The date is June 21. Summer is a state of mind. My summer begins when the temperature goes up and the Tomatoes, Squash and Eggplant are ready to come off the vine. Sure it gets hot but it brings back memories of swimming in the creek, making ice cream and chasing the fireflies. Monmouth Plantation will take you back to those simple pleasures! Today you can go to the day spa across the street instead of the creek and have a gourmet dessert while watching the fireflies in the garden. Give us a ring and find your summer at Monmouth. Gourmet Package – Moonlight, Candlelight, History and Cuisine

This package includes a two night stay in deluxe accommodations, Hors d’ Oeuvres and Dinner for 2 at the Chef’s Table in the Dining Room of the Antebellum Mansion. Also included is a personal guide for a tour of 3 antebellum mansions in Natchez, the most historic city on the Mississippi River.

Upon arrival guests will be greeted and escorted to their room where Chilled Champagne, Chocolates and Flowers await their arrival. That evening guests gather in the dining room for hors d’ Oeuvres and wine, a host/hostess will give a history of the Antebellum Home. Dining under 17th century chandeliers on the Empire table with beautiful china, silver and first class service is the highlight of this package. The Chef will greet each guest and invite culinary conversation. After dinner drinks featuring the southern signature drink “Mint Julep” will be served in the Study nightly. A private hot air balloon ride over Natchez is the featured activity in this package.

Below is a note written by John Quitman describing produce and flowers in bloom. At Monmouth the azaleas are beginning to bloom and soon the grounds will be bursting with the colors of spring.

…On the table we had green peas, lettuce, radishes, artichokes, new potatoes, and spinach, grown in the open air, and roses, jessamines, jonquils, and pinks in profusion. What a delightful climate! The peach and plum are in full bloom, and the birds sing merrily in the honeysuckles around my bedchamber.
