Featured below are some of our more noteworthy items currently or recently acquired. Items listed may no longer be available, so feel free to call or email us with any questions.CIELhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12667693125592143011noreply@blogger.comBlogger58125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-30098824621372135142009-05-13T16:52:00.000-07:002009-05-13T17:01:23.342-07:00Great Scott!Well, friends, we took a little break there, but the weekly weekend sale which once made us all so weak in the knees is back! With fortissimo!

Zoom!

And last weekend, we announced it a little late in the game, so here's hoping that Wednesday is enough for the average Conscious Consumer to a) get on website b) find blog on said website c) exclaim 'zounds' at the potential savings had by attending the sale mentioned in said blog d) logout and drive to Olympia Salvage and sign one's signature on a cheque/credit card receipt (we take cash, too!)

So here's hopin'
And another thing... the sale itself!
This Saturday and Sunday, consider the prices on cabinets and furniture to be exactly 35% higher than the amount we sincerely expect you to pay. Unfortunately, this cannot be extended to consigned and vintage items, but that demographic makes up such a small portion of our cabinet/furniture melting pot that who cares, anyway?!
Come in and Save!!

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-78118314920786890762009-05-08T13:27:00.000-07:002009-05-08T13:32:05.579-07:00Hot Dog, a sale!Yes, Conscious Consumer, its that time again. A sale. A big sale. All weekend long, 50% of sinks and toilets. Sure, sinks and toilets aren't all that exciting, but what about when they're half off, hmm? Exciting yet?

Now, our sinks start at around $5, and our toilets right about at $10, so with all those savings, you might want to think about putting a sink in the garage, or a toilet in the kitchen. Why, the possibilities are endless!

We'll see you this weekend.

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-6804526677297281082009-04-20T16:03:00.000-07:002009-04-20T16:08:31.718-07:00If you can't stand the heat...Perhaps it's time for a more heat-resistant kitchen!
Something in a beautiful stainless steel finish, perhaps?
Yes, you guessed it, we have been inundated with an abundance of commercial grade stainless steel counter tops, appliances, and fixtures, priced to move!
Fryers, warewashers, dual-direction food grinders, huge sink and countertop spaces, and over the next week, there will be more to come! This stuff sells for thousands new, but don't expect high prices from us, Conscious Consumer. We have beautiful commercial-grade stainless wares in stock starting at just $250.

Yes, come in and see for yourself, but hurry, it won't last!

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-59493375625138023732009-04-13T12:35:00.000-07:002009-04-13T12:44:58.884-07:00...and now we salvage ourselvesFrom the brilliant minds of the people who brought you Olympia Salvage, comes a new idea, Olympia Salvage!

We have a new plan, a new vision for the future, a plan so dazzling, that the mere notions couldn't be adequately expressed in such a lowly conduit as HTML. But, alas, you go to blog with the tools you have, not the tools you wish you had. So here goes:
over the next few weeks, our warehouse will undergo great changes, designed in mind to make your shopping experience more enjoyable, more efficient, and just plain fun, Conscious Consumer! My best material, right out front? It'd all be downhill from there, and then where would we be?

So, I've wanted to do this for a while, but never actually did it. What is the 'this' to which I am referring? Just what is it that I am blathering about? Is the suspense killing you? What I've wanted to do, is find cool, not-so-obviously related websites and share them with you. And here's the first:
www.weburbanist.com A very cool website, outlining innovative projects, abandoned buildings, new and strange ideas, and beautiful pictures of things we like. Interesting things.

Now, I am kind of new to this whole 'blogosphere' The only Sphere I am familiar with is Thelonious Monk (2 cool points if you get that one) and just maybe, all of you already know about weburbanist.com. Maybe, I am the only one, standing out in the rain with my candle, complaining about y2k, and the rest of you are zooming down the information superhighway, reading my pitiful medieval blog and laughing all the while, "Ha!"
Well, I don't care if I am a Luddite, I am happy the way I am!
Or, maybe I'm wrong, and its really new and totally cool? You never can tell.

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-29650798661957452082009-03-23T13:46:00.000-07:002009-03-23T14:04:48.537-07:00When last we spoke...Greetings, Conscious Consumer!
It has been so long since our last transmission. We missed you, did you miss us? We thought so. So much has changed since last we spoke, and yet, somehow, so much remains the same. Many of you have been coming in to the store, expressing your interest in used building materials, and we have obliged all of your requests as we can.
We continue to see great things streaming into the store on a daily basis. The cabinet aisle is presently bursting at its proverbial seams, and speaking of cabinets, an amazing array of vintage cabinet hardware just came in, after being hoarded in dusty storage for almost 40 years! If you seek to match your atomic age pulls and knobs, now is the time!

Also fresh in, another shipment of everyone's favorite quartz-composite floor and countertop material: Caesarstone! If you haven't been in to check this stuff out, you must! If you don't, you may never forgive yourself! (I would forgive you, 'water under the bridge,' I'd say, but then again, I don't have to live with your horribly outdated kitchen and bathroom every day, now do I?) Yes, we expect one more shipment of this amazing product in the coming weeks, and then poof! No more! Only the ugly ones will remain! (just kidding, they're all as beautiful as baby koalas.)

And its the little things I enjoy. Sure the big glue lam beams are nice, sure I like all the hardwood flooring and raw white oak and rock maple we have in stock, sure we have more like-new appliances than we know what to do with. All of these things are true. But like I once said, not so long ago, 'its the little things I enjoy.'

For instance: the tiny, little cast iron corner sink that came in last week. If you aren't looking for one of these, you may find it to be one of the most ridiculous plumbing fixtures ever created. But if you have ever shopped for one, you will know that finding one feels much the way interpreting the Rosetta Stone must have. (good.)
And all of the new garden gates in stock, perfect time of year, no?
And the two sets of full-light french doors? Yes, you noticed I saved those for the end- just to see who among us actually makes it all the way to the end of these posts. I am only testing you because I never learned a more appropriate way to show affection. And who among us can deny they've never done the same? Really?!

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-88821986922270305172009-02-25T15:10:00.000-08:002009-02-26T14:28:57.104-08:00Stimulate Your Local Economy...And Support Olympia Salvage!

Several downtown Olympia restaurants and drinking establishments will be sponsoring our "Dine Out to Support Olympia Salvage" Event next Thursday, March 5th. We sent out the call, and you've heeded it! Streams of high-quality used building materials and supplies have been streaming in to our store, as well as thoughtful donations of money, designed to keep us in business, so we can go out and get those materials, divert waste from the landfills, and continue to offer low-cost second-use material to you!

But we aren't out of trouble quite yet. There is still a lot of work to do. We are certainly narrowing in on our $60,000 goal. But, with $23,000 in donations, and the possibility of a $25,000 grant on the horizon, things are certainly looking a lot brighter!

So, what we need from you, CC, is for you to show your love for Olympia Salvage, and you have many options to do just that:
Donate materials!
Bring in all that leftover stuff that's been sitting in your garage, or out back. We love your stuff!
Donate money!
Our deconstruction program, like its counterparts throughout the country, operates at a loss. To keep it afloat, we need to subsidize it with revenue from the store, and when store revenue is low, well, we need money from somewhere, right? That's where you can help.
Eat dinner out!
That's right, Thursday, March 5th, several downtown restaurants have joined forces with us, and have graciously offered to donate a portion of sales from that night's revenue to our cause! So eat hearty, Conscious Consumer. G'head, order dessert, you've earned it. Besides, we like the way you look, just the way you are.
And lastly, shop! Like I mentioned earlier, we use revenue from our store sales to fund our decon crews and other projects so come in to the warehouse, and shop! Shop like the wind!

But seriously folks, For a little while there, we were worried. We didn't know if we were going to be able to continue, and it made us all very sad and afraid. We knew that what we had built here, that it was important to us, but what we didn't know was that you, Olympia, felt the same. What we have learned from this small crisis, is that you love what Olympia Salvage brings to your community. It feels so rewarding to hear you come in and say that without Olympia Salvage, a void would be created, and that what we are doing not only has great value to those involved, but that even those not affiliated, those few that come in and shop, and those fewer that have used our deconstruction services in their own projects, and those who simply know we are here and love what we do, that this thing is as important to you as it is to us. Thank you.

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-44545828231995042382009-02-11T15:31:00.000-08:002009-02-11T15:41:42.953-08:00Learn about PaperStone Recycled Countertops...

and support Olympia Salvage!
This Saturday, February 14th at 510 Interiors.

Click on the image below for more details.

Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12907245306994751414noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-81238445186301617482009-02-08T11:12:00.001-08:002009-02-08T11:35:14.714-08:00An update on our current situation:I'd like to take a moment to update our friends and supporters of what has transpired these past few critical weeks. We're faced with the same challenges as so many other businesses in our community and across the country right now, but we're really feeling the pinch due to debts incurred last winter/spring owed in part from an unfortunate project combined with a major expansion of the organization. On January 15th, a letter was sent out via email bringing community awareness to the difficult times that have befallen Olympia Salvage. The letter stated that we needed to raise $60k within three weeks or else we would be forced to close our doors. Well, here we are three weeks later and I want to affirm that we're still open and things are looking promising.

While we've not yet reached the full amount we're hoping to raise, we have made great strides in managing our financial crisis. So far, we've received over $2500 in donations and more than $25,000 in pledge loans from individuals who believe our cause is worth saving. We've also been working with our landlord as well as many of our creditors and several have forgave collective thousands of dollars of our debts while others have arranged payment plans that are manageable for a business with a seasonal cash flow such as ours.

Additionally, we've had several people come forward offering to host house parties so we can make more people aware of our organization and our mission to divert usable building materials from the waste stream. We're also organizing a "Dine Out for Olympia Salvage" fundraiser for Thursday, March 5th, where folks can support local dining and drinking establishments who will in turn donate a portion of their receipts from the evening.

So, what does all this mean for Olympia Salvage? I'd say the future looks bright! While we've made great strides in managing our current financial struggles, we still need your help.

Please, donate whatever you can...$50, $100, more?

Get an early start on spring cleaning and donate any surplus building materials taking up space in your garage or basement (We can arrange for a pick-up, if needed).

Dine out at one of our sponsor businesses on March 5th (contributing businesses will be listed here by February 13th).

Most importantly, I want to take this opportunity to thank all those that have helped us so far. Your efforts galvanize our strength to keep moving forward. Updates will be posted here, on our blog, regularly. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or inquiries for supporting our cause.

Many heartfelt thanks to all,

Michelle Pope,
Executive Director

Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12907245306994751414noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-6064201615003675112009-02-02T13:31:00.000-08:002009-02-02T13:49:05.133-08:00It's a blog, blog, blog, blog world<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 152px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_F9GK89NP4DE/SYdqRhTWUoI/AAAAAAAAADA/q22gtL4tIv4/s200/craigsliststuff+023.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298320335854523010" />
Greetings, Conscious Consumers!
Thanks to your efforts, we are still here to offer you great savings on the finest of reclaimed building materials! Many of you have heeded our call and stepped up not only with your checkbooks, but with material donations, and possibly, the most satisfying way of lending a hand: Shopping!

We at Olympia Salvage would like to extend a warm, hearty 'Thanks, pal!' to all those who came in the warehouse in our time of need to tell us that we are an important part of this community, and that Olympia would suffer a great loss, should we be forced to close our doors. It has always felt good to know that I am a part of a positive force, here in the geographical region of my upbringing, but now more than ever, I am reminded that what we are here for, what we love to do, is making an impact, and contributing to a positive change within the community.

'You like me! You really like me!'

So, to show you how much we appreciate your appreciation: a sale! We have met certain fund-raising thresholds, but alas! we have met a mere third of our necessary goals.

So, if you haven't given yet, fear not! We still need your help. And not just money is what we seek, material donations, and donations of your time, in the warehouse, helping us organize is another fun way to show you care! And that fir flooring, it's here, too. In amazingly good condition, our Decon staff worked their magic once again, removing each plank with such finesse, such, je ne sais quoi, that you'll have to just com down and see it for yourself. Never resanded, 3 1/4" wide boards, approximately 500 sq. ft. priced at $2.75/sq. ft.
And that is just the beginning.

Lately, we've been finding lots of commercial kitchen items in our hands, from stainless fixtures to swinging galley doors, and lots more. We expect to see lots of high-quality true and nominal dimension, tight-grain lumber streaming in from our current project, starting this week. Appliances, cabinets, and some true 2x4s have already arrived.

If you haven't done so already, take a few minutes to read our blog's previous post, to make yourself aware of just what you can do to help us, more than you already have, Conscious Consumer, and how indeed, you, are the ONLY person who can ensure that we will still be here next time, to keep offering you discounted prices on high-quality, salvaged and re-used materials. You know better than anyone, buying used, and buying locally keeps the community sustainable, and makes the world a little healthier!

Thanks for your continued support!

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-32820346573505550732009-01-05T12:41:00.000-08:002009-01-05T12:57:37.787-08:00What's new?

I'll tell you what's new- work! Starting today, our deconstruction crew is back at it, bringing you materials, as well as hopes and dreams to inspire your latest project. This time, they're up in Medina, a suburb of Bellevue. I know what you're thinking, and yes, Bellevue itself was once a suburb, but the times, they are a-changin'.

So come builders and remodelers, who prophesize with your... tape measures?
Soon a new slough of materials will be coming back to the warehouse. Beautiful doors and windows, a nice vintage cabinet set, vintage doorknobs, escutcheons, air vent covers, hardware of all kinds, lumber, and everyone's favorite-- Doug Fir flooring!

Yes, we have 2 1/4" fir flooring, throughout the house, and will be bringing some back, just for you.
It's beautiful, and has been covered up by carpet for a long time, just waiting to shine in your living room.

In honor of this, next weekend, all non-consigned vintage hardware will be 20% off the original price. Some of this will include things from our newest project, as well as other beauties that we cureently have in the store. Come in and check us out soon!

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-89015142057252673982008-12-29T11:21:00.000-08:002008-12-29T11:44:42.671-08:00At long last!Huzzah! (saying huzzah feels almost as good as the virtues which I am about to extol. Would you care to join me in another?)

Huzzah! Yes. That was nice. Now, the aforementioned virtues to which I will now extol are as follows: The snow is nearly gone! It was beautiful, was it not? The beauty it left was felt by all, the silence it created was indeed, deafening. With that, none of us can argue, eh? But it soon became gross, the beauties it made, both visual and auditory were hastily drowned out by wet socks and cursed rear-wheel drive transmissions.

But all of that is behind us! (most of us) And now, we are free to move again, at will! Free to go out amongst our fellow northwesterners and do what we were born to do! What is that, pray tell, you are saying? Be passive/aggressive to one another? No, that is a good one, but not what I was talking about. The destiny we all have in our blood, the one we all share, is the second virtue to which I first referred so early in this post: Conscious Consumerism! Yes, and it's earned pronoun status-check out those sleek capital initials!

So, maybe you say, 'yes, its in my blood, shopping with the environment in mind, but that is old-hat; so 2008, you might say, so what, blogger, are you driving at?' Well, I'll tell you what I am driving at, Conscious Consumer. Perhaps relief from the perils of the "white sin" aren't enough to get thineselves to Olympia and find the gems you need to finish that winter project. Perhaps you need a little shove to get your cookie-heavy stomach up off the davenport and into the car. I hear you, CC. It's hard, you're full of carbs, exhausted, and having a helluva time flipping eggs with that new spatula the twins so thoughtfully picked out for you.

Well wrap your egg nog-soaked brain around this one:

35% off everything in the entire store!

"Too good to be true"you are saying. "It can't be," the throngs are murmuring amongst themselves. So, they're right. There are a couple of exceptions. Consigned items, we just don't have that kind of power. We're not miracle workers, here. We can't just flucuate market pricing, willy-nilly. One day it's up, the next day, down, that's just not our bag. Don't get us wrong, we like you, kid, but it's not up to us, it's coming from upstairs.
Whoa, wait a minute, you don't have to walk away so fast, lemme see what I can do.

(hushed whispers)

Alright, kid. Yer bustin' my agates, here, but the big guy (that's Ms. Pope, to you.) sez we can take the tax off the top off the consigned items-but don't spread it around!
This is a special deal for you only! I like you kid, you're going places.

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-65862502624538781102008-12-22T10:14:00.000-08:002008-12-22T10:25:04.642-08:00Holiday closures...Greetings and salutations, conscious consumers!
The salvage business is a rewarding, yet exhausting one, and the time has come for us to take a little nap. Not a long nap, just, well, a power nap, as they say. We're just going to shut our eyes for a figurative 15 minutes or so, and then you can wake us, and next week, we will cram for the test that is 2009!

In English: we will be closed from Tuesday, December 23 through Friday, December 26, open normal business hours Saturday the 27th through the 30th,(9am-5pm) closing early at 2pm on the 31st, and closed all day on Thursday, January 1st, 2009.

And then, BANG! We will be all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and ready to salvage! The price tags will three times as bright-orange, and the sales, well... you'll have to wait and see.

We hope you have a safe and lovely holiday. May it be merry, bright, high-calorie, low-stress, warm, loving, spiritually moving (or not, whatever you're into) and one to recollect with your offspring or your friend's offspring for years and years to come.

Happy New Year!

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-70968157659607998932008-12-15T16:12:00.000-08:002008-12-15T16:18:13.349-08:00flush down high prices! It's sale time again, folks, let's spin the wheel!

(imagine wheel-spinning sounds here)

Wow, sinks and toilets-- but, wait, what's this? No percentages off, or any of that ballyhoo?
Well, what the wheel says, we do, folks. Toilets starting at $8, bathroom sinks starting at $7, kitchen sinks starting at $5-- and wait, the wheel is trying to tell me something...
no, it can't be...what? Yes, wheel, I'll tell them.

Ahem. The wheel wants me to tell you that vintage sinks and antique tubs, clawfoot included will be 10% off their marked prices.

That will be all until the wheel summons me to speak again.

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-37688166734774715692008-12-12T12:14:00.000-08:002008-12-12T12:28:28.462-08:00Looking for that end of year tax write-off?Yes, that time of year is already upon us. I mean the end of the year. Another year has come and gone, and what do you have to show for it? Not personally, my friend, financially!

Have you made any tax-deductible donations to your favorite charity organizations?

Well, it's not too late. There is still a chance. And your donation doesn't necessarily need to be a monetary one. Yes, you can donate materials to us!

Did you remodel your kitchen recently? You can bring down the cabinets! Maybe you updated an appliance in the last year, and still have the working, but outdated one in the garage, bring it to us! Any item you bring down that we accept is worthy of a tax-deductible donation receipt. One you can use to claim when you file your taxes come this April.

Maybe you don't have any materials. That's okay, we can also give you one for any financial donation you'd care to make. We are working hard to keep materials out of the waste stream, and have managed to salvage over 7500 tons to date! We don't count on stopping there, but the work ahead won't be easy. We need your assistance to ensure that our tools are up to date, and that our vehicles are in working order to transport the materials and our precious employees.

And speaking of our employees, we need to make sure that we can offer them competitive pay and the training needed to ensure they can bring the highest quality and quantity of materials back to you in the shortest amount of time!

All of this takes major investments, and we know that you have a vested interest in this company, that is why you are here. We know that you share a similar commitment to our environment, and to the sustainability of our community as a whole. That's why you shop with us! So keep it up! Bring us your donations, Keep shopping in our warehouse, and make a tax-deductible contribution today!

Thank you so much for your continued support!

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-39331033245167545052008-12-09T21:51:00.000-08:002008-12-09T22:05:03.818-08:00Come Party with the NW EcoBuilding Guild!!!Come join members of the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild and celebrate the festive season on Thursday, December 18th from 6-10 pm. Arr, where ye be, I can't sees ya. Aye, ahoy there, consumer, ho!
I don't know how they do it with these eyepatches.
So, yes, Avast there! Set "sale" Get it?
I am announcing the weekend sale from the deck of our newest acquisition, the S.S. Incredible Savings! We christened it with a bottle of reclaimed champagne yesterday. A fine vintage, what was the name on the label, something fancy. Regal, it was, Aye. Ah yes, it's coming back to me. Cold Duck, vintage 2006.

So the sale, then. I mean that's why you're all really here, isn't it?

Remember a few weeks back? (walk with me, if you will) Remember, long ago, when we had a sale on all bathroom and kitchen accessories and fixtures? 50% off, methinks it was.
Well, we're doing it again. Why so soon, ye ask? Because we have exhausted all of the possible options, ye thinks? Nay, verily. Because it was so wildly successful. Because, you all seemed so pleased by it? Surely, because, somehow, through circumstances completely out of my hands, the sale was announced only two days before it began? Well, yeah.

So, tack the sails! Hoist the main! Swab the...mast! Avast ye... um... Ahoy!
We'll see ye this fair weekend, mates!

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-57472612789188579632008-12-04T11:44:00.000-08:002008-12-04T12:07:32.636-08:00tardiness is next to...Savings!

So I am late again. They say that blog waits for no man, but here, today, I aim to prove wrong.
So far, it seems that I am doing it. You're reading this, aren't you?

Um, the sale! Yes, how could I forget, this weekend, like all others as of late, boasts a sale!
A grand sale, sure to undo the trappings of all sales to precede it! Aha!

Wheee! This sale is so grand that your grandchildren, provided you carry on the verbal tradition of embellishment in storytelling, will be telling their children about it. Can you imagine?
Ah, let us dwell in that prospect for a moment

...

Aaaah, the future... Well, I guess that about wraps it up. Nothing else to report about the sale this week, I've said everything that I set out to say, I mentioned the sale, talked about blogging, uh, eluded to you great-grandchildren...hmm. something is missing.

Oh, yeah! Kitchen and bathroom cabinets are 20% off.

bye!

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-41203860556569004802008-11-24T10:32:00.000-08:002008-11-24T11:03:57.926-08:0015% !
This is the magic number. Fifteen comes from a long line of great numbers, and it itself is no exception. Let us take a look into the annals of history to find just what makes fifteen what it is today...

XV look how majestically these two numerals stand, heralding the call of great savings unto you, the conscious consumer.
And as far as the year 15, many important events transpired. Included is the birth of the great roman emperor, Vitellus, whose brief reign left a mighty impact on those he governed. Included in his term were two great acts:

Vitellus ended the practice of Centurions selling furloughs and exemptions of duty to their men, a change Tacitus describes as being adopted by 'all good emperors'.

He also expanded the offices of the Imperial Administration beyond the imperial pool of Freedmen allowing those of the Equites to take up positions in the Imperial Civil service.

So much else can be said about 15, a phe-'nominal' number. Ha! Did you see that? Did you see what I just did? Nominal! O, me.

*Ahem*

Sooo.... Ah, yes. 15. What I am getting to, here, is that next weekend, everything in the store (with a few minor exceptions) is 15% off the marked price! "Vitellus' Ghost!" you probably just exclaimed aloud. I know, I know, we've lost it, our mind, that is.
But we can't help it. We love you, conscious consumer. We know you go out of your way sometimes to make a difference on this planet, much like Vitellus would've wanted. You make a concerted effort to buy used goods, not because it is easy, or because it's really, really cool, and I could make a long, long list of all the influential celebrities who shop here. (I won't name names, but let's just say I recently put a check in the till, inscribed upon it, a name that rhymes with "Narack Nonama") But because there are so many things in this place that are just as good, if not better than what you would find in a new hardware environment. Try to go to Home Despot, and find beautiful, old-growth vertical grain fir 8 x 10s. Try to find some hardware to get your 1920's era home looking the way it did when its first little family moved in so long ago. Ha! It's futile! We win! And by we, I mean us! All of us gain so greatly by using what we already have, instead of buying new, telling manufacturers to go ahead and keep making more. In buying used goods, you not only save our resources by circumventing the supply chain, but think of all the precious, precious petroleum used to truck all that junk around the country.

Allow me to digress for a moment. I am not saying that transport of goods is completely unnecessary, that you should buy everything used, (have you ever tried second-hand milk?)
But that buying locally, and buying what goods have been produced in the past, you are keeping money in your community, to build your community, and lowering transport costs to be spent on better things (imagine your favorite community sustaining project receiving funding here.)

In short, keep it up, conscious consumer, and to show you how we love you so, Come in and save 15% on the stuff you already want.
Thank you!

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-78571542891500567552008-11-17T14:50:00.000-08:002008-11-17T15:09:26.806-08:00Weekend sale!!

OMG!! (trumpet fanfare) I hereby decree that Mondays from here forward will be used for official purposes only, to announce and outline an upcoming weekend sale! 'But, it's Thursday,' you ask? Well, Monday was kinda busy, so it's Thursday this time, okay? Anyway, where was I? Oh, yes, a sale! This weekend, I am pleased to announce that all antique lighting is 10% off the tagged price! You could consider that as a potential savings of up to $85 on any one item! As well as the antique lighting flying out the door, you can expect to see doors and windows following suit, as they will be 15% off!

'Gadzooks!' you might be saying to yourself, or 'Zounds!' if you deem thineself particularly Elizabethan in nature.

Whatever it is, paint yourself pleased, because weekly sales are a new institution around these parts, at the very least, through the duration of the autumn into winter into early springtime, when the birds are in bloom and the flowers are buzzing, and we don't need sales and funny quips to get us in a good mood, because the sun is out and mischief is afoot.

Right?

We'll see you this weekend.

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33656427.post-39352456383855618092008-11-03T14:01:00.000-08:002008-11-03T14:34:01.447-08:00baby's first blogHI! I am Andy, Olympia Salvage's new Store Manager, and I aim to blog. As of late, this blog is seldom updated. Let's see if I can do any better.
Our store has recently undergone a few changes, including new staff, new pricing, major reorganization projects, and so much more! Come in and see all that we have recently done to make your trip here as efficient and enjoyable as possible!
We just got a shipment of solid douglas fir slabs from a locally felled tree, and they are as popular as they are beautiful. They are each sixteen feet long, between fourteen and thirty inches wide, and right around two and three-quarter inches thick. Most people have purchased them with countertops in mind, but we can see them making phenomenal benches, siding, wall paneling, and many other incredible applications. We have just over twenty pieces in stock, but they are going fast. Come in and see them before they are all grabbed up.
Also new in the store, for all you urban living-types, a black bathroom set!
A deep, 5' fiberglass tub, black toilet, and black pedestal sink make up this trio. Ultra-modern and ultra-chic! Complete with brass hardware and accents, this set will liven up any otherwise dull bathroom.
Price is $350 for all three pieces.
And the excitement doesn't end there. We have lots of new wood and vinyl thermopane windows, a clawfoot tub, an incredible shipment of plumbing, electrical and yard-related hardware (the entire inventory of a second-hand store in Grays Harbor county) and dimensional lumber, trim, and as always lots of cabinets!
Remember, we get new stuff each and every day, and we never know exactly what we'll get, so keep checking back, both here, on our blog, and in the store!
See you there...

andyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06795398328991372919noreply@blogger.com0
