Reallusion have today released a new brand new pack entitled Classic Horror Movies. Just in time for the Halloween season this really has everything you need to create your own horror movies. It's a big pack with a lot of content. You will get the following:

Although the pack only comes with one main G3 character, affectionately entitled the Slayer, you do have the 3 bonus characters, a Zombie, Frankenstein and a Witch. You also get four amazingly eerie stages in which to set your horrific deeds. These include a haunted house, an abattoir and a very uninviting corridor so you'll not be short of ideas for locations. The large quantity of props and motions mean that from the get go you'll have everything to hand to start production.

BackStage Live Access

One of the great new developments since the launch of iClone3 has been the announcement of BackStage Live Access. Currently in beta this new service allows you to purchase points and browse BackStage to download trial or purchase full content for iClone3.

This type of pre-paid points system purchasing has proven very popular recently (X-Box Live anyone?) but most of all it offers a way to purchase individual items of content rather than having to buy packs with multiple items, when you only want one or two. Want a chair or just a t-shirt, well now you can very easily with BackStage.

Previously on iClone Daily.....

The big news was iClone3 was finally released on the 9th August 2008 (just a day late). This massive upgrade to iClone brought with it a few problems for some, mainly as they found the PC requirements were now a little more demanding, especially in the graphics department and for some they were not happy.

Reallusion as it always does, listened to their customers and so three patches have now been released, which for the most part have corrected all the inevitable bugs and issues that arose from such a huge leap forward in development and hardware. iClone3 is now running well for most, but another patch 3.1 will be coming soon to add further features and correct any other outstanding issues.

For me personally, I've had a real busy time with work outside of iClone. I also have been maintaining my duties on the Reallusion forum which I enjoy so much. Along with all that I had iClone3 to play with so the result of this has shamefully meant that this blog has been very quiet over the last few weeks.

Well now things should be getting a little quieter for me work wise, so my big hope is that iClone Daily can wake from its slumber and begin to offer a little more in terms of news and views. No promises mind, things have a habit of biting me in a** when I say this, but hopefully it will. Stay tuned.

iClone 3 Has Arrived

Well it's finally here. The long awaited full retail version of iClone 3 has shipped to the masses. The big release on the great sounding 08-08-08 turned out to be an actual 09-08-08 (or 08-09-08 depending where you live). Now who's counting right? Well lot's of people if the Reallusion forum was anything to go by. It was pretty insane on the forum where nearly everyone took the delay in good spirits and seemed to have fun with some real crazy postings taking place while they camped out for the long haul. It was good fun ride considering the disappointment over the delay.

What wasn't so good was that once it did get released, came the agonizing wait for the program to download. The installer weighed in at around 375mb, that's not counting the extra 300+mb resource file and man I was getting a mind numbing 10KB/Sec which is not good at all. It wasn't so bad for me because I already had the Beta still installed but I really felt for those who had been waiting so long for this only to be met with 8 hour+ download times.

Anyway I finally got the retail version fully downloaded today at around 6pm and now I'm up and running properly. I'll be posting more about iClone 3 over the coming days as you can imagine, but for now I just want to say that this really is an amazing piece of software. If you have even a slight interest in 3D then you need this program. The possibilities are truly out of this world.

The long awaited official release date for iClone 3.0 has been announced. This brand new version of iClone will debut on the 8th August 2008. Modern War Soldiers

Many moons ago a sneak preview was posted on the Reallusion forum entitled "Top Gun is Back". The preview showed a Navy Aviator standing in front of a F-14 Tomcat and immediately generated a lot of interest among forum members.

Well finally after a long, long wait these packs have finally been released under the banner "Moder War Soldiers" and without doubt it has been worth the wait. Rather than one large pack we now have four packs, each featuring a single soldier along with their personal accessories like helmets, caps, guns etc. They also include some great poses to get you started.

I know I seem to say it every time but in this pack we see some of the most detailed textures ever seen in an iClone pack and they really blew me away with the detail and realism. The team at Reallusion really deserve a big pat on the backs for this one. They have really excelled themselves yet again. Click the image above to see a detailed look at the GSG-9 textures.

Call Of Duty 4 and iClone???

What have the game Call Of Duty 4 and iClone 3.0 got in common. Well if you know how to control your character in the PC version of COD4 or any other First Person Shooter for that matter, then you already know how to control, record and animate your iClone 3.0 characters.

Gone are the days of figuring out walk paths. The new Director Mode in iClone 3.0 is going to revolutionize the way you make your movies, just by pressing those W, A, S, D keys.

iClone 3.0 Test Video

With iClone 3.0 now scheduled for release in August 2008 I have put together a little test video showing how easy is it is to setup a series of animations in Director Mode and change camera postioning in seconds. It is just a test video, no audio but gives a tiny sample of what is to come.

The bumper collection pack contains 9 full 3D scenes and an incredible 188 props which can be used to make your very own iClone film studio. The pack is from one of Reallusion's talented CCD developers, Hana Montana.

The whole collection will set you back $149.95 but if that is too much for you in one go, don't worry because each of the 9 sets is available on its own for a very reasonable $19.95.

The 9 sets are Classic Living Room, Bali Living Room, Japanese Living Room, Laconic Living Room, Mediterranean Bedroom, Yuppie Bedroom, Nightclub, Modern Boardroom and Laconic Bathroom. Of course if you have the whole collection or more than one pack then you can mix and match the furniture props to make any kind of set you like. You are not limited to the styles mentioned above.

Another important part of these packs is the "filmset" style the props can be used in. Rather than fixed rooms, each one can be rearranged with walls removed and repositioned to enable different camera angles to be used in true studio style. This aspect is absolutely fantastic and makes a real difference when trying to get that right camera shot in a closed in environment.

Citizen Extras Pack - Only $40.17

One of the best packs of recent months to me was the Citizen Extras Pack which featured low poly "extras" for iClone. Now although the characters are only 4000 polys they are certainly not low in quality and look incredibly good as extras for your scenes or indeed as main characters. They are that good.

Now I have to admit there were some disappointments with the pack. For some reason they can't be re textured and this is a real shame and a missed opportunity I feel. It would have been a real bonus to be able to add even more variety with custom textures but alas it is not possible.

On the plus side you do get 6 different character styles (3 men, 3 women) with a total of 30 texture variations that are really, really good quality. Best of all the pack is now on sale for an incredible $40.17 which is simply fantastic value for money. I wholeheartedly recommend this pack so why not grab it for this great price while you still can.

Finally more news on iClone 3.0 is out. First the important release date has been given as July 2008. Just three months and this whole new edition of iClone should be upon us.

Now I'm pretty stoked about this and if you head over to iClone.tv you can check out the first details of the new features. Real time character puppeteering, XML based "Dramascripts", Recordable walk and fly cams and In scene motion editing are just a few of the incredible goodies coming our way. Exciting times ahead.

20,000 Members And Growing

Recently the number of members of the Reallusion Forum passed 20,000. To me this an incredible landmark. When I first joined the forum there were about 2,000 members so the growth has been incredible in such a short space of time. Congratulations to all the team at Reallusion for the fantastic job they have done with iClone and Crazytalk. Here's to the continued success and growth of these groundbreaking software titles. Project Sharing Scripts

With the recent releases of the City Elements and the 100 Years War Theme Packs the situation with the way projects are handled in iClone has got me thinking. These new packs have offered an incredible selection of props that enable complex scenes to be built within iClone that can take a lot of planning and a long time to complete. Some truly impressive urban landscapes or medieval battlefields can be created and it is incredibly satisfying to see it all come together in the finished project. Saving the project for personal use is not a problem and one click and it is yours for use any time you like.

The problem comes if you would like to share your complex masterpiece with others. Say you wanted to put up your project on a website for others to use saving them a lot of time in the creation process. Currently iClone saves all the contents of the project in the project.vns itself so it's an absolute no no to share this project file with anyone else because you would be giving away the content to someone who may not have purchased the packs in the first place.

So at present you simply can't share projects with anyone else and this is a shame because projects are like complete movie sets and having a library of pre-built movie sets that users could download would be a real bonus and time saver. For new iClone users who have yet to grasp the complexities of scene creation this would be a great way for them to see what can be done with iClone.

So is there an answer? Well possibly. If a way could be found to save a project script rather than a file that contains all the physical items etc. Say we could save a text script that contains a complete list of everything and the locations in the scene. This would be a small file that could easily be shared and then if the person who receives the script has the content in their library the scene will be recreated just by clicking a load button. To make it easier the process would just ignore any props or accessories that the user doesn't own and create the scene without them rather than throwing up an error message. Pretty cool yes?

Now lets be clear this is just me as an iClone fanatic dreaming. This isn't, to the best of my knowledge even in the works but I wonder what you think? Would this be useful to any iClone users out there? If you have an opinion why not post a comment and let me know.

Film The World Competition

Reallusion are currently running a fantastic new competition entitled Film The World. From now to the 28th May 2008 you have the chance to win some really impressive prizes by making use of iClone, 3DXchange and Google Earth to put together a video featuring a landmark from around the world.

To make it possible for everyone to enter there is a special free competition version of iClone available which will give you 45 days in which to make your video and present it for review. There is also a trial version of 3DXchange 2.0 available so that you can convert the landmark from Google Earth and use it in iClone.

It really is a great idea so kudos to the team at Reallusion for coming up with such a novel idea. This is a competition that everyone can enter and really let your imagination go wild with it. The prizes are impressive too with an Ipod Touch, Digital Camera, Web Cam as well as full versions of iClone, Crazytalk and 3DXchange 2.0 up for grabs.

Medieval Pack Update

I had planned on posting yesterday but I have been so engrossed trying out the fantastic Hundred Years War Theme Pack that didn't get it done. Now I have had time to check out the pack I'm even more impressed now than I was when it was first announced and I saw those screenshots. It's a big pack, 230mb so if you are on a slow connection it may take a time to download. I detailed the content in my previous post but in addition there are 3 sample project files featuring archers firing their weapons.

This really is like a mini movie studio in one pack. Everything is here to make your historical based movie, and for anyone who has an interest in these things it's an absolute must. I know the price tag may put some people off but the sheer amount of content is enormous, and of a really high standard. The look of the castle scene and props, to the armour of the soldiers is spot on and really bring the battlefield to life.

The castle comes complete or in parts so you can build your scene any way you like. The horses are live props so you can animate them as you can the siege weapons. All the animations you will need for your infantry and cavalry are included so some fantastic battles can be created. Check out the demo movie I posted previously to see this in action.

There is one small problem and that is that the 100+ motions do not show up in the Motion Editor library which makes editing the motions a little tricky. There is a workaround for this that involves using the "Merge" command to add the motions to the library but it would be nice to get this resolved soon. The problem only affects the Motion Editor. All animations are present within iClone itself so you have no worries there.

All in all another incredible pack from the talented team at Reallusion.
