Party Planning

Every year, we try to have a simple celebration to celebrate the birthday of our dear princess Ysabela. When she was born, she was diagnosed to have a congenital heart disease called Ventricular Septal Defect. But we are lucky since God made a miracle in our life because the hole in my daughter’s heart is now totally close. So we make it a point to celebrate our daughter’s birthday as a thanksgiving for the precious gift that God gave to our life.

I am not sure what my wife is planning for our daughter’s fourth birthday party. I am usually in the sidelines when it comes to party preparations as my wife always took charge here. My only duty is to look for birthday invitations and to drive my wife when she needs to distribute the party invitations to all our guests.

I am sure my wife has something planned already for my daughter’s fourth birthday party. But hope someday soon, the next party that we will be planning is for our second baby’s baby shower. I already know an online supplier where I can order Invitations Baby Shower so we better act soon for our baby number 2. LOL.

5th Wedding Anniversary

In just a few months, my wife and I will be celebrating our fifth anniversary and I want to have a wedding anniversary party to celebrate the occasion. It will not be as big as our wedding. I just want a simple celebration together with our close friends and relatives so they will be our witness again when we renew our vows.

I proposed to my wife for the second time to ask her if she wants to marry me again. After she said yes, I told her to start looking for anniversary party invitations to give to our friends and relatives whom we will be inviting to celebrate with us. My wife was really thrilled upon hearing my plans and I can see how happy and excited she was because she searched right away for sites where we can order our Wedding Anniversary Invitations.

Hope we will be able to push through with our plans and we will have the budget for our simple celebration and then after that I will start saving up for our 50th wedding anniversary.

Commemorative U.S. Quarter Dollars - 8 More Less

After five years of collecting these coins, I’m glad to have collected 48 out of the 50 states. The remaining are the two illusive states of California and Nebraska. Plus 6 more territories which will be release this year namely District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa and Northern Mariana Islands.

In 2004, Abie and I visited friends in L.A. and invited us to stay in Vegas for two days. While we’re playing the slot machines in Circus Circus, I have won a hundred dollar of quarters. When I’m counting the coins in our room before dinner, I’ve noticed different designs and sorted those and keep them in my bag while the rest I’ve squandered hoping to collect more commemorative quarters.

During my US travels in 2007 and 2008, I have collected several of them. And thanks to our friends Neil and Jacq who even now still sends me my missing ones.

According to Wikipedia, “The 50 State Quarters program became the most successful numismatic program in history, with roughly half of the U.S. population collecting the coins, either in casual manner or as a serious pursuit. The U.S. federal government so far has made a profit of $4.6 billion from collectors taking the coins out of circulation.”

HP DL360 G5 SAS Drives 5 & 6 Could Not Enable Problem

After a grueling week of finding an answer to my problem with two DL360 G5s, I think I’ve finally found the solution.

It says that I need another cable to connect the drives 5 and 6 to the backplane for the RAID to include them in the configuration. The part number is 399546-B21 so I have to place an order right away.

It was a busy weekend for me with a photo shoot yesterday and family day today though I have some errand in Makati. But last week has been an exhausting week configuring G5s. It consumed most of my brain muscles looking for ways to resolve the problem only to find out that a cable is originally not included.

DL360 G5s has six bays available so I inserted 6 pcs. of mini SAS but only drives 1 to 4 were recognized when I’m doing the RAID. I thought it was a firmware issue so I downloaded the firmware maintenance CD which is about 400 MB but still not recognized so I reinstalled again but still fails. Tried using different HP SmartStart versions but still fails, tried installing the OS and hoping to make it enable thru online maintenance but got second thoughts so I stopped the idea.

But today I finally got some pretty good answers from Google. Here are the possible solutions:

The Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal - Manila

If I’m exhausted from a long day of work, I’d just go down at exactly 4:30 to the parking lot in Army Navy Club to change clothes and go jogging around Luneta before my wife arrives from Makati at past five in the afternoon.

Sometimes I’d stopped at the bust sculptures of our heroes and read their tale thru the inscriptions written. Their epitaph would normally tell their role in making our motherland a free nation, their province of origin and basically how trivial their own lives were when freedom and the good of all of us are at stake. But there’s one corner I’d wanted to visit but never got the chance since the night is setting in and you have to spend a little more than few minutes to gaze the area.

On a Sunday, just two days before Rizal’s 112th death anniversary, I’ve drove my wife to office for some overtime work and before heading home while passing Roxas Blvd., I witness a great morning and decided to drop by the park and visit the life size statues of the “The Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal”.

Above are some of my photos. According to the attendant, there is a light and sound presentation of the scenes of Rizal’s last few days from his court trial to writing of Mi Ultimo Adios up to his death but can only be seen during scheduled tours or events.

Rizal’s number one fan is Andres Bonifacio and you can see also his translation of Rizal’s farewell poem in Tagalog entitled “Pahimakas ni Dr. Jose P. Rizal” and which both icons are my hero in their fidelity to our beautiful country though what we’ve become are not within their expectations. But I’m always hopeful that our nation will be a great country again and our people will be industrious again, environment-caring again, law-abiding citizens again, well-mannered youth again, respectable parents again, independent, intelligent, loyal, honest and God fearing people...

And when my grave by all is no more remembered,

Happy Howie - Living A Positive Life

Getting to really know myself for over three decades is a very long journey but I have no regrets because I have seen so many signs and experienced so many things that says “And So I Am is A Happy Man and Will Be More Happier.”

I have projected that I’m no longer a career man firsthand but a journeyman gearing towards independence. Three years ago on my 30th birthday, I said to my wife that I’m retiring from office work at the age 40 and you can see how worried she was and until now when I brought that issue. But I believe if I work hard enough to achieve self sufficiency that will someday change the mood. Even I was afraid of letting go of my career in an early stage and while I’m almost at the top but I am determined to achieve my goal even before I reached that age. But definitely a good paying job is an added advantage, so we’ve agreed that I can achieve my objectives and still can count on my paychecks.

Three years ago, we’ve acquired an asset where its income and a little from our salary goes to the bank for three straight years but now paying for our other expenses. We planned to acquire another one this year so it’s a hunting year for us.

Four years ago, we’ve purchased a big lot with a house but we haven’t really developed it yet though we have a little money coming from a small venture we have there, we planned to develop it into a private resort next year (the way I see it) that can provide us more help paying our expenses.

My goal for my family is to have our expenses be taken cared of by whatever assets we have and the other income that we can get will make our savings. It’s not easy dealing with payables; it’s full of sacrifices and hard work but when you see your balance sheets having more income than liabilities, what a nice thing to whisper to your wife, “Will you marry me again? Pick a hotel, make arrangements and let’s celebrate our happiness.”

If you see me doing other things in my free time, studying, listening, making business, making profits and yet still taking the jeepney ride, it means I’m not rich or wealthy, I’m just happy…

Pretzzy Saturday

After giving a short inspirational message yesterday to graduating 13-year old kids, I’ve gotten a very warm reception from the audience including the Mayor of Manila. I couldn’t be happier than seeing those kids responding to me and my exploration of their energetic and full of fun lives.

But today my daughter surprises me most; I guess it’s one of the best rewards after motivating a number of young minds on how to be successful and how do you really measure it. We’re at the sala and I’m browsing the Internet in our laptop and she’s watching Playhouse Disney when she asks for her pretzel’s merienda.

So I ask our new yaya to get it from her stocks and ask her to go have her lunch and I’ll take care of Bela for now. Mom is in the office so my daughter and I have a little bonding time. Then she walks beside and told me that she wants to share the pretzels with me. So I get one stick and bite some but she stops me and told me, “No, no, not that way, dad.” And she gets another stick and put the tip of the stick in her mouth and the other end in mine. I’ve seen this before when she and her mom eats spaghetti, but never tried with me.

So I got exited and brought down my camera to get some snapshots…

A few days ago, I was invited by my grade school Alma Mater to be the guest speaker for this year’s graduating class in April.

It’s going to be an exciting activity for me delivering a speech in front of young audiences which I haven’t done for quite a while now. It’ll be my second time to grace my school with my new experiences or thoughts to share.

Eager to obtain their attention, I’m doing a little research of this generation, of what are their favorite games, activities, boy bands, dance moves, movies, superheroes and etc. Looking for better ideas and ways to be effective to my audiences, I also came across a website called write-out-loud.com and the tips are easy to learn, concise and very helpful.

I want it this time be delivered in Tagalog to better inject some humor and great stories because I planned to share my personal stories when I was at their age and at present. I’ll also impart the lives of some personalities to uplift their soul with encouragement and inspirations.

Right now, I’m making my draft while my daughter is playing around as "Bela the Pretty Mouse Not the Eewie Eewie One" and her mom is the "Neigh Neigh Horse" and I'm the "Christmas Deer"...

Extending Super Sunday - A Not So Distant Possibility

Can we extend Sunday for few more hours at least? How I fancy but I believe we can, I strongly believe I can!

Our daughter is growing fast; she’s so full of energy, very charming, very friendly and so eager to learn. We bought her tons of books even when she’ll still in utero and never thought she’d open them because of her interest with television and Disney movies. But now she’s reading on her own, at three years old while I’m also reading my book before bedtime.

There are days when we can complete ten books a night before going to sleep not counting the books she’ll ask us to read for her in daytime. This morning she ask me help her color her dolphins and butterfly and was proud to tell her grandma what she did with Dad’s help.

Yesterday, she helped me cleaned her aquarium and was talking to the fishes that they’ll be OK upon seeing them almost dying because it took me a long time to clean it and put back their oxygen.

Today she attended her make-up ballet class though we were there yesterday for her regular; she still delighted us staying in the room even while we’re outside peeping through the glass window.

Just before bedtime, she finished her homework of letters P and J for her Galileo class tomorrow and asks for more to do. So her Mom put out another book for her to trace letters but her love for animals is always there as she'd ask us to draw the animals from that book.

I have a plan to extend it, not today, but definitely have a plan to make it possible. It’s hard leaving our child for five days early in the morning to go to work but it’ll be harder if we haven't got any.

I believe that I am focused and my plans are still far from reality but still, I'm holding on to them... For our baby love...

Passing CSP - A Second Shot

“Failure inspires winners. And failures defeats losers.” This line I read from a book of Robert Kiyosaki which is one of my inspirations this year.

I was pleased to know that I have passed my exam and now a CSP but it will have no meaning if I cannot uphold the standards of this great institution I am part of. So in accepting this title, I hope to be able to contribute in my own way to the advocacy of PSIS in making security awareness and education a responsibility of all of us in different fields of businesses or line of work.

Passing the exam on my second shot is always a good experience. It teaches me to be humble as Mr. Ramon Bergado, one of our best instructor used to say, “The key to my success in life is humility and I'm sharing it to you so you'll also be successful in all of your endeavors."

CSP Retake - Study Before Leisure

It's been a very busy month for me working in the office while others are enjoying the holidays but I’ll be having my vacation with my family in a couple of days in the Island of Samal, so I don’t feel bad.

I just feel exhausted.

And when we return next week, I got to retake my CSP exam of PSIS because I flanked my first try last June and never got the chance to take it with so many projects and activities. I’m busy right now reviewing my old notes and reading a book by one of my mentor, Eduardo Fulgencio - CPP/CFE/CSP/CSMS. His book is “Security Management – Principles, Techniques and Applications” which he published in 2005.

Hope to pass it this time.

Birthday Surprise - From Mom and Bela

About Me

My childhood revolves in a small town in Sorsogon where I spent most of my time in an adventure phase from morning till dark until my family moved to Manila when I was 9 but always went back during summer and Christmas until my college years.

Aside from managing more than 20 servers, supporting a thousand users and maintaining more than 800 machines, I work in an International Organization where diverse personalities are ordinary and service is the soul of its existence.

My wife Abie and daughter Ysabela loves to travel so I always carry my camera making sure I captured those precious moments...

I feel that my passion for photography is innate because I see myself as an artist with an eye for extraordinary moment. I provide photography services for any event when I’m free on weekends.

I love collecting all sorts of things which I find unusual and significant to my life and to my family…

Pascual Madrid Laguerta - The Greatest Boxer

It’s past four in the afternoon and its beginning to get dark early, fishermen are getting their bangca and gears ready for the night catch and students were walking on their way home to Bisita while I’m busy playing with my toy, an old bicycle wheel which used to be my dad’s.

Dad used to be a grade school teacher at Boton, the next baryo from us if you’re going to Matnog or Casiguran. We have cousins there and a small rice field which my dad, uncle and older brothers used to toil during summer and harvest time. He uses his bicycle everyday and be back for lunch meal with the family and ride again for the afternoon class and arrived home before five. Classes back then were held from morning till three or four in the afternoon where you can join the flag raising as well as the flag retreat ceremonies.

On weekends, if he’s not busy finishing our concrete house which he build by himself and some friends help for minor jobs, he takes us to the sea which is 20 minutes boat ride from our house. Across the street from our house is a suba leading to Sorsogon Bay on the west side and to Plaza on the east end. We used to have a bonoan where these long bamboos are place in the ground underwater and fishnets all over it allowing small openings for the fishes to be trapped. If not him, somebody harvests the fishes for us which we get percentage of the cash earned from selling them in the market. He used to have a strong arms to do all this work. Our house became a shelter for all sorts during typhoons. It can accommodate most of our neighbors, their pigs and chickens, dogs and cats and sometimes carabao. And we kids loved the typhoon season where we all sleep together, listen to stories, listen to radio and eat hot porridges.

But this night is one of the unforgettable days of my childhood. I can see my dad with his bike and parked it. I can see someone talking to him and then he walked away briskly and sometimes run, so I never got to say hello to him. But I followed him and some others are also following his path. So I was wondering why the commotions and the next thing I knew, we’ve walked for less than five minutes to reach a house of distant cousin and saw him in front of the door and when it opens, he knocked the man down with a single punch.

In my mind, I’m still confused and he went back to the house and I was catching him but people started gathering and talking what just happen. The following hour, we are in a hospital in Casiguran where my mom was admitted. She suffered a heart attack because of the people who are jealous of her public and civic achievements. These people remain the same until we left our hometown for a life in Manila.

A year after, we all transferred to the new schools in the main town of Sorsogon to continue our studies. The following year, my dad tried his luck to middle-east as an OFW and we moved to Manila following my brother while he attends his high school in the seminary in Makati.

Those people who hurt our family did not leave long - they soon died few years after we left. I guess life made a joke on them and may they rest in peace. Our family will always remain a Sorsoganon for our lives will never be same without those memorable moments that made us happy and the struggles that she brought us to make us strong.

That night will always remain as the greatest fight I have ever seen. You will always be our hero and strength and my personal inspiration.

Happy 66th birthday, Papa! We love you!

Mon Santos & Video48 - Quezon City

I may have collected a dozen of video rental membership cards over the years and until now I still have a few of them.

I remember to be a client of some popular shops like ACA and Video City from different locations though you’ll be ask of your address and billing records but if you know somebody who lived in that area, it’s easy to get one. And through time I think they lessen the requirements with the emergence of pirated copies.

Last Saturday, I brought my family to Video48 to claim my FPJ shirt prize and bought another one and several FPJ movies. This shop has withstood the passing of time but still holds a pleasant environment for people who buy and rented movies with a cheerful staff and great customer service. I never got to meet the owner but just seeing his shop, you can instantly sense his personality, a true aficionado of the art of motion pictures.

Aside from tons of movie files, he also has a great toy collection in his shop most notably Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. I learn from his staff that he's collection is extended up to the third floor. I did not pay much attention on the rest of things there except for FPJ movies but I’ll be back for sure to check them out…

Cafe Monaco "Best Korean Bibimbop" - Quezon City

I don't know any Korean except for Grace Lee of my favorite morning radio show of Magic 89.9’s Good Times with Mo, Mojo and Grace Lee. But what we discovered in Banawe, Q.C. thru a friend-couple is Korean food at its best at Café Monaco

I really love their Bibimbop and Kimchi because it reminds me of home where my dad would always cook spicy food as part of our daily life in Bicol and in Manila. Our family loves it there as if you’re in a resto in New York with its ambience and gloominess before their renovations a couple of months ago where lights were all over the place.

But anyhow, it’s the food that matters. We also love their crepe, tapsilog and our daughter’s favorite, noodles soup. After her swimming classes at Ace Water Spa, also in Banawe, you can always find us there eating merienda or dinner. Even after office we drove there coming from Makati and Roxas Blvd just to satisfy our cravings. Sometimes before heading home coming from Greenhills on weekends.

It’s just the third building from the corner of Retiro and Banawe streets if your coming from Retiro-Araneta.

I have lesser words to say about “His Airness” and the Bulls for it have been shown and written a million times.

What I can do is share them to you in a package. The answer to the question why we rarely see MJ’s figures is because he is basically tied-up with Upper Deck and he’s now one of their executives.

Upper Deck released several MJ figures but one stands out, his 1998 Finals winning last shot against Russell of Utah after stealing the ball from Malone. The Dynasty DVD set a complete compilation of one of the greatest franchise in NBA history capturing 6 titles in 8 years.

Even I was privilege enough to see them play in Washington which they made it a no-contest even at the end of two quarters. But as fast as they were, their legendary games will always be remembered as one of the celebrated moments in NBA with their last seconds’ heroics and a barrage of threes and magnificent passes.

Are you a ghost fighter fan? If you own a Vincent figure, I might want to buy it since I already have Eugene, Dennis and Alfred.

Back in college, my best friend used to go home early on Wednesdays which is uncommon since we used to play cards all the time behind the walls of Intramuros. One time, I went with him and found out that their house is full packed with his cousins and brothers and their friends watching Ghost Fighter on channel 13.

Here I found out that he’s addicted to this anime series translated in Tagalog which in time has attracted me as well. I used to watch similar genre way back in grade school but that has change during my high school days where I’m into action-adventure-sci-fi type.

Yu Yu Hakusho (Ghost Files) is a Japanese manga series original during the 90's and conquered the Filipino kids in the late 90's. I never got to finish the last few episodes since I got preoccupied again with other stuff but I got the means now to buy the complete movie, perhaps this coming year and if lucky enough somebody would sell me Vincent. Please !?!

The Coolest Site for FPJ Fanatics

I'm so happy yesterday because I found the coolest site that I'm pretty sure will forever be a fan of. Being one of the millions of FPJ fanatics, finally, somebody has shared tons of great images, stories and memorabilias of the “King” of Philippine movies.

Simon Santos of Video48 has created a blogsite that you would not want to miss visiting everyday and even just clicking on an image will surely suffice your day. For me, I’m proud to say that being a Filipino is also being an FPJ-Die-Hard...

I have a small collection also of his movies, photos and posters but Mon has a monumental compilation that he shares wholeheartedly to us. And if you’ll visit this site, it is only fitting to give him that respect in using his resources.

And as I said, being so excited and all, I’m still awake until 2AM just to join his trivia contest on Da-King’s movie life. And today, he sent me an email that I won one of the five shirts with FPJ on it. Can’t wait to go at his shop but I’m stuck with work so maybe this Saturday, I’ll drop by and perhaps buy more stuffs…
