Retail supply has been slowly catching up to the area, but there is still quite a bit of demand for more convenience in the area. North American Development Group has contracted to buy almost 40 acres on the northwest corner of Woodmen and Meridian roads to answer the demand. They envision a 232,700 square-foot shopping center, to be called Falcon Highlands Northwest. This shopping center is designed as a 130,000 square-foot box with several smaller sites that would accommodate restaurants, banks and automotive parts stores, and other miscellaneous stores. The developer hopes to receive approval from El Paso County to start construction in 2009, with shops opening in 2010.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;Safeway, Walgreen’s, and Wal-mart are just a few of the large stores already located in and around Woodman Hills and Meridian Ranch. Many fast food and sit-down restaurants, dry cleaners, banks and other stores and services have added convenience to the location as well. Lowe’s is expected to add a store soon near Meridian and U.S. Highway 24. The Colorado Springs Airport has not seen such progress in over a decade. They have tried bringing in other low-cost carriers with no luck. Southwest Airlines was a possibility 2 years ago, but they ended up in Denver. The Colorado Rockies have had a Cinderella post season this far and have won the last 7 games in the post season in a sweep to get to the World Series. Whoever faces them in the World Series has got to be a little nervous to say the least.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The best part of the team is that 15 of its 25 players on the post season roster are home-grown. With this the Rockies are a young team and should be a success for years to come. &lt;a href="http://www.skysox.com/"&gt;The Colorado Springs Sky Sox&lt;/a&gt;, our local AAA baseball team, has had a lot to do with the Rockies success. It was expected that the Fed would meet today and drop the interest rate a quarter point. With the worst housing market in 16 years it is apparent that this drop was needed, although some economists predict three or more rate cuts to avoid a recession. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke is walking a thin line between dropping rates and stirring up a side of inflation. There has been an ease in inflation pressure helping the Fed in their aggressive and needed handling of the housing market. The Parade of Homes is in progress. It started on August 17 and goes until September 2. There are a total of 46 homes to view in the parade. The most exciting homes to see are the 16 that are over 1 million dollars. Do not let that stop you from viewing the other homes in the parade as well. The main parade sites are The Black Forest Reserve and The Preserve at Walden. Cordera has some homes that are grouped together, and the rest are scattered all around Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, Monument, and Woodland Park. The tickets are $10 for adults, and free if under 18 or over 65 years old. Active military can get free tickets (see parade website below for details). Enter to win a pool table from Backyards &amp;amp; Billiards if you get your ticket stamped at 25 of the parade homes.&lt;br /&gt;The parade is great for taking in design ideas, so bring your camera! It is also a great way of seeing what the different builders can do.
