The reflection in the mirror is rendered simply just in graphite contrasting the color of the seated body. I have made an effort to simplify with color and add more focus on drawing when it's neede.

Here is another painting that I did last night. I found that I was keeping my strokes simple and finishing my paintings earlier than the finish of the pose. I can easily ruin a painting by trying too hard to do the features on the face or too much color. I like the point which I stopped here.

This is from last Tuesday night. It's from a 25 minute pose.
Tomorrow is another night of figure painting, which I look forward to each week. I usually do about 12 - 20 paintings in the 3 hour session....always enough to post all week long. I will, often add color or accents to the background through the course of the week.

When I am painting the one minute poses as the session starts, I have different papers prepared that I grab as the quick poses change. Sometimes I do them all the same color and then other times I change colors as I did here. The other one minute poses are on pale grey, which I will show on another post.

This painting is from a 15 minute pose. I like the simplicity of this. Sometimes you have to know when to stop. I stopped painting before the pose ended because I knew that I had to stop right at this point.

-from last night's session out in the farmlands of Germantown. 6 of us painting + drawing in Mary's barn. We are silent when we paint. The soundtrack from "Amelie" was playing. It is a favorite of the model, Suzy. She makes copies for all of us. It was so transcendent in the quiet with the music and loud birds squawking outside in the trees, the breeze was clicking the leaves on trees and then some rain chimed in...it was an orchestra of natural harmony in the night.

This was the last pose that I painted this evening after doing a total of about 16 paintings from the live model poses. The summer session started at my friend Mary's barn in the middle of the farmland of Germantown. We are a small group and I look forward to getting together each week in the summer. At the end of the summer we have a beautiful, bountiful dinner together to celebrate the end of the season. This is the third summer we are doing this. We are so grateful to Mary for holding the sessions at her barn because the regular sessions at the Hudson Opera House are not in session during the summer.

Art Patrons come for a visit

Meet two of my collectors who came all the way from Maryland to meet me last Sunday: Pat + Doreen. They also purchased quite a few of my nudes for which they had been in search of and that is how they found me- on the internet awhile ago, in their search. A couple of weeks ago when I published my recent postcard for the landscape show that I am in with other DP members (Jamie Grossman, Jan Blencowe + Takeyce Walter), Pat wanted to come to see that and have a studio tour at the same time of his visit. I was up for that and where I live has so much to offer people from out of the area to tootle around and see in this Hudson River Valley. Then we went out to a wonderful lunch and had much to talk about. Pat is an engineer who works with NASA scientists on projects related to weather. A part of his work he makes creative power point presentations and always includes Artwork in his presentations to create a visual memory for the scientists who he is presenting to- NO! not nudes! He has presented some very fun and creative ideas for me to collaborate on with him where Art + Science meet. I was so amped up from our meeting filled to the brim with ideas. I am going to start off working on a logo image for him that is from satelite imagery.

A side note:
You never know who you are going to meet and what it can lead to in the uncharted new landscape of Art on the internet.....I for one, have met quite a few interesting people. Some online through words, some on phone and some in person. All have been adventures that have filled my life in unexpected ways and I have some very colorful stories to tell and some that I won't tell.... ;)

At paperscissorsOranges, there is always a "castle" for the kids to paint. The other day when I snapped this picture, there was a princess painting the castle. The castle was made by me and it's really supposed to be a fancy barn. Through the years at PSO, there have been many architectural structures, contemporary sculptures and undefinable constructions that have taken on layers and layers of paint. I have photographed many of them through time. In fact, on my other blog- www.gksuniverse.blogspot.com - you can see one that I reviewed last December.

Here is Papa + son standing side by side. I have picked many photos from my Susanna's collection which appeal to me and there are a lot. I like this portrait of the two standing in a corner space that seems to hold them suspended in time. It is as though the camera was a stun gun and froze them forever in time. I know Susa would like them to stay this age forever- both of them.
