Jim celebrates his 50th with a top party bash, including karaoke, food and quite a few drinks! Congratulations to our oldest castaways member!

Matt & Simon Try out The Secret Quarry

Myself & Matt decided to dive The Secret Quarry take a look round and see what it’s all about. We decided to enter along towards the top end where the others hadn’t really looked at yet. There was mega rain and just before we were going to enter a small stream decided to suddenly start pumping brown muddy crap into our entry point reducing the visibility to the end of your nose. So we swam out the way of that and dive a shallow 10m swim along the edge, it was a bit too cold and dark for my liking so we only went to a dark 14m where it was 7c and my hands were about dropping off thicker gloves needed next time!

We didn’t really see anything amazing, we spotted a perch sitting curled up on a rock it wasn’t looking too happy really. All the rocks were covered in thick silt with a coating of some strange white stuff which didn’t look too good t be honest! Apart from a toy tractor a few bits of scrap metal and tyres we didn’t see much else really, maybe next time we will brave a dive to 20m where we should find a few cars.......

It is sad that there was a strong electrical storm that affected all the cameras. No footage has survived of the Red Arrows or the Band, none either of the unequalled mud wrestling fight with the girls.

It is also sad that the pictures of the large crowd was also lost.

We did manage to retrieve the photo of the day though, the Kenwood Chef presentation.

Open Day 2nd August 2008

The "Castawaydivers" open day at the secret quarry was a complete success with over a hundred members and associates turning up to offer there support. Many thanks to the Red Arrows and Fleckney Silver Band for a great display and performance. And a big thanks to Andy Nichols for the catering and to Bash for the outside bar.

The diving went well with at least another ten cars being located and what appears to be a 1940's Bedford truck. (like on the Thistlegorm) And also a lifting exercise took place to recover a Kenwood Chef.(unfortunately the bowl was missing)

The evening then came then came to an end with an cracking firework display at Stanford Hall. Many thanks to Vince for the complementary tickets.

Jim was there to lower the lifting straps down the shot while Tat did surface cover.

They've done it again.

Saturday 12th and Dave and Trev with Jim giving surface cover lifted yet another bike from 'The Quarry'.

They have also rigged two more cars for lifting.

There is a lot down there it's like 'Piggots' scrapyard , said Trev after the dive.

So any one need spares?

The boys were back in on Wednesday evening with Tat as surface cover and found a blockhouse style concrete shed sitting on a ledge at 5.5m and also discovered two more motorbikes one of which the frame was lifted and recovered to the surface.
