I love everything in my life to be lovely. You're thinking, who doesn't, right? But sometimes people dont care about the really small things that i do. It can actually be very annoying that i care so much. Its not that im picky, its just that i love to be surrounded by pleasing things (beautiful or purposefully ugly, they must be pleasing) all the time. People don't care about

shower caps. In fact, i don't understand how some people dont even have shower caps. Thats so impractical and strange. Okay, what do you put on your head to take a body shower? If i dont put anything then the humidity will fill my hair and enter my scalp and then i'll feel disgusting and sticky. Ew! And i cant take a very good shower because i wouldnt want to wet my hair and then i wont feel squeaky clean. Ew again! Thats why people wear shower caps. An

d somehow it makes me feel happier to wear a white cotton lace-covered shower cap than one of those transparent hotel ones. So i started looking on the internet for nice ones and here's what i found. Many weeds, veery few nice showercaps

This is for one of those "dark" days when you're sad and angry and you need to take a shower and already feel like you're covered with a black cloud of dangerous thoughts and then you go all "let me put on my black lace showercap" and feel dangerous!

This is the window guy who replaced their million-year-old window with a new white aluminium one.

This is Beans wearing my favorite white headphones to block out the noise of the "9aroo5".

Remember, they weren't actually sleeping in this room, even though this is officially their room. They just kept all their tons upon tons of STUFF there (I an proud, however, of how i fixed the STUFF (everything from 6 shampoo bottles each to 10 boxes of discount dinner sets!) problem). Fixing it up was more work than i expected but it was so much fun! And now their room is so sweet and pretty and organized. Coming soon!

#8: THE PENGUINS

I haven't been to the Scientific Center since.. God knows when but was very surprised to see the place absolutely packed yesterday! My two cousins and i went to the see the newly-arrived penguins yesterday and had a blast. I had already seen them in their natural habitat in South Africa. So cute. It all started with igloo ice cream, then Happy Feet and suddenly penguins are the new Habba. Thats it.

There's even this foam cut-out thing (you know the kinds where you stick your head in the hole and take a picture?) and they built a viewing platform for visitors. We sat and waited like idiots thinking there was going to be a show.

We also watched Galapagos at the IMAX. Such a good film. But they cut it right at the most interesting part and after we waited 10 minutes they said it was due to "technical difficulties". And we didnt get to watch the rest. Sucks. Im so going back though. The crowd, OMG!!! Seas of mitna8bat in 3D glasses with their families of eight, throwing popcorn and screeeeeeeeaming at the top of their lungs! And spiky haired, fisfori-wearing geezies and yogurt cups (??) All the kids were grabbing at the air (li2ana 3D) and kicking the chairs in front of them and their parents had no more respect (please dont ask if they shut them up). This kid next to me kept screaming "YUBAAAA 6ALI3 BA7AAAAAR YUBA BA7AR!!!!!! ABBAAAAI IL SIMACH YAY 3INDY!! DHUB DHUB YUBAA 6ALI3!!! 6ALI3 HATHY IL BNAYA ILI GA3ID TAMSHY SHIFTHAAAAAA?? AGOOLIK HATHYY... SHGA3DATSAWY AL7EEEEN???" Good God, i wanted to wrap her up in duct tape and throw her somewhere. I told the father very politely that i was trying to listen to the movie and he said "oshhh" once and never paid attention again as the kid continued with her loud commentary.

Speaking of loud kids, we entered the aquarium. Comepletely ignoring the DO NOT TOUCH WINDOWS signs the kids were banging on the windows (about the fish "3abood: LAISH MA YIT7ARAAAK?? 7amood: NAYIM NAYIM! GAWMA YALLA!") and running around playing catch as their parents shoved their camera flashes at the tank windows with the staff's consent. We then entered the large viewing room (the one with the sharks) and there were three Indian kids. One of the funniest displays of idiot kiddery that i've ever seen. There were three little kids: one (Ashoo) was 1 cm taller than the other girl and boy. All of them were banging on the glass and screaming as their parents sat. Ashoo make the smaller boy stand against the seats so he could take a picture. (Not against the fish la7thaw).

Ashoo: Stand straight! Put your legs together! Noo nooo not like that! Head straight. okay. i will take a pictuh. Dont move!! (he holds up his phone) *chik* Again!! *chik* This is horrible its too daak in here!!

run around, pushing each other. Suddenly nisma3 smaller boy "F*** you!" Girl "hahah no F*** you!" Ashoo and comes and pushes them all "F*** you!!" and this goes on for a while wil ahal mo mla7theen waaala shay. Ana o my cousins ba6eenha thi7ik! It was so ridiculous and it didnt help that the kids were so cute. They start climbing all over their parents (who are infront of us) and sticking their shoes in our faces and falling all over us. Screaming "DADDY ASHOO IS BEATING ME!!" Ashoo: "Shut up! A shark will eat you! Oh look, i found a CAAVE! (ya3ni the control room behind the pillar or whv that thing is) and they all start running toward the cave. Then the smaller boy falls. "AAAAAAAAAH DADDY I FELL!!!"

and his father: "Lion King Lion King, be strong!"

Oh hahahahahahhahahahahah. Gotta love em! Ill take the Scientific Center over Avenues anyday!

I got my Experiment One bag a long time ago but i was too lazy to post the pics. They told me that they buy the brass and have their parts manufactured specifically for their bags. Thats really cool.

The bag arrived perfect except for one tiny detail: the sewing on one side of the handle (not the bag!) came undone. It was barely noticeable (I wouldnt have noticed it if i wasn't such a perfectionist when it comes to details). But immediately upon being informed, the girls came, picked it up and had it ready in less that 24 hours. Thats professionalism.

The pattern was laser-cut into the leather. I really like it because it looks like a traditional pattern masking a cool, cyber-bug. Right?

The lining is great, spot on. This is uncommon among first-time bags.

Experiment One: Major Success

First of all, i must apologize for the picture quality. I was skyping with Perry when my mother came in and told me yalla hurry up lets go i dont have time. (The driver is on vacation so im basically a prisoner in my own home). So i forgot my camera.

Let me say: BRAVO! These 3 Kuwaiti architects of Experiment One really made an impression on me tonight. I have never (and i mean it) seen this kind of creativity, quality and simple forwardness in design in any Arab fashion product.

Ya3ni sorry bes i know lots of handbag design companies and stuff from around the Middle East and il9ara7a i never bought (even though they are not so expensive) because i immediately reject something itha mo 3ajibny 100%. Quality and finish is very important to me, not only

"how it looks"and "styla". Last summer wayid kan 3ajibny clutch 3ala one of my friends and i went to the store in Libnan to buy and i looked inside and the lining wasnt professional. The stitching was a bit wonky and the zipper looked a tad cheap. Also the leather didnt feel soft. This stuff is very important. It is necessary that the bag closes right, that it feels smooth, generous, professional, elegant. That is the making of a designer bag. If i want something not done properly, i could go to H&M and take it to Barakat and have them put some crystals on it.

--This Linear bag looks fantastic on tall girls (It actually looked really good on me, but after not realizing how much my "extreme makeover" for the nannies' room would cost, i settled on just one) and the clunky wood is makes it hang really straight.--

One of the girls told me that as recently graduated architects working in fields without too much majal for creativity, they decided to spend their creative energy on designing something. For this "experiment" it was bags. They were innovative and simple. They were not overly "designed" or pretentiously "conceptualized". They served their function as bags perfectly. They close and open smoothly, the leather is soft (though i wish it would be softer) and they carry well.

This Cross bag is really soft and loveable. You can carry it long on your shoulder or take it by the handle. The brass connector parts are engraved with their elegant logo.

This origami bag made of a wonderful rubber fabric. It's huge and looks like a fabulous wonton. The picture does it no credit, its actually folded very dramatically. It is light and holds all your life in it perfectly. Fuctionality and design work together seamlessly. All of the stuff is made in Kuwait (PROPS!) and the girls put it together. Dont worry, it is all of a superior quality. They source some of the stuff from outside but most of their materials come from Kuwait. They obviously worked tirelessly to perfect their product and told me that they didn't display many of their bags tonight because they were not satisfied with their quality.

I loved this one the most and i ordered it in maroon and black. All brass or copper parts are made by THEM and the leather had a gorgeous laser-cut pattern on it. All were sold out and now i have to wait two weeks :(. Sucks. You can choose from many leather colors and types of wood (oak/mahogany/walnut).

See how this wood at the top of a small chain-handle clasp bag of theirs has a carved wooden frame? Beautiful. This is the kind of detail you expect from real luxury goods designers.

Extreme Makeover: Nanny's Room Edition

HEY GUYS! We have so much to catch up on (but thats another post). I am so excited. We have two nannies' rooms: the upstairs one and the downstairs one.

The downstairs one is their real room but it was so bad that they haven't used it for years and it became a sort of storage room for all their dinner sets and giant shipping containers. I, (make-over fanatic that i am) decided i want to gut it out and make the whole thing over so they can actually sleep in it again. Dont worry, it doesnt look that small in real life and they have a huge 9ala upstairs.

So one day, i whipped out the wa9eet and started calling window repair men and painters and carpet people. Actually, i felt like such an idiot, i was going through the wa9eet looking for window guys and kept coming across Al-Manyoom, which i though was a family name (ya3ni the name of the company) and i was so annoyed that this one company seemed to have twenty billion ads on one page and i couldnt find another company! How stupid i felt when i realized that the ads actually said Aluminium! Hahahahahah

See how ugly it is? Almost everything's gona go! I am half way through getting it done now (things are going fast im so happy il7amdillah), will post pictures as soon as its finished inshallah! Stay tuned!

Azza Fahmy is the ultimate. Her work 9ij mat3oob 3alaih. Its gorgeous, bold and a million times more elegant than any other jewelry i have seen in my life. Honestly, i am ridiculously loyal to her. Her jewelry is the product of honest research, talent, taste and Ottoman Empire-levels of craftmanship (really, she uses their three-tier apprentice system). Her designs are 100% Arab, 100% unique and 100% Azza Fahmy. You need no logo to recognize her phenomenal work, her superb craftmanship. Her jewelry takes on no western slant, no internationaljetset-pleasing tones. Her work is deeply married to the beauty of her imagination.

An effortlessly elegant and distinctly Egyptian wide turquoise bracelet. (Some may argue and say it has Phoenician elements but i say Egyptian)

This one is a mother's day bangle inscribed with Arabic poetry in her signature style of calligraphy.

Even though i dont wear rings i think her superb minimalism with these stack rings is irresistable. I am so sick of seeing those stupid rope bracelets with little "3yoon" on them or stupid "Hamsa's" (ya3ni 5amsa 5maisa :) ) on chains. This is real jewelry, not some silly little excuse which US Weekly spot on some useless "star" and label "cute and ethnic".

These brooches seem to be ancient yet at the same time markedly futuristic. An elegant human would wear them in Planet of the Apes, you know what i mean? Anyway, these were part of her collaboration with Julian McDonald. I was invited to the opening event after i bought my ncklace in Cairo but we were leaving that same day so.. sucks.

Classic Azza. Simple. Brilliant.

After Sharm last summer, i became monstrously sick due to food poisoning on the day that we were gona travel (im talking drips and injections here). We stopped in Cairo for a few hours and i was dead set on going to Azza Fahmy's shop. Upon entering, I spend an infinity ogling the gorgeous jewels inside their glass display cases, mystified by these fantastical objects. My mother and I especially loved a beautiful necklace with yellow gold, white gold and onyx. It felt so anciently modern (see? Azza Fahmy needs her own phrases). Upon wearing it, i felt divine, ethereal, different. That is what great jewelry does to you. It is a sudden, springing amplification of you features, your bearing. It felt so regal. All traces of my illness faded like i was lying the whole time. I love you Azza.

I am, as i have stated previously, a water child.

It is something biological. Hard-wired into my system. I am one of those human beings who are, by some powerful force of nature drawn to water irresistably. It is completely out of my control. When it starts raining cats and dogs outside in March, dancing around in the 7osh is taken for granted. When it rains on a pool you bet i am going to jump in. My greatest love is running water and giant plate-like showers.I first heard of Gerard Gay as i was reading a discarded Costes magazine while packing up in Paris. I ripped out the page and then stupidly didnt take it with me. Spent all of today googling "Pool. designer. gay/ swimming pools gay francois/henri/etc" and so please imagine what kind of stuff came up. His pools are so natural, gorgeous and perfect that i was almost crying with longing as i looked through his website gallery. I want a house with that kind of nature where i can place a gorgeous harmonious pool!! Aaaaaaaaaaah. Anyone who has a pool designed by him please be my friends and invite me over. They are perfect. You know that feeling when you first marvelled at water's meniscus? When the surface tension is broken? When a shade of a natural body of water is so perfect (that incredible transparent light mossy/emerald green) that you want to just put it in your mouth like a candy?

His pools reach those levels of natural perfection. the pictures speak for themselves so i'll shut up now.

Allaaaaah.. look at how the rainy water spills so softly into the smaller pool. Offfff...

I have adored Justin Giunta's jewelry for his Subversive line since... i first started reading magazines? Anyways, i first fell in love with his Sunken Treasure necklaces, i loved the more-is-more pile-on-the-chains, drip drop metal on metal on pearl on crystal Pirate aesthetic. I believe his stuff changes season-to-season, but he never removed his Sunken Treasure collection. Im considering maybe getting one of the necklaces now (or

maybe waiting for next season) but i cant decide which. The ones with the color stones had a bit too much filigree-ish detail for me so these are my faves. Which do you think i should get?

#3: REPETTO

Im sure all of you already know Repetto, but i just wanted to mention how much i adore their Paris store. Opera is one of my favorite areas in Paris (it has such a different feel) and Place Vendome is my absolute favorite place and any street leading from Place de l'Opera to Place Vendome is sure to be filled with wonderful things that make me happy. Repetto is on that very street, Rue de la Paix. The store is quite large and 100% charming, filled with ballerina clothes, shoes and a fantastic array if their super-comfortable classic flats in any style you want. Few shoes are comfortable for me and thats why i really love Repettos. They are so soft and durable that no other ballet flats compare. I prefer them infinitely over London Sole, Pretty Ballerinas, etc.

This is my #2 favorite shade of red. My #1 favorite, "tropical red", is not as versatile, though.

Repetto is located at the side of Rue de la Paix closer to the Place de l'Opera.

Believe it or not i was too busy to the last episode of the fantasticaly overdramatic Gossip Girl until today and i love what Vanessa is wearing here! The blue leopard is just the right amount of kitsch and color to set of her tan magnificently. It would have looked even better with longer hair and the necklace off but this is just super regardless! I do not understand the people who say she's not pretty, i think she's gorgeous; she looks like a amazon-lioness with a perfect complexion! Mashallah.

#4: TOPSHOP

This is a no-brainer. You go to London, you are under 35, of COURSE you go to Topshop. It is so dizzying, so huuuge, so filled with trendy, sparkly, colorful, so you stuff you want, you need, you have to have right now that honestly, who can resist? And their stuff never looks cheap like H&M sometimes.

Wonderful, super miniskirts! My favorite garments on earth. They make me feel free and child-like and happy. The two in the middle were made by Topshop using Liberty fabrics, which are some of my favorite fabrics ever. I could spend hours feeling the cottons on Liberty's top floor.

Tops Oxford Circus have one of the most amazing selections of accessories in all of the world IMO because not only do they have a full range of Topshop's stuff (including GIANT tackbomb crystal necklaces which would look amazing on simple sweaters and neon Union Jack wallets) but they also have toons of other brands like Peekaboo vintage (who have nice hats), Mikey, etc. etc. My cousins called me a geeziya for loving this tiger necklace but they're so elitist and DONT UNDERSTAND ME!! (drama).

This picture is horrendous. These are actually pink. I fell in love with these salmon pink acid washed jeans and haad to get them, not realizing that they were too big. They are the most comfortable jeans i've ever worn. I usually despise wearing jeans cause they're so uncomfortable and am always in skirts and tights. These are truly an exception. And i always adore their Boutique stuff, downstairs for the unknown designers and i really liked a dress that was Barbara Hulanicki (the designer for the original 60s London Biba) for Tops but it emphasized all the wrong parts of body. 7aram though, it was so nice and fluttery with huge detached butterfly sleeves and a great cut.

And looving these right now!

Btw i wasnt gona do a post on Topshop cause ots so obvious until a Chinese woman in Haymarket actually said that she had never heard of it before. 9ar feeny: WHAAAAT???

#3: JAPAN CENTRE AND MINAMOTO KITCHOAN

London is all about Japan and happy Japanese goods with their bright colors, cute cartoons and promise of eternal smiles under the wrappers. Peanut-cartoon themed bento boxes and every Japanese supermarket item you could dream of is in this wonderful supermarket-dreamstore hybrid that is Japan Centre on Piccadilly. They even have that square gum with the round things that they used to bring in Kuwait!

If you go, their custard-filled pancakes are to DIE!!! Sooo good!

For a more refined version of Happy Happy, head over to Minamoto Kitchoan for all sorts of wagashi (japanese confectionaries) and delicious jelly-type bean paste desserts in the sweetest wrappers.

My favorite is the cherry blossom thing. On the outside, it is as soft as a cloud, like you're taking a bite out of a marshmallow whipped in heaven, but a bit heavier. Inside you have this grainy bean cream/paste with an intense and refreshing cherry blossom taste. Alao love their waffle-cookie, or "Fukuwatashi-Senbei". Mmmm to Minamoto!

But i had already overspent the WORLD and so didnt out of respect for my credit card. Their chains, necklaces and accessories are so me i fully expected the store to have my name written on the front. 7asafa i didnt take a picture of their catalog but if you send them your bags or wallets (like Vuitton monogram or Chanel wtv), they will grafitti them in the most incredible way with whatever you choose.
