Well if you are on the fence, read this promo material on Keystone:

Vacationing at the Keystone Ski Resort

If you are trying to settle on a ski resort to spend your next vacation then you have probably skimmed the material for the Keystone ski resort. If you have then you have probably seen much to enjoy; the Keystone ski resort remains a highly popular destination and for a number of good reasons. It is a solid resort that makes a fine vacation destination. After all, if this was not a solid vacation destination then it would never receive the huge high marks from vacationers that it has consistently received over the years.

What People Want in a Vacation

There are a number of factors that go into the selection of a ski resort. While each and every individual person will have their own personal likes and dislikes in a ski resort there will also be certain specific and general positives that people will look forward to when they are selecting a ski resort. In other words, along with Keystone ski resort virtually every other ski resort positively must follow a certain module in order to be successful in the marketplace. As such, a few of these positives need to be examined under the microscope of clarity.

The Location

The Keystone ski resort is located in Colorado and it is a wonderful location. Colorado remains one of the most solid ski locales in the world and it would become difficult to think of a location that was more agreeable. As such, the land in which this resort rests upon make it highly desirable and for good reason.

The Slopes

One of the selling points in the advertisement for the Keystone ski resort is the mention of "three mountains." This is a critical point of contention because the variety in the slopes on these mountains allow for a great choice of slopes to fit every experience level and personal needs. When a ski resort possesses great slopes it becomes hard to argue against visiting it!

Johnnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388561654426343387.post-61652023217439613662008-01-08T06:36:00.000-08:002008-01-08T06:37:32.347-08:00Keystone superpipe opensfrom The Denver Post

The deep snow has allowed Keystone Resort to open its 450-foot Superpipe in the A51 Terrain Park, joining Copper Mountain and Breckenridge with open superpipes. Human-triggered avalanches are probable on steeper, wind-loaded slopes above tree line, especially in areas where slabs are sitting atop rotten base layers.

With a westerly flow, temperatures won’t be particularly cold, so the weather service is predicting the snow level will be at about 9,000 feet initially, dropping to 8,000 feet Thursday night.

The medium-term forecast includes a continued chance of snow through early next week.

Check in with the avalanche center for updated forecasts and avalanche bulletins at http://avalanche.state.co.us/ or by calling (970) 668-0600.

Johnnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388561654426343387.post-46984474508439299642007-12-04T05:06:00.001-08:002007-12-04T05:07:03.493-08:00Keystone received 7 inches of fresh powder overnight Saturday, December 2.

Johnnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388561654426343387.post-68236133530135637472007-12-04T05:05:00.001-08:002007-12-04T05:06:18.749-08:00Storm Dumps Snow at Ski Resorts Across WestSilverton, CO - Potent winter storms dropped snow this weekend on ski and snowboard resorts across the western U.S., with the jackpot centered on southwestern Colorado's San Juan Mountains, where up to four feet of new snow was reported.

<img src="http://www.firsttracksonline.com/news/images/silverton_071201.jpg" alt="Workers had to clear up to four feet of snow from Silverton Mountain's ski lift on Saturday. "This is the second largest 24-hour snow total in the history of Silverton Mountain -- the only larger storm to hit Silverton Mountain was during the record setting winter of 2005, which dropped 117 inches in one long storm cycle."

Silverton had hoped to open its ski season on Saturday, but county snow plows had a tough time navigating the road to the ski area, with several vehicles getting stuck. Rope lines used to delineate open and closed ski runs were buried.

Nearby, Wolf Creek Ski Area near Pagosa Springs, Colo. reported 31 inches of new snow in 24 hours from the storm, allowing the ski area to progress to 100 percent operation. Mid-mountain snow depth at Wolf Creek is now reported at 28 inches.

Snow depths were more modest but nonetheless welcome in other parts of the state. Sunday morning’s mid-mountain measurements showed 15 inches of new snow at Beaver Creek, with 11 inches falling at Vail and Breckenridge and seven inches at Keystone over the course of the weekend. The new snow snarled the Charles Schwab Birds of Prey World Cup ski races in Beaver Creek, forcing a postponement of Saturday's Super G to today, but also allowed central Colorado ski resorts to expand terrain open to the public. Beaver Creek’s Rose Bowl opens today and Breckenridge will open Peak 8 on Saturday. North Peak, Keystone's second mountain, will be ready for skiers and snowboarders by next weekend, resort officials indicate.

The powerful storm originated in the southwestern U.S., striking Utah before moving into Colorado. The new snow arrived just in time for opening weekend at Alta Ski Area high above Salt Lake City, where a 14-inch storm total brought settled snow depths at mid-mountain to 32 inches. In the Wasatch Back, Park City Mountain Resort reported a total of 10 inches from the storm, augmenting base depths and improving surfaces on the ski area's four open trails. It was Park City’s first big snowfall of the season, and skiers, snowboarders, and local residents welcomed the new snow and the positive impact had on conditions at the town's three ski resorts.

A separate low pressure system swept off the Pacific Ocean into the Pacific Northwest, dropping 19 inches of snow on Washington's Crystal Mountain Resort, where four lifts opened Saturday for 2,000 skiers and riders anxious to start their season. While base depths reached 40 inches, the freezing line moved significantly higher overnight Sunday night, and Crystal has again closed until further notice, to reopen as soon as conditions allow.

from: http://www.firsttracksonline.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=3359

Johnnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388561654426343387.post-53407813781382268622007-12-03T06:12:00.000-08:002007-12-03T06:23:14.950-08:00Copper gets 4 inches and opens new terrainCopper received 4 inches of fresh snow overnight and it continues to snow throughout the morning. There, the plastic was baled and taken to Denver. The MRF also took 100 pounds of cardboard, and recycled some of the extra bed frames as scrap metal.

About a month before the new beds were set to arrive, Slottow sent an e-mail to Vail Resorts employees statewide, offering up the 7-year-old beds being removed from the rooms.

Employees picked up 91 of the mattress sets, and Slottow donated the remainder to two nonprofits in Denver.

After that, all he was left with was five box springs.

"We actually cut apart the box springs then clipped out the metal springs themselves and Kevin (Berg) was able to recycle those as scrap metal," Slottow said. The fabric from the box springs was also recycled.

The only thing that couldn't be recycled was a few wooden crossbars that were laden with metal staples.

"In the end it came to about two to three yards (in the landfill) versus the 200 yards," Slottow said.

November, Keystone's environmental manager, said the resort's lodging facilities have arranged for beds to be reused in the past during replacements, but that no other project has been quite as thorough as the one spearheaded by the Inn at Keystone.

One of the big reasons for that was the addition of the MRF at the landfill last year, which enabled the resort to get rid of all the plastic, November said.

November would like to see the initiative taken at the Inn at Keystone become a trend at the resort.

"I hope that this can be the standard going forward where we think about what the potential impacts would be and take the time to figure out how we can really lessen waste," November said.

Over the summer, the Inn at Keystone added recycling bins in all its rooms and in its parking garage to make it easier for patrons to keep recyclables out of the trash. The lodge also replaced all its lightbulbs with more efficient, compact fluorescent bulbs, Slottow said.

Nicole Formosa can be reached at (970) 668-4629, or at nformosa@summitdaily.com.

Johnnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388561654426343387.post-51085500328892202872007-11-27T07:07:00.000-08:002007-11-27T07:11:44.759-08:00Keystone spa undergoes facelift — and goes greenBy KIMBERLY NICOLETTI
summit daily news
Summit County, CO Colorado
November 25, 2007

KEYSTONE — Sometimes buildings need a major facelift before they continue to host guests for a rejuvenating experience, and the Spa at Keystone Lodge underwent just that — and in a green way.

The multimillion renovation showed its fresh face at a recent opening, after months of construction, which involved gutting and redoing the entire area, plus adding approximately 4,000 to 5,000 square feet, doubling its size.

Michael Simmons, the spa director, began running what he called an “antiquated and old” spa in July. He helped with some of the new design aspects, which include men’s and women’s locker rooms (before only a women’s room existed), a couples’ suite and a 600 to 700 square foot relaxation room with a fireplace. The spa also has a nail salon for the first time, and it will have a spa concierge, who escorts guests throughout their day so they don’t have to worry about the time.

Going green
“It has a double tag line — nurture and nature of the earth,” Simmons said. “It has a lot of natural stone and wood — we’re sticking with the naturalness of Colorado and going very green.”

For example, the rubberized flooring in the gym is made of 100 percent recycled tires. The wood floors are 66 percent post-consumer wood products, and the staff’s uniforms are made mostly of hemp.

“We’re using and reusing anything we can,” he said. “I’m really proud to be part of an organization that is on the forefront.”

Rob Katz, chief executive officer of Vail Resorts, stressed the importance of going green, saying the company believes it’s not only the right thing to do, but also represents where the entire travel industry will be heading in the next several years.
“According to the World Tourism Organization, ecotourism is one of the sectors expected to show the strongest growth over the next two decades, and according to the Travel Industry Association of America, very large majorities of travelers think that the environmental practices of where they stay is important to their decision. Companies that find the way to achieve the ultimate luxury experience in an environmentally sensitive way will become the future leaders of the travel industry. RockResorts will be one of those leaders.”

A massage room with a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy tub.
Summit Daily/Eric Drummond

Browse and Buy
Summit Daily Photos
Look and feel
Alder wood and soft earth tones make the spa’s atmosphere relaxing and serene.
“It integrates the look and feel of the lodge, yet gives a contemporary look,” Simmons said.

Simmons has been in the spa business for about nine years.
