2 months in Brazil

Hi,

My name is Míša and i spent amazing time in Brazil in city called Vitoria during the summer.

I was there as a CEEDer together with another two CEEDers from Europe. VP Talent management from LC Paris in France and the second girl was LCP from LC Bristol in United Kingdom.

Vitoria is a big city – the capital city of the state Espirito Santo on the east.

What was the first shock for me? It came really soon, just few minutes after my plane set down in Rio de Janeiro. Can you imagine that I couldn say simple word in portuguese and after 14 hours of my flight, imigration police

came and told me that i have to go back to europe because of my visa documents? The situation was really bad because nobody could speak english there.Anyway after 8 hours waiting at the airport for my future-go back or stay in Brazil for my summer what i planne

d, the horror ended. I learned the hard way that AIESEC is really working and helping their members everytime.Thanks AIESEC Praha and also Vitoria and their great cooperation, imigration police decided that i can stay in Brazil.

After this horrible experience came just great things.I lived with one AIESEC member in her house with her, her husband, her mum and 5 dogs

These 2 months were the best in my life. I was working for AIESEC Vitoria.I helped them with the

new structure of OGX and I tried to help them with matching

companies and EPs. It was also something new for me so I learned some news about ICX .The best thing ever was to share my expe

rience from my LC with other people. I could discuss the situation of our LC with another 4 LCs from absolutelly different countries(France, UK, the Netherlands, Brazil).

But I also had the chance to see how normal people live in Brazil, what is normal day for students in my age, try different food (they eat rice and beans with some kind of meat every day).

I also met another 2 girls from the Netnerlands.They traveled around the Brazil and gave the LCs some trainings (they were part of ambasador program, which is made every

year in the Netherlands). I traveled a little bit with Dutch girls, another CEEDers from Vitoria and trainees. We spent 5 days in Rio de Janeiro and 4 days in Salvador. In Salvador we lived by one AIESEC member, what was also amazing experience . Her parents were in Czech republic-its wonder because not many people from Brazil were in Europe. Thanks our trips we could see how another LCs in Brazil work.

Did this experience change myself? Of course I learned how to enjoy my life, dont be in stress whole time and respect what I have and who I am.

CEEMOS 09 - Bosna and Hercegovina

Who wouldn´t consider Balkan as an interested destination which is worth visiting he should evaluate his opinion just again and take advantage of any opportunity as we did. Eleven of us took part in the CEEMOS 09 international conference. It took part few kilometers far from Sarajevo, the capital of The Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We met a lot of people from CEE region - Polish, Slovak, Macedonian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Greek, Slovenian, Turkish, Bosnian and Serbian. It was great to see young generation of Bosnian and Serbian cooperated together. We can´t also forget our friend Kuz from the UK...

The conference was divided into two tracks - taking responsibility and exchange track. In the TR track our members talked about leadership, exchange and its relevance in today world...they also simulated the processes from AIESEC during managerial game and improved their cultural understanding during feed backing outdoor session. In the exchange track we worked on establishing the cooperation among our local committees within the CEE, we shared our knowledge and we also talked about internal trends in exchange. In the end we have four co operations.

We enjoyed the parties - especially the last one which was connected with the internal Global Village and on Thursday - the last day of the conference - we traveled in the centre of Sarajevo where we were accommodated in hostel so we could prepare ourselves for exploring Sarajevo´s old city and Mostar - the 5th biggest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina located in the southern part of Herzegovina - containing wonderful sights.

We were impressed by the contrast of this country - houses absolutely devastated by war standing next to the new ones which we are used to in The CR. The orient next to European culture - mosques next to cathedrals... In Sarajevo it is kind of ordinary that mosque, synagogue and church are located nearby each other. All of this wondered us a lot.

But our most impressive moment should still come... our guides were naturally guys from CC (Congress committee) and after the closer recognition we started to realize the signs of war. The witness of persons who lived 4 years in the war shocked us all -

"When I was eight the war started but my memories are still fresh. My father was twice injured and now he can´t walk... When our house was destroyed we just moved to another - if it was free we could stay over there... Sarajevo was few years besieged and people didn´t have 4 years ordinary water supply...now it is much better."

This is also part of Bosnian culture. You can see that people are still afraid to buy long term possession such as new cars. All these facts were hard to imagine for us - calmly living Europeans.

We gained al above a lot of new knowledge, experiences and new friends... Motivated and fascinated we returned back to Prague.

Summer in Turkey!

Hey!

I am Sasa a I have spent half of my summer 2008 in Turkey. I have lived at my friend’s house in Ankara. I met this friend at my first international conference - CEEMOS in Tunisia!

I worked at LC Ankara as a CEED. Two days after I arrived they had huge planning congress with all the members so I got to know almost everyone.
At the beginning there were two more CEEDers – girl from USA and a guy from Canada. We worked in OGX team, got our own EPs to take care of and helped with planning for the next recruitment.

Firstly I was really surprised to see so many people at the office every day during the summer. They don’t even think about going abroad during the school break (to earn money), they jut enjoy their summer holiday or go to summer school.
Usually after work we went out for dinner or some drink. Ankara is not really a tourist city but it is a capital, so it is really busy at night. I lived close to the main shopping street with lots of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops.

LC Ankara also had lots of trainees during the summer. Their relationship with trainees was awesome. We had great cultural evenings every week and went for lots of trips. After 2 weeks I joined the Cappadoccia tour, which was something like their LC activity. The trip was for all AIESEC members from Turkey. I have seen lots of beautiful towns and places. We also went to Istanbul for a week. It is a great city – definitely one which is worth to see.
My summer in Turkey was awesome! Firstly I wasn’t sure if it is a good idea but I don’t regret anything. Turkey is a great country and thanks to LC Prague I got a chance to see it!

Hi guyes,
I am Dada and I have just spent 6 weeks at amazing little island in Caribbean region called Puerto Rico. Maybe you know it as birth country of Ricci Martin, Jenifer Lopez, some Miss Universe…or as home of Bacardi and Pina Colada:)

Puerto Rico is " the oldest colony of USA",but people there speak spanish or how they say spanglish (cause during times Americans tried to change their national language and people were so confuced that they started to read english words in spanish way).

The capital city is San Juan, but in past that was the name of all island and Puerto Rico name of capital. But who changed it no one knows!
( maybe some of u knows part of this city from movie Dirty Dancing II, there its presented as Cuba, but it was made in SJ).

What about people? Puerto Ricans are friendly, open-mided culture.Its normal to visit someone during lunch or dinner time and just ask for meal with them:)
They love food! Normal meal means meat and 2,3 or more sides on one plate.Usually with rice, beans and fried platano (big big green bananas that u can cook in 100 ways:)

On the other hand they are so red-tempered, that to arggue with them is not good idea. Maybe thats the reason why is Puerto Rico famous of its violence and no. of murders.
Yes its not normal to walk around during the night and at some places niether during the day.
Each family has 3-4 cars so its not a problem, the way of living is american with taste of „La vida es para vivir!“.So lets move to...

Parties:) Parties are outside...in spite of law prohibits drinking on the streets. U can see people everywhere, in fashion clohes, girls with high-heels that Ihave never seen befor:) dancing and chatting in front of pubs, clubs..

And the most important think:)las playas...for me the island Culebra and Flamenco beach (every year in top 10 of the most beatiful beaches of the world.)
Its far from PR just 15 minutes by small plane or one hour by ferry..and its paradise...isnt it?

I am really happy that I had the opportunity to go there ( as LC development CEED if i didnt mention it yes:)and I could be one o 40 Czech people each year that visit this island!

It is India!

Hey, I am Marie and I am just spending my two last weeks from the three-motnth's management internship in Chandigarh in the North of India. Going to India needs a bit of courage, but it is one of the strongest experience in my life.

I have been working for an Indian company that manufactures medical electronic equipment and helping it expand to the Czech market. Well, Indian culture is different both in private and business life, so during the time here I had to learn to be more broadminded, easy-going and patient:-)

On the other hand I have met here tens of very nice people - trainees from all over the world - and some of them will certainly stay my friends forever. Moreover, India is just an amazing country, much bigger and more diverse than Europeans usually imagine. Different languages are spoken in every federal state, you get different food and people wear different traditional clothes. That's why the most wonderful thing about my trainee ship is the traveling: I have seen the breath-taking Taj Mahal in Agra, precious Golden Temple in Amritsar and high peaks of the Himalayas.

Maybe not the best country for MT, but absolutely unforgettable for all types of trainee ships!

My traineeship in marcipan city

Hey, my name is Mickey and I have spent great summer in Luebeck, Germany, working for the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
My management traineeship was spacial one, as it was a part of project BUSINESS CONTACT. This project has been running for 17 years and the main idea is that the students from East and Central Europe are coming for traineeship to North Germany to different towns and different companies.
First of all we all spent weekend in Bremen, where we had ICLS (Intercultural Learning Seminar), it's a special seminar for all exchange participants...for me it was a good way to get to know others and to find out more about our and other cultures. We also had grill parties and sight-seeing:)

After that we moved to Flensburg, it's the the small lovely town on the north of germany on the borders to Daenemark...

DT in Ukraine - teaching English in summer camps

Having decided to devote 2 months in summer at development traineeship around Europe, and getting the offer from AIESEC Dnipropetrovsk in Ukraine, I accepted the conditions and travelled to the place of "Undiscovered Europe" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhQc-Ux3jJw).

After arrival, local members of AIESEC took care: being picked from the train station, moving to spend few days at one AIESECer's place and eating straight after in the national canteen Puzata Hata (Пузата хата), I felt their warm hospitality. They helped me as well with all the necessary "you must do after arrival" stuff, took me for the walk along the longest embankment in Europe (Dnepr river) and prepared a very nice picnic style welcome!

I met my boss, director of English language school. My task was teaching kids (aged 8-16) English in summer camps at the sea shore of Black sea .

That required leaving Dnipropetrovsk behind and travelling 600 kms to Crimea peninsula.
From this moment on, all necessary communication with AIESEC was possible only through mobile phones, but generally there were no hot issues to solve.
On the other hand, I had no chance to get to know more deeply the AIESEC culture there nor meet any other trainees.

My day in the camp included time at the beach with kids, 2-4 English lessons (each 60 minutes) with materials from boss, helping out with the evening programme.
Accommodation and food was provided for free, I received small pocket money every week.

Basically, the work/life with kids was amazing (!)
Being with them all the time in the camp (note: each camp was max. 25 kids), playing and having fun together, having personal conversation from time to time to support their building of self-esteem, and simply becoming one of them - these are moments to be experienced!

Only you know how it is to receive sincere smiles all the time, what the curious eyes of a 10-yrs old boy wanting to know more about your country mean, that by your attitude towards to life you may actually have some positive indirect influence on others..

Don't want this to sound as cliche, but there were few moments that challenged and tested my flexibility, cultural sensitivity and perception of human beings in general.

And to call this as "Ukrainian experience" - having visited Kiev and the Tatar city Bakchisaray , gaining new friends and feeling the country is smoothly getting under my skin, I know Ukraine deserves more of my time to be explored and experienced fully! ;)

My DT internship in Izmir Turkey 2008

Ahoj AIESEC Praho,
zdravím Vás všechny až z moc přehřátého Turecka, kde trávím už svůj 2 měsíc na DT praxi, kterou beru jako neuvěřitelnou zkušenost plnou nádherných zážitků, na která nikdy nezapomenu!

Pracuju na projektu Myself-My world, který získal nejlepší ocenění v celém Turecku! Moje práce tady se blíží ke konci, takže Vám teď můžu říct, co jsem tu celé dva měsíce dělala. První týden začal tím, že jsem poznala všech svých 12 spolutraineeků - každý z nich pochází z jiné země, takže jsme byla dost různorodá skupina (Holansko, Polsko, Ukrajina, Kanada, USA, Trinidad a Tobago, Egypt, Hawaii, Čína, Japonsko, Malajsie a Hong Kong). Naše práce začala školením, která se týkala time-managementu, project managementu, team managementu a dalších, od profesionálů na jedné z místních univerzit. Ze všech našich hodin jsme si dělali poznámky, které jsme použili následující týden, kdy jsme "brainstormovali" o letním kempu! V průběhu letních prázdnin jsme pořádali dva letní kempy pro studenty ze středních škol z celého Izmiru. Hlavním naším cílem bylo jim představit naše země, pomoci jim zlepšit jejich angličtinu a naučit je něco nového! Na každém z kempů bylo 60 dětí, takže jsme si je rozdělili do menších skupinek, kde jsme jim představili jednotlivé téma a ve skupinkách jsme hrály hry, které jim pomohly si uvědomit, o čem se ten den bavíme! Jeden den jsme se například bavili o "Body language", kde jsme si pak zkoušeli předevšemi prezentovat nějaké téma. Řekli jsme si, co bylo super, na čem je třeba zapracovat. Pro mě bylo nejkrásnější vidět, když na konci kempu studenti představovali jejich zemi a jak velký pokrok udělali! Zapracovali na sobě a výsledek mohli na sobě vidět sami!

S dětmi jsme prakticky trávili celý den - od ráno 10 hodin do 10 večera, kdy jsme společně šli na večeři a pak seděli na pobřeží u moře! Bylo nádherné vidět, jak nás děti obdivují a berou nás a kemp jako jejich nejlepší zkušenost. Velká většina z nich nikdy nebyla v zahraničí a tahla příležitost jim pomohla si uvědomit, jak moc je důležité učit se cizí jazyk a pracovat na sobě!

Před mým pobytem jsem přesně nevěděla, co mám od tohoto pobytu očekávat, ale teď vím přesně, že to byla zkušenost k nezaplacení. Turecko je země odlišná od té naší a naše rozdílnosti mi pomohly si uvědomit, co v životě chci, bez čeho nedokážu žít a určite si teď vážím toho, co doma mám!

Looking back for term 2007/2008

...why now? In few weeks my term as MC Director for Exchange Development in AIESEC in Hong Kong will start and new stage of my life.

I still remember the time when i started to think for the first time about EB in Praha - it was at MCP elections in 2007, while eating in the break, Esko(LCP of Praha in 06/07) came to me asked me - dont want you apply for EB in Praha? And my reaction - are you crazy? Im too long in AIESEC, I was not recruited in AIESEC Praha...and his reply - I dont want to get the reply now, just think about it :-) after some time our term started...me as VP XD responsible for the "biggest value of AIESEC Praha" - OGX realisations together with whole EB we started to fight for AIESEC Praha.

EB term was intensive learning for each of us, even for me, as I was already some time in AIESEC. We challenged each other almost every time we met, we had a lot of discussions, misunderstanding, learning, feedbacks, hours and hours of meetings, urgent emails, action steps.... and i can not forget a lot, lot of fun.
Really unforgettable 1 year. And as we gave to AIESEC Praha all the best from ourselves, I hope we moved LC Praha forward...after our term finished - all EB 07/08 members are LEADING BY EXAMPLE.

SOLUTION 2008, Vienna (Feb 14-17)

Willing to experience something new connected with leadership, I decided to attend SOLUTION 2008 conference in February as delegate.

Going to Vienna, meeting few old friends there and heading for awesome venue, where the conference was just about to start.Not a typical "get to know" delivered by Tanz die Toleranz (The dance of tolerence) offered the perspective that this conference might be delivered differently than the usual AIESEC way.
In fact, it was designed as a project of Emersense and AIESEC in Austria.

Solution - Leadership for sustainability gave to 80 participants together with 10 people from learning team a place stop, think, reflect and create.

Built on Theory U - a concept for personal and social transformation, using all human senses throughout the conference, using learning methods with arts and formal education, challenging our status quo & perspectives with externals of different backgrounds and reputable partner organizations and guests, empowering to act sustainabily - these are just few captured memories of this quite unique conference in AIESEC network!

All of these to build clarity, confidence, capability and courage to contribute to a sustainable future.

NaLDS 2007 - A life-changing experience!

This November I was a delegate at for me one of the most intensive and life changing conferences in AIESEC I have ever been to, to NaLDS in Germany.
We spend 1 amazing week in the beautiful mountain resort in the middle of Germany. We had a great fun with people from many different countries from 3 continents (Europe, Africa and Asia). I remember the great snow fight that spontaneously occurred one day as there was much snow. Surprisingly people who never saw snow in their life before were the ones who where fighting in the most cruel way, throwing others in the snow and other stuff 

We dedicated this week to find something in us, to shape our values, vision. All the people are acting according to their values but sometimes they do not realize it. Then when they find stop and think what they did, they find out it is not the thing they wanted and that they are not really happy and satisfied with their lives.

Therefore I am very thankful that NaLDS gave me this opportunity to stop and think about myself. NaLDS created the environment where I was really honest with myself. I started to realize what is really important in my life for me and what I will do to live like that. It seems really simple to do it and maybe you think it is natural that you know what you want and live like that, but try to sit down for an hour, relax and think of it once again. Do you really know what is important for you - not for your parents, friends, society - in you life? If yes, write to me, I would really like to talk to you.

Next thing NaLDS brought to me was many new friends from all around the Europe. Not people you get to know, but true friends. We were talking together about things I do not usually talk even with my best friend and these people listened to me and tried to understand me. I hope we will meet again soon. At least we plan it.

Last thing I want to write about are AIESEC conferences in general. I heard about the internationalism and diversity in everything connected with AIESEC almost once a week before. But before I left for an international conference, it all seems like something that goes beyond me. Before NaLDS we got the international conference where we talked about AIESEC expansion in Iran. I thought well, that is nice but what the hell I have to do with it. In 3 days I came to Germany and my roommate was a guy who co-initiates the Iran expansion. Then I felt how the world - especially the AIESEC one - is small.

What to tell in the end? GO INTERNATIONAL AND USE IT IN YOUR DAY-TO-DAY REALITY!

FallCo 2007 - brutální sranda!

Tak, konečně jsem přišla na to, jak se správně přihlásit na blog a přidat příspěvek! :-)

Doufám, že jste nezapomněli na své zážitky z FallCa, podzimní národní konference AIESEC ČR, kterou organizovalo naše LCčko!! Pro připomenutí - 1.-4.11. se sešlo 300 studentů z ČR v Koutech nad Desnou. Pilo se Staropramen, Coca Cola, jedly se sušenky od Opavia a jogurty od Hollandia... Party byly bouřlivé a žhavé....

Naše OCčko si užilo konferenci po svém - vysílání rádia dobré nálady na frekvenci naších vyšílaček, zpívání všelijakých songů v různých jazycích atd. Chci jim všem ještě jednou moc moc poděkovat! Zejména Helče, Terce a Hudimu!! Jste skvělí!!

This special event became a tradition in LC Praha. Every summer we organize this for our parents – basically to show them what AIESEC is doing, why their children are staying whole summer in Prague, what are our results, what we are getting out of that ... Probably the most interesting part is meeting of our parents with our trainees – to show them real exapmle of our work.

This meeting is special also b/c of the reason that most of our parents are not fluent in english, so we have to translate it – we can demonstrate our language skills gained through ourmembership in AIESEC, they can see so many nationalities together at one place, ask different questions, share stories about their children and AIESEC life – that its normal to visit home once in 3 months, going to conferences every weekend, meeting friends in whole world leave to different country in few days etc. This event was amazing ! I would like to thank especially to all trainees who joined us and make this event special and unforgottable for our parents.

Yes, it’s different
Being in touch with the AI people and global issues changes my perspectives on many topics. From time to time I’m also thinking back on (not only) the last summer, when a planning of autumn 2006 took place and I keep asking myself:
> why the hell I didn’t see these and those contexts? :)
> why the hell the people here on AI sometimes act as they have never been working on LCs? :)) (some of them have left LC level 4 years ago…;))

From LC to AI
For me it’s very interesting shift from professional point of view as well. Now you do not count realizations one by one, knowing every detail about respective X forms, but rather focus on facts that Africa GN is growing, that there is no CEE country among TOP5 (Q1+Q2) or that the whole network increased X results compared to the last year, YES!
I feel the impact, but at the same time, I do feel that everything what’s going on here has one purpose only: @XP of 22000 members in the network.

IT: global focus area 2007/2008
Let’s not talk about eXchange... which reminds me the new IS to be launched in September. I’d like to share with you my amazement about its concept, features and the overall effort dedicated to its development. Last week the IS team presented a draft of wonderful promotion campaign of the new IS, so you can look forward to news from IC in Turkey!

But it’s definitely not only about work… luckily there are working hours:-)

Incredible India!

Hey AIESEC Praha, here are just some points I would like to share with you so that you are more wise going here (than I was) and so that you avoid any faux-pas (that I did:)

Very quiet Indian street

Rajasthanian food

When eating Indians use only right hand. Left hand was traditionally used for hygienic purposes and that´s why it´s considered unclean.

Your feet should never touch any book. Books are worshiped for giving knowledge to people and feets are considered to be unclean.

Girls! Do not wear short skirts (by short I mean every skirt except the one that touch the soil). I´ve worn it once and I would never repeat it here:)

Be prepared for uncredible and unpredictable traffic system. Meeting camel, cow, elephant, people crossing the streets and rickshas while driving is more than probable.

Every meeting starts half an hour later than agreed or is cancelled.

If you are served a meal, you should eat everything because it´s impolite to leave anything on the plate.

18.6.2007 at 16:25 arrived at Prague´s airport plane with our new LC Coach.

Traditional invitation habits were waiting for her...beer, bread with salt, shot of Becherovka, one more shot of Becherovka, almost the last one, last one ...Tequilla, one more...:)

Barbara went through amazing experience of game that Lukas and Fabosko prepared, almost half of aiport staff was involved...So dont miss chance and meet her as soon as possible...

As tasting, here are some funny messages from plan update. You can see that we were working really hard.

Here we go.....

Roman: „Structured chillout – na 3 části.“

Roman vysvětluje co máme dělat, po 5 minutách jeho monologu se ozve Lucka:
„Budeme to sharovat?“

Roman: „Držte huby a přemýšlejte. Nemusíte to sharovat.“

Roman: „Kdo by se chtěl účastnit, může … je to povinné.“

Vojta: „Romane, mně se na tobě líbí, …“

Vojta: „Vhodná témata pro sharing, jak vnímáme ostatní po 3 měsících společné práce – třeba jaké nosí boty.“

Vojta: „Nějaký feedback na sebe? To nemám, ale můžu použít něco, co mám na ostatní.“

Kdo jde první na Kláru?

Vojta reakce na Kláru: „Chtěla jít do EB, protože nechtěla prezentovat an TLs´ volbách.“

Klára: „Current state – to je mezi snídaní a než se sem přesuneme.“

Talent Management presentation – Plan versus reality – Vojta: „We will skip it. It was difficult to manage.“

Vojta apologised to Fabosh, that his ppt is in Czech. Klara: „My ppt is in no language, because I don´t have any ppt.“

Roman se finálně v 19:00 převlékl z pyžama.

Roman: „Půjdeme o přestávce ven?“
Lucka: „Ne, to bysme se nemuseli vrátit.“
Klára: „Tak půjdeme na balkon, odtamtud nezdrhneme.“

Roman: „Klára, are you ready?“
Klára: „Yes, I´m ready.“
Roman: „Are you? OK, 2 minutes more.“

Míšan: „Co kdybychom začali delegovat stylem 3, 2, 1, teď a na koho ukáže co nejdřív co nejvíc lidí?“

„What are you looking for?“
Fabosh: „Shit.“

Lucka: „To have enough people for must does in spring, we´re going to recruit 50 newies. Some of them will leave, so 30 will be enough.“
Martin: „And if nobody leaves, we can fire them.“

Roman: „We will discuss when we are going to discuss.“ (about infomeetings)

Martin: „We can do match party. Sit at the table and compete who will do more matches in one minute.“

CEEMOS/CEELDS 2007 in Estonia

Had the chance, took the challenge and applied for CEEMOS / CEELDS 2007 conferences in Estonia!

8 members of AIESEC Praha went to Pärnu to live one week in a totally international environment where they met people from 16 different countries under one roof.

For Klara, Mickey, Mia, Vieros, Hana, Mara, Martin K. and Vojta it was definitly one of the events they will remember loooong ;-), hopefully keeping the learning points & using contacts gained there for further AIESEC and non-AIESEC work!!
PS: Just get ready for CEE MOS/LDS 2008 and go international :-)

It was really extreme action, you have to go throught a lot of surprises prepared by experienced EB members as games, drinking strange alcohol and eat whatever....who of you knows what everything was in the cup???

Hello everybody, we would like to share some moments of our term 2006-2007. It was an amazing year full of challenges, fun, successes and failures. Your EB 2006/2007 Petra, Roman, Martin, Zuzka, Radim and Ondra

Everything began on EB approval...

...it was really stresfull for everone of us. After filling the application, grabbing info about our functional areas, we were standing in front of members of LC Praha waiting for what will they ask...it was hardcore, but EB for term 07/08 was approved !!!

Trainee weekend - Easter and Christmas reception

Try to imagine, that you are just waking up or sleeping yet and some strange people come to your flat with many plastic bags full of some stuff you can not descry. You want some more sleep and the only thing you are thinking about is- Gosh, what is going on? I think this is how our trainees must have firstly felt.
We (Terka, Jane, Mia, Honza and me) came to trainee’s flat something about 1 p.m. and we started to prepare our show about Easter. Terka and Mia brought lot of things from home, like painted eggs, postcards with Easter motives, magazines, straw hare and they made some short talking about Easter in the Czech Republic. Honza took care about advertisement and me with Jane were baking the Easter cake called the cross bun in such a small kitchen J

Firstly the situation was little bit peculiar we didn’t know how the trainees will view it. But after 30 minutes so many people came and they were really interested in what we prepared for them. After some trifling trouble with oven we succeeded in baking two beautiful cakes! We were discussing all topics connected with Easter, painting eggs with onion water and wax, drinking hot tee and eating, what we have baked J Two weeks before Christmas we spent a pleasant Easter afternoon!

Then Christmas team came – The Bestsellers (Vieros, Mickey, Martin, Marťa and Roman) and we started to prepare the real Christmas atmosphere with candles, carols and some Christmas biscuits. In the beginning we said something about traditional Czech Christmas customs (and mentioned mainly those, that were for some reason funny or mysterious) and then trainees described customs in their homelands. All this was very nice, just imagine, no lamps but candlelight, about 20 people from all around the world in a tiny room, in good mood, sharing what they do home during the Christmas. Then three of us started to cook the Christmas Eve’s dinner and I with trainees was trying to predict the future from shapes that hot wax made in the water. This part was especially funny, because the most used sentence was: “Look, this is a baby!” J Another Christmas tradition was decorating of gingerbreads with kind of white icing. Also, we distributed empty postcards and said everyone to write there something in his/her mother language.

After this, girls decorated the Christmas tree and when it was finished, the long-awaited dinner came. I am sure that everyone who tasted it must admit that it was delicious J

In the end, we gave everyone a small present – chocolate figure and after collecting all postcards I randomly distributed it again and we tried to guess who had written it.

This Trainee day was very nice and I hope we will meet in the trainee flat soon to have such a good evening again!
