That's right folks......this is NOT Gracie! But they look so similar, even I have to look twice! You might remember Lily from this shoot with her brother and sister. She's a miniature schnauzer / shih tzu mix, (notice the cute little underbite!) and she's just as sweet as can be. Lily wanted to have her own personal session to show off how pretty she is with her new haircut :)

killian
This big beauty is a 10 year old Newfoundland, named Killian. Most live to be between 8 and 10, and she's still doing amazing. Killian works as a therapy dog for disabled and at-risk children. She was so sweet, and so well trained, and by far the biggest dog to ever grace the SBP home studio! We'll be doing an outdoor session with Killian, hopefully next weekend if the weather cooperates, so look for more to come....

I had a good "field test" with the new camera today, and got back to my roots with a location shoot. My friend Mary has three wonderful old dogs, who are all very photogenic. It was great to see how the d700 would perform on a dreary day, inside a fairly dark house, and I'm very much impressed. Here's a just a few of the great shots I got in our casual little session....

i'm in love.
Well, with Gracie, of course, (how cute is she all bundled in the blanket??) but this time I'm talking about my new camera! (Nikon d700) I took these photos tonight, fairly dark with just the living room light on. The first one is at ISO 1400 and the second one is at ISO 5000. Crazy. I predict many more sessions on location in people's homes from now on!

ollie + izzy b
A friend from Seattle came to stay with us over the New Year and brought her 2 little buddies along. Izzy B is a shih tzu and Ollie is a pekinese she rescued just one day before he was to be euthanized. They're the sweetest little dogs, but I think Gracie is glad to have the house to herself again!

We had our 2nd annual Bad Plus double date last night, and it was fantastic! Every year at this time, The Bad Plus plays a series of shows at the Dakota Jazz Club downtown. They're an amazing trio, and so much fun to watch. I definitely recommend seeing them whenever you can!

Cooper came over tonight for a session, and we definitely had our hands full! This gorgeous, spunky mutt is a coonhound-mix, adopted from Homeward Bound Rescue (go rescues!) We had alot of fun, and got some great photos....here's just a few of my favorites. I love his coy look in the blue one :) and I'm now realizing that we were inadvertently patriotic in the background choices.....hmm.

Gracie always seems to love a new toy, no matter what it is, but she took a particular liking to her new set from Room Candy! This is one of the things I won for the ODP '08 contest They sent 2 donuts and an ice cream cone. Here's Gracie enjoying one of the donuts!

an easy way to give back
I came across this great organization today, GoodSearch. It works just like any other search engine, except every time you do a search, one penny is donated to your charity of choice. The really cool part though, is they work with over 700 retailers (big names that we all shop at) and when you get to their site through GoodSearch, a percentage of your purchase (sometimes pretty significant) is automatically donated too! For example, ebay gives up to 37.5% on qualifying purchases! I wish I'd have known about this sooner!

Need a couple good ideas for causes who could use donations? How about Homeward Bound or Pet Haven?

award winning photographer!
I entered the Outstanding Dog Photo '08 contest, sponsored by pamperedpuppy.com and I won the Humor category, AND got an honorable mention, AND am featured as March and May in their 2009 calendar! They said I was the only photographer to win in 2 areas. Over 3500 photos were submitted, and the contest was judged by amazing dog photographers nationwide, like Sharon Montrose and Erin Vey to name a couple. I'm so honored, and very encouraged to keep doing what I'm doing! You can see all the winners here and the calendar here.

photo fundraiser
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Pet Haven Photo Fundraiser on Saturday! We raised $200, which will pay for spay/neutering 5 animals! AND, 20% of any prints that are ordered from Saturday will go to Pet Haven as well. I hope to do more events like this in future, so keep an eye out for upcoming opportunities!

This lovely dachshund is the Mod Dog herself, belonging to mod-dog.com founder, Kari! Kassi wasn't even sure she wanted me to pet her at first, but by the end of our session, she was practically in my lap, loving me up :)

I love when I meet some dogs, I feel like I have a new best friend.....Mija was one of those dogs. She's so happy and friendly and I totally want one just like her! She's a rescue dog from a high-kill shelter down south. Thank you to Midwest Animal Rescue for saving Mija!

On Monday I was up in my hometown of Park Rapids for my Dog Photo Day at Dogs Paw. There was a great variety of 14 dogs and 1 cat, and I got some really great photos! Plus, I'll be donating $80 to the Headwaters Animal Shelter. Here's a handful of my favorites.....there were definitely lots to choose from!
