Everyone should have a friend that makes them feel THIS good. The kind that you feel ridiculously, unreasonably happy to be around. One who doesn't care what you look like, is happy to see you even on a bad day, and you can spend hours talking about anything (or nothing) with. Seriously. With all the distressing things going on, sometimes you just need a reminder that there are good people doing good things in the world. So, i'm going to add a "positive news" page to my blog (coming soon), & start collecting them there. It's the December 29th, 2008 issue, & there is a nice long article by Jim Gorant about the real-life happy ending for alot of these dogs. In case you haven't heard, today is a "Day Without a Gay". From what I've gathered, this is a grassroots campaign intended to demonstrate how vital gay people are to the economy & the community. Gay people are encouraged to not go to work, but to devote the day to volunteer service instead. Here is an excerpt from their website:Laylahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11379288026098093300layla.fowler@gmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31970339.post-49754985603898597902008-10-05T09:51:00.000-07:002008-10-05T18:26:32.811-07:00I want to be Irish!! Back in March he started eating a lot less, lost a lot of weight, & just wanted to sleep all the time. The vet diagnosed him with Feline CRF (kitty kidney failure), & guessed it would only be a couple months. We decided to keep him going with medical treatments, & instead he held out for six months. Aaaaand ReleaseAnyways, what I REALLY wanted to share with you is the most interesting insight I got from this class. Thai massage is like yoga in that you are working at "the edge" of your existing range of motion, but it takes a gentler approach. Once the therapist places you in a posture (that may have seemed unattainable on your own), you are stretched a tiny bit past your existing comfort level. Back in May I had the great opportunity to take a class on Thai Massage with Martin Misenheimer of Zen Thai Massage, shown in the picture at right. Sorry I've been so long out of touch. The short version is, I enjoyed a blissful month off in March, and in April was happy to go back to school and work. We got some great news last week: the pathology report came back after the surgery, & said that the tissue removed was still "pre"-cancerous. Her oncologist was expecting to find active cancer. That may have meant more surgery to remove lymph nodes, & even more chemo treatment, but hopefully we pre-empted all that. The great news is finally(!) mom will get to Laylahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11379288026098093300layla.fowler@gmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31970339.post-84086082220720642472007-11-15T20:33:00.000-08:002007-11-15T22:51:09.998-08:00Howdy from Washington!Hey y'all! If I haven't talked to you recently, the short version is that i'm up in Montesano (near Olympia, Washington) for a few months staying w/my mom. Some of you have witnessed this over the years, but I don't think anyone else appreciates the full extent of how ridiculously lucky I am. Well, something really cool happened last Saturday. I didn't start to get interested in football until about a year ago, but after living in Oklahoma it has rubbed off on me--it's hard not to get swept up in the enthusiasm. Maybe i'm biased because this month is my birthday, but September has always been my favorite month, & autumn is one of my favorite times of year. Something about the hot muggy days of summer easing and the tree leaves turning gets me feeling refreshed & renewed (it's a Virgo thing). That on top of celebrating a birthday feels like the start a fresh new year for me. Leroy Greer of Houston has filed a lawsuit against 1-800-Flowers because he was sending flowers to his mistress & got caught. I don't very often blog about technical stuff, but I came across something really interesting. It's a short video of Google's CEO Eric Schmidt talking about the future of the world wide web, & what web 3.0 is likely to look like. One of my neighbors has a mailbox shaped like an oversized, red and white Sooners helmet. The very next morning after my last post, I drove by to find it had been mysteriously bashed to pieces in the middle of the night. It wasn't just knocked off the post, it was knocked off & into the street, where it was clubbed into about 5 pieces. After this last week i've had, I think the same thing could be said about moving. Especially in the dead heat of the Oklahoma summertime (groannnnn).
