This has to have been the most unproductive period in my entire life. Slowy, but surely I am getting back on track with the comics and the movie.

First off:

I am concluding the comic Bluewing with issue no.5. For various creative and business reasons, I've decided to bookend that series there and continue the Saga of Bluewing in a newly titled series and possibly a webcomic or if I can pull it off, maybe even a new regular cartoon series that picks up where Bluewing no.5 leaves off. It will be released in a special 8x11 format and there will be a special compilation in 8x11 available only through Lulu.com. Issues 2 through 4 will be released in color, likely on Indy Planet and I may color issue 5 and make a color comp available through them as well or through the main Bluewing website.

Following this issue I haven't yet decided if my next comic project should be the new series or to get the Wraith #6 done and out of the way. Issues 3 through 5 of the Wraith are still in production art-wise.

Secondly:

I am working out post problems in Adventures in Nonconformity and am currently looking into several solutions and am still deciding on the format length for the web. If it is possible to post 30 min segments I may go that route, but there are certain advantages to doing smaller 10 minute or so episodes.

Thirdly:

My new pet project is a show based around The "Sinister" Mr.X. The goal is do a show with as few actors as possible and be able to do all the shooting and post work all myself and complete the shooting and post in a single day. It's an "X-periment" in DYI using lots of costumes, puppeteering and blue/green screen. It'll take some work to get it going but the goal is that once it's set up, it will not be hard to continue to make them.

That's all for now and as we will be saying on the new show..

X-out..

joeldanfordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14978841596447181988noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33744381.post-38969926297909468002007-10-04T03:30:00.000-07:002007-10-04T03:31:39.015-07:00New Bluewing GNs coming!! I am currently recompiling all of the existing Bluewing adventures into two graphic novels.

The Saga of Bluewing: the Complete History
volume 1

Contains:
Bluewing no.1
Bluewing no.2
Bluewing no.3
Bluewing no.4
Liberty or Death
Liberty of Death SHIN

The Saga of Bluewing: the Complete History
IN COLOR

Contains:
Bluewing no.2
Bluewing no.3
Bluewing no.4
Liberty or Death
*may include the story Rolling Stones

If I include Rolling Stones in the color comp, I will make it available for free download in case someone wants to purchase the B&W comp, since that's the only story meant to be in color. Not as good as my current stuff, but I think it might be of interest to some people. Superclutz ran for four issues and Berkley had two short lived series that went one issue a piece: 8.Caliber and The Toilet Paper of Spider-whimp. Spider-whimp was actually inspired by a sight gag I did with a toilet paper roll. Berkley also used another character of mine in his first issue of Spider-whimp, Aluminum Man. We both did a story a piece for the Not-so-spectacular Spider-whimp, but Berk's grandmother threw them in an incinerator. A damn shame. This was the late 80's and I was treating the first comic as Web of Spiderman and this one like Spectacular so I did my style in an homage to Sal Buscema's style on Spectacular. Likewise when I did the Unamazing Spider-whimp, I paid a nod to McFarlane. Unfortunately, the originals to that one are messed up and the copies we made are all missing a page. I started a second issue and I may still have the originals for that.

When it was suggested by NEC that I probably couldn't use the name Superclutz, I changed it to Dunder Dunce and at that time Berk and myself formed South Boston comics. I still have copies and originals of the preview issue and the unpublished issue #1 which has 2 additional stories in it. I hope to release all of this as a retrospective. However, I don't think the work on most of this stuff is very top notch, hence I will be making this available as free downloads. The only decent comic to come out of that era was Bluewing #1. Superclutz may be seeing a return soon though. Fortunately I am a much better writer and artist now and I have a much better grasp of comedy now as well.

I hope everyone will check all this stuff out when it becomes available.

joeldanfordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14978841596447181988noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33744381.post-59711129564435669842007-05-01T02:59:00.000-07:002008-12-09T21:52:09.546-08:00FREE BLUEWING GRAPHIC NOVEL!!
As part of Free Comic Book Day weekend I'm offering the first volume of The Saga of Bluewing: The Official Mock-u-history as a FREE download for a limited time (now through May 7th)!!

Download it here:

FREE BLUEWING PREVIEW

joeldanfordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14978841596447181988noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33744381.post-84378797516187052522007-03-24T23:26:00.000-07:002008-12-09T21:52:09.761-08:00Coming Soon!!
The latest issue of Saga of Bluewing Magazine will hopefully feature an article on Dave Ryan's War of the Independents, El Valiente, and the 2 page origin story of The Wraith, told in a similar fashion to the old 2-page Batman origin story. I say "hopefully because" Dave hasn't sent me anything yet (he's a very busy man) and I want to get this to Ka-Blam in time to make the local Bride of Cape con this year at Zeus Comics. It'll feature some blurb regardless, but I was hoping for some pics to show too.

The issue will feature a 22 page re-telling of the 2nd Bluewing story Liberty or Death and this issue will be all black & white. The original done by John Jett was done with the old costume but the replacement for it did not fit the script correctly or corelating artwork unfortunately. So in my dedication to Frank's wonderful character/comic, I did this as a freebie. I hope the previous artists will not take it as a slight and I suggested that Frank include all the alternate artwork from various artists in some bonus pages. Frank said he planned to do that in one of the Wraith compilation novels.

This has been a slow going and tiring project with many setbacks. There is such a hodgepodge of different artists, I only wish that the change in artists could have followed a consecutive order. All the same, it showcases the artistic talents of a handful of very talented artists and it's cool to see each one's style and their take on the character. I feel honored to contribute in this fashion, even if only for one page.

Frank feels that this is still a very strong issue and I agree. Being the letterer, I have gotten to see the finished pages before anyone else, including Frank, so I ought to know ;)

Here's my one page contribution:

joeldanfordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14978841596447181988noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33744381.post-24596653495009037782007-01-29T23:29:00.000-08:002008-12-09T21:52:10.529-08:00MAJOR UPDATE!!Back when I first got onto the crossover thing (thanks to Frank) and Dave (Ryan) told me he was looking for more heroes, I suggested Cerebus. I explained to him that Dave Sim was all cool with Indies using Cerebus for crossovers and that he would more than likely totally support this. Dave (Ryan) wanted Sim's personal OK for it. Unfortunately, the only contact info I had for Sim was the snail mail address off his blog. Dave mailed Sim and FREAKING CEREBUS IS IN!! With Dave Sim's personal approval!! HELL YES!!

Dave has the front cover mostly colored and Frank tells me that it's now going to be a Six Issue Mini-Series!! New galleries are coming along with a Bluewing time-line and guide to the three different eras of Bluewing with extra notes and guidelines for anyone who would like to do a crossover with Bluewing.

We're also aiming to improve the store design, especially for the comics and graphic novels. Hopefully something more simplistic that still provides previews for each book/comic.

Another new thing will be to try and integrate MySpace and Youtube to help out with the video downloads. Not sure how that will affect the flash cartoons just yet.

I'm very excited but there's still much work to be done on the actual comics, Frank's comic, and my long delayed movie as well. Then there's all this crossover stuff. Should be a busy year.. and hopefully a prosperous one for all.

joeldanfordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14978841596447181988noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33744381.post-1169706526430408352007-01-24T22:25:00.000-08:002007-01-24T22:28:46.440-08:00WAR OF THE INDEPENDENTS UPDATE!!Dave just informed me that Scott Lobdell of X-men fame will be scripting the story. This bodes well considering that Scott wrote for the X-men during a very tumultuous time and can certainly handle mutiple characters while giving them all some special focus. More time to promote basically rather than his aforementioned release date of July 07 which would barely give him 6 months to promote the book before it's release. This also gives all the indies involved the time to prepare their own crossover story for their comics should they feel like it.

This is actually good news to me, because it should sink up better with the 3rd Bluewing taking over in the Mock-u-history run, which is the Bluewing that I want to be involved in the crossover. Plus it would also hopefully be after the release of the Wraith #4 which would mean that the current Bluewing and Wraith would have already met and be on good terms.

I know that everyone involved would want to see this sooner than later, but I run into the same thing making movies. All in all this bodes extremely well for the overall project. More time to prep and promote and grab the attention of the comic book reading audience and magazines like Wizard and all the comic book review sites. This thing is huge, epic, and a real first for the industry. It needs to be done carefully and it needs to be done right.

Now we have something really awesome to look forward to in '08!!

joeldanfordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14978841596447181988noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33744381.post-1165668621550281462006-12-09T04:47:00.000-08:002006-12-09T04:50:21.560-08:00MEGA INDIE CROSSOVERDave Ryan is putting together a massive assortment of indie characters in the biggest indie crossover EVER!! We're talking Savage Dragon, Faust, Lady Shi, Madman, Dawn, Shadowhawk, what looks to be Zen the intergalactic Ninja and amongst this mass of characters is Bluewing and our buddy The Wraith standing side by side.

Check out Dave's MySpace:

http://www.myspace.com/davidwilliamryan

Not much of the story is known right now, but this is, to my knowledge, the first indie crossover of this magnitude. This is to help showcase all involved and send a message to DC and Marvel. I'm very excited to be a part of this.

joeldanfordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14978841596447181988noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33744381.post-1161687054258512682006-10-24T03:43:00.000-07:002006-10-24T03:52:34.813-07:00What to do?Well, my plan was to have the first two issues of the Mock-u-history out before Halloween because the 3rd issue takes place during Halloween. Mostly a money and time issue unfortunately. Then I thought of doing a Magazine special with both stories in full color. While doing the Mock-u-history through the Magazine would be a great idea, I was really hoping to have actual separate issue counts and actual issues. However, this may be the better way to go. In context of the magazine, it would be easier to understand and explain. Maybe I can go back later and do separate issue counts as collector items or con exclusives or something.

Doing the stories through the Magazine format would free me up in other ways and allow me to present other stories not from the Mock-u-history and without worrying about finishing it up right away. So be looking for those stories and new stories within the Saga of Bluewing Magazine.. which will hopefully be seeing a new issue very soon.

As always.. thank you for your support and be sure to check out our live-action shorts on http://www.myspace.com/sagaofbluewing

joeldanfordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14978841596447181988noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33744381.post-1157224617235573762006-09-02T11:56:00.000-07:002006-09-02T12:16:57.290-07:00Bluewing VS the Wraith!!
My buddy Frank of the-wraith.com has recently signed a deal with Shocker Toys to produce 6" action figures and 3" Shockinis. He's got 8 figures lined up and each figure is supposed to come with a comic. Problem is, we're still stalling on the Wraith #1 and Frank had only planned 3 issues before hanging up on the comics because of lack of realiability. However.. Frank has had an upswing of luck and even his old penciller, Jim Taylor, has come back. So I approached Frank with a story idea in which Bluewing would appear in a crossover issue promoting one of his figures and he went for it.

This is the first time that Bluewing will be appearing in another comic and the first time someone else paid me to write/pencil/ink/letter a comic. Plus it's gonna be packed with an action figure!! Pretty exciting!!

It does't end there though.. the comic will also be released as part of a new series I am starting called The Saga of Bluewing VS.. in which Bluewing will face off against another indie character in a cross-over issue that will pit the two against each other. The Wraith #4 will be reprinted in this series in FULL COLOR!! In the issue the current Wraith recalls memories from his past life about a confrontation with a Bluewing (the first!). He believes the current Bluewing in this issue (the 3rd Bluewing) to be the same one and hence a killer. Not only does that tension for the two characters but it gave me an exellent idea!! So I asked my buddy Frank if I could borrow the original Wraith to square off against the original Bluewing. That issue I plan to do in the old Bluewing art style with the Wraith's original outfit. These two characters are far more intense than their current incarnation. Don't be expecting a handshake and a team-up on that one.

Other plans for the series so far involve a confrontation with Cerebus, a lethal run-in with another old comic creation of Berkley's from our Superclutz Comics days and beyond that things are up in the air as I make the effort to contact other comic creators to pit their characters in an unconventional crossover that doesn't always guarantee a happy ending.

joeldanfordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14978841596447181988noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33744381.post-1157217627967029502006-09-02T10:18:00.000-07:002006-09-02T10:20:27.976-07:00Adding a pic
Screw using up my own bandwidth..

this pic's for my profile.. bask in it's awesomeness..

joeldanfordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14978841596447181988noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33744381.post-1157190450731927772006-09-02T02:23:00.000-07:002006-09-11T22:14:47.570-07:00Episode IThis is my first official Blog. I'm not real kean on the way MySpace is set up, never the less, I shall be using that to promote things as well. However, this will be my main means of communicating what's going on with creative projects I am involved in, from my own stuff like Bluewing ™ and Adventures in Nonconformity ™ to my work on other projects like Frank Dirscherl's The Wraith ™.

For those of you involved with the movie Adventures in Nonconformity ™, this will be the primary source of updates. So keep checking in here for news on the production. There have been some unfortunate events in my personal life which have yet again caused further delays and obstructions and created new obstacles in the completion of this clearly very cursed production.

Apologies for sounding bitter, I am very exhausted mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically, socially and financially. My patience for dealing with psychos, assholes and psycho assholes has worn a bit thin.

joeldanfordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14978841596447181988noreply@blogger.com1
