1st Berg/Seeger Classic

Thomas Withrow shares the moments from the 1st Berg/Seeger Classic at the Texas School for the Deaf, Austin on April 5, 2008. The event was a big success.

The event was named to honor 2 legends - Coach Tom Berg and Coach Ruth Seeger.

USADTF wishes to thank Hawk Relay for their wonderful support of the event and organization. Also, other great sponsors were CSD, CSDVRS, Texas Association for the Deaf (TAD) and TSD Booster Club.

The DeafNation.com sent a cameraman to film the event and interviews by the former Deaflympians, including Coach Ruth and Coach Tom. Go to www.deafnation.com and view the special videos.

About 35 former Deaflympians(track field) came to visit with the coaches as well as filling the gap between former Deaflympians and those athletes

1st Berg/Seeger Classic this weekend!

Hi All!

The 1st Berg/Seeger Classic is finally coming up this weekend in Austin, Texas. USADTF thanks the Texas School for the Deaf for hosting the special event.

At this moment, we have 9 teams coming to compete along with 3 mainstreamed athletes. We should see some real exciting competition this Saturday.

Some 40 former Track/Field Deaflympians will be attending the meet and to visit with Coach Tom Berg and Coach Ruth Seeger. Coach Tom and Coach Ruth live close to TSD.

Results will be posted on our website, www.usadtf.org after the meeting.

USADTF wishes to thank Hawk Relay for their generous support. We also have others to thank for their contributions. They are CSD, Texas School for the Deaf Booster Club, Texas Association for the Deaf, CSDVRS and a few others.

DeafNation will be filming the event! Historical moment will be preserved!

Tom Berg/Ruth Seeger Classic

USADTF is very excited and proud to announce that we will have our first Tom Berg/Ruth Seeger Classic on April 5, 2008 at the Texas School for the Deaf.

We have Clerc Classic (basketball), Hoy Classic (baseball/softball) and Spike Out (volleyball) every year. Nothing for track and field! We voted to have an annual classic and we selected to name the classic Tom Berg/Ruth Seeger to honor two legnedary icons in Deaf track and field world. They have coached so many outstanding Deaflympians, athletes, and persons for over 40 years.

The Tom Berg/Ruth Seeger Classic will be open to all HS athletes from both schools for the Deaf and mainstreamed system.

An official announcement with all information will be sent out in Janurary.

The 1st World Athletics Championships this coming Fall has changed sites. Please go to this link and read the information.

USADTF will work on a plan to take a team to Izmir, Turkey from 24-28 September 2008. Keep an eye out for more information. Athletes, talk with your coaches and discuss this exciting event.

So far, we have invited those athletes to the USA Team for 2008 and 2009. Those athletes have either met or exceed the criteria to be on the team. The criteria is based on 4th finish average of the previous 2 Deaflympics - 2001 and 2005.

The team will grow as athletes meet the criteria or are invited by the USA Coaches.
