My lack of confidence is not from lack of knowledge, how to interact with pupils or adjust lessons to make learning successful, but from the change of environment. I have gone from working alone with no feedback other than happy parents and progressing pupils to being in-school where I feel like a performing seal that everyone secretly wishes would drop the ball.
On OFSTED arriving for a quickie inspection I was not asked if I felt confident that I could carry on teaching should they stop & show an interest, but 'Did I have a Lesson Plan?' I suppose I should be grateful they did not shove me in a cupboard or cancel my lesson entirely.
Back on home turf - parent & child dyslexia club (same school) and everything is fine again - no pressure in having to be a 'real' teacher straighjacketed by rules.

SiaranSiaranwww.gtts.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3258082.post-1138905355306958032006-02-02T18:35:00.000Z2006-02-02T18:35:00.000ZIt seems to me (obviously only my perception of th...It seems to me (obviously only my perception of the situation from your writings) that the first instructor was certainly more confident and, as is usually the case, this inspires the students to be more confident. What you didn't mention though, was that the confidence in the instructor and the relaxed attitude of the students to the instructor, are often a reaction to how they perceive him or her to be outside the classroom. Is the instructor a good mentor/coach? Approachable outside of the structure of the lesson? All of these are factors and may also contribute to the way the students behave towards each instructor.
