute will this be with your wider leg, white, denim pants. This color is a must. I'm also into the gold pair, since I'll already be sporting silver in my Tory Burch wedge. Good By Mummie Tummie

I always had a flat tummie until I had kids. After my second daughter was born and I lost the baby weight that thing was still around my middle. I tried to hide it. I bought one of those Spanx bottoms that attaches to your bra, but two years later it still has the price tag on it. I guess it was just too much like a girdle for me to squeeze myself into it. I think I would have preferred a tummy tuck to actually wearing this thing even though I did purchase it.

La Mer and Laura Mercier's GWP also caught my eye as I was exciting the store, but I am happy with my purchase.

Now if you're going to go leather then the Mike and Chris Jude Leather Coat is the only way to go. It's super light weight which makes it a great spring option. Silver is big for Spring and patent leather is still going strong. There are a lot of shoe choices out there but I've narrowed it down to make the decision a snap. Remember what you wear on your feet is as important as what you eat.

The Metallic Sailor Wedge by Tory Burch is the It Shoe you must own. Silver of course. This shoe is hot. Your last summer shoes will appear unworthy. I love the woven straw wedge. The rope adds the perfect amount of detail. I also like that the Tory Burch logo has taken a back seat to the actual design of the shoe. I'm getting a little tired of the big logo everywhere. This wedge is so sexy on. Can't wait to wear it with my jeans.

The Michael Kors Chic Strappy Flat Sandal in silver looks great on too. It's strappy and sexy making it the perfect flat for Summer. This lovely flat shoe has more to offer than your usual flip flops. It's a true step up from that look but you will still get the same level of comfort.

I love product as we all now. I love gloss and am never without a bevvy of glosses in my handbag. I switch them up from time to time to keep things fresh which means I'm always on the look out for a great gloss.

So you'll understand why I was more than giddy when I saw the new Kiehl's Lip Gloss display in stores. They come in a tube and are easy to apply on the go. With extracts of grape seed, mango, rose hips, and apricot kernel this gloss is a nutritious lip choice. It's not sticky so when the wind blows your hair won't stick to your face. I just love that. I got the color Earth Day. It has just the right amount of pigment to be worth another gloss purchase and I have too many glosses than I care to mention. Last but not least is Shu Uemur's more than spectacular display at Neiman Marcus. Haven't used Shu since the 90's. I was more than happy to see this line reappear. Great product. Great packaging. Every girl should own a classic Eric Javits Swinger hat in black. Mine is in dire need of replacement. I'm dying for a new one and as luck would have it I'll be going somewhere warm soon. The Patent Leather bag trend is still going strong. Every girl should own at least one unique version. Just a regular looking bag in patent leather won't cut it. You need a great color or a great shape otherwise your look will be tired.

Product For The Guy Of The House

There are some great products out there for men. Of course I the product junkie bring them home for my guy to try. He's got a pretty quick routine so I've had to find products that are multi purpose. I've had to find things with simple packaging and not a lot of scent too.

So far Anthony Logistics Razor burn repair has been my best product find. My Hub actually uses it. I don't even think he knows of its anti aging ingredients. And hey, what he doesn't know will help him. He likes the anti redness ingredients of marshmallow and aloe vera and says the chamomile and St Johns Wart really calm the skin. I like that he's secretly getting some A, C & E.

Dr. Bronner's Bar soaps were a good find too. I like the unscented one for myself, but for men I'd go with the Peppermint, Eucalyptus, or Tee Tree. The scents are invigorating and the ingredients are loaded with some great essential oils. Whole Foods has a pretty decent selection and your man can pick up his own while he's picking up your organic coffee.

My favorite of all must haves for men right now is this boar bristle nail brush by Kent. I'm definitely getting one of these. There is nothing worse than those icky plastic nail brushes laying near the sink or even in your medicine cabinet. Yuk.
