Rincon's Lighthouse Under renovation

We recently visited the Punta Higuero Lighthouse in Rincon and found it to be in renovation. The Lighthouse and facilities sorrounding it are closed and looks like cosmetic changes are being made.

No information was available onsite so we are looking into the news from the municipality.

Point Tuna, Maunabo Lighthouse

These photos are from the Point Tuna Lighthouse before it was taken over by the municipality of Maunabo and right after the Coast Guard left for good. It was boarded up and closed yet now has been reopened as a cultural attraction. We will soon revisit and get photos and videos.

Puerto Ferro in its heyday circa 1926

These are two old photographs of the lighthouse in Puerto Ferro. This neo classic design is very common to all the other lighthouses in Puerto Rico. From these photos it is very similar to the lighthouse in Punta Figuras.

It was a fifth order of Fresnel light which would have an approximate distance of 10 miles out to sea. I will have to see it before the year is out.

Old Punta Figuras and the New Punta Figuras Light

These are two old photos of the Arroyo Lighthouse at Punta Figuras. When compared to the renovated lighthouse many features are easily recognizable.

Interstingly enough the cupula on the light is different, the chains and the lighting is not in the old lighthouse but outside of that the renovation was well done.

Punta Figuras in Arroyo a Hidden Gem

Here are some photos of the Lighthouse at Punta Figuras in Arroyo. When we visited it was NOT open to the public but showed signs of being renovated. It is located within the state run tourist complex and was hard to access. It is a shame that no one has taken over the structure to make it a showcase lighthouse. Though the structure is intact , it's sorroundings have been overdeveloped by the tourist complex and looks almost to be out of place. It is heartening to know that it it still there...

Puerto Ferro Lighthouse Fading Fast

This is a one year old photo I shot of the Puerto Ferro Lighthouse. It looks to be in bad shape and at the present time was off-limits to civilian personnel. I spoke to the director of Fish & Wildlife in Vieques and when I asked permission to enter and photograph the site he politely refused and said that this lighthouse was one that he preferred no one saw...

WHY??? Only you can guess...

The Cabo Rojo Lighthouse

Our group recently visited the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse and were pleased to find that it is open to the public for viewing. It has electricity and the renovation work is evident. Will revisit later on this year for a follow up visit
