So this year has been amazing...freshman year wasnt quite what i expected it to be but it was still an amazing experience! the friendships that i have made will seriously last forever and i cant wait for the next three years...okay before i get all speechy lol i have a video that i want to share with everyone who has made this year great!!

This year has been amazing and i want to thank everyone for helping me along!!!i hope you enjoyed the flick and the pictures and ill see you in three months!!!!!!! I miss you all already!

By the way..if you werent in the pictures its not cuz ur not my friend its just that i didnt have a picture of you :)

So my friend Cat told me about this amazing opportunity one friday night and i wanted to share it with you....if you are interested in doing this there will be a table set up this week around lunch and dinner time so you can sign up to be apart of this amazing opportunity to be a cosmopolitan :)....heres what its about::

H2O Project: Impacting the global water crisis
According to the World Health Organization, every 8 seconds a child dies from water-related illness and 1.2 billion people around the world lack access to clean water.
The H2O Project calls on individuals to help address these concerns by making water their only beverage for two weeks, then donating the money they would have spent on coffee, soda, sports drinks, and other beverages to organizations that drill clean water wells in developing countries.

Members of the campus community who would like to take part in this effort can stop by the H2O Challenge table in the cafeteria between Monday, April 2, and Thursday, April 5. Donations can be returned to the same place between Monday, April 16, and Thursday, April 19. All funds raised will go directly to well-drilling organizations such as Lifewater International, Living Water International, Water for People, and World Vision.

I got that from the school website and i just think that it is a great opportunity to help give to people who need it...can you imagine, just a dollar would give a person water for a year..thats less than we spend on one bottle of water!!!!!!!!!!
Even if you cant give two weeks for this opportunity find someone who is wearing a blue H2O project wristband and give them a couple bucks and tell them it is for the H2O project, or stop by the table!

Spring Break : Breaking with another culture

So this year for spring break i decided to go on a trip with CSF. We didn't go to Mexico again--even tho that was a blast! We went to an Indian Reservation in Minnesota--where David Lasley's family lives. That week was seriously an amazing week!!! Comming back i really see how much i learned and how much i grew from that experience. its weird once you meet and interact with another culture to see how the boundries between you break down. The kids at our afterschool program became like a family for me!
Now i should probably explain why we went to minnesota.
We went up there to put on an after school program for the kids up there. Now most of you are probably thinking...well whoopy an afterschool program--couldnt they get one anyways. No. the kids at the res really dont have anything to do after school that is why problems like drugs, alcoholism, and other addicting things are so popular at places like a reservation. So, we went up there to show them that there are other options...it wasnt anything like lecturing to them or anything boring like that...it was more about showing it through our actions and how we live our life. the Indian culture is very internal. They prefer to observe instead of talk a lot. It was pretty intersting to see that change from the american culture.
The after school activity that i did was basketball..it was so funny to see all the kids come up to you so cocky...i absolutly loved being able to play with them knowing that if they made fun of you it was because they thought you were cool...i even walked away with a few crushes lol..but the entire experience i had up there was just amazing i couldnt believe how far encouragment could really go! it made me so happy to see how the work we were doing was effecting them. The second day we were there i saw how the encouragement we gave to them the first day during basketball was spread like wildfire. it was encouraging to me to be able to see that happen. here are some pictures from the trip..

Mexico Missions Trip---a bit delayed :)

I know this happened during winter break but I wanted to talk about my trip to Mexico with CSF. We went down the Juarez Mexico with about 25 or so people in two vans...that was pretty much amazing! I got to know so many of the upper class men on a very intimate level--we all slept on each other, smelled together, and didn't shower together. it was a very interesting week!
Here are some pictures of what went on during the drive...

Once we got to Juarez it was a whole different experience. We went down to build a house with Casas por Christo. While we were down in Mexico we stayed at a local church and didn't shower. we did have a few guys brave the cold water though. While we were building the house on the second day we were there it started to snow! so for the rest of the day we went to the market. that was a very interesting experience too because everyone was urging us to come look at their stuff..in some points it got me sort of stressed out. i didn't like telling people no. :/
After the snow melted and we dried all of our clothes we went back to another day's work. My team consisted of Lindsey, Lauren, Hal, David, and Brian..here's a picture of the girls

my team had the job of getting the interior of the house done....so while everyone was hard at work on the outside we were putting up insulation and dry wall...and putting the electrical wires in. we had help from the amazing Marks, Mark Walker and Mark Turner!!

we were so excited on the last day when we were able to present the house to the family! This is the entire group in front of the house--our last day in Mexico..

while on the trip we went to a rest stop so we could release some "extra baggage" lol...and we found that the girls bathroom was closed so all of the girls were forced to use the men's bathroom..we thought it was so amazing that we took a picture, by the way..the guys bathroom was really dirty and there was no ceiling!

The trip to Mexico was an experience that i will never forget...it was my first "true" missions trip and i was able to learn so much from the people who went with...and i know its cliche but we ended the trip as a family. The most interesting part on the trip was wanting nothing more than a shower and warm water but also as we crossed the boarder I look back and saw myself slowly slip back to my "American" views...

Birthdays and flowers

TODAY is my little sister's birthday, she is turning 14. she has gotten so old! here is a picture of her....

she will be a freshman in high school next year and she is really excited about it! i went home this past weekend and gave her a present as well as had birthday dinner with her.

Going home i missed the McKendree game..but i have heard that we won! whoo HOO!
tomorrow night is senior night..which is going to be so much fun!

I have been super busy this semester with all of the homework, clubs, and work stuff. its been interesting to manage all of it but i get by. This monday I have a ton of stuff i have a small group meeting for CSF along with small group. Then i go to USAS which is United Students against Sweatshops. we talk about things that are going on in the community that we can help with--like walmart. it is a very interesting grou! after that i go dirctly to worship band practics for csf--which is so much fun. we practice and play around with music all night! its a great time! then i am finished for the night.

The snow we got last week is slowly melting away...:( im gunna miss it..even though it was annoying and cold. we had a snow ball fight last monday night we got like 15 people out at like 12:30 and had a huge snow ball fight. Stephani and i made a sign in the snow that said Hi UIS but unfortunatly the snow was coming down so hard that it was covered within 15 min. we all had a bunch of fun out there and it wasnt very cold yet either which was good. we all came in at about 1:30-2 soaking wet! it was awesome. For the next two days after that we didnt have school. which was awesome cuz that ment i didnt have to go to work--i work at the YMCA before and after school program.

Sweet revenge

So the new semester has begun and sweet revenge is in the air. Ever since the beginning of the school year my roommate and I have been tormented by a kid named Justin B. He tackles girls, facebook pokes us...he has even brought the facebook pokes into reality. Last semester Christie and I retaliated by spraying him with silly string...that didnt work as well as we planned--he was on the phone with his mom when we did it. So this year we decided to take it to the next level.
After getting a disturbing facebook comment from justin stating that a new war had begun Christie and I decided that we had had enough. We took a bunch of our post it notes--that had been neglected all year--and wrote two simple words on each....ITS ON!

While we were equipping our post it notes for war justin walked in!!! Luckily he wasnt very observant that day and we hid them quickly. About 10 min later christie and i quietly walked down the hall and started with the sticking. we covered his entire door with post it notes and when he opened the door and saw them he was impressed.
Our strength and creativity was finally announced to justin as we assured him that there was more battle to come. he still demands that he is winning this war..but i beg to differ...

So its been about a week and a half since school ended and man is it boring back home. im so used to just walking down the hall and seeing a bunch of my friends but that sadly is not the case anymore. i miss everyone at school so much!!! but i dont really miss doing the school work but it does get sort of dull...so i have been reading a lot and hanging out with a bunch of my frends from my high school. I hope everyone did great on their finals and with their final grades...i cant wait until next semester!

Christmas is just around the corner!!! i cant believe its in two days! i hope everyone has all of their Christmas shopping done and all of that stress is over...itook some pictures with a friend of mine this last week and we found this amazing santa clause hat that was complete with a beard! we even took some funny pictures with it...i love the Christmas season! its so wonderful!! although i dont think that we are going to have snow this Christmas which is a bummer...well time to finish my shopping...Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!

20 ways to help stress during finals

okay so finals are coming up in like two weeks...they seemed to just jump up on us! But to help with the stress of finals this post is here to help...it will only take a few min out of studying to read so your best bet is to read it when you are totally burnt out and feel like you can't go any further. i got these from a few different website...

20. Take it out on your microwave

19. Tape pictures of teachers you dislike and launch them from high places.

i hope that everyone's thanksgiving was wonderful! i did miss seeing everyone from school this week! it was weird not seeing everyone whenever i wanted.
heres a recap of how my week has gone at home:
ive been watching movies, doing homework, studying more than i ever have before, slept, hung out with friends, and been absolutly bored out of my mind. Sometimes i forget that im home and want to just walk to the hall to justin and evan's room to see whats going on there..but then i am disapointed when i realize im still in Sycamore. Dont get me wrong i love coming back here and seeing all my friends from home but man...its so boring when im at home and there is nothing to do..facebook and myspace take over more of my life now than i would like.

for thanksgiving my family went up to wisconsin to my uncles house. we had great food there that my grandma and aunts made. then we watched the movie just my luck with all of my cousins. later that day we went up to my grandma hazle's house. we ended up staying up there until friday night. it was pretty fun...but i was glad to get home...

so how was everyone else's thanksgiving what did you all do??

man this weekend was fantastic...everyone stayed here because we have thanksgiving break comming up in 5 days! thrusday night there was a game night that Howard and the Stars club hosted. it was so much fun! we played games like bingo and this really fun game that howard came up with...it was a mix between telephone and acting out a word...we also played pictionary..that was pretty fun too..
Friday was CSF--Christian Student Fellowship--it was so much fun and the best part is i get to go on a missions trip to Mexico over Christmas break! im so excited!!! after Katie, Christie, and I got back a bunch of us went down to the one south lounge and played mafia for like the first time in FOREVER! it was a ton of fun! then we--me christie, sarah, katie, luke, monti, evan, tiffany, justin, zach, jon, wally, jenny, laurie(if i forgot someone im sorry:/) all got our pillows and blankets and watched zoolander until about 2 in the morning...things started to die down for a bit until a huge pillow fight started! it was so much fun! Zach had the hardest pillow and towards the end him and Justin were fighting and Zach did this amazing like matrix move and stole justin's body pillow away from him. it was amazing...we all went to bed around 3 and some even slept in the lounge...
Saturday was pretty dull in the morning but Christie and i went over to Erin's townhouse at around 3 to help make fossils for a second grade project she was doing later on that week..so we made fossils and brownies..it took around 20 min to finish them all..then we all decided to watch the fantastic movie elizabethtown...with kirstin dunst and orlando bloom...it was an amazing film and made all of us want to go on a road trip that was planned out for us! :) we ordered pizza and had a "girls afternoon" it was so sweet to be able to get to know some of the upper classmen!! they were all very nice! and the best part is most of them are going on the mexico trip with me so i will get to know them even better!!! yay!!!the rest of that night was pretty layed back...
Sunday Christie and i went to church and drove nico went with us...afterwards the Magruders had a bunch of us over to make pizza...we got to choose our own toppings and everything...it was so nice, after the pizza was finished we went to watch football! and my packers won!! whoo hOO!! i was so happy!!..then we made our way home...i finished up some homework and headed off to bed...i had to wake up at 6 the next day to head to work..:/..
this weekend was a blast tho..and hopefully i will get some pictures up soon! :)

PUMPKINS AND HALLOWEEN!

the begining of the weekend here was pretty boring..a lot of people went home along with my roomie so i was pretty sad..but i got a lot of my homework and everything done so that was good. Saturday afternoon i had soccer tournie and my team got all the way to the championships and we WON! it was awesome! i loved it..after the long day of soccer me and Sarah Q. went to my hometown for the Pumpkin fest! its this big event in my town with a parade and carnival and tons of pumpkin decorated around the court house. its so much fun. so when we got to my town we went to see fireworks at around 7:30 and then we met up with some of my friends and hung out until around 12. then we went to my roomate Christie's house...she lives in the same town as me..we stayed up for a bit then decided to go to bed. in the morning we went to the deli we used to have lunch at with some of my high school friends and after that we went into town and walked around. it was so much fun to see people and see all the pumpkins. my friend bridget even won the pie eating contest against two older men..shes like 100 pounds and 5'2! along with that some of my friends won prizes for best carved pumpkin and other things like that..i drove back that night after the parade and hung out for a bit, after classes on monday a bunch of us decided to go to the haunted trail at 10. it was great! and scary! tonight im not sure what we are going to do but im sure its going to be fun! here are some pictures of the weekends events::

delayed homecoming pics

i ment to post earlier but between midterms and studying i got pretty busy..ill post on midterms when i am finished with them..i still have one more in spanish this thursday! but for now..homecoming was a blast! i loved every min. of it...well besides the dj who only played rap and disco music..it was still fun tho. afterwards we all (the group) went to steak and shake to chat and wind down...it was a blast! the dance was only the begining too..with the bonfire a couple days earlier and the parade, tailgate, and game on sat. the weekend had just begun when we finished up friday after the dance. the parade was a blast..i got to ride on a vintage fire truck for csf--christian student fellowship--and that was so much fun we also got first place for decorating it even tho blue crew i admit did an amazing job of decorading dpratt's branco! there was also a ton of candy thrown out..which was nice! we headed over to the tailgate party after the game and got free food and drinks while a dj played some music...we all just socialized towards the end a bunch of us decided to play some 4 on 4 soccer! that was a blast..then it was game time..and of course i painted up..well sorta!:) monti and i used some fabric paint and put a star on my face! we of course one the soccer game 3 to 0 and the night concluded on a good note with a peter pan movie! sunday was pretty mello. Christie my boyfriend and i went to church and afterwards we went with christie's parents to lunch. where i unfortunatly watched the beatdown of the packers :(..the weekend concluded with finishing up some homework and studying..it was a fullfilling weekend.

Homecoming '06

These are pictures from decorating our lounge for homecoming! they are pretty sweet. we had the 70's and yes those boys are wearing girl pants..sean is wearing mine and justin is wearing katie's...lol we thought we did an awesome job in decorating but one south beat us unfortunatly...we did get runner up tho...just wait till next time...twosouth will win! lol..in the mean time we have amusing pictures of boys and girls dancing...with more to come of the other events that are still going on homecoming week!!!

spanish and shopping

wow! i havent posted in awhile. i just been soo busy with essays and homework. hmm where to start, this last weekend i had my boyfriend and one of my best friends, jordan, come down to see me! it was great! they got to meet all of my new friends down here and we got to go shopping at the mall, jordan and i bought tons of cute clothes while andy and my brother jon chilled on the benches--typical boys! :) but it was a really fun weekend!

I have been up to so much stuff! I had an essay due monday in honors composition and one due wednesday in Who Am I? I also had a midterm in Calculus, which was really hard! and an exam in spanish!! i also had a ton of meetings...especially yesterday! i am in the decorating group for twosouth! we are decorating the lounge for homecomming! it is going to look so sweet! we have the 70's. we all came up with a ton of great ideas! its going to be so awesome we even have a disco ball! we might even do a live action thing when they are being judged which would be really funny!

So in a couple of posts, it might even be next post, i am going to be putting up a video of what my life at UIS is! i get to start it this weekend. and hopefully i will get a ton of mafia shots!--you will have to wait to see what that means haha. i am so excited to make a movie about this school and what we do! haha...its going to be great fun! and hopefully i can keep the camera until the homecoming dance and all the events of homecoming! that would be fun! alrighty well time to get back to work on this Spanish homework!!! Adios!

A day to remember

It's been 5 years since the two towers fell and the memory of that day is still vivid in my mind. My teachers kept saying this will be the stuff your kids read about growing up. The more I have thought about it and learned about it the more I realize how true that really is. It is this age's Pearl Harbor. Something so vividly sketched into your mind that you cannot help but remember. So where was I September 11, 2001?

School had only been going on for about a month. The smell of fresh school supplies still present in the hallways. Before I left for school that morning my sisters and I said goodbye to my dad on the phone as he left for the airport. He was going to Florida for an oral surgery test that he had to take to renew his license. He was meeting his brother down there the next day so they could take the tests together. But of course my dad had to be the first to get down there and scope out the place. So my sisters and I left for school on the bus. My older sister, Tiffany, was dropped off at the high school and my younger one at the elementary school. I got to my first hour class right on time. I was in social studies with my favorite teacher that year, Mr. Manibauk. I didn't know what was going on at first but we were told that a plane had hit the world trade center. It wasn't until the second one when a voice came over the speakers telling us that another plane hit the other tower and they think it might be terriorists. The teachers were then told to go back to the regular school day. Luckily our teachers decided to let us watch. They opened up the connecting wall and the whole team piled into Mr. M's and Mrs. Farnum's--the English teacher--class all staring at the television. I sat with my head on my arms with my eyes glued to the television screen. I couldn't imagine who would or could do something to us like this and on our land. I just kept thinking how. As the second one hit and the towers fell the tears came pouring down. Our teachers then turned off the tv and we discussed what was going on. They told us things they had found out my looking on the internet. It was when one of my teachers was talking that I remembered my dad.
My tears then poured out. I just walked out of the room and to the guidance office. I told her that my dad was on a flight today and asked if any plane from Chicago was taken and crashed. She told me that as far as she knew they hadn't. This made me feel a bit better. I called my house after this but no one answered. I then called my older sisters cell phone and left a message.
I walked back to the classroom and sat back down without saying a word to anyone. The teachers had decided to stop letting us watch the tv. We had a "normal" school day or as normal as it could get. Our teachers kept telling us throughout the day that we should write down what happened that day and remember. Always remember. When I got home I was sure I would get more information. So I drove home on the school bus. When I got home my mom was watching the news and watching the updates. She told me dad made it okay. I called him quickly. He told me that everything was closed down there..Disney world..Orlando studios..everything. Then he told me that when they were on the flight no one told them anything of what was going on in the world. They were just delayed and had to sit in the plane. He didn't find out anything until he got out and saw the tvs in the airport. He couldn't believe it.
It still makes me sad when I reflect on the moments of that day. The most vivid memory that I have is what I felt like watching that tv screen in social studies class with my head on my arms and my teachers telling us to never forget what happened that horrible day at 9:11 in the morning.

R.I.P. Steve Irwin "Corcodile Hunter"

The Beloved Croc. Hunter

As many of you know Steve Irwin has passed away. Despite his choice in career as a popular croc. hunter, a croc did not kill him.

I had decided to go home for the long labor day weekend to visit with my boyfriend, Andy, and a couple of my good high school friends. Well, it came to be sunday night and my friend Joe told a couple of us that he was going to have a cookout at his new apartment at NIU. So Andy and I drove over there at around six. We played bags for a bit while the food was cooking and we just visited with old friends. It was really nice being able to talk and see everyone--even though i have only been gone for about 2 and 1/2 weeks..but i guess when you spend pretty much everyday with people they become your family and are hard to leave. So it was great to see all of them. The night began to wear down and since the heavy rain ended our entertaining games of bags we all decided to go inside and watch a movie. The movie choice was left to me--so obviously I picked a comedy and it ended up being Ace Ventura Pet Detective. As we were watching this hysterical movie Lindsey came down from upstairs and said with a somber tone. "Guys I have some bad news..." muting the movie and hanging on her last word we sat for what seemed like ages wondering what awful thing had happened. She finally composed herself and blurted out "Steve Irwin died in a marine accident!!!" The room hushed as the sad truth was taken in. I sat looking at Andy thinking "no more crocky! or lets go get some crocs, or anything that made steve a legend".

We all had our deep moment to compose ourselves..a few guys that were there laughed after Lindsey told us..but I think that was only to keep from crying. Then we turned the movie back on and pushed Steve to the back of our minds.

Sweaty, Sticky, Green! Just a few words describing the Jell-0 olympics that took place today at 3..if you were lucky enough you recieved an awesome shirt that Jordan designed!
After the jello fight--which by the way was awesome..but i was mad there wasnt much jello left over to throw at people--we all went on the slip and slide it was so much fun but i took a huge mouthful of baby oil and water at the bottom which was gross...but the whole experience was pretty awesome! even if the jello pan hit me right in the neck and i got jello all over my shirt when we were playing the feet passing game..hhaha...it was an awesome time anyways!

Later that night a bunch of us got together and decided to do a laser tag thing that the school had set up for us..that was a ton of fun!! afterwards we headed up to the lounge and had played like five games of mofia which is like the greatest game in the world..i stayed up till 1 in the morning playing when i finally was killed off and decided to head to sleep..it was a pretty exciting day if i do say so myself!

The first week of UIS was an experience Im am sure I will remember for a long time! It was exciting and scary and im sure a lot of us had so many feeling flown in the air. As a freshman it felt like i was taken out of everything I knew and I had to learn a whole knew way to live. Throughout the week I have met a ton of new people, some of them i feel like I have know for years. Its just great being able to meet people and become friends with people who--in high school--I probably wouldnt have approached, now I'm becommig great friends with them!

My roomate Christie is awesome! We get along so great...given we have known each other since second grade..its just great how it worked out. When we found out we were going to be rooming together we were pretty happy..it was awesome how we didnt even request each other but I guess we just have so many similarities that they put us together--which is great for us! A picture of her will be commin soon...and of a bunch of my friends...i just havent learned the cool way to do it yet! :)

Recently a group of my friends and I have been running through the fountain every day...we are up to six days in a row now and tonight will make it seven!!! there will also be pictures of this up! So yea...freshman year is going great so far the classes..though hard are exciting and I am really interested to experience the challenges they bring up...it will be an interesting year and hopefully haha you know a fun one!!
