A challenge to Kingdom Keeper readers....

A Challenge to Readers (and no, this is NOT Steel Trapp!):
For my most thorough readers out there...

Please list two or three sentence descriptions of the main characters, including Amanda and Jez, from the first two KINGDOM KEEPER books, including their ages or grades in school and their looks.

Then list the "encounters" by attraction or location by book: example, in KK1, Finn meets Wayne on the bench by the Main Street hub; Finn and Wayne run into the pirates stealing the Buzz Lightyear cars... etc. DO THIS FOR BOTH BOOKS.

You can post your answers here, or send them as a WORD (.doc, not .docx) document to ridleyp@sbcglobal.net.

OKAY, one cautious word of warning to those dedicated readers of WILD RIDE:
there are rumors the Overtakers have found out about me and may not want me publishing book 3. I'm told they may go to ANY LENGTHS to stop me from publishing the book. So stay tuned to the blog. I hope this doesn't mean anything bad for me....

Kingdom Keepers is a Winner!

It's official!!

The Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark (Book 1) has won the Florida SSYRA award for grades 6-8.

What an honor to win the Sunshine State Young Readers' Award -- I'm THRILLED. The award is voted on by students all over the state of Florida, so if you're one of those students THANK YOU so much! I'll be traveling to Orlando to accept the award at the end of September, and may do a book signing in one of the parks as well.

Again, thanks to all the Florida readers who voted for the book. YES!!!

Plans and Stuff

There are some fun ideas and plans happening, and keep checking the blog because I will tell you as I hear/decide anything. I hope to add fun stuff to the web site shortly ( a month or so ) and I think I will know more about books tours, etc. (ANYONE is welcome at my adult, crime novel book tours, so you don't have to wait for a YA book to publish.)

I will definitely be appearing in St Louis, Houston and Scottsdale, AZ June 30-July 3, so keep an eye on appearances page.

Also, Dave Barry and I will be signing and appearing at the Book Expo of America in New York in late May (a month away!), and I will also be signing advanced reader copies of KK3 at the BEA, so if you have a favorite bookstore you might mention the signings.

I'll be posting the early chapters of KK3 soon to site, so keep coming back.

Dave and I will be doing a big tour for Peter and the Sword Of Mercy, including a trip to Disney World, and I imagine I'll be doing some kind of tour for Steel Trapp 2... so there should be a lot of chances to catch up with you. Dave and I will also sign at Disneyland (we think) in early September.

Anyway... just wanted to let you know it'll be a busy few months ahead, and I hope to get a chance to meet with you (wonderful) readers!

I've been part of the Shanghai Literary Festival, and the Beijing Literary Festival, here in China and busy with a copyedit on Steel Trapp 2. I'm told we're getting closer to a cover for KK3: Disney In Shadow (August, 2009), and as soon as I have something to show, I'll post it.

Register for the monthy newsletter, and if you have a friend who might be interested in any of the books, have them register as well.

Big Plans

Although I've only just finished KK3, and have yet to even THINK about KK4, I have big plans for your involvement with KK5 (possibly the last book in the series). How many of you would want to have almost DAILY (chapter by chapter) input on what happens in one of the books, would participate regularly in contributing to the story, and would tell your friends to join the project?

Run Through

I was able to see an entire dress rehearsal run through of the play last night. It was so impressive. I'm excited for everyone to see it. I wish you could all be there this weekend. If you get ANY chance to come San Diego in the next four weeks, YOU MUST. It is THAT good!

Act 2

I was able to see the second act of Peter and the Starcatchers -- the stage play -- last night, and while Disney has asked I not review or give anything away about the performance (this is a workshop after all) what I can say is WOW! Rick Elice's script has brought the book alive in a funny, thoughtful and heartfelt way. More details to come. Tonight I get to see the whole play -- both acts. And then a dress rehearsal tomorrow night! Public performances begin on Friday night.

Where do you see KK4?

I realize you have not read KK3 -- but let's assume it's nearly complete, and that it takes place primarily in Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Let's assume that most of the Kingdom Keepers are still alive by the end of book 3. As a reader, where would you like to "go" in KK4, and why? (think Disney parks, near and far; think Disney Cruises; Disney On Ice...)

Okay... I'm reading all your suggestions about the Overtakers in Epcot. Some of them WERE ALREADY IN THE BOOK (great minds think alike!). You'll be able to hunt them down when the book comes out. SOME ARE SO GOOD and ORIGINAL I may still find a way to use them as part of the remaining story! So please keep 'em coming! It's fun to have your input...

If you saw "romance" or at least a pretty big "crush" between any of the KKs (including Amanda and Jez), how would you "pair" up the characters and why, and which of the remaining characters would be jealous or "challenge" the way you've paired up the characters? (this blog will not tolerate "off-color" or "suggestive" remarks, so keep it clean or you'll be banned.)
