To learn all about what makes Ms. Jones tick, and what makes cashmere cardigans the bee's knees, read on! </div><br /><div></div><br /><div><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Tell us about your family, your pets, your occupation and where you live</span>.<br /><br />I live in Los Angeles, but spend a lot of time in San Francisco and New York. I am a personal shopper. I started out just shopping for friends in college and after graduation, started doing it full-time as more people asked me to be their <span style="font-size:130%;">personal shopper</span>. I’ve always been interested in fashion and this is a great way to continue to be in-the-know. I start out every woman’s wardrobe with some basic pieces and then add on from there. No matter what the budget, I truly believe that <span style="font-size:130%;">having the right basics is important</span>. One of my key winter basics is a cashmere cardigan which was my inspiration for the name of my blog. <em>{More on this soon!}</em><br /><br />I have a little dog named Katie and a great fiancé named David.<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">What was the inspiration for Cashmere Cardigan Boutique</span>? <em>{Told you it was coming soon!}</em><br /><br />The inspiration was really <span style="font-size:130%;">my love of fashion</span>. As a personal shopper, I advise people on clothes everyday. I tend not to only shop for people with lots of money, but also will take on clients on a budget. Therefore, I’ve seen what a difference small changes in your wardrobe make. If you are on a budget, look for classic pieces and then change your jewelry and accessories. If you can afford more, then there are definitely more options, but you have to choose correctly. My inspiration for the blog is to share with others the tips I’ve learned as a personal shopper and the fashion inspirations I have.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Do you think people are afraid to buy cashmere, and why</span>?<br /><br />I think people are afraid because the word makes them think “expensive.” If you are smart about it, <span style="font-size:130%;">you can buy cashmere at huge discounts</span>. Also, most cashmere sweaters are made to last and are not as trendy as other items so investing in them is a good idea. Timing your purchases is smart as well. The end of winter sales and the early Spring sales where they clear out the winter inventory are great times to stock up on cashmere.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">What are your top three favorite ways to wear a cardigan?</span><br /><br />I love wearing a long cardigan over <span style="font-size:130%;">skinny jeans and a tank top</span>. I’ll usually add a scarf and some accessories. The cardigan will usually be more colorful while the jeans and tank more neutral.<br /><br />My other favorite is a long cardigan <span style="font-size:130%;">over a short dress</span>. The cardigan should hit a little below the dress. I love pairing this look with flats or knee high boots.<br /><br />I love wearing a cashmere cardigan <span style="font-size:130%;">over my pajamas</span>. In the winter, when it’s cold, nothing beats a great cashmere cardigan to wear over thin pajamas. It looks great and stylish and still keeps you warm. </div><br /><div></div><br /><div><br /><br /></div><br /><p><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/fuschia-cardigan-752110.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 266px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/fuschia-cardigan-752092.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><em>{Sarah recommends a fuschia cardigan to keep your wardrobe bright and trendy. Pairing a bright cardigan with a simple white T-shirt or black tank can help keep things more neutral if that's what you prefer.} </em></p><br /><p><em></em></p><br /><p><em></p></em><br /><em><p><br /></em><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">If you were to design your dream cardigan, what would it look like?</span><br /><br />My dream cardigan would be<span style="font-size:130%;"> long and white</span>. The white would be a snow white and it would never get dirty. It would fit perfectly, especially at the arms (I’m petite and the length of the arms are always too long). It would <span style="font-size:130%;">flow out and hit at the perfect point</span> below my waist (not past my butt). When I button it, it would be tight, but not too tight that I can’t wear something underneath. Still, it would button and show my figure. There would be <span style="font-size:130%;">a small pink tulip at the corner</span> as my symbol. Finally, the cashmere would be the thin cashmere, the type that is easily bendable and very soft. It wouldn’t be too thick so I can throw it on in all seasons, even during the summer at night when it’s cold. <em>{Will those be to order? I hope so!}</em><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Are there any tricks to the perfect fit in a cardigan?</span><br /><br />As a petite woman, I’ve found many tricks to the perfect fit. First, <span style="font-size:130%;">scrunch up the sleeves</span>. That gives the illusion of the cardigan fitting more snugly, even if it does not. On cardigans that drape, you want to make sure you scrunch up those sleeves, otherwise, everything will look like it is draping and ill-fitting. Second, <span style="font-size:130%;">add a belt</span>. A thicker belt at the right place allows you to scrunch up looser fitting cardigans. Finally, <span style="font-size:130%;">wear something tight underneath</span> to see how well it buttons up and drapes. Don’t wear something bulky or you won’t know how it really fits.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">What are you reading right now</span>?<br /><br />I read more magazines than I do books. Right now, I’m reading – <em>Elle</em>, <em>InStyle</em>, <em>Oprah</em>, <em>Bazaar</em>, <em>WWD</em>. I also read tons of fashion blogs on a daily basis. <em>{Including ours, I hope!}<br /></em><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">What is your favorite indulgence?</span><br /><br />I’d have to say <span style="font-size:130%;">chocolate</span>. I love a piece of dark chocolate at night, after dinner, especially the Scharffen Berger ones. My other favorite is <span style="font-size:130%;">frozen yogurt</span>. I can’t get enough, especially during the summer. Finally, there are these <span style="font-size:130%;">Red Velvet cupcakes</span> from a place in Beverly Hills called Sprinkles. I love, love, love those!<br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">What inspires you</span>?<br /><br />Everyday <span style="font-size:130%;">regular people</span>. Sometimes I’ll sit in a café in NY or LA and just watch people go by. I can’t believe how differently people dress and how people choose to wear their clothes. It’s a daily inspiration since there are so many different ways to wear the same piece of clothing.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Where would you go on your dream vacation?</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Australia</span>. I would hit Sydney, then Melbourne, then Cairns. There are some wonderful <span style="font-size:130%;">boutiques in Melbourne</span> that I would love to check out in person. Sydney has the best blend of culture, food and sites. I’d just rest and relax and maybe do some snorkeling in Cairns. </p><br /><p></p><br /><p><br /><br /></p><br /><p><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/loose_open_cardigan-199x300-717123.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 199px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/loose_open_cardigan-199x300-717121.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><em>{Another recommendation from Sarah is a loose cardigan. It's not constricting, and you can easily throw it on over all types of clothes. Petite women be sure not to buy something that's too long.}<br /></em><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">What fashion trend do you hate right now?</span><br /><br />I am hating <span style="font-size:130%;">the fringed clothing trend</span>. When you wear dresses or skirts that are fringed, they tend to get caught on everything – your bracelets, your jackets and your purses. Plus, the fringes fly up and separate making your outfit look like there are holes or something missing.<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">What fashion trend do you love right now</span>?<br /><br />I’m loving the one-shoulder dresses. They are that perfect combination of sexy, slightly revealing, but still covering enough so that people want to see more.<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">What makes you feel special?</span><br /><br />A great dress, a new outfit, new shoes.<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">What is your favorite Shabby Apple dress</span>?<br /><br />I’m loving the <span style="font-size:130%;">Broadway <a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-381-broadway.aspx">fuschia dress</a></span>. I wear it to work to see my clients and they just love it too.<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">What would you do with $1,000 right now?</span><br /><br />I’d spend <span style="font-size:130%;">$100 on these shoes</span> I’ve been eyeing and then put the rest in my savings account. This is a tough year so it’s important to save. <em>{Next time I should specify that you have to spend it ALL! There is no recession in make-believe.}<br /></em><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">What is your favorite Web site?</span> (Besides ours and yours, of course!)<br /><br />There are so many, but I love <span style="font-size:130%;">stumbleupon</span>. I just stick in a word and it shows me so many wonderful sites that I’ve never noticed before.<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">If you could be any character from the Harry Potter books, who would it be?</span><br /><br />Oh, I love this question – I would be <span style="font-size:130%;">Hermione</span>. It may be a cliché, but I love how she is the smartest of the three AND a woman. The girl just has so much energy and confidence and I love how she always backed up her friends. I also loved her compassion which you see often in the book. </p><br /><p></p><br /><p></p><br /><p><br /><br /></p><br /><p><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/trendy_cardigan-283x300-740657.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 283px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/trendy_cardigan-283x300-740656.jpg" border="0" /></a><em><br />{Cardigans with non-traditional sleeves, like ruffled sleeves or kimono-style sleeves, can be more comfortable since your arms are less confined. And they are the perfect solution for petite women battling against sleeves that are too long.}</em><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;"></span></p><br /><p><span style="font-size:180%;">If you had to wear one outfit for two weeks straight, what would it be?</span><br /><br />Probably my <span style="font-size:130%;">skinny jeans, three inch black heels, a white t-shirt from Gap, and my heather grey cashmere cardigan</span>. Then, I would pair it with my gold hoop earrings and a few bangles. Since I have to wear it for two weeks straight, I would go with something more neutral and hope nobody notices!<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Who is your style icon?</span><br /><span style="font-size:180%;"><br /></span>Coco de chanel.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Describe yourself in one word</span>.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Curious.</span><br /></p><br /><p><span style="font-size:130%;"></span></p><br /><p>And there you have it, ladies and gentlemen! Don't you want to just run out and be friends with her right now? At least we can all be friends on the Internet. Something cute and summery and light that you can still wear while sitting on the ground without giving away the farm.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Ah, the dilemma.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Never fear, my picnicking posse! Here are some solutions.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Bermuda Traingle</span><br /><br /><br />Bermuda shorts or walking shorts are a great answer to the question: What will keep me cool, comfortable and covered up? Instead of a heavy denim, go with <span style="font-size:130%;">khaki or a fun seer sucker fabric</span>. Pair your shorts with a light-weight top and you'll look and feel cool until the cows come home.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/shorts-729077.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 374px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/shorts-729075.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />A not-too-revealing sundress, especially one with a longer skirt, is also a good option.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Top It Off</span><br /><br /><br />A hat or visor is a perfect accessory for your outdoor ensemble. It's a great way to add a little picnic pizzazz, and will also keep you safe from too much sun. Go with a wide brim for the <span style="font-size:130%;">maximum coverage and style</span>.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/visor-721883.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 314px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/visor-721881.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Avoid Accessories Overload</span><br /><br /><br />A casual picnic is not the place for your fancy jewelry. Besides the fact that it might get lost, it will also be sorely out of place you might wish that you <em>could</em> lose it. Instead of glittery baubles, stick with a simple watch and maybe a <span style="font-size:130%;">small pair of earrings or an understated necklace</span>. Anything more will be too much.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Take a Tote</span><br /><br /><br />A tote can fit everything you need-- a camera, cell phone, sunscreen and even a sweater for the cooler evening hours-- and gives you a chance to <span style="font-size:130%;">add both style <em>and</em> function</span>. (Oh, how I love efficiency!) Consider sticking with a darker color that doesn't show outside dirt so easily.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/tote-764960.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/tote-764958.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Canvassed</span><br /><br /><br />As is often the case, footwear can be the biggest challenge to your picnic duds. You won't be running a half marathon around the back door, so sneakers seem like overkill, but if you'll be playing frisbee or volleyball sandals don't quite cut it either. The answer lies somewhere in between. Go with <span style="font-size:130%;">a low canvas skimmer or another sporty slip-on</span>. It will be just right.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/sneaker-773075.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 399px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 256px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/sneaker-773073.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"><span style="font-size:130%;">And now, off you go</span>!</div><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Just save some lemonade for me</span>!<br /><br /><br /><br /><em><span style="font-size:85%;">{Like what you see? Shorts and visor from Nordstrom, tote from ebags and skimmers from Nordstrom. Loving style advice from me.}<br /></span></em><br /><br /></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3273394801291705844-3334679285327107013?l=www.shabbyapple.com%2Fblog'/></div>franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06516026856838148495noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3273394801291705844.post-56174273171883737312009-06-19T14:35:00.001-07:002009-06-19T14:53:06.220-07:00Who's Your (Customer Service) Mama?<span style="font-size:180%;">Happy Friday, Shabby Apple fans</span>! And welcome to another installment of our Seedlings feature. (Still super proud of that name, BTW.)<br /><br />Today I am delighted to introduce you to <span style="font-size:130%;">one Mary Braun</span>, the happy voice on the other end of the line when you call with questions or compliments about your Shabby Apple order. (Let's hope it's more of the latter.) I would love to have given you a picture of the face to go along with the voice, but Mary is a little preoccupied right now having a baby, so pictures will have to wait. In the meantime, here are some of Mary's thoughts on a few Shabby Apple favorites.<br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">One of the most interesting (and completely awkward) jobs I’ve had in my life</span> was working with a DNA company. I would call people up and ask them to share their stories of different DNA testing they had done, sometimes learning WAY more about a stranger than I ever thought possible over the phone (think serious Jerry Springer material).<br /><br />For nearly two years now, I’ve worked at Shabby Apple, handling almost all of your customer service inquiries. Although I have never had to personally pry for your information, I have had some good laughs about how much women divulge about their bodies to complete strangers through email, over the phone, and even face to face. I’ve talked with many of you about the havoc pregnancy wreaks on your bodies and the challenges that come from being exceptionally petite to extraordinarily tall. <span style="font-size:130%;">We’ve talked boobs, thighs, torsos, the mom pooch</span>, broad shoulders, legs, you name it. It’s all been up for discussion at some point here.<br /><br />I have often wondered if any of you have ever considered who I was and what gave me so much authority and expertise on fashion and why I am ever so willing to give advice so freely. I’m here to set the record straight once and for all:<br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">I’m actually a man</span>.<br /><br />(No, but seriously, would you die?!)<br /><br />I am 100% female—just ask my husband. (Yeesh! I can produce some serious lady drama!) I can completely relate to all your dress-finding concerns, because I have those concerns myself. I think I’ve been a sturdy size 12 since the 9th grade and, although I love my lean calves and sexy ankles, would not be opposed to getting some type of trade out for my flabby arms and doughy tummy. HOWEVER (and it’s a big however) that hasn’t exactly happened yet. My best kept secret is that I still wow the crowds because I have subscribed to the Shabby Apple ideology: <span style="font-size:130%;">All women can look awesome in a dress!<br /></span><br />Apart from the fact that I am about 47 weeks pregnant (okay 39, but come on already!) I do have some dress favorites that make me feel anywhere from drop dead gorgeous to dang stinking adorable—even as an incredibly pregnant mama. If you haven’t jumped on these dresses yet, it’s ‘bout time to get busy, ladies:<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Antiquated</span>: Would any of you be opposed to slipping on this sexy number for a romantic night out with your favorite guy? I highly doubt it. The flattering cut and stretch of this fabric makes it a winner on almost every body type.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/67-771453.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 250px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/67-771448.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Daisy</span>: This dress screams adorable! It comes with a yellow ribbon, and I love to pair it with some matching yellow flats. But switch it up with something like lime green ribbon and pink shoes and you have yourself an entirely NEW (and still adorable) ensemble to traipse around town in!<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/103-713699.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 250px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/103-713693.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Barefoot in the Park/Pretty in Pink</span>: If you’ve ever been pregnant, you know how important it is to feel comfortable and still look cute. This dress, although not listed in our maternity section, is still a great option for pregnant women (I would just order a size up). Dress it up with a dangly necklace and bangle bracelets for a nicer event, or throw on the flip flops for an easy breezy look.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/350-749906.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 250px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/350-749901.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />And, until you find your perfect Shabby Apple dress, keep the inquiries and stories coming. <span style="font-size:130%;">I’m always up for some great conversation! </span><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3273394801291705844-5617427317188373731?l=www.shabbyapple.com%2Fblog'/></div>franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06516026856838148495noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3273394801291705844.post-4697636579921907562009-06-15T14:05:00.000-07:002009-06-15T14:22:22.991-07:00Frustration Station<a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/untitled-716278.bmp"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 283px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 218px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/untitled-716268.bmp" border="0" /></a><br /><div><span style="font-size:180%;">Our very own Ms. Athelia is posting over at </span><a href="http://www.daretodream.typepad.com/"><span style="font-size:180%;">Dare to Dream </span></a><span style="font-size:180%;">today</span>, daring to share some (fortunate) life frustrations that led her to a little venture called Shabby Apple.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Have you heard of it?</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>It's a great reminder that sometimes even bad things turn out to be good.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>And now <span style="font-size:130%;">we want to turn your frustrations into something good</span>, too! One of which is that you should have an umbrella with you all the time. At all times. All the time. No exceptions. It rains here a lot. You might say it rains all the time.<br /><br />The good news is, while the prim and proper businessmen of D.C. have to carry big, black, boring umbrellas, I can <span style="font-size:130%;">add a little flair with my rain protection</span>. And so can you. Check out these adorable options.<br /><br />If you want to blend in with what's happening above your head, try this <span style="font-size:130%;">rain drop patterned umbrella</span> from <a href="http://www.umbrellas.net/">umbrellas.net</a>.<br /><br /></div><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/umbrella-1-764408.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 374px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/umbrella-1-764406.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />Or if you want to <span style="font-size:130%;">offset the gray skies</span>, try these bright and bold stripes, also from <a href="http://www.umbrellas.net/">umbrellas.net</a>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/umbrella-2-707617.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 250px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 275px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/umbrella-2-707609.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />For a little <span style="font-size:130%;">old-fashioned flair</span>, check out these custom umbrellas from <a href="http://www.signaturebella.com/">signaturebella.com</a>. The pagoda-style canopies have just the right amount of vintage flair, and the handles come separately, so <span style="font-size:130%;">you can mix and match all you want</span>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/umbrella-3-761822.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/umbrella-3-761796.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/umbrella-4-717777.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 267px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/umbrella-4-717719.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />And if you <span style="font-size:130%;">want a better view of what's coming down</span>, maybe one of these clear options will appeal to you, both from <a href="http://www.umbrellas.com/">umbrellas.com</a>. (A little rain and a little love? Yes, please!)<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/umbrella-5-766453.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/umbrella-5-766451.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/umbrella-6-766448.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 288px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 288px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/umbrella-6-766438.jpg" border="0" /> <p align="right"></a><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">With one of these in your hand, you'll be begging the rain to stay</span>.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">And, around here at least, the rain just might oblige</span>.<br /><br /></p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3273394801291705844-6815479554533173758?l=www.shabbyapple.com%2Fblog'/></div>franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06516026856838148495noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3273394801291705844.post-64888478375794607642009-06-05T15:39:00.000-07:002009-06-05T15:53:39.933-07:00Tippy-Top Model<span style="font-size:180%;">There is never a dull moment around Shabby Apple HQ</span>.<br /><br />Which is probably just what you would expect for an awesome place filled with awesome people.<br /><br />And now you can be <span style="font-size:130%;">part of the excitement</span>! Right here! On this very blog!<br /><br />Starting today, and on every other Friday forevermore, we will feature a piece from one of our fantastic Shabby Apple interns. <span style="font-size:130%;">I think we shoud call them seedlings</span>. How about you? Our seedlings are going to keep us in the loop about everything that is happening at Shabby Apple, and in their own not-too-shabby lives.<br /><br />How does that sound?<br /><br />To start us off, here is a little something from Seedling Rodney.<br /><br />Enjoy!<br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">My Run-in with a Top Model<br /></span><span style="font-size:130%;">A Dream Come True for a Reality TV Fanatic</span><br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/IMG_4631-717086.JPG"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/IMG_4631-717078.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />Recently I had the opportunity to head east to “The Big Apple” and just be a tourist in one of the most fascinating and talked about cities in the U.S. My wife and I set out with two missions: eat some incredible food, and spot someone famous. Although we didn’t reach our goal of rubbing elbows with Oprah or Obama (neither of whom live in New York City, but both of whom were there at the same time as us), we did have a run-in with a wannabe Top Model. It was Celia from the most recent ANTM cycle.<br /><br />It was Saturday afternoon, and we were in Greenwich Village searching for a cold treat to cleanse our over-stimulated pallets. I noticed a very tall and skinny woman who suddenly became a familiar face. After all, we had watched her week after week battling it out with a house full of equally tall, skinny, and beautiful girls. She had made it to the final four and was our pick to become America’s Next Top Model. We asked for a photo and expected her to reluctantly pose and then move along, probably on her way to a casting or photo shoot.<br /><br />What we didn’t expect was how down to earth and genuinely charming Celia would be. Of course she’s no A-Lister, but I expected at least a hint of beautiful woman syndrome. She took time to get to know us, and immediately admitted that she was “such a dork, just reading an article about myself on my iphone.” She was happy to be recognized and to have a couple of fans from a faraway place. After chatting it up on the corner of Bleeker and Grove, she told us she was on her way to get some frozen yogurt, and invited us along. What a treat, indeed!<br /><br />One of the reasons Celia wowed the Top Model judges week after week was because of her personal style. She knows how to dress, and the judges even told her she could have another career as a stylist. She was able to find simple outfits that made lasting impressions. This day was no exception.<br /><br />Her attitude about dress reminds me of Shabby Apple. Shabby Apple makes dresses that cover well enough so that women don’t have to add tank tops or slips. And their dresses are made for every body type, not just size 2s like Celia! Basically it’s an uncomplicated and sure-fire way to look good and feel comfortable any time you step out of the house.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Which is pretty important because as you never know when you'll be spotted, recognized, or invited out for frozen yogurt with a Top Model! </span><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3273394801291705844-6488847837579460764?l=www.shabbyapple.com%2Fblog'/></div>franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06516026856838148495noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3273394801291705844.post-2504810251361506102009-06-03T16:38:00.000-07:002009-06-03T18:09:13.611-07:00Use Your Head<a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/332-780324.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/332-780312.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">I went to see a dinner theater performance of "High School Musical" last night</span>. (Yes, you read that right. And no, it's not really any good without Zac Efron. And yes, saying that makes me feel a little creepy.)<br /><br />Anyway.<br /><br />You know that song, "Get Your Head in the Game?" Well, it got me to thinking about heads, and what sort of game they should be in (stick with me, everyone) and that brings me to... <span style="font-size:130%;">headbands</span>!<br /><br />Voila!</span><br /><br />Luckily, one of our totally fabu Shabby Apple interns, Kate, had her head in the same place (that place being the game. Is this getting old?) and put together this totally fabu article all about this year's hottest head-gear trends.<br /><br />So, <span style="font-size:130%;">get <em>your</em> head in the game</span> and read away! (That was the last one. I promise.)<br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">It seemed the headband might be headed towards fashion extinction</span>.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Headbands came in with a bang</span> (or, shall we say, with bangs. Get it? Joke!) in the mid-2000s with outlets from high-end department stores and speciality boutiques to Target and Claire's carrying the favored hair accessory in wide patent leather, stripes, polka dots and everything in between. Soon, nearly every retail clothing store in the book was carrying headbands, and suddenly what was once hip and cutting edge became expected and overly familiar. Nothing but another headband.<br /><br />Had this hair accessory reached its carrying capacity in the world of fashion? Would this item’s overabundance lead to the wiping out of the entire headband population?<br /><br />Such a grim outlook on the headband’s future has been decisively refuted by recent innovations and alterations. In fact, spring 2009 has seen such a <span style="font-size:130%;">complete reworking</span> of the headband’s basic makeup, the season seems to offer the gift of a totally new hair accessory rather than a slightly modified regurgitation of an old staple.<br /><br />For starters, we have the <span style="font-size:130%;">“headwrap” variation</span>. With one or two bands crossing from the back of the head across the forehead rather than over the scalp, this take on the headband expresses a casual hippie look. Some are thin elastic bands embellished with small stones or braiding. Shabby Apple has also taken up the trend. Our <a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/t-accessories.aspx">women's accessories </a>include headwraps made of thick and colorful bands of fabric, adorned with whimsical flowers. (You can't say no to whimsy!)<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/HeadbandUrban1-783063.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 255px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 390px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/HeadbandUrban1-783060.jpg" border="0" /></a> <em>{Like this look? Colorful feathers decorating headbands call to mind the retro style of the flapper, but you don't have to travel back in time to get them. In fact, you only have to travel as far back as the Shabby Apple Web site for a fantastic collection to get you started.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/HeadbandUrban5-773282.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 255px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 390px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/HeadbandUrban5-773280.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><em>{Like this look? (Can you stand the hilarity?)<br /><br /><span style="font-size:180%;">Looks like headbands might be here to stay after all</span>.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3273394801291705844-250481025136150610?l=www.shabbyapple.com%2Fblog'/></div>franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06516026856838148495noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3273394801291705844.post-53605296144322642512009-05-27T17:17:00.000-07:002009-05-27T18:58:31.405-07:00Beach Bunny Bingo<p align="left"><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/feet-in-sand-788166.bmp"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/feet-in-sand-788140.bmp" border="0" /></a><br /><div align="left"><span style="font-size:180%;">I am just going to put it out there that the beach is probably one of the Top Five most romantic places to fall in love</span>. I am not speaking from personal experience, mind you. I just have a feeling.<br /><br /></div><div align="left">The only catch being that you want to look your best while you are falling in love, and looking your best on the beach can be tricky. Unless, that is, the "I didn't shower this morning and just spent half an hour in salt water" look is your best look. But I doubt that it is. I just have a feeling.<br /><br />There is no perfect solution, but these tips might help speed along your own summer lovin'. You can thank me by naming your first-born child after me. It seems only fair.<br /><br /><br />For starters, <span style="font-size:130%;">get yourself a trendy suit</span>. One-shouldered suits are hot (or should I say h-o-t-t) this season, as are cut-out bikinis. One-piece cut-outs are a nice compromise if you only want to give away a little peek.<br /></div><p align="left"><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/2009bikinitrendsoneshoulder-764961.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 120px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/2009bikinitrendsoneshoulder-764951.jpg" border="0" /></a> {Photo courtesy of <a href="http://www.fashionising.com/trends/b--Swimwear-Bikini-2009-Fashion-Trends-1293.html#oneshoulder">fashionsing.com</a>} </p><br /><p>If you are looking for a printed suit, leave the dainty stuff behind and go for <span style="font-size:130%;">bold graphic stripes, colorful paisley or some other stand-out pattern</span> instead. Celebrities are sporting eye-popping hippie-style prints up and down all kinds of coasts.<br /></p><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/0401-beyonce-knowles_li-747594.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 236px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 338px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/0401-beyonce-knowles_li-747582.jpg" border="0" /></a> {Photo courtesy of <a href="http://www.glamour.com/fashion/2009/04/the-new-swim-trends-of-2009#slide=2">Glamour Magazine</a>}<br /><br />This summer is also a great time to <span style="font-size:130%;">experiment with the classic black suit</span>. A saucy cut-out bikini or one-piece is a great option. Or look for basic black suits with some non-basic embellishments such as ring details, a flattering halter top or retro-cut bottoms.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/0401-penelope-cruz_li-788728.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 242px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 338px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/0401-penelope-cruz_li-788725.jpg" border="0" /></a> {Photo courtesy of <a href="http://www.glamour.com/fashion/2009/04/the-new-swim-trends-of-2009#slide=8">Glamour Magazine</a>}<br /><br /><br /><p>Next, pick out some <span style="font-size:130%;">swimwear accessories</span>. Remember, that suit isn't just for swimming. (And, frankly, might not be for swimming at all.) Our goal is romance here. And <span style="font-size:130%;">sheer cover-ups</span>, one hot trend for this hot season, have romance written all over them.<br /></p><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/bikiniaccessories2009-790979.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 275px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/bikiniaccessories2009-790976.jpg" border="0" /></a> {Photo courtesy of <a href="http://www.fashionising.com/trends/b--Swimwear-Bikini-2009-Fashion-Trends-1293.html#accessories">fashionsing.com</a>}<br /><br />Or, you can <span style="font-size:130%;">adapt a non-beach-related trend</span>, such as bohemian chic, and take it to the sand. <p></p><p align="left"><br /><br /></p><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/BohemianBikiniTrend2009-754101.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 259px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/BohemianBikiniTrend2009-754082.jpg" border="0" /></a> {Photo courtesy of <a href="http://www.fashionising.com/trends/b--Swimwear-Bikini-2009-Fashion-Trends-1293.html#accessories">fashionsing.com</a>}<br /><br />Short shorts are also an emerging cover-up trend. Try some sporty shorts or some edgy denim cut-offs. They're the perfect way to get some coverage without leaving everything to the imagination. <span style="font-size:130%;">(If you've got it, flaunt it. Right, ladies?!)</span><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/0401-jennifer-aniston_li-749371.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 211px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 338px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/0401-jennifer-aniston_li-749368.jpg" border="0" /></a> {Photo courtesy of <a href="http://www.glamour.com/fashion/2009/04/the-new-swim-trends-of-2009#slide=9">Glamour Magazine</a>}<br /><p></p><br /><p><span style="font-size:130%;">Short dresses, long shirts and robes</span> are also good cover-up options for this summer.</p><p>For the finishing touches, think about a <span style="font-size:130%;">beach bag with a large graphic print or design</span> (again, anything retro is a safe bet this season), and some kind of sun hat. My favorites are straw, in either the <span style="font-size:130%;">floppy or cowboy varieties</span>. A good hat will cover your ocean hair, protect your beautiful faces and make you just the right amount of straight-up adorable.</p><p><span style="font-size:180%;">And then true love can't help but find you seaside</span>.</p><br /><p></p><br /><p align="right"><span style="font-size:130%;">Planning to hit the beach this summer</span>?</p><p align="right"><span style="font-size:180%;">What is your must-have oceanside accessory</span>?<br /></p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3273394801291705844-5360529614432264251?l=www.shabbyapple.com%2Fblog'/></div>franceshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06516026856838148495noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3273394801291705844.post-69409961410565807732009-05-22T14:03:00.000-07:002009-05-22T14:19:48.086-07:00Long Weekend, Long Savings<a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/memorial_day-07-2-739087.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 302px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/memorial_day-07-2-739074.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div><span style="font-size:180%;">Confess</span>. </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Not everything, just what you're doing for the long weekend. My mind raced through a couple of ideas (spring/summer trends we love/hate, Items you can steal from your husband/boyfriend and those you can't) and nothing seemed quite right. I walked into the office (which is in the middle of some MAJOR expansion and rearranging) and we did some measuring and calculating about space changes. I walked upstairs to see Mary (our darling office maven) looking through some amazing shoes in preparation of the photo shoots that start tomorrow for the launch of the new <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Manhattan</span> line. Out of the stacks of dresses walked a charming lady in jeans and a t-shirt. We talked for a minute, she made some risque jokes and I knew that we would be instant friends. </div><div> </div><div>Feel free to take a minute and guess who she was..... THE DESIGNER OF THE NEW <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">MANHATTAN</span> LINE! That's right people, Ms Rebekah McKinney in the flesh! She's amazing. She had some samples of her fall line (get excited for fall) and the new <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Manhattan</span> line. Talking to her I realized that this blog post should really be about her. I begged her to do it, she agreed and even told me she'd send me some sketches. She sent me a really great one with 5 dresses on it, and I thought about posting that here, but I didn't want to give too much away before the 17<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">th</span> (official launch day). These dresses are all made for work and have 3% stretch (this woman <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">sooo</span> gets fashion and comfort). I mean, look at this. You want it don't you? Me too.</div><div></div><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; width: 307px; height: 400px; text-align: center;" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/CCF01132008_00000-797065.jpg" border="0" />So, without further ado, I give you Ms Rebekah McKinney. Designer of many of the dresses in the new <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Manhattan</span> Line, mother of 2, friend of Shabby Apple and overall guru. </div><div><br /><strong>1) What is your most loved body part?</strong> </div><div>My right ear lop, it's just so much more graceful than the left one. Oh you mean like on other people? The collar bone, it's just a sophisticated body part somehow. It reminds me of old classic Hollywood movies like 'Breakfast at Tiffany's.'<br /><strong>2)What’s the most embarrassing thing you did this week?</strong> </div><div>Leaving voice mail tends to be the most embarrassing thing in my life. Somehow I can't convince my mouth to just say "Hi this is Rebekah please call me back at your earliest convenience." No no no, it never works that way for me, it always turns out to be this long jumbled ramble about everything I could have possibly wanted to talk about what made me think of it. It's humiliating and half the time I catch myself mid sentence and shout "call me back"<br /><strong>3)If you had to pick 2 clothing items that you <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">couldn</span>’t live without what would they be (and you can’t say sweats or underwear)?</strong> </div><div>Dark jeans, they can be dressed up or dressed down and I don't have to shave either. Hooker heals, that pair of shoes that's completely unrealistic but if you're just having one of those days at least you have something great to wear that's <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">guaranteed</span> to fit.<br /><strong>4)What’s one of your guilty pleasures?</strong> </div><div>I love going to movies by myself, everyone I tell that to thinks it's bizarre but it's one of the most freeing things in the world. The first time I did it I was in 6<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">th</span> grade and I snuck out to see the Lion King. I started to feel kinda silly when I cried as <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">Simba's</span> dad died but then realized I didn't need to feel stupid because no one I knew was there to see it. It's been my favorite way to unwind ever since.<br /><strong>5)What’s your favorite dress of the collection? Why?</strong></div><div>I am really proud of the Giraffe printed pencil skirt and tuck at the collar dress. It's simple yet sophisticated and a pencil skirts look f<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_10">lattering</span> on every body type.<br /><strong>6)When designing clothes what’s the first thing you think about?</strong> </div><div>The person who's going to wear it. My goal is to make the sort of clothing that you feel beautiful in. We all have that one thing that we're a little sad to take off at the end of the day because we love how we feel in it. I'm in the market to make those sorts of outfits.<br /><strong>7)In your opinion, what’s the most important accessory to complete an outfit? (and if you say “a smile” we’ll all puke in our mouths a little)</strong> </div><div>A great fitting bra. Nothing ruins an <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_11">ensemble</span> like a saggy set of girls.<br /><strong>8)Least-favorite current fashion trend?</strong> </div><div>Jumpsuits, the moment I saw them on a list for "it items on the runway" I wanted to weep. Few things make a figure less flattered then a jumpsuit.<br /><strong>9)Most-favorite current fashion trend?</strong> </div><div>I love the half sleeve, you may have noticed since all the collection is that just above the elbow length. I had just finalized the line when I saw all these amazing designs that were half sleeves and I did a little happy dance for being on point.<br /><strong>10)What is the best outfit you’<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_12">ve</span> ever had and where did you wear it?</strong> </div><div>I don't know why it's so memorable but when I was 8 my friend and I bought matching outfits. They were black stretch shorts under a three <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_13">tiered</span> floral purple printed skirt and matching top. I just remember feeling so cool in it.</div><div> </div><div>There she is ladies and gentlemen. I hope you're excited for the 17<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_14">th</span>. I am.</div><div> </div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3273394801291705844-3542476872677902414?l=www.shabbyapple.com%2Fblog'/></div>Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04857643925963719177noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3273394801291705844.post-80103021991901631082009-04-28T17:48:00.000-07:002009-04-28T20:01:45.962-07:00Courage Take (for goodness sake--it's just a little change)Spring is upon us. The tell-tell signs are here--outside my window I can hear the neighbors riding their bikes up my driveway and into the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">cul</span>-<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">de</span>-sac where I live, my hands have blisters on them from gardening and the dear Frances (who normally writes this blog) has set out on her yearly departure from the country. If you want to hear all about her amazing trip to Turkey and see pictures you can check it out <a href="http://www.ablogforfrances.blogspot.com/">here</a>. As she was unsure as to how much access she would have to the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Internet</span> she left me in charge of the Shabby Apple Blog. It's a lot of pressure and I'm going to be honest; I've lost a little sleep. I have to be fun, funny and have something interesting to say on the topic of fashion. Here goes. Be kind.<br /><div><br /><div><br /><div><br />My friend <a href="http://adriandayton.com/book/">Adrian</a> is writing a book. It's all about how normal people can become people of <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">virtue</span>. It's an experiment of sorts and every month you try to develop a different <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">virtue</span>. I'm one of the testers of the program. Last month was integrity (didn't do too well). This month is courage (doing much better thank you). While preparing for this blog and thinking about the hits and misses I've had with my own personal fashion I was struck with how much the idea of courage has to do with personal style.<br /></div><br /><div>My hairdresser says that no one should have the same hairstyle for more than a year. You should change something--brighten the color, add bangs or layers--something. I think that her advice is very good and can also be applied to clothing and other aspects of fashion. Styles change. And, if you're still wearing the exact same outfits that you were wearing 10 years ago that means they changed without you.<br /></div><br /><div>All of us have the tendency to hang onto clothing items that we love and make us feel confident. There's no problem with that. The problem is hanging onto all of them and not getting new ones. I know this amazing woman. She's talented, successful, attractive and really smart. She has two children who are in their late 20s. Two years ago for their family Christmas card she sent out a picture that was taken of her family when her children were small--4 or 5. The inside of the card showed her family in the same type of clothes and the same poses but the picture was recent. The card said something clever about how around the holidays we don't like things to change or something. It was a nice card. But one thing struck me as wrong. In the recent picture this woman was not just wearing an outfit that was similar to the one she wore in picture on the front but was wearing THE VERY SAME LARGE-PASTEL-FLORAL-PRINT-ON-AN-OFF-WHITE-<span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">BACKGROUND</span> TWO-PIECE SUIT. This woman is in amazing shape. She could beat me in a foot race, arm wrestle and all contests that involve not eating cake and candy. But those <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">capital</span> letters are not accenting how great she looked. Her lack of change in wardrobe and hair style (dull brown, crunchy perm) don't do justice to her beauty.<br /></div><br /><div>So to the woman I know and all of us who have a little trouble moving with the times I offer a couple of suggestions on how to make it less painful. Be brave. It won't hurt too much.<br /></div><br /><div>1) Find a Style Icon.<br /></div><br /><div>Is there someone at your work who dresses the way you want to? Is there a celebrity who every time you see her you think, "she is so amazing?" Copy them. Do what they do. I don't mean that you have to copy every outfit that they wear exactly (that's creepy). But look at trends. Here's my newest style icon (the woman in black. Though I admire the one in pink as well).</div><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 193px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/queenandmichelle.jpg-735170.png" border="0" /><br /><br /><div>What trends do I see? Knee length skirts. Check. Cardigan. Check. Moderate heels. Check. Those are all things I can do. Buying a $2000 designer dress really isn't in the cards right now. But a knee length skirt with a little <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">tulle</span>? Totally doable. Sting of pearls? I'm on it.<br /></div><br /><br /><div><strong>2) Take a good look at yourself</strong></div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Chances are good that part of your style is a little bit like who you admire. What parts of your style fit and what is going to have to change?</div><br /><br /><div><strong>3) Be ready for change.</strong></div><br /><br /><div>This is especially for those of you who run a little on the side of informal. I know that sweats and scrubs are incredible comfortable and there are many places you can wear them--for instance, if you're in a <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">coma</span>, or recovering from surgery. Fashionable clothes don't feel like sweats and scrubs. If you're wearing pants that fit <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">appropriately</span>, you'll be able to feel them on your body. That's not a bad thing. You don't have to be uncomfortable but it's true that at the end of a day wearing cute, <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_10">girly</span> shoes you feet are going to feel more tired than they would if you were wearing sneakers. </div><br /><br /><div><strong>4) Start Small. </strong></div><br /><div><strong></strong><br /></div><br /><div>No one is asking you to become Lady Gaga over night<br /></div><br /><div></div><br /><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/Lady-gaga-tea-756311.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br /><div></div><em>(photo courtesy of people.com)<br /></em><br /><br /><div>(besides, truthfully, most people can't pull off that kind of look. And really wouldn't want to). Start with accessories. Shoes, <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_11">jewelry</span> and bags are easy to change. And your changes don't have to be drastic. If you normally wear simple necklaces, try something a little more chunky. Look at this fashion moment from my icon. Totally unassuming jacket right? Yes. But look at that brightly colored shirt underneath. You could do that. </div><br /><br /><div></div><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 312px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/mrso_april13-530x414-745371.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br /><div><br /><div></div><br /><div><strong>6) You don't have to break the bank.<br /></strong></div><br /><br /><div>I have a confession to make. I'm 30 and I am only now curing my fear of <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_12">girly</span> shoes. For the first time this week I bought myself a pair of pointy toed shoes (I know, I know a little late getting on the wagon). This pair in fact. </div><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/IMG_2200-768734.JPG" border="0" /><br /><br /><div>And when I walked into work, my workmate said, "great shoes." And he's a guy. And not gay. Why, you may be asking, did I only buy them now? Because I found them at the thrift store and I thought $4 was a reasonable price. You can buy a clothing item that you're a little scared of at the thrift store and if you hate it when you get home and try it on again, no problem. You've only spent $4. </div><br /><br /><div>Make a goal girls (and guys). What are you going to change about the way you look? What small changes can you make? My next goal. Conquering the 3/4 length <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_13">sleeve</span> jacket. And the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_14">origami</span> neck blouse. Oh. And the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_15">peplum</span> dress. So I've got at long way to go. It's okay. Baby steps and the simple question, "what would my fashion icon do?"</div><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3273394801291705844-8010302199190163108?l=www.shabbyapple.com%2Fblog'/></div>Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04857643925963719177noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3273394801291705844.post-61396668574437518742009-04-23T20:52:00.000-07:002009-04-23T21:01:55.162-07:00A Face Mothers and Everyone Else Can Love<span style="font-size:180%;">It's official</span>.<br /><br />Shabby Baby has named a new <span style="font-size:130%;">Picture Perfect Princess</span>.<br /><br />Oh, what's that? (It went very well, thankyouverymuch, and I got the job. So, hurrah!) The biggest challenge wasn't the interview itself, though. It was <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">figuring out what in the heck I should wear</span>. How to be professional but not stodgy? Stylish but not over-the-top? How to express my own personal style but still be appropriate?<div><br /></div><div>In this bummer of an economy (have you heard?), I bet I am not the only one heading to interviews and hoping for the best. Here are some tips on <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">putting your best foot, and fashion, forward</span>.</div><div><br /></div><div>Before you even go to the interview, <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">do a little reconnaissance</span>.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/images-2-715344.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 87px; height: 123px;" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/images-2-715343.jpeg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />Call the office's receptionist, explain that you have an interview and want to look your best, and ask what most people in the company wear to work. If you have a friend working in the organization, pick her brain for ideas, too.</div><div><br /></div><div>Also, take into consideration the <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">location and type of job</span>. A rec center and a corporate office have vastly different office cultures and dress codes. Dress for the job you want.</div><div><br /></div><div>For traditional office jobs, <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">suits are usually best</span> and conservative colors such as navy, gray and black are your safest bet. If you go with a skirt suit, make sure the skirt is long enough that you can sit comfortably without showing too much leg. Nylons are also a must with skirt suits (sorry ladies) and you should stick with neutral colors.</div><div><br /></div><div>The cut of your suit, however, does give you a little bit of creative freedom. Of course, everything you wear to an interview should fit well. Make sure your suit jacket, especially, has a flattering and well-fitting cut. To add a little spice, look for suits with subtle unique details, such as a <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">narrower lapel, non-traditional buttons, scalloped cuffs or a more trendy cut</span>. Tasteful stripes or other subtle patterns can also kick it up a notch. Suits do not have to look and feel like you dressed in a refrigerator box.</div><div><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/womens_suit2-713943.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 218px; height: 400px;" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/womens_suit2-713933.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br /></div><div>Once you have the perfect suit picked out, a <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">coordinated blouse</span> is the next step, and you have a little freedom here, as well. As with the suit, more conservative colors are best, but don't be afraid of a little flair like <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">tuxedo ruffles</span> on the front of your blouse, a peter pan collar, or even a <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">lace or silk camisole under your suit jacket</span> instead.</div><div><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/womens-suit-758208.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/womens-suit-758206.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br /></div><div>For your fancy feet, stick with <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">closed-toe shoes, pumps or loafers</span>. Leave the stiletoes at home (unless you are going to <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;">that</span> kind of job interview). Depending on the season, a simple pair of boots might also be appropriate. Add some edge with a l<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">ow-heeled patent shoe or a subtly two-toned heel</span>. Sandals are out. Unless it's an interview with "Baywatch," of course.</div><div><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/9b98d964951d80abb80452a574b69255-775138.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 328px; height: 366px;" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/9b98d964951d80abb80452a574b69255-775136.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;">{Stella McCartney shoes on StopStyle.com}</span><br /><br /></div><div>As a general rule, <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">jewelry should be minimal</span>, and no jewelry is better than obviously cheap jewelry. But, you have a chance to make a statement here as well. Add some color to your suit with a <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">tasteful brooch</span>, or spice up your blouse with a <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">colorful necklace</span>. I have one with pearls and lightly-colored rhinestones that works perfectly for this type of occasion. As with all interview attire, keep it on the subtle side (that means take out your nose ring and don't wear a whole armful of bangles) but don't be afraid to express your personal style. A <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">silk scarf is also a great accessory</span> option.</div><div><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/images-762356.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 85px; height: 122px;" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/images-762355.jpeg" border="0" alt="" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;">{www.vivaterra.com}</span><br /><br /></div><div>Keep make-up and perfume light (that means save the cat-eye eyeliner for later), and make sure your nails are clean and well-manicured. If you like having polish on your nails, go for a light, simple color. Make sure your <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">hair looks neat and professional</span>. Cover tattoos, and leave your gum behind. Instead, pop a breath mint just before you walk into the building.</div><div><br /></div><div>Finally, put your resume and all the other paperwork you need into a <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">nice briefcase or portfolio</span>. An interview for the job of your dreams is not the place for your tiny clubbing purse or your over-stuffed handbag. (Plus, you just never know what is going to fall out of those massive purses. Am I right?)</div><div><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/images-1-737603.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 150px;" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/images-1-737600.jpeg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;">{www.allbriefcases.com}</span><br /><br /></div><div>Try on your ideal interview ensemble a few days in advance, to make sure everything fits and looks just right. This resource can help all you busy mothers recreate the critical moments in your children's lives: first steps, first smiles, first words. If your kids are anything like me (and, let's remember, I am even an adult), they probably have all kinds of questions about what they were like when they were younger. You lucky (blue) devils!<br /><br />Try the <span style="font-size:130%;">90 Words Per Minute </span><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-93-90-words-per-minute.aspx"><span style="font-size:130%;">secretary dress</span></a> for an upscale day at the office.<br /></p><p><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/90-words-762768.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 192px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/90-words-762756.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Spice it up with a pair of wild animal print pumps, or cinch it with a wide black patent belt. If jewelry is more your accessory style, off-set it with a stylishly subtle <a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-306-hammered-cuff.aspx">cuff</a> and a pair of simple <a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-278-lattice.aspx">silver earrings</a>. A sequined cardigan or a chic, well-fitting blazer can easily transition you from a day at the office to a night on the town.<br /><br />Or how about the <span style="font-size:130%;">Mediterranean </span><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-299-mediterranean.aspx"><span style="font-size:130%;">V-collar dress</span></a>?</p><p><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/mediterranean-711283.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 192px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/mediterranean-711270.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I think I have already expressed how much I love this one. Slip on some brightly colored stilettos and wear it to a spring wedding, or pair it with some sparkly flats for a classy garden party. Top it off with a bold headpiece in <a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-351-sixteen-candles.aspx">flowers</a>, or <a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-344-take-flight.aspx">feathers</a>.<br /><br />And, voila! That's right. Pinned right to the top of her shoulder, as if it had just landed there and decided to stay. But it didn't look whimsical and cute. It looked ridiculous. (Have I mentioned that already?)<br /><br />So, I got to thinking. <span style="font-size:130%;">How <em>can</em> you wear a brooch creatively</span>? Because perched on your shoulder can't be right. But I have a lovely collection of shiny, vintage brooches from my mother and grandmother and I would love to use them more, while also avoiding the fate of this poor woman. And I bet you would, too.<br /><br />Can you guess what's coming next?<br /><br />It's tips! Tips are coming next!<br /><br />1. Instead of pinning a brooch to your lapel, <span style="font-size:130%;">pin it to a chain and wear it as a pendant</span>. You can also turn brooches into bracelets by attaching them to a cloth wrist cuff (homemade is fine.)<br /><br /><br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/brooch-necklace-798807.bmp"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 267px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/brooch-necklace-798768.bmp" border="0" /></a><br /><em>{image from </em><a href="http://www.robincamille.com/"><em>http://www.robincamille.com/</em></a><em>}<br /></em><br /></p><br /><p>2. If you are going out for a fancy night on the town (as I am sure you all have hot dates every night of the week), use some bobby pins to <span style="font-size:130%;">attach a blingy brooch to your updo</span>, maybe nestled in a bed of messy curls, as a hairpin in a sleek bob or even attached to the side of a cloth or elastic headband.<br /><br /></p><br /><p><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/brooch-in-hair-756444.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 277px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/brooch-in-hair-756442.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><em>{image from </em><a href="http://www.liveweddings.com/"><em>http://www.liveweddings.com/</em></a><em>}<br /></em><br /></p><br /><p>3. Got a dress that doesn't fit quite right? Gather the extra fabric (under the bust is a great place to do this), and secure it with a large, striking brooch. I have also used brooches to spice up the waistlines of dresses that fit. Other <span style="font-size:130%;">non-traditional placements</span> include at the V of a sweater or shirt, or higher up on the shoulder of a sleeveless blouse or dress. (But, remember, not actually on the shoulder. Because that looks, say it with me, ridiculous.)<br /><br /></p><br /><p>4. Another trick I love is using a large, usually round-ish brooch to <span style="font-size:130%;">cover up an ugly button</span> or other closure on a cardigan or shrug. If you have a cover-up with no button at all and you want a makeshift closure, a brooch also comes in handy.<br /><br /></p><br /><p>5. You can also ditch the clothes all together and use a brooch to add a little class and bling to an <span style="font-size:130%;">evening bag, a satin belt, a hat or a scarf</span>.<br /><br /></p><br /><p><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/brooch-on-bag-740358.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 343px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/brooch-on-bag-740355.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><em>{image from </em><a href="http://www.butterfliesandhurricanes.co.uk/"><em>http://www.butterfliesandhurricanes.co.uk/</em></a><em>}</em><br /><br /></p><br /><p>6. Also, don't feel like you can only wear one statement brooch at a time. If you have several smaller pins, <span style="font-size:130%;">bunch them together</span> on your lapel or around the neckline of a simple dress or blouse for a new twist on an old favorite.<br /><br /></p><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/multiple-brooches-786029.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 215px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 288px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/multiple-brooches-786027.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><em>{image from </em><a href="http://www.jckonline.com/"><em>http://www.jckonline.com/</em></a><em>}<br /><br /></em><br /></div><div align="right"><span style="font-size:180%;">Are you ready to pin one on</span>?<br />What are your favorite tricks for getting <span style="font-size:130%;">the most bang out of your brooch-y bling</span>? </div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3273394801291705844-315364782824453552?l=www.shabbyapple.com%2Fblog'/></div>Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04857643925963719177noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3273394801291705844.post-24368582170300374942009-03-17T14:36:00.000-07:002009-03-17T15:09:27.491-07:00And A Dash of Retro<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/il_430xN.7532136-708387.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 389px;" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/il_430xN.7532136-708383.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />My mama was in town over the weekend and we decided to tackle a sewing project while she was here. I will not get into the particulars of whether or not this was a good idea, but I will tell you that said sewing project yielded the most delicious retro-style apron, and I have decided that <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;">retro-style aprons are totally the new black</span>! Or something like that.<div><br /></div><div>Of course, we all know the practical benefits of aprons. For one thing, they save your darling clothes from being ruined by cooking-time messes such as flying powdered sugar (or whatever it is that happens to fly around your kitchen). But retro aprons give you so much more. In addition to the necessary kitchen protection, they also add <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">a dash of whimsy and a pinch of adorable</span> to your ensemble, instead of drowning you in frumpy homemaker garb. And, who wouldn't be more excited to roll their sleeves up in the usually mundane kitchen if it meant tying on a charming apron? Well, not me. That's for sure.</div><div><br /></div><div>If you are a skilled domestic diva, making your own apron is definitely an option. (I used a vintage handkerchief that says, "Feeling Lucky Cowboy?" on mine, and that is sass you just can't buy in a store.) But, if you do go the retail road, here are some suggestions.</div><div><br /></div><div>You can go <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">dotty, striped or patriotic</span> with these sweet cover-ups from <a href="http://www.carolynskitchenonline.com/Apron1.html">Carolyn's Kitchen</a>. (These sweeties don't even need clothes underneath. Oo-la-la!)</div><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/Sweetheart_Red_Index-782200.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 158px; height: 320px;" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/Sweetheart_Red_Index-782189.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/Dorothy-Aqua(th)-747573.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 153px; height: 320px;" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/Dorothy-Aqua(th)-747563.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/Americana-Apron-747548.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 165px; height: 320px;" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/Americana-Apron-747544.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />This sweet pink number from<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"> </a><a href="http://www.girlyaprons.com/Cupcake-Provocateur--Cindy-Apron-Cupcake-Cutie_p_596.html">Cupcake Provocateur</a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"> </a>would make <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">the perfect hostess gift</span>. That's right, swimsuit season is almost upon us! And, may I just say, I am loving this new trend of retro swimming suits? I may? Well, thank you kindly. <span style="font-size:180%;">I am loving this new trend of retro swimming suits</span>.<br /><br />For one thing, they make one-pieces hip again, which is good news for those of us looking for more coverage rather than less. I am especially digging the styles with a lower cut leg. I've got a little junk in the trunk, you know, and I don't need everyone seeing all of it.<br /><br />But, more than that, <span style="font-size:130%;">these suits are just plain adorable</span>! I adore the flirty ruffles, the old-school prints and the overall classiness. A quick online search will probably bring up dozens and dozens of options, but here are some of my recent favorites.<br /><br />I just can't get enough of these <a href="http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&navAction=jump&id=14983068&search=true&isProduct=true&parentid=SEARCH+RESULTS&color=01">cheery polka dots</a>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/dots-suit-781596.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 255px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 390px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/dots-suit-781594.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />The ruching and halter top give this retro throwback <a href="http://www.modcloth.com/store/ModCloth/Womens/Swimwear/Bathing+Beauty+Retro+Swimsuit+in+Black">black swimsuit </a>just the right amount of sass.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/ruche-suit-712233.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 280px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/ruche-suit-712226.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />If you're looking for something that really makes a statement try this <a href="http://www.starletsandharlets.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=51028">boldly striped suit</a>, just the right mix and daring and demure.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/striped-suit-741551.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 294px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.shabbyapple.com/blog/uploaded_images/striped-suit-741546.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />Never mind that I still have to sleep with a heating pad, <span style="font-size:130%;">perfect sunny days</span> by the pool or the waves will be here soon enough, and I think we all deserve a smashing new suit to celebrate.
