Breakwater has a new home!!

Well I announced it this week at church, but everyone needs to know the good news! All summer long we've been having church either at the Yorks' home or at Lake Padden. We had the goal of being in a new building by September and well... September is here. And so is our NEW SPACE! God has provided us with a great place to meet. Our new home is going to be back close to where Breakwater started, actually only two blocks away. We are going to be a downtown church again as we will now begin meeting at the Anker Cafe, which is located at 1324 Cornwall Avenue. It's right next to the WAMU on Cornwall. I'm very excited as the space is perfect for the format we've started this summer, so even though the location will change, our format will not. Our service time stays the same as well. And best of all we're going to start meeting there THIS SUNDAY! No waiting around as it's all ready for us to start meeting. God is faithful and has blessed us yet again! See you all at 10:00 this Sunday at the Anker Cafe.

our Sunday service will be at 10:00 at Lake Padden. It is a potluck
so bring some good eats! We've got one of the covered areas reserved,
so we're a go rain or shine. We'll be going over the last few verses
of Acts 2 for those of you that like to come prepared. Have a great

Mountain Biking!

Sunday Morning Breakfast

This is just a reminder that a light breakfast for Sunday morning is already taken care of, so no need to bring anything! Of course, if you really want to bring something to share you are welcome to do so, but you don't need to.

We will be meeting at the York's home again (map) at 10:00am and will be starting a study on the book of Acts.

The When's and Where's of Breakwater's New Home Group Format

As announced last Sunday, here are some details about the new Sunday Morning Home Group format that Breakwater will be moving too for the Summer. This is very new territory for us, so some of the details will be ironed out as we move forward and figure out what works best. But here is what we're starting with:

When does this new format start?
Our first Sunday of the new format will be June 22nd (two Sundays from now!)

Where will we be meeting?
Most of the time we will meet at the York's home at this address:

1286 West Axton Road (Click for map and directions)
Ferndale, WA

Once a month we're also planning to meet at one of our wonderful parks in the area. More info about those dates and locations will come soon.

What time will we be meeting?
We will be meeting at 10am Sunday Mornings.

Will there be food?
Yes! The general rule will be to have a lighter, continental breakfast when we're at the York's, and a full potluck when we're at a park. For our first meeting on June 22nd we will be having a full potluck at the Yorks.

What is the purpose of this again?
We feel lead to move away from our current building in the faith that God will show us where he wants us to be in His time, just as Abraham did in Genesis 12. We also want to take some time to focus on community, breaking bread together, and rest for the body. This is a huge leap of faith for us, but we know that God is faithful, just as he has been many times in the past!

Official First Sunday After Service Dinner

Many of us go out to dinner together after the Sunday service. While you're still free to do that any time you want, now we're making the first Sunday of each month the official go-out-to-dinner-after-the-service event! Now if you want to join us for some extra fellowship but don't want to go out to eat every Sunday, you can just plan on the first Sunday of the month and know that other people will be there to join you!

Prayer Meeting Location Change

Just so everyone knows, we're going to be moving our prayer meeting location. Prayer time will still be from 9:00 to 10:00 every Thursday morning, but it will now be held at the following location:

The Ludeman Building Corner of Barkley and Woburn 2115 Barkley, Basement Suite Bellingham, WA 98226

This is also known as the Light of the World Prayer center, which is a place headed up by Jason Hubbard and Tim McLellan that is trying to establish around the clock prayer! If you need directions, click on the link and you can get them there.

Service Time Change

MAJOR change here folks! Starting June 1st we're going to be
starting our service at 6:00. I know it's a big change, but I think
we can handle it. We're doing this in an effort to help get people
with kids home at a reasonable time. I know 15 minutes doesn't sound
like much, but for those of you that have kids you know what a
difference that can make. Since the service time is moved up that
means our pre-service prayer time is also going to be moved up as
well. So now the prayer time will start at 5:30. Worship practice
will start at the same time (4:00). I know it's going to be
difficult having to remember nice round numbers but I've got a lot of
confidence in you. So spread the word, June 1st - service time
changes to 6:00!

This Sunday

This Sunday is going to be our Mozambique Informational Potluck. We'll have service at the regular time, but we're going to make it a potluck and when we're all done eating we're going to give you more things that you need to know as far as how you can involved with this missions trip. Now some of you may already be thinking, "I'm not going so I don't need to be there." Whether you are going or not there are still roles to play, and so it is still important to be there. Please make every effort to make it on Sunday. I truly believe God wants to do some amazing things in our church through this ministry!

So we'll see you there at 6:15 on Sunday for the potluck. Just plan on bringing a main dish to share with others, and if you want to bring a dessert or something like that just contact me first so that we don't end up with a table full of cake and cookies.

Important Scheduling Changes

For the next two weeks we're going to be canceling the Thursday
morning prayer meeting. We also are going to be moving the date of
the Mozambique Informational Potluck. Originally it was supposed to
be on Sunday May 4th, but enough people can't make it that week that
we are going to reschedule. As soon as we have a new date, we'll let
you all know.

Mozambique Informational Potluck

Hey Breakwaterites! Just want to let everyone know that on Sunday,
May 4th, at our regular service time (6:15) we will be having our
Mozambique Informational Potluck. We'll start with some food and
then when we're done eating we'll send the kids to Sunday School so
that we can talk more about our upcoming missions trip to
Mozambique. Now whether you are going on the trip or not, this
meeting is important as we will be talking about all of the roles
needed to make this trip happen, even for people that won't be
going. No matter what you can play a part in this mission! It's
going to take a complete team to make this thing work. You are
needed! So please make every effort to be at this meeting as we
start discussing and preparing for this mission God has called us to
and what your role might be!

Children's Ministry Planning Meeting

Are you wondering what is going on with our children's program? Do you have cool ideas that you are dying to share? Do you like to eat? If you answered yes to any of the prior questions, come to our house on Sunday, March 30 @ 2:00. We are planning on making a calendar, having a "brainstorm session" and a time of prayer, and mostly fun!

Please bring your ideas, date books, and an appetite. Also, bring your kids, the Smith boys will be watching over them, so they are in good hands… I think

Thursday Prayer Meeting

Easter Sunrise Service

This year for Easter we're keeping it REALLY simple. This Sunday there will be a morning service at Marine Park at 7:00am. Sunrise is at 7:06am, so this will be an Easter Sunrise Service. It's going to be a shorter service; We'll sing some worship songs, read a scripture or two, have a short word, and meet the Lord together in His creation! Dress warmly. Everyone is invited!

This will be our only service during Holy Week this year; there will no no Sunday evening service on Easter. I know this is a break in tradition for us, but I believe it will be very meaningful. There will also be no kids program during the morning service, but kids are definitely welcome!

I'll see you at 7:00am at Marine Park on Sunday morning!!!

ps - If the weather is rainy that's ok; there's a covered area at the park and God will still be there!

Mens Group // Bowling Night

There will not be a Mens Bible study this Friday morning. Instead we are going bowling Saturday night! If you like to bowl, put on your loudest fashion statement shirt and come on down to Park Bowl at 8pm Saturday February 2^nd. If you don’t like to bowl, put on your loudest fashion statement shirt and just come hang with the guys.

Prayer, Prayer, Prayer!

As we were reminded in Rick's message last night, Prayer is important. We need to keep praying and Rick has specifically called us to focus on prayer this coming year. So this is a reminder to pray. It's so easy, and yet so effective!

And it's likely to make Satan mad...

So let's be sure to also pray for and encourage one another!

If you are a member of the Prayer Wall, please check the Prayer Wall web page and contact your prayer partners. It's easy and it's very helpful to know what to pray for people.
If you are not a member of the Prayer Wall, please consider joining! Just send me an email and I'll add you to the list and you'll get two people praying for you! It's the spiritual pyramid scheme that works!
Please continue to spend a short time in prayer each day and ask the Holy Spirit to put someone on your heart. Pray for their encouragement and protection, and then encourage them by letting them know you were praying or them. Let's grow our prayer culture at Breakwater!
Please continue to pray for Pastor Rick. Let him know that you're praying for him. I just can't stress enough how important it is that we cover Rick in prayer, and how encouraging it is for him to know that YOU are doing so.
Don't believe Satan's lies about how much time this will take, or how self serving it is to let someone know that you're praying for them, or how you'll be invading your prayer wall partner's privacy to ask them how you can pray for them. Those aren't just lies, they're silly lies. We're smarter than that!
And if you fail to pray, if you forget or Satan wins the battle for a day, don't let that discourage you from getting right back to it again! It happens to all of us, and God still loves you and still wants to have a relationship with you!

If you don't like any of these suggestions then please pray for God to reveal to you how He wants you to pray. However you can muster it, just please pray! Start small and make it a habit!

New Couple's Study

Our couples group has just completed the first chapter of our new study, "Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith" by Rob Bell. Sound intriguing? You should totally join us! Not only are we doing an interesting book, but we're also offering Christian support for your marriage. And what marriage can't use some more of that?!

And you don't even have to pre-read a bunch of stuff before you come because we read it together, during the group! It's like getting something for nothing!

Fasting and Prayer for the New Year

Breakwaterites,

As most of you know we're going to be fasting as a church for the first 21 days of 2008, the year of new beginnings! I'm really excited to see what God reveals to us all as we seek His will through prayer and fasting. The four things that I want everyone to focus on in prayer is going to be interceding for the lost, what is your role in the church, growth (specifically numerical growth for the church) and praying for a new location for Breakwater. I'll be sending out more things to pray about, but those are the 4 main things that we will focus on every day.
So far we've got quite a bit of the days covered for fasting but we still need a few more people to take some days. If you're wanting to know which days are available, you can see the calendar here. We also have the calendar here on the Breakwater website so you can check in the right sidebar as well. We'll have the sign up sheet available again this weekend at church.
I've also compiled a bunch of information and scripture about fasting that we should all read before we enter into this time of fasting. It addresses some of the basic concepts of why we fast, what happens when we fast, and all sorts of other questions that anyone may have about fasting. You can get it from Me or Brian if you send us an email.
