John Beagle is my son and I am proud of him.

He scored a near perfect in math on the ACT test. He is a cook at the Red Onion Restaurant, working under the Chef who came from the Maisonette, a five star restaurant.

Johnny as we all call him, played Monroe HS soccer for four years and was top scorer in his division. He has recently taken up golf and expects to beat me this summer. I said no way.

Johnny will go to the Ohio State University this fall. He has been accepted into the Honors program where he will figure out what kind of engineering student he wants to be.

The video is from a speech he gave at the Middletown Community Foundation Awards Banquet in May of 2008. Johnny has been a active member of the MCF for 3 years.

Sunshine Laws and Email in the US

Regarding Public Emails and the Sunshine Laws also knows as the Open Meetings/Open Records Law.

"There is a large misconception by non technical people that if they have a backup system for their e-mail server they are in compliance. This could not be more wrong." JVC

Have the email floodgates just opened now that people are asking for electronic documents including email?

When people ask for public emails they are well within their rights. But many public officials need Sunshine Law Training.

In one case, a city mayor had sent out an email to all council members asking members to agree to a small city related finacial matter.

A public governmental body cannot simply make those kinds of decisions by responding to information emails from the mayor. This kind of a decision requires a vote to be taken in an open meeting.

In another case, parents opposing a school levy requested email from school district administration and pro-levy supporters. These parents were well within their rights to ask for the email that the school district was not willing to provide.

This may be a wakeup call for all public entities in Ohio and other states from Florida to Hawaii, that have enacted similar sunshine laws.

E-Mail archival regulations are a relatively new thing, and compliance seems to be slow. Nevertheless the law is in effect and government agencies and schools in many states are required to comply.

This bible verse holds special meaning to me because I only know that my birth name is John (no last name, I was adopted by Don and Sue Beagle) and I was born on 3-16. John 3-16.

Making Friends on The Voice of Monroe

I said, "These things are taking up too much room in Josh Van Cleave's computer shop."

So I donated 10 to the schools which they have received and 10 to the city (5 for police and 5 for fire), which council has to approve before they can take delivery.

But that still leaves me with a bunch of these left.So I got to thinking. How bout I donate them to every Monroe business, church, student or organization until they are gone. All you have to do is to register on The Voice and request via the printer giveaway link.

So that's just what I did.

Top Beagle Uno

It was the first time in the history of the show that a Beagle won "Best in Show" at the 132nd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

The show was at the Madison Square Garden, Tuesday night, February 12, 2008. Uno the beagle is a 15-inch tall champion who beat six highly ranked, highly coifed pooches like a standard and toy poodle, a Sealyham terrier, an akita, a weimaraner and an Australian shepherd.

``Everything he does is correct,'' said J. Donald Jones, the 75-year-old judge who bestowed the top prize for purebreds on the beagle. ``This is a great dog.''

This kind of make me proud, being a Beagle and all.

On July 18, 1825 work began on the Miami Canal in Middletown. The Miami and Erie Canal was a canal that connected the Ohio River in Cincinnati, Ohio with Lake Erie in Toledo, Ohio.

This photo is part of a tribute to in the canal and its influence on the past successes of Middletown, Ohio.

2007 has been a rebuilding year for Middletown city and schools. With a new mayor, new city manager and new members on city council and Middletown School Boards, lets look to 2008 to be a successful year in the city' history.

Thoughts on Dan Fogelberg, who died yesterday

When I moved from Illinois to Ohio, my new friend, Thom Johnson, talked me into buying Dan Fogelberg's second album, Captured Angel. It was 1975, I was 17 years old, in a new high school, and I just made two new friends, Thom and Dan.

The first Fogelberg albums I bought were Home Free and Captured Angel, then Souvenirs, and finally, Netherlands. His later works were fine, its just that his first 4 albums were the ones I loved the most.

His first album cover featured a self portrait. It wasn't an egotistical portrait, he looked like an average 17 year old kid in the 70s, with long hair, just like me in 75. He also drew the Captured Angel on his third album.

Dan was sentimental. His music reflected his sentimentality. Dan's second album, Souvenirs, played our sentimental hearts.

His song, Illinois, was one I could relate to cause I grew up in Illinois, and was away from home. "And I need a breath of that Sweet country air, Illinois-I'm your boy."

The song, Netherlands, has new meaning to me today. "One road was simple, acceptance of life, the other road offered sweet peace."

Sweet peace Dan. Your vision became your release.

Here I am at the October 28, 2007 game, Steelers vs Bengals. My mission was to keep #38, Fullback Carey Davis drinking Gatorade Electrolyte. In the meantime, I did get to see the game from the coaches perspective.

It was great being with the team this year with their new coach, Mike Tomlin. However, Bill Cowher was more intense and in your face. Also, one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, Kenny Anderson was there as Pittsburgh's new assistant coach.

Thanks to Head Trainer John Norwig for needing and additional trainer on the field in Cincinnati. In the 8 games that I assisted, the Steelers have won every time. But don't give me all the credit.

What will become of the George M. Verity Statue?

He moved ARMCO to Middletown, Ohio which is now AK Steel (AKS), in 1901. The community of Middletown convinced George to locate his steel mill in Middletown from its current location near the Ohio River in Cincinnati.

His statue has been left behind after the company moved its headquarters from Middletown to West Chester, Ohio.

What will become of George's statue? Is it appropriate to move it to West Chester? Should it be moved to the city building or other city owned park or location?

I asked Alan McCoy, AK Steel spokesperson that very question. I will publish his answer when I hear back from Alan.

We had fun in the Sun at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Everyday temperatures reached over 100 degrees. Best yet, it was next to the Mandalay Bay Conference Center.

Thanks to my Tech Travel Agent, Jessica, we were able to relax and not worry about my trade show technology like plasma flat screens and full surround sound for our multimedia demonstration. Everything arrived when it was supposed to, it worked and we even had a stand by tech in the event of a problem.

We had fun at the pool everyday.

Disc Golf

There is a new disc golf course with 24 'holes' at the Monroe Community park. Disc golf is also known as frisbee golf. The goal is similar to regular golf, take as few shots as possible. The frisbee has to get caught in this contraption to be considered 'in the hole.'

I live in the Bridle Creek community in Monroe, Ohio, a Drees Company Development. Someone, has stolen the "C". So the sign reads 'Bridle Reek.'

Very funny! ?

URG, no not really. Ever since I took this photo, the HOA (Homeowners Association) has been on my butt to not publish it. They say a photo like this will cause more vandalism in the community.

I said, leaving the sign this way is a constant reminder and a far greater urge to those who like to do funny things with signs.

After all, it is local news for Monroe, Ohio, a town of approximately 8000. I posted it on my website Main Street Monroe and people started talking about it on "The Voice."

They concur, so now all the letters are being stored in a my garage untl the new 'C' comes in. Anthing to help my HOA.
