many, many thanks to sarah godfrey at the washington city paper for the SURPRISE of a LIFETIME; while waiting for my coffee at open city this morning, i flipped open the "state of the arts" section and landed on the above picture of a suspiciously familiar haircut. the city paper was kind enough to forecast my DREAM CALENDAR of fall events, including this weekend's DC big flea (ummm, yes) and bruce springsteen at the kennedy center honors in december (EVEN MORE YES). their suggestions were SPOT ON and i couldn't have picked a better lineup myself - though of course i'd throw in tomorrow night's roofwalkers show at the writer's center and next friday's rattler + new rock church of fire debacle at rnr hotel.
again, mega-thank you to sarah godfrey and the washington city paper for repping the mag! and OH HEY - issue 5 will be LIVE and ON FIRE this monday, september 21!

our hearts were oh-so-heavy-heavy last week when the panda mag team said goodbye to kelley mcnutt and chloe maratta, our issue 5 interns. we quite literally don't have words to describe how amazing these two are; from day 1 they were PANDA MAG FAM and we're just so lucky to have gotten to spend the summer with them. oh, and it helped that they were really pretty and smart and had awesome clothes and that they were totally great at EMAILING and MAKING PHONE CALLS and BLOGGING and DOG-TAMING and BEER RUNNING and all the other duties that you'd imagine (and can't imagine) go on behind the scenes at panda head mag.
kelley and chlo, we already miss you guys times a million hundred thousand and wish you nothing but RAD TIMES in the world of COLLEGE. that said, this leaves room at headquarters (aka my dining room table) for one (or two!) intern(s) of amazingness for the next 3 months while we get issue 6 together. qualifications include the aforementioned tasks, being 18+, and having a blue ribbon, award-winning attitude. get in touch at pandaheadmagazine@gmail.com.

DC Mini Gallery Needs You!

Last week Kelley and I were at the DC Mini Gallery for the first time and the police showed up before the 2nd band even finished playing-- nobody was arrested but it means the end of shows there for an indefinite amount of time. It was this article that mentioned that a space like DC Mini is more of a Baltimore, Philadelphia, or New York thing and less of a DC thing. It's crucial that an effort like this in our city isn't stomped out before it begins. The gallery is now turning to the community for help-- and you should!
