Trumpets Summer Playshop is Back and Better than Ever

After a long school year of assignments, projects, and late nights of cramming, here’s something that will put a smile on every young person’s face: summer is just a few weeks away! And here’s something else to make those smiles even wider: Trumpets Playshop is once again opening its doors to young people of all ages to come and hone their skills and talents.

With 16 years of experience under its belt, Trumpets is a certified winner in the eyes of many parents and kids. Having produced talents such as Sam Concepcion and up-and-coming performer Tippy dos Santos, this is really no surprise.

Sam Concepcion, Little Big Star’s Big Division First Brightest Star discovered that he had a knack for singing and performing when he joined Trumpets Playshop at the age of nine. He ended up coming back every summer for five years, taking up different classes such as voice, acting, dancing and musical theater. Indeed, Sam’s performing prowess is evident in all his acting and singing stints. His most-remembered musical role to date is playing star basketball player Troy Bolton in Trumpets and STAGES’ production of High School Musical.

Of course, Trumpets is home to many new and fresh talents as well. In the case of Tippy dos Santos, an incoming sophomore at Reedley International School, joining Trumpets Playshop truly changed not just her life, but also her family’s. Having heard how good the workshops were from an Atenean friend, she decided to try it out for herself, signing up for Street Dance and Musical Theater classes.

This brought out a more confident side of Tippy that she had not previously known about. “I was really shy before,” she admits. “I loved singing, but I only performed in front of my family. But after my first Trumpets class, I found so many kids who had the same dreams.” Tippy’s mom agrees. “Tippy has always been the shy one. But being in a class in Trumpets with her peers all feeling the same thing, they have helped one another grow in confidence,” she shares.

This year, Trumpets Playshop invites everyone again, from kids to young adults, to come and experience an exciting and fun-filled summer of discovering talents and pursuing passions. Class offerings include Musical Theater for Kids, Teens and Adults, Acting, Street Dance, Modeling, Public Speaking/Hosting, Belly Dancing for Kids and Parents, Stage Make-up, and Photography. Two new classes, Acting for Film and TV, and Acting for Commercial Models, are also available.

Truly, there is nothing more fruitful and productive than spending the summer improving one’s craft. Trumpets aims to help kids do exactly that, and more, because not only do young people get to discover and pursue their passions in a fun, creative way, they also get to meet like-minded peers and be a solid support system for one another. This is the magic combination that Trumpets provides that makes a summer with them one that can never be forgotten.

Gear up for a great summer at Trumpets. Trumpets Playshop offers teenagers and adults alike two brand-new class offerings – Acting for Film and Acting for Commercial Models. Its extensive selection of classes also includes Street Dancing, Basic Photography, Musical Theater, Public Speaking/Hosting, Belly-Dancing, Stage Make-Up and Modeling. Classes are taught by some of the industry’s biggest names, such as The Manoeuvers and Patrick Uy. With so many different classes to choose from, there’s certainly something for everyone.

For 16 years, Trumpets Playshop has been around to train children, teenagers, and even young adults, to discover new talents and hone existing ones. As a result, many of its graduates have moved on to further pursue their passions, some even successfully breaking into the entertainment industry, such as Sam Concepcion and Christian Bautista.

Philippine Star – Check your thermometer, summer is definitely here. It’s time for summer, movies, the beach, malling and hanging out with the gang. For most kids, the question they ask each other is, “What are we doing for summer?”

Some have a ready answer. But most kids and parents don’t have a clue. That’s why we in Trumpets set up Playshop. The biggest performing arts workshop for the new generation.

I remember developing the business strategy for Playshop almost 20 years ago with Audie Gemora and Freddie Santos. We wanted to provide kids with a summer workshop that was fun, that’s why we called it PLAYshop and not WORKshop. We also wanted to give kids the best possible training and their parents comfort that their children would be in good hands. We then fused excellent instructions with Christian values. And while other performing arts schools just focused on one subject, we diversified ours.

Today, God has allowed Playshop to reach the top. We have over 2,000 students, while holding classes in various venues & provinces. Playshop has even gone international with classes in countries like Hong Kong. We also have a growing number of artists that have gone through Playshop like Christian Bautista, Sam Concepcion and this year’s winner of the World Championship of Performing Arts in Hollywood Los Angeles, Aria Clemente.

Summer is the most exciting time of the year. But statistics shows that summer is also a season where the highest rate of juvenile delinquency occurs. They say “the devil’s playground is an idle mind.” No wonder summer is when most kids are prone to meeting the wrong crowd, trying new things, engaging in new tricks, and passing through adolescent rites of passage. So if you ar a parent, and your goal this summer is to peel your kids away from boredom and into an activity that they can learn from, interact, have fun, and hopefully develop strong values. That’s Playshop.

We’ve got classes in children and advanced musical theatre, basic and advanced acting, and one-on-one voice lessons. This year, we are launching Star Power, aspecialized voice class with the award-winning group, The Company which includes stage performance techniques, mic techniques, vocal styling and image packaging. Playshop also caters to dance aficionados through our popular street dancing and jazz classes.

Trumpets Playshop -- the country’s biggest talent workshop hub, which consistently draws in over 3,000 students in summer alone, celebrates 15 years with loads of new workshops.

Children’s theater for toddlers, digital fashion photography, anime production, VJ hosting, baking, professional make up, stage direction, rehearsal techniques, voice workshops, and choreography for non-dancers add up to Playshop’s all-time favorite children’s musical theater, teens and adults’ musical theater, street dance, modeling, public speaking and hosting, master class, and theater production workshops.

“At 15, Playshop is still growing and opening up to exciting new things. New students and Playshop graduates are all invited to attend our first Playshop Expo, and a tribute show by the end of summer. We make Playshop accessible at the Podium, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, Alabang Town Center, and possibly two more venues in Makati City,” says Audie Gemora, one of the pioneering minds behind Playshop.

There have been countless performing artists and personalities who attended Playshop and Musicademy, Trumpets’ school for voice, instruments, stage performance, and languages. Asia’s Pop Idol Christian Bautista; tween heartthrob Sam Concepcion; Hollywood Olympics’ champions Aria Clemente and Reymond Sajor; The Playshop Kids; recording artists Bituin Escalante, Kyla, Cheska Ortega, Raki Vega, Joaqui Valdes and Gian Magdangal; news reporters Carlo Lorenzo and Nina Corpuz; thespians Maita Ponce and Red Concepcion; TV personalities Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Bettinna Carlos, Heart Evangelista, PJ Valerio and Say Alonzo; even cosmetic surgeon Manny Calayan finished at least one of the courses Playshop and Musicademy have been offering.

“The key to Playshop’s success all these years lies in a strict adherence to an excellent curriculum; competent and inspiring faculty; and a premium on values. The Playshop syllabus has an unwritten rule that more important than techniques and skills, are the core values students must learn to truly succeed. These values include love for God, discipline, friendship, and character,” says Playshop director Lani Mabilangan-Ligot.

“It is not enough that they are taught, students have to be able to implement what they learned,” adds Ligot.

Outstanding Playshop students are encouraged to join productions that Trumpets and STAGES, its sister company, have been producing. Some Playshoppers auditioned and were cast in the recent productions of Disney’s “High School Musical On Stage,” and Trumpets’ original musical “First Name.”

Trumpets expands its performing arts workshops to Podium, apart from the workshops in Shangri-La Plaza mall, this summer. Acting master class and personality development classes have been added to the hot list of Trumpets Playshop courses that will entice any kid, teen or young adult alike to stay in the Metro during the hot summer months.

Now on its 14th year as a summer training ground for exemplary talents, which have included Asian pop star Christian Bautista, Filipino teens’ favorite star Sam Concepcion, first “Philippine Idol” finalist Reymond Sajor, and the Playshop Kids, Trumpets Playhop rallies behind the theme, “Passing It On.”

“It’s been pure joy to pass on our years of experience in the performing arts to young learners summer after summer. Seeing Christian, Sam, Reymond, the Playshop Kids and the rest of our graduates making it big outside Trumpets is truly exhilarating for their respective teachers. It’s like it has become our ‘passion to pass it on.’ We challenge everyone who’s been part of Trumpets to pass on the torch in his/her own personal means and ways,” says workshop consultant Audie Gemora
