It's been a little over 2 months now since we adopted Sasha and so far everything is going GREAT!! Her and Misha are attached at the hip and one can't live without the other. Although it took my heart some time to heal from Dima's passing, I can honestly say that Sasha has definitely helped to make it feel better. It's still really hard for me to think of my teddy bear because I still miss him so very much. Having Sasha around though has brought back a smile to my face and I love her for it. Although she is still very hyper, she has mellowed out quite a <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R_u2c6V93sI/AAAAAAAABWw/Ke7uHGSI_l0/s200/P1030145.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186940003661242050" />bit. Her and Misha have both learned to share and don't really go after each other when given special treats (one of their all time favorites are pig ears). We're still working on training her to sit, lay down, etc, etc, but believe it or not, Chris was able to teach her to play dead just like I taught Misha!! She definitely needs to practice more but overall I think she's well on her way to becoming a proper lady.

Attached are some pictures that I took of the two of them with my sister. As you can see they're very touchy-feely. Oh and yes, Sasha is a huge couch potato."

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R_u2raV93tI/AAAAAAAABW4/dtULdQq3mEk/s200/P1030151.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186940252769345234" /> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R_u2yqV93uI/AAAAAAAABXA/eQ7Yxl-gACs/s200/P1030152.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186940377323396834" /> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R_u29qV93vI/AAAAAAAABXI/xrJZPwZZnSI/s200/P1030155.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186940566301957874" /> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R_u3EKV93wI/AAAAAAAABXQ/5cs654HC0-M/s200/P1030158.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186940677971107586" />

Foster Dogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09642976628852566499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30885689.post-29092678102200103672008-04-08T13:59:00.004-04:002008-04-08T14:10:37.042-04:00Update from Isis' New Family<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R_u0R6V93mI/AAAAAAAABWA/tcdclOETc3U/s320/Isis+001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186937615659425378" />We got an update from the family that adopted Isis! Here is what they had to say.

"Isis is doing really well. She had one accident in the house the first day and since then she has been perfect about signaling when she needs to go out. I have been leaving her crated for short periods of time just to get her used to it for when I go back to work next week. At first Isis cried for about 15 minutes, but she's crying less and less each time. Isis is really blossoming, she is becoming more talkative. She loves playing with our daughter, she actually fetches toys and brings them back!

I took her to doggie day care, her first day was just a half day to see how it went. The staff said she did great, she firmly but nicely let a German Shepherd know to leave her alone, and passed out as soon as she got in the car on the way home.

I take her running each morning, she is running for a longer period of time, 45 minutes instead of half an hour and Isis loves it. I bought her a harness to use when we go jogging."

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R_u0mqV93nI/AAAAAAAABWI/i3XBUQ1YjMo/s200/Isis+010.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186937972141710962" /> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R_u0w6V93oI/AAAAAAAABWQ/7_oInX7fj4U/s200/Isis+022.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186938148235370114" /> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R_u04qV93pI/AAAAAAAABWY/Ks-u_A4BhY4/s200/Isis+023.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186938281379356306" /> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R_u0-aV93qI/AAAAAAAABWg/FOwHfE629Hc/s200/Isis+035.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186938380163604130" />

Foster Dogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09642976628852566499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30885689.post-15379931701039243872008-03-28T22:45:00.005-04:002008-03-28T22:53:24.283-04:00Update on Trey and Cheyenne! We got an update from Trey and Cheyenne's dad! His foster mom says:

"Bandit is continuing to come out of his shell, he's such a little monkey. He is still working on his man issues: lately his response is sitting down, barking and howling. Pete's step dad came to visit this past weekend and that's how Bandit greeted him, but within 10 minutes he was up in his lap! (I asked him if he wore sausage cologne to make Bandit more comfortable!)

We were supposed to start school last weekend, but my trainer had the stomach flu so we will be starting this Saturday. He is a piece of cake to work with inside and I've been able to do quite a bit of training, but outside he is completely not interested. He is terrible on leash, and actually goes insane when I get the leash out. Until he learns some better leash manners our dog walker is just bringing her dog over to play with Sky and Bandit in the yard.

He and Sky will continue to go to daycare, but he's getting a little bratty there.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R8TCNZw7YpI/AAAAAAAABSY/ys6WHufkKPc/s320/Bandit+and+Sky+same+bed.jpg" border="0" alt="click to enlarge"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5171471807638364818" /> He's getting a little nippy with the smaller dogs (which is kind of funny considering he lets our cat boss him around...hmmm, maybe that's why...he's taking it out on the little dogs). When Sky gets tired she goes to the "geriatric room" and passes out on the futon; when Bandit gets tired he hides under the futon and waits for dogs to run by and reaches out and grabs their legs!! He's a little stinker!

Speaking of stinker, we have (seemingly) gotten to the bottom of the middle of the night visits. We tried ignoring him a couple of nights ago and he was so good, just went back downstairs. But he was moving around a lot and we could hear his tags jingling so Pete went down to check on him and the poor thing had the runs. :( He was soooo upset and Pete felt terrible! Needless to say, the next 4 times he came to get us that night we didn't ignore him!

I gave him homemade anti-runs meals and he seemed to be feeling better, so last night when he came to get us 2 hours after going to bed we ignored him...and, he came to curl up on the floor right next to me for the rest of the night. This morning Pete found another pile of presents in the bathroom (at least he's polite enough to go on the tile!). So, he's been getting homemade meals again and will <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R8TChpw7YqI/AAAAAAAABSg/7Dcv5VSupv0/s320/Sky+and+Bandit+snow.jpg" border="0" alt="click to enlarge"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5171472155530715810" />continue to for several days and it looks like I'll have to try a different food. Poor baby, hopefully once we get his bowels happy he'll sleep better.

We're just smitten with Bandit and thrilled to death that he's here with us. We will work hard over the next several months on obedience training. I've already talked to my trainer about trying to work with both of the dogs in harness, but we'll probably wait until he's better on leash. Hopefully by summer I'll be able to start with the two of them and be ready for next winter!"

Congratulations to Bandit and his new family!

Foster Dogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09642976628852566499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30885689.post-13448259976101851542008-02-12T21:09:00.000-05:002008-02-12T21:44:50.615-05:00Chloe the Samoyed<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R7JVQZw7X4I/AAAAAAAABLU/2mr4e4TTFJ8/s320/Chloe3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5166285462829752194" />In mid December 2007, we were contacted by a young man in Baltimore Maryland. His girlfriend had moved out and he worked full time and went to school part time, and his Samoyed Chloe spent a lot of time alone. She wasn't getting enough exercise or attention and he knew she needed a home where she would get the love and attention that she deserved and needed. He sent us her vet records and photos and we put her up on our web site. Soon we had several adoption applications for Chloe!

Her owner drove up to Delaware to meet a volunteer who brought her to Pennsylvania. She spent the night at a kennel, and the next day two of our volunteers took her on an adoption. Chloe found a wonderful home, where she has a Samoyed brother and three little dog siblings. Chloe's new family knew that Chloe would need some special care - she was quite overweight and her coat was pretty matted. They put her on a diet and gave her a little time to settle in. She may look a little funny right now, but she's already lost 10 pounds. Her makeover will be finished in no time! Kiana is still doing wonderfully and she and Doogan just seem to absolutely love each other. Doogan is still being very mouthy and we are now trying new ways to change this problem behavior. We are now trying the citronella spray both on our hands and each time he bites. It certainly seems to be working. He loves sitting outside and going for runs with us along the hiking trails here (we use our bikes along with a doggie backpack to really get him pooped! He LOVES IT!) He is also putting on some weight, he is now 62 lbs. I did have to change him back to the organic non allergen food however, and it seems to be helping with his itching. Yes, SHAVED. Who knows why, but his former owner had him shaved before they turned him in to the shelter.

Now his coat has grown in and he looks beautiful and so happy! Legend's dad says:

"Legend and Bear have been doing wonderful. I am finally getting my sunroom all finished just for them so they have their own room to stay in and make their castle finally. They have been having run of the house which is ok to a point but they have really liked having their own place where everyone stays out of it and they can just lounge around.

Legend has been going to the groomers and he has LOVED it, they have had no issues with him at all and that worried me with his shaving that was done to him. I laugh every time I see this large Husky being silly with my Himalayan cat and side stepping Barney since Legend thinks he is going to get beat up."

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R640oJw7XpI/AAAAAAAABJc/L8l3-wWaXBY/s200/Legend+3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5165123687061085842" />Congratulations to Legend and his family! Nica's first birthday was not so great. Her name then was Abby, and on her first birthday she becamse a Harnessed to Hope foster dog. Well, Abby's name is now Nica, and her new owner just loves her! Here is what she said.

"Nica is doing so well!! She is such a spoiled two year old. She has her daddy wrapped around her little paw!! Nica brought so much love into our lives and we can't imagine our world without her! She's is the perfect dog! Nick and I are sooo lucky and we love her so much! I enclosed a couple pictures so you can see how well she's doing. She is such a happy dog. I have yet to see growl or snarl. I can take food right out of her mouth! She is such a sweetheart. There literally is not one mean bone in her body! Everyone who meets her wants to take her home, and when we take her for walks, so many people stop to comment on how beautiful and cute she is! All three cats get along well with the dog as well. We have a great family unit going here!"

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R64ki5w7XlI/AAAAAAAABI8/tPVp4jRuhRA/s200/Nica+on+couch.jpg" border="0" alt="click to enlarge"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5165106004680728146" />Here is Nica relaxing with her dad and one of her cat siblings.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/R64kyJw7XmI/AAAAAAAABJE/o8Ab0VvrEno/s320/Nica+Christmas+photo.jpg" border="0" alt="click to enlarge"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5165106266673733218" />And here is Nica in the family Christmas photo! Here is the update:

Blizz is doing very well. He and Kodi, their first husky, still play nonstop - "it sounds like we have a herd of horses going up and down the stairs" Pattie says. She says they never knew Kodi had such a playful side - apparently she instigates most of the time - it took getting another dog to bring that out in her.

Blizz is a cuddle-monster who knows that Dad doesn't want him on the couch
but Mom will allow him to get away with his front legs up there. He also
hops up into bed with his mom the second his dad has gotten up. He is
eating well, getting big, chewing less (by my math, according to my vet's
age estimates, Yeva's pups are all turning 1 right around now). Still a
little shy with Vince but better all the time. Loves the snow. He and Kodi
do pull on walks; I've recommended the Easy Walk Harness and they plan to
buy a couple when they have some spare cash lying around.

Not sure anyone still here knew this, but Kodi was a stray husky who had
bad demodectic mange when she adopted Vince like a year or so ago. Pattie
says that Kodi just had her first zero mite count so one more of those and
she's done with treatment! This is wonderful news, but Blizzard was not
happy about having to stay in his crate alone while Kodi went to the
vet.... just howled after them as they left. Sounds like he really loves
his new family and his new home.

And they love him. Pattie said "They're my kids. They might have 4 legs not
2, but they're my kids."

Congratulations to Blizzard and his new family!

Foster Dogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09642976628852566499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30885689.post-62680536389610534452008-01-28T20:14:00.000-05:002008-01-28T20:17:14.075-05:00Congratulations Ms. Lucie

Lucie's owner writes:

"Lucie got her CGC Certificate last May, 2007 at the Animal Protective Foundation (the shelter where I volunteer), and I had neglected to actually send in for the official certificate. Here is what she said:

"Tonight Loki and I went on our nightly walk. It seemed like a normal night until we were about to come in. As we were walking down the street we heard what I thought was two cats fighting and it made Loki stop and refuse to move. My first thought was to get him in the house and something told me to go and check it out. Here it was a baby on a doorstep. We called the police and it looks like the baby is going to be OK. The police said he wasn't out there long and he was still warm. Needless to say Loki got some extra treats tonight and tommorow Kenny and I will be taking him for an extra special present. Yet another reason why I am so thankful for Loki to be in our lives. This poor girl had a very sad story. Her owner's husband passed away, and her owner had to sell her home and move in with her son, and could not keep her dogs due to the limit of dogs per household. Poor Sasha had gone on a couple of adoptions, but was just so attached to her owner that she really wasn't interested in anyone else. Yesterday, some of our volunteers picked Sasha up and drove her to an adoption in New Jersey. Here is what our volunteer says about the adoption:

OS Sasha was adopted today by Laura and George Y. and their 17 year old son Alex in Hackettstown, NJ. They have an 11 year old male Sibe that got along fine with Sasha. Sasha was very scared and nervous when we first got there but you could see her starting to relax the longer we were we there. We knew she was feeling at home when she jumped up on the sofa and made herself at home. The Youngs are VERY Husky savvy and we have no doubt they will be an awesome home for Sasha. Alex has already asked his mom if Sasha can sleep in his room so that is where they are putting her crate. I have a sneaky feeling that she will probably end up curled up next to him in his bed. :) We are sooooo happy that Sasha has finally found a home. A big thanks to Kelly K for picking up Sasha from Jean and making the long drive to NJ with me.

Here is Sasha on the deck with her new brother:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/RyVNIcFEQZI/AAAAAAAAA1I/lmMdETVTBYM/s320/Sasha+new+family.jpg" border="0" alt="Click to enlarge"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5126588558202913170" />The volunteer who rand the adoption called the family today and they said that everything is going very well, and Sasha slept through the night and ate her dinner last night and her meals today with no problem. We are so thrilled for Sasha!

Foster Dogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09642976628852566499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30885689.post-32569079102065853392007-09-23T16:35:00.000-04:002007-09-23T16:41:17.591-04:00Blizzard's First Day in His New Home<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/RvbPRM5j2rI/AAAAAAAAAnU/2DO5qP-hwOI/s320/Blizzard+at+home+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5113502321353153202" />Blizzard was adopted yesterday by Vince and Patty in Philadelphia, PA. She is indeed fast - our neighbor can't believe her speed when she races around our yard like a crazy thing. We play a game with her and have her race through the house at times to burn off her excess energy, and a couple of our cats race along with her (or tumbling underneath her, depending on how quickly she turns when they're not ready). Her day is not complete, however, until she gets her walk every night (I take her 1 1/2 miles or so every night); then she's down for the count. My daughter met a woman on her walk one day that had a female Siberian; she came over one evening and we just let them run husky style in the yard - they had a blast.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/Rsx8EUlDdXI/AAAAAAAAAgM/I2ezaycLJBE/s200/Luce+by+camper.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5101588891589375346" />We've taken her camping a couple more times since I last talked to you. The first trip, as we were getting ready, she seemed anxio us leaving. I always feel at first the rescues think they're just moving onto another place sometimes. Now when she sees her "camping duffle" come out and we tell her she's going camping, she gets SO excited, and has to keep checking out what's going in her bag. The last trip we took her on (just a couple weeks ago), there was a shallow stream alongside our site in the woods - so <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/Rsx8KUlDdYI/AAAAAAAAAgU/0dXORX5C2Go/s200/Lucie+in+stream.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5101588994668590466" />she was stream walking (or bounding as it may be) with us through the water.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_o6fwee21M_8/Rsx8TUlDdZI/AAAAAAAAAgc/btv52GMdW_k/s200/Lucie+on+couch.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5101589149287413138" />I'm sending a few pics from our trips and when she crashes at the end of each day (both home and camping) for you to see your girl."

Lucie just looks so incredibly happy!

Foster Dogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09642976628852566499noreply@blogger.com
