Will Brett Favre play for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings?

This is a big question that many ticket brokers are banking on as most indications say that he will play for the Minnesota Vikings in 2009. As training camps get closer to starting and ticket sales start, ticket brokers are snatching up tickets for the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings games. In some cases, tickets for the game have already been set to over $300.

The bigger question is, Favre hasn’t even signed with the Vikings and isn’t expected to until he has recovered from shoulder surgery. The recover time for the surgery is 6-8 weeks and that puts the recovery time at about Mid to Late July. If he doesn’t have any pain in the shoulder, then he may very well sign with the Vikings. The team has said they will welcome him. Gus Ferrotte and Tavaris Jackson are listed as the current quarterbacks on the team. Ferrotte is a warrior but has taken a beating and Jackson suffers from fumblitis. Having Brett Favre on the team will definitely bring in the revenue for the Vikings and add some stardom to the team.

Stub Hub, where fans can buy and sell tickets, prices have been starting at $308 and some went up to $15,883 for a suite.

Jude Law in Hamlet Broadway Play

It has been announced on June 30 that the Donmar Warehouse production of Hamlet will debut on Broadway September 12th, 2009 for a twelve week commitment at the Broadhurst Theatre starring Jude Law in the title role.

The Director Grandage of Frost/Nixon and Mary Stuart was excited to deliver another Broadway production. They call it a joyful experience to be able to work with Jude Law in such a lively theatre because so many people will get to work with and witness Jude Law’s extraordinary performance.

Hamlet will bring to a close of the show at London's Wyndham's Theatre on August 22. It then travels to Kronberg Castle, Elsinore, on August 25-30. All shows in London and Elsinore are sold out.

These small limited amounts of Hamlet shows officially open on Broadway October 6th. Law will be joined by the Donmar Theatre company of actors from London and Elsinore after those shows have commenced. Complete casting for the New York run will be announced at a later time.

To provide greater accessibility to the shows at a lower cost, Arielle Tepper Madover has said that more than 100 tickets will be priced at $25 at every performance by Telecharge.com and the Broadhurst Theatre box office.

Tickets are available by American Express cardholders on July 1. The theatrical production will be on sale to the general public beginning July 18. Tickets are priced at $25-$116.50.

Fleetwood Mac Concerts for 2009

Fleetwood Mac has announced it is reunited and going out on the road.

The supergroup is launching its tour at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh March 1. The tour coincides with a new greatest hits compilation called Unleashed that contains never before seen footage and previously unreleased tracks.

"We love our band and think the title of the tour, 'Unleashed,'perfectly describes how we all feel when we get on stage together,especially in 2009," the band said in a joint statement. ""We're so happy to get back out on the road, perform everyone's favorite songs and see our fans."

The statement does not list the members, but it's assumed Fleetwood Mac is certainly the famed roll call, with no AWOLs, of Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood and John Mcvie. Christine McVie left the group in 1997 and her name isn't mentioned in the release.

Tickets for the Live Nation-produced tour go on sale Dec. 15. Dates include Chicago, Detroit, Washington D.C., Boston, New York, Montreal and Toronto. The jaunt is completed March 26.

NBA Celtics-Lakers Playoff Championship Finals Tickets On Sale Monday at 2 p.m.

Individual tickets for the NBA Finals (Round 4, Home Games 1 and 2) vs. the Los Angeles Lakers will go on sale Monday, June 2 at 2 p.m. There is a two (2) ticket limit per customer and seats start at just $30 in the Rite-Aid Family Section.

Home Game 1 and Home Game 2 of the NBA Finals are scheduled to be played at the TD Banknorth Garden on Thursday, June 5 at 9 p.m. and Sunday, June 8 at 9 p.m. Further schedule details will be announced on Celtics.com.

Celtics fans will be able to purchase Monday by visiting Celtics.com, by calling 1-800-4NBA-TIX or by visiting the TD Banknorth Garden Box Office or Ticketmaster Outlet. Shrek The Musical Debut

Casting is now complete for Shrek the Musical, which will bound its way into the Broadway Theatre Nov. 8 with an official opening scheduled for Dec. 14.

As previously reported, Brian d'Arcy James, the singing actor who was recently seen in the Off-Broadway musical Next to Normal, will play the title role of the green ogre in the new musical with Cry-Baby's Chester Gregory II as Donkey, Avenue Q Tony nominee John Tartaglia as Pinocchio, Tony winner Sutton Foster (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Young Frankenstein) as Princess Fiona, Christopher Sieber (Monty Python's Spamalot) as Lord Farquaad and Kecia Lewis-Evans (The Drowsy Chaperone) as the dragon.

Shrek, according to a press statement, "is an entirely new musical based on the story and characters from William Steig's book 'Shrek!,' as well as the DreamWorks Animation film." The production will play an exclusive world-premiere engagement at The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle Aug. 14-Sept. 21.

Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole) penned the lyrics and libretto (based on the kid-lit character created by William Steig), and Tony Award nominee Jeanine Tesori (Millie, Caroline, or Change) wrote the music.

DreamWorks Theatricals is co-producing with Sam Mendes' Neal Street Productions Ltd. Jason Moore (Avenue Q and the Carnegie Hall Jerry Springer ? The Opera) is directing.

Josh Prince will choreograph the production, which will feature musical direction by Tim Weil, set and costume design by Tim Hatley, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone and sound design by Peter Hylenski.

Penguins Tickets for Stanley Cup Finals go on sale Wednesday May 21, 2008.

There will be about 1,000 tickets for each of the first two home games of the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals will go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m., the Penguins announced.

The Penguins and the Detroit Red Wings will open the best-of-seven championship series at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Games 1 and 2 will be on Saturday, May 24 and Monday, May 26. The series will then move to Pittsburgh for Games 3 and 4 at Mellon Arena on May 28 and May 31.

The Penguins encourage fans to order online at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets also are available for purchase at the Mellon Arena Gate One Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, or by calling Ticketmaster at 412-323-1919. Lottery systems will be used at the Gate One Box Office and Ticketmaster locations.

Kid Rock and Lynard Skynard Rebels Tour

Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd will team up for a run of co-headlining dates in August, beginning Aug. 8 in Oklahoma City. The shed tour, under the "Rock and Rebels" banner, will feature an opening act still to be announced.

Additionally, Skynyrd has been added to the bill of Kid Rock's May 15 Rock and Roll Revival show at Madison Square Garden in New York, joining Rev Run and Peter Wolf. That show will mark the first time Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Skynyrd, fresh off another co-headlining tour with Hank Williams Jr., has ever played the Garden.

Meanwhile, Rock's Revival runs through Western Canada in July with Rev Run and opening acts Matt Mays and El Torpedo. That tour added July 19, 20 and 22 at DTE Music Center in Clarkston, Mich., with July 19 and 20 sold out and only lawn tickets remaining for the July 22 date. Rev Run and Uncle Kracker are on the Detroit market shows, billed as Rock's "All Summer Long" party.

The Rock and Roll Revival Tour will resume on the West Coast in September with guests still to be announced.

George Michael Concert News

After performing more than 80 shows in Europe, Michael kicks off the U.S. leg of his 25 Live tour in San Diego on June 17 before heading to 19 other cities. The arena tour will showcase songs from his album Twenty-Five, out April 1 and featuring duets with Mary J. Blige and Paul McCartney.

As he prepares to head stateside, "there are some improvements I can really make to the show. If I have anything to do with it, they're going to see the best show of their lives."

Tickets will go on sale Tuesday exclusively via an iTunes package. Tour tickets will be available elsewhere beginning the weekend of April 5.

In addition to performing songs from Starr's hit list--like "With a Little Help from My Friends," "Yellow Submarine" and "It Don't Come Easy"--the All Star Band will play popular tunes from each member's repertoire. Plus, there will no doubt be a good smattering of songs from Starr's new album, "Liverpool 8," which hit stores in mid-January.

The set, Starr's 14th solo studio effort, comprises 12 new tracks co-written and produced by the former Beatle with help from the Eurythmics' Dave Stewart. The title track and a few other cuts from "Liverpool 8" are streaming at Starr's MySpace page.

In addition to traditional pressings, the record is available as a pre-loaded USB wristband including the entire album, a personal video message, behind-the-scenes footage, ringtones, photos, and interview and track commentary from Starr.

Yet Another Life for Maggie the Cat

Those eternal adversaries, irresistible force and immovable object, clash with gusto in the first act of the otherwise flabby revival of Tennessee Williams’s “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” which opened Thursday night at the Broadhurst Theater.

The irresistible part of the equation is embodied most persuasively by Anika Noni Rose as that determined Southern seductress Maggie the Cat. Taking on the immovable duties is Terrence Howard, in his Broadway debut, as Brick, Maggie’s self-anesthetized husband.

Watching Maggie test her will of fire against Brick’s Scotch-glazed shield of ice sends off such lively sparks that for the show’s first 40 minutes or so you wonder if this might not be the most entertaining “Cat” since Elizabeth Ashley had her way with Keir Dullea more than three decades ago. But as any of Williams’s disappointed characters could tell you, life is full of pretty hopes that fade before your eyes.

It’s starting to feel as if “Cat,” first staged in 1955, has become as frequent a visitor to Broadway as “Rigoletto” is to the Metropolitan Opera. The previous revival, starring Ashley Judd, Jason Patric and Ned Beatty, closed only four years ago. But this melodrama of Southern-fried mendacity, Williams’s personal favorite, is blessed with temptingly juicy roles that larger-than-life actors can’t wait to squeeze.

So there was reason to be excited when this latest incarnation, directed by Debbie Allen, was announced. And not, at least for me, because of the novelty of an all-black cast. (By transporting the play from the 1950s and the age of Jim Crow to a later, unspecified decade, Ms. Allen wisely pushes past the issue of race.)

What sounded promising was the matching of performers and roles. James Earl Jones, of the earth-shaking baritone and overpowering stature, as the tyrannical, filthy-rich Big Daddy; Phylicia Rashad, who won a Tony as the long-suffering matriarch in the recent revival of “A Raisin in the Sun,” as his long-suffering wife: it was as if these parts were their birthrights.

Most tantalizing of all was the idea of Mr. Howard as their alcoholic son, Brick. Mr. Howard brought an eye-opening freshness to the perennial screen archetype of the sensitive but manly brooder in his Oscar-nominated turn as a small-time pimp in “Hustle & Flow.” The big question, it seemed, was whether Ms. Rose, hitherto known as an able supporting actress (“Caroline, or Change” and the film version of “Dreamgirls”), would be able to hold her own in such daunting company.

As it turns out, Ms. Rose more than holds her own. She pretty much runs the show whenever she’s onstage, and when she’s not, the show misses her management. Mr. Howard and Mr. Jones have moments that suggest what they might have made (and possibly still could make) of their roles. And Ms. Rashad presents a creditable, if arguably misconceived, Big Mama. But this time it’s Maggie who rules the Pollitt family’s dusty old house of lies.

Ms. Rose’s Maggie is less ornately stylized than earlier versions (including Ms. Ashley’s and Kathleen Turner’s, as well as Elizabeth Taylor’s in the 1958 film), and she more or less ignores Williams’s baroque descriptions of the character’s changes in timber and tempo. But what Ms. Rose grasps, with riveting firmness and clarity, is Maggie’s hard-driving sense of purpose.

Maggie, as you may recall, has an exceptionally clear through line for a Williams character. She has to make her husband, long absent from her bed, have sex with her again. This is because: 1) she really loves him; 2) a woman has her needs; 3) if she doesn’t conceive a child, it’s possible that the estate of the terminally ill Big Daddy will go to his other son, Gooper (Giancarlo Esposito), who has an annoyingly fertile and conniving wife (Lisa Arrindell Anderson).

It’s the hot-and-bothered aspect of Maggie that originally made “Cat” a succès de scandale. But it was her unyielding will to survive that most interested Williams.

Though Ms. Rose wears a slinky slip as beguilingly as Ms. Taylor did, it’s her take-charge energy and unembarrassed directness that make this Maggie such a stimulating presence. When she exclaims, “Maggie the cat is alive!,” you can only nod in admiring agreement.

The play’s first act has always been Maggie’s, an aria of insistence and supplication directed at Brick, who, having broken his leg, is a captive audience. But what a perfect audience Mr. Howard’s Brick is here, doing his best (and understandably failing) to tune out a wife who keeps prodding open wounds — like his suspicious closeness to his best friend, Skipper.

Brick is often played in the first act with robotic disaffection. Mr. Howard is more visibly amused, disgusted and drunk than any Brick I’ve seen. You’re always aware that the click into numbness he aspires to has yet to arrive, lending a livelier than usual dynamic to his avoidance of Maggie.

The problem is that by the second act, when Big Daddy and Brick confront the truth together, Mr. Howard is wearing his character’s pain all too palpably, mopping his eyes and tearfully bleating his lines. This turns Brick into a wounded little boy instead of the willfully numbed creature he must be to challenge Big Daddy into anger.

As a consequence Mr. Jones is forced to play his character as a blustery but affectionate fellow whose vulgarity masks a good heart, not so different from the lovable codger he recently portrayed in “On Golden Pond.” Ms. Rashad, in turn, seems to grow in supportive strength and mother-knows-best wisdom. The production acquires a haze of sentimentality that makes it soft when it should be sharp.

The same might be said of Ms. Allen’s direction. There’s plenty of life in her staging, which keeps an army of Pollitts and servants, assembled for Big Daddy’s birthday, running around Ray Klausen’s standard-issue Southern-mansion set. There is even, for reasons beyond my ken, a saxophone player (Gerald Hayes) who struts across the stage before each act.

The resulting atmosphere is festive, for sure, and the show is never boring. But too often it’s without focus. Ms. Allen tries to resolve the problem by having her principal characters awkwardly spotlighted for their defining soliloquies. (William H. Grant III did the oddly abrupt lighting.) But she needs to rein in her cast.

Mr. Esposito, Ms. Anderson and even on occasion Mr. Jones resort to broad exaggeration more appropriate to a sitcom. And Mr. Howard is allowed to punctuate Brick’s speeches with slackening silences of interior exploration on which the audience is not invited to accompany him.

I will admit that I have yet to see a perfectly balanced “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” What I recall of Anthony Page’s version in 2003 is Mr. Beatty’s magnificent Big Daddy.

But Williams wrote that with “Cat” he was “trying to catch the true quality of experience in a group of people, that cloudy, flickering, evanescent — fiercely charged! — interplay of live human beings in the thundercloud of a common crisis.” The only fiercely charged element at the Broadhurst is Ms. Rose’s Maggie. This “Cat” cries out for more lightning.

Radiohead Reveals North American Tour Dates

Radiohead will embark on its first North American tour in two years May 5 in West Palm Beach, Fla. Eight shows have been confirmed for the first leg, which wraps May 18 in Dallas.

Afterward, Radiohead will visit Europe for a month's worth of shows that begin June 6-7 in Dublin and wrap July 8 in Berlin. The band then returns to North America in August for shows in such locales as New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, with dates and venues to be announced.

The group will be out in support of its 2007 album "In Rainbows," which was first made available as a name-your-own-price download via Radiohead.com in October, and then released on CD in early January via TBD/ATO. It has sold 311,000 copies in that form, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Vedder Heads West For Spring Solo Shows

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder will embark on his first solo tour this spring, in support of his Monkeywrench/J soundtrack to the acclaimed film "Into the Wild." Dates begin April 2 in Vancouver; Liam Finn will open.

Vedder was uncertain about presenting the material live when he spoke to Billboard late last year. "I like the idea. It'll happen when it happens if it happens," he said with a laugh.

But he has since come around to the idea, perhaps encouraged by a well-received performance of "Into the Wild" music at a private party in Los Angeles in November.

"This will be an amazing opportunity for fans to see Eddie Vedder in such intimate settings," RCA Music Group VP or A&R/marketing Matt Shay tells Billboard.com. "Working with Eddie on the music from 'Into the Wild' has been an honor, and the tour will be a true highlight for all of us."

At present, it hasn't been announced whether Vedder will be playing the shows completely on his own or with help from other musicians. Ticket information, including pre-sale access for members of Pearl Jam's Ten Club fan organization, can be found at PearlJam.com.

Vedder's "Into the Wild" soundtrack has sold 243,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The track "Guaranteed" won the Golden Globe for best original song, while "Hard Sun" enjoyed success at radio, peaking at No. 13 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart.

Before Vedder hits the road, Pearl Jam is expected to regroup and start sketching out material for its next studio album. As previously reported, the band will also assemble to co-headline the Bonnaroo festival in mid-June in Manchester, Tenn.

There's other new Vedder music in the offing as well. His track "No More" will serve as the first single from "Body of War: Songs That Inspired an Iraq War Veteran," due March 18 via Sire.

Cher beat the odds at every turn in her 44-year career, so it's no surprise she's betting on an artistic rebirth in Las Vegas.

The indestructible diva, who retired from touring in 2005, will star in a song-and-dance spectacle starting May 6 at the 4,100-seat Colosseum in Caesars Palace. She'll perform four shows weekly for one month, then return mid-August through early October, leapfrogging stints with Bette Midler. Her pact with promoter AEG Live extends three years.

Cher, 61, promises a "visually unbelievable" hit parade that entails elaborate choreography, complex staging, eye-popping costumes, 14 dancers and four aerialists.

"Creatively, we're doing something that's never been done with sets," she says. "Getting the whole thing in book form, in pictures, has taken months. Our set moves down from the ceiling, in from the sides, up from the floor. We have screens in the foreground, the center and the back. We can change a city into a forest in two seconds. You'll see a different stage for every song."

The music will access all chapters of Cher's career, from her Sonny & Cher start to her recent dance-pop phase, and she's plotting updates of both old and new hits.

Cher's extravagant 2002-05 Farewell Tour rang up $192.5 million from 273 shows, the ninth-highest-grossing tour in history, according to Billboard Boxscore.

"Cher definitely achieved elite status as a live performer on her Farewell Tour, which was a remarkable endurance test and a hugely popular draw," says Billboard touring editor Ray Waddell. "With her elaborate costumes, long list of hits and over-the-top presentation, I can't think of another artist more suited to Vegas. A Cher concert is just a really good time."

Cher insists her Vegas splash won't recycle Farewell's motifs: "I'd like to be challenged."

She hasn't seen Colosseum concerts by previous residents Celine Dion or Elton John, nor the venue itself ("I saw a picture of it"). She's furiously working out to gear up for rehearsals, and she likes the idea of bouncing between her home in Malibu and a steady gig in Vegas.

But don't look for her at the craps tables: "Let me have a pair of shoes for my money."

Chicago Cubs Tickets Go On Sale

The Cubs on Tuesday announced that individual game tickets for the 2008 regular season will go on sale Friday, Feb. 22. Tickets will be available for purchase in the following methods:

• At the Wrigley Field box office: Tickets will go on sale at 8:00 a.m. and a random wristband system will be used. There will be no advantage to "camping out" at the ballpark, as initial position in lines will be established by a random drawing of all wristbands distributed prior to 6 a.m. Friday morning.

Wristbands will be available at Wrigley Field from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, and from 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21. There is a limit of one wristband per person. You will be required to show two (2) forms of identification, one of which needs to be a government issued photo ID. The wristbands will only be used at Wrigley Field on Friday, Feb. 22.

A random drawing will be held shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 22 to determine the starting number for the ticket lines. The winning number will immediately be announced on WGN Radio 720-AM and on the Cubs official Web site, cubs.com. All other numbers will follow the selected number.

• By telephone: Tickets can be purchased by telephone through Tickets.com beginning at 10 a.m. The Tickets.com phone number for Illinois callers is 800-The-Cubs (800-843-2827). The phone number for out-of-state callers is 866-652-2827.

• Via the Internet: Visitors to the Cubs Web site, www.cubs.com, can purchase tickets beginning at 10 a.m.

A virtual waiting room will be used for all Internet orders. The virtual waiting room will begin accepting customers at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 22. At 10:00 a.m. customers will be randomly selected from the virtual waiting room to begin purchasing tickets. All internet customers will need a valid cubs.com account. We recommend that customers sign-up for an account prior to February 22.

Outlet ticket sales will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, at Chicagoland Tickets.Com outlets.

Ticket limits: On Feb. 22, 23 and 24 various ticket limits will be put in place. These limits will be imposed based on various factors including customer name, household, credit card and e-mail address. Internet customers who use computer-based scripting language may have all orders cancelled.

There will be a limit of six tickets per game.

At the Wrigley Field Box Office, you will be limited to ordering a maximum of 42 tickets.

Internet and phone customers will be limited to one game per order of up to six tickets. Internet and Phone customers will be limited to a maximum of 42 tickets for the weekend. All customers who order more than this limit may have all orders cancelled.

All bleacher tickets sold at Wrigley Field on Feb. 22 will be by credit card only - Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express. Credit Cards used during the on-sale must be in the name of the ticket purchaser.

In an effort to provide the best ticket availability for Cubs fans, all customers when receiving a wristband on Feb. 20 or 21 and while purchasing tickets at Wrigley Field on Feb. 22 will be required to show two (2) forms of identification, one of which needs to be a government issued photo ID.

Better get them before they are sold out, Red Sox tickets are hot commodities and sell for more than market value once they are sold out at the main ticket offices.

TicketsNow is being acquired by TicketMaster

As with any new year, speculations arise about what next business will be acquired to strenghten another company's product offering. There is always speculations and then there is the actual transactions that take place. One major blockbuster was when eBay acquired Stubhub and now there is another blockbuster in the works which will make this aftermarket ticket company an even more exciting industry-changing alliance.

TicketsNow has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Ticketmaster.

Their consolidated strengths will create great opportunities to sell more tickets and each company the tools to achieve long-term growth and success. Combining TicketsNow's strong resale network with Ticketmaster's distribution capabilities will enable TicketsNow to set a new standard for resale by providing unsurpassed reliability, security, and convenience.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of of 2008, and upon closing TicketsNow will be an independently operated, wholly owned subsidiary of Ticketmaster. The current executive team will remain in place and continue to lead TicketsNow's operations offices in Rolling Meadows and Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Ticketmaster has been trying to get a foothold on the ticket aftermarket for a long time but it's ticket auctions and aftermarket operation hasn't had great success. People that sell tickets at Ticketmaster's reseller market would often see there tickets go unsold or sell at a lower premium than they wanted.

There are only a few ticket resellers that have a strong name in the marketplace of selling hard to get, sold out and front row tickets. Once these premium tickets are sold at face value, there are several factors that make these ticket prices skyrocket like hot cakes. The location of the seats and who the performer is, sometimes its the date of the event - broadway shows sell for a higher price near the holidays. But tickets for the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and Hannah Montana can double in price in the aftermarket once the show is sold out.
