Wing Night-Fundraiser for the Shriner's Hospital

Emma enjoyed bringing her kids out to the WingNight at the Moose Lodge last
Saturday. Blake has been a patient at the Shriner's Hospital and had his third
hand surgery this last week.

Thanks to all the Hot Mamas,their Wing Men, Moose members, families and friends from our community who came to support this Benefit Fundraiser for the Shriners Hospital.

Remembering Barbara Rendon

RENDON, Barbara Ann (Ratto)
June 27, 1927 - May 15, 2009

Barbara was born in Stockton to Georgia (Rossi) and John Ratto. ''Johnnie's'' early death when Barbara was 10 years old was a loss that had a lifelong effect. She grew up to be a beautiful, outgoing woman with a deep need to give and receive love. She is remembered by all who have known her as an energetic and caring person who brought life and a spirit of fun to every encounter.

After her father's death, Barbara was cared for by her Nona Rossi at their home on Scotts Ave. Her mom's marriage to Floyd Dunlap gave Barbara a stepdad who would be a support through much of her life. In her senior year of high school, she met Rumaldo ''Ronnie'' Rendon, the man who would be her life partner for 36 years. Barbara graduated from Stockton High School, and worked at the Naval Annex. She married Ronnie at the age of 22, and gave birth to her daughter Shareen Georgia in 1948. Ronnie's sons Ron and Carlos, joined the young family. The early years of marriage were difficult, raising three small children on very limited money, requiring Barbara to quickly learn skills as a homemaker and mother. For several years she worked at the Richmond Chase Cannery under the watchful supervision of her beloved Uncle Tony Ratto. Ronnie became a longshoreman at the Port of Stockton, establishing a career and many friendships - that would carry the couple through to his death in 1984. Barbara also worked as an inspector at the Diamond Walnut plant in Stockton, commuting from her new home in West Sacramento, until her daughter graduated from college. There with her dearest friend, Alfreida ''Fritze'' Watson, and a lively group of women, she worked hard, formed strong bonds, and brought a little playfulness to every day. After her retirement, Barbara and Ronnie traveled far and wide in their motor home, having countless adventures and good times with their friends. Seeing the world, connecting with people, enjoying food, drink, and life's beauty these were Barbara's passions. After surviving breast cancer, Barbara became active in the support group, Encore, where she made many new friendships. She also was active in Dr. Bodai's campaign for breast cancer awareness, the Wall of Hope at the State Capitol, the Breast Art and Education Project, and Reach to Recovery. She volunteered for the Children's Home at the Casa Garden Restaurant, the ''Eagles'' Special Olympics golf group, and the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, where she displayed her typical flair and joy in life. For the past 13 years, Barbara lived in her home in Campus Commons, Sacramento. She was an enthusiastic member of the Cadillac Drivers Golf Club, continued to travel at every opportunity, and kept up her activities with friends and family. Her relationship with her daughter Shareen and son-in-law Larry Stanfill was an ongoing source of joy and comfort. In her last weeks of life, the family was blessed with the special care and support of Manu Biantubukoso and Vani Leyaleyadi, and of the fine people with Yolo Hospice. Barbara died peacefully at the Rendon-Stanfill home in the evening of May 15. She is and will be deeply loved and greatly missed.

Friends are welcome for visitation on Thursday, April 21, from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at W.F. Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento. A memorial gathering will be held this Friday, May 22, at 11:30 a.m. at the Newman Catholic Community Center, 5900 Newman Court, across from Calif. State University. Following a procession to Stockton, graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, 719 Harding Way. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that donations in Barbara's honor be made to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95617, or to The Breast Cancer Research Program, 300 Lakeside Dr., Oakland, CA 94612.

Eleanor Johnson passed away on May 31, 2009. Eleanor was Senior Regent of the West Sacramento Women of the Moose in 1976-77.

Eleanor Johnston, Rock Port, Mo. // 1920 - 2009

ROCK PORT, Mo. — Eleanor Johnston, 88, of Rock Port, passed away May 31, 2009, at a Maryville care center. She was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Hatton, N.D. In May of 1937, she was married to Thomas Church. He later passed away. Eleanor then married Henry Johnston in May of 1964. He also preceded her in death. She moved to Rock Port five and a half years ago to be close to her family and to enjoy the many little ones. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Alice (Brogan) Enger; husbands, Thomas and Henry; sister, Calette and her husband, Alvin Berg; and brothers, Willis, Allen, and Donald Enger.She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Connie Church of Verdigre, Neb.; daughters and sons-in-law: LaDonna and Richard Pankau of Rock Port; and Calette and Bobbie Jordan of Anniston, Ala.; step daughters: Marnie Woolery of Cotton, Calif.; Carla Virgo of Yuba City, Calif.; and Sheryl Nichols of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters: Dorothy Verwoest of Fresno, Calif.; and Helen Enger of Columbia, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Memorial services: Sunday, 1 p.m., at the First Christian Church of Rock Port. Memorials: First Christian Church. Care entrusted to Chamberlain Funeral Home & Monuments, Rock Port.

Kid's Movie Night

Remembering Evelyn McComb

Evelyn McComb passed away on 5-23-09. A dear friend, Evelyn was a charter member and the first Senior Regent of West Sacramento Chapter Women of the Moose. Many of her friends at the Lodge lovingly referred to Evelyn as "Mama Moose".

Passed away in Sacramento on May 23, 2009, aged 89 years. She is survived by daughter, Susan (Micheal) Gerringer; son, William (Lois) Merkley; grand- children, Michelle (John) Masten Herrera, Machelle Martinez, Stone and Ridge Merkley; great-grandchildren, Kylie Masten, Thomas Herrera, Elijah and Reece Martinez; step-great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Adriana and John Herrera. Also, survived by nieces, Carol (Wayne) Lingenfelter and Sharon (John) Muir. She was employed by the State of California, EDD and Water Resources, for 37 years. She was born in Bryte, graduated from Woodland High School and a local business college. She was a resident of West Sacramento for over 83 years. She was an active member of the Women of Moose, Chapter #1431 of West Sacramento for over 50 years and a Charter Member of Eagles Aux. #9. Private graveside services with inurnment in St. Mary's Cemetery conducted by River Cities Funeral Chapel.

The Macias Family Celebrates 42 Years in Business in West Sacramento

The Macias Family and Crest Jewelers have been an institution in West Sacramento for over 42 years. The original store was opened by Luis Macias and was located on Merkley Avenue. Adelina and Luis met and were married in Tucumcari, New Mexico. They moved to Sacramento and Lou apprenticed at Werner Jewelers for ten years before opening his own store in 1967. Ten years later they relocated the store to the present location (next to Safeway) where Lou, Adelina, Rose, Steve and Chris Macias have made a great team running this family business.

When you visit the store they make you feel so welcome. Adelina and Luis have turned over the day to day operation of the store to their sons, Steve and Chris, but you can still find the folks at the store most days. Adelina greets the customers by name as they come in the door and Luis can usually be found reading or snoozing in his office. When you stop by, be sure to ask Adelina about the photos on the wall, the antique Singer sewing machine, and her collection of New Mexican Indian artifacts that she has on display.

Remembering Bette Lake

Bette Lake was a Charter Member of the West Sacramento Chapter Women of
the Moose and was the second Senior Regent (1957-58). Bette passed away
on Friday, March 6, 2009 and will be remembered for her dedication and love
for her Moose Chapter and friends.

Entered into eternal rest March 6, 2009. Beloved wife of 39 years to Richard ''Dick'' Lake; loving mother of Sharon (Brown) Muir & dear mother-in-law to John Muir. Mom was a devoted grandmother to Nathan & Nik Prawdzik & great-grandmother to Kai Alexander Prawdzik; has numerous surviving stepchildren, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, her half brother, Wally Merkley & friends. Born December 28, 1932 in Sacramento, Mary has been a resident of West Sacramento since 1992 at which time she and Dick moved to Sacramento. She was an active member of the Women of Moose, Chapter #1431 of West Sacramento for over 50 years. Visitation hours will be Wednesday, March 11, 2009 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm at the River Cities Funeral Chapel. All are invited to attend funeral services on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 10:00am, also in the funeral home chapel. Private entombment St. Mary's Cemetery.
