so like last weekend we went to the waverly farmer's market and dangit, STRAWBERRIES ARE OUT OF SEASON and i was all walking around with the pie jones. so mrs. d was trying to placate me in a fashion not unlike a mother trying to persuade her infant to desist from crying.

she was all like... would you like blueberry pie?
would you like peach pie?
would you like cherry pie?

and i was all, hell yeaz, cherry me some PAH:

the unique thing about this particular piece of yum (pardon the blurry photography, i think we were all d.t. from lack of pie) was that this is i think the FIRST time my matrimonial virtuoso of the pielinary arts used a cookbook: but behold:

nothing but snaps for the tome entitled: "pie: 300 tried-and-true recipes for delicious homemade pie" by ken haedrich. this book helped as far as using the fresh fruit, and heck if it didn't turn out perfect.

buy the book. bake a pie.

o m for king gawd on easter sunday, my mother-in-law made 2 pies, including a hardcore coconut cream pie. damn, i've had slices of maybe a diner coconut cream pie or maybe even mrs. paul's, but this was the freaking beez kneez of coconut cream pies.

i can honestly say this is one of the best pies i have ever nommed. i don't have any info currently as to the recipe used, but i may have to acquire said info.

i like pie soda

if a body were so inclined to do such a thing as i might, one might go to target and buy the sooper dooper "dessert pack" of pie-flavored sodas. for reals.

these sodas are by the jones soda company, who obviously are smart folks if they are so inclined as to make pie soda.

according to the packaging they are only available at target. which proves that target is cool and pwns.

these sodas (sodae?) are also made with cane sugar so you don't get that schnasty corn sugar syrup mouth.

for the benefit of my adoring public i did an official tasting so you could be elucidated per said imbibables.

lemon meringue pie soda: very pleasant lemon flavor, with some 'cream soda' flavor added i suppose to give it the meringue vibe. honestly it didn't taste so much like a slice of pie as an interesting lemon concoction. but it was good.

apple pie soda: opened with a very cinnamony nose, but sadly did not kick in with the baked apple flavor. it was kind of weak on the apple. there was a hint of crust flavor though ~ interesting concept; not so psyched about the execution.

cherry pie soda: now THIS tasted like PAH. mmm doggie, this delivered on all counts ~ the cherry flavor was just that kind of pie cherry zing, topped off with a graham cracker crust back end that really captured the pie essence. heck if they shouldn't make this year-round if this is intended only a novelty drink. she's my cherry pie, i'll warrant that.

blueberry pie soda: despite cleansing ye olde palette after the cherry pie soda, it was hard to follow it up with something equally as good; this soda had a pretty good blueberry flavor but the crust just wasn't there so much. no bad, but not great.

summation: cherry pie soda roxored my world. lemon meringue pie soda was probably the next best. after that, i'd say apple pie soda and blueberry pie soda are okay. but heck, it's pie soda!

ok perhaps in my other non-pie blog i said i was a bit disappointed with honfest coz the local beers were blocked out by anhiney-bush beers. this may have been an unpopular decision, but i stand by it.

but, i am happy to say i visited hampdenfest this weekend and was entirely pleased by not only lots of local beers (read: brewer's art resurrection ale), but the presence of DANGEROUSLY DELICIOUS PIES! boo-ya or wotever.

not quite sure why i have not pieblogged about d.d. pies yet, lest you think i have not yet sampled of their wares. i done do'ed that already, but let me introduce you to my fave rave: lemon chess pie. go get some! mmm...

my compadres seemed to dig on the cherry pie ~ my sweet tooth honny thought the cherry was too tart ~ although i agree it was tart, i thought it was good tart.

so in conclusion, if you have the opportunity and have not yet, please go to dangerously delicious pies. they are a welcome addition to any festive occasion, or even unfestive occasion. get you some.

...fresh peaches peach pie

we done have peach pie before, but this time round the missus got some fresh peaches from the farmer's market! hoo doggies! no cans to open this time.

i would be remiss to not mention that this pie included home-made vanilla extract AND home-made vanilla SUGAR...

mmm, butter...

mmm, more sugar...

after baking, it was oddly enough not so sweltering jungle humid outside that we couldn't allow it to cool amidst the hibisci and hula girls.

a little home-made whipped cream, and you gotcherself some pah! i think the fresh peaches made it a little less cohesive (i.e. the pieces were less "slicey-lookin") but dang once you tasted it, no worries at all. i like da peach pie, mr. market farmer.

so the missus has treated me to more than one strawberry rhubarb pie, but i think she outdid herself this time. foist of all, we went to the farmer's market on saturday and got strawberries and rhubarb straight from the farm...

so my sweetie pah (mrs $$$) made me a peach pah. mmm. she jazzed it up with some almond flavouring which, although unexpected, worked great with the peach flavs.

peaches come from a can, they were put there by a man who works in the factory in pennsylvania. grown at brown's orchard, actually. prior to us buying the peaches there, i was not aware that peaches would be/were grown north of the mason-dixon line. well pull my pants down and call me a hounddog, they prolly give joejah a run for their $$$.

i give this peach pie an A+++. if you get a chance, go to browns and buy a can of peaches. however, you cannot marry mrs. dollar and have her bake you pies, she's already taken.

i was so taken by her blatant mention of liking pie in the author bio that i emailed her and asked if i could include the offending remark in my pie blog. of course she said yes being a true pie appreciator.

i highly recommend that you either got to atomic books or amazon any buy the lulu eightball book. and enjoy it with some pie.

This auction is for 2 original Tim Pie Eaters Club buttons/pinback. They are both 7/8" in diameter. One is in very good condition with the original paper pin backing that reads The Whitehead and Hoag Co., Newark, NJ. The other has some cracking in the celluloid covering and no paper backing.

Tim was the original creation of Baltimore native and advertiser Kay Kamen. Kamen marketed Tim as a brand for hire, outsourced to represent the All-American boy. Tim, along with his sidekick dog, Pup, boosted local store revenue whenever sellers carried Tim code books and club patches. "

well this one is kinda cheatin' coz it's not a ho-made pie (not sayin'the wife is a ho'), but it was a damn fine slice. tha' tis to say, we purchased this fine pie from the fine folks at brown's in pennsyltucky. they have all sorts of pie offerings; if you haven't yet, drive there and buy a nice pie.

i'm glad this lemon merignue made the trip okay from loganville to home. it was FAHN, all lemony gooey and the meringue was properly foam-like and sugary.

it made me dance the lemon merengue.

lil mrs dolla has been making her own vanilla extract with vanilla beans and vodka, and i said HELL WOMAN MAKE A NILLER PAH!!!1 she, being a wise soul, found a recipe for AMISH vanilla pie. it is wonderful.

not only was the pie a wonderful gooey vanilla experience, much like pecan pie sans pecans (ergo pure sugary GOO), she made real whipped cream with tons of vanilla.

we got to make this for our next vanilla ice party.
