CLICK here for Photos !</a><br /><br /><br />Lailatul Qadr : The Night of Power<br /><br />Qadr means honour and dignity. Lailatul Qadr means the night of honour and dignity. It is this night in which the first Divine Revelation came to the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam, when he was in prayer in the cave of Hira. Since this night enjoys the honour of having the first revelation brought to the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam, it has been named Lailatul Qadr.<br /><br />This is one of the holiest and most blessed nights, which is likely to occur on one of the odd nights on the last ten days of Ramadhan and most likely to be the 27th. The reward of worship on this night is better than the worship of a thousand months of worship, equivalent to a person's lifetime. So, on this night one should pray nafil namaz, recite the Quran, do Tasbih, Zikr, Duas, etc as much as possible.<br /><br />This night had already opened its gates of treasures when the angel for the first time had come with the Divine Message in the cave of Hira, but its auspiciousness has continued to be with us permanently. Every year in the month of Ramadhan, this night is given to the Ummah. Muslims engage in prayers, recitation of Quran and praying to Allah, as the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam said: "The person who offered prayers to Allah in the night of Dignity with faith and with hope of reward from Allah, all his past sins have been forgiven." (Bukhaari)<br /><br />As the rainy season is suitable for farming, similarly for the attainment of nearness to Allah, specific times , specific days and specific nights are most suitable, e.g. the time of Tahajjud prayers, Friday prayers, month of Ramadhan, the Day of Arafah, etc. So also the Night of Power is the most suitable night for attaining nearness to Allah.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.kingstonmosque.org.uk/LailatulQadr.htm">source : www.kingstonmosque.org.uk </a><br /><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:130%;">***************************** </span></strong><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Worldwide use</strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">Things found on the way</span></strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">HAIKU</span></strong></span><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><br />Lailatul Qadr -<br />A million stars unwatched<br />over the Holy Book<br /></span><br />Heike Gewi, Yemen, September 2008<br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************</strong></span><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Related words</strong></span><br /><br />***** <a href="http://worldkigo2005.blogspot.com/2006/06/ramadan.html">Ramadan</a><br /><br />***** <a href="http://kenyasaijiki.blogspot.com/2006/06/ramadan-ends-idd-ul-fitr.html">Idd ul Fitr (Ramadan ends)</a> Kenya. It generally consists of a fried triangular- or tetrahedron-shaped pastry shell with a savory filling of spiced potatoes, onion, peas, coriander, and sometimes fresh paneer. In a variety called chamul they are also very popular in Portugal.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Etymology</span><br />The word <strong>samosa</strong> can be traced to the Persian '<strong>sanbosag</strong>'. The name in other countries also derives from this root, such as the crescent-shaped sanbusak or sanbusaj in Arab countries, sambosa in Afghanistan, samsa in Turkish-speaking nations, sambusa in parts of Iran and chamul in Goa and Portugal.<br /><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samosa"><span style="font-size:85%;">© More in the WIKIPEDIA !</span></a><br /><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:130%;">***************************** </span></strong><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Worldwide use</strong></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>Kenya</strong> </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Kenyan samosas!<br /></span><br />The folding of the dough is not quite the same though... otherwise, the looks are exactly the same -- and indeed in Kenya too they are either meat or vegetable in variety.<br /><br />The <strong>Indian samosas</strong> sometimes come with a thick pastry, which is not my favourite -- but the thin, crispy pastry of the Kenyan samosa, together with its well spiced filling, and a drop of lime juice to round it off, is one of my top favourite foods!<br /><br />In Kenya, I do not believe that it is at all seasonal -- we love it and enjoy it at any time of the year. Interestingly, the Kenyan samosa is something you buy, a snack for lunch or at a roadside cafe -- I do not think that I have ever eaten a home made samosa...<br /><br /><a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kigohotline/message/1036">Isabelle Prondzynski </a>, September 2008<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">Things found on the way</span></strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">HAIKU</span></strong></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Samosas<br />Are nice and tasty,<br />Whereas<br />Pies are just pasty!<br /></span><br /><a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aldona-net/message/4286">DAILY HAIKU #30: Francis Rodrigues</a> Goa, India<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************</strong></span><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Related words</strong></span><br /><br />***** <a href="http://kenyasaijiki.blogspot.com/2006/06/ramadan-ends-idd-ul-fitr.html">Idd ul Fitr (Ramadan ends)</a> Kenya.<br />Eid Al-Fitr, Eid ul-Fitr<br /><br /><a href="http://worldkigo2005.blogspot.com/2006/06/ramadan.html">Ramadan</a><br /><br />***** <a href="http://kenyasaijiki.blogspot.com/"><span style="font-size:130%;">KENYA and Tropical Saijiki </span></a><br /><br /><br />***** <a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/2008/01/yemen.html">YEMEN SAIJIKI</a><br /><br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><strong>Back to the Worldkigo Index</strong><br /><a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/">http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/</a>Gabi Grevehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16362456518166174106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30579281.post-31647006469468747002008-06-24T14:58:00.000-07:002008-07-04T18:05:07.533-07:00New England Saijiki<a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/"><span style="font-size:78%;">[ . The style's West African pedigree is evident in its use of blue notes, call-and-response, improvisation, polyrhythms, syncopation, and the swung note of ragtime.<br /><br />From its early development until the present, jazz has also incorporated music from 19th and 20th century American popular music, which is based on European music traditions. The word jazz began as a West Coast slang term of uncertain derivation and was first used to refer to music in Chicago in about 1915; for the origin and histor.<br /><br />Jazz has, from its early 20th century inception, spawned a variety of subgenres, from New Orleans Dixieland dating from the early 1910s, big band-style swing from the 1930s and 1940s, bebop from the mid-1940s, a variety of Latin-jazz fusions such as Afro-Cuban and Brazilian jazz from the 1950s and 1960s, jazz-rock fusion from the 1970s and later developments such as acid jazz.<br /><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz"><span style="font-size:85%;">© More in the WIKIPEDIA !</span></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://images.google.co.jp/images?hl=en&amp;q=jazz&amp;gbv=2"><img style="CURSOR: hand" alt="CLICK for more photos " src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_AdeUgwXpSAM/SFreI503UWI/AAAAAAAAII0/-PC3qMrtx7E/s200/jazz.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:130%;">***************************** </span></strong><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Worldwide use</strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">Things found on the way</span></strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">HAIKU</span></strong></span><br /><br />On Tuesday, June 17, I found myself in the heart of upscale consumerism, at the corner of 57th St. and Park Ave. in Manhattan.<br /><br />Within a block there are these stores:<br /><br />Coach<br />Mont Blanc<br />Dior<br />Chanel<br />Burberry<br />Tiffany<br />Tourneau<br /><br />I normally don't shop at these stores, although my wife does have a Coach bag.<br /><br />The reason I was there was to attend a jazz performance, hosted by Oris (watchmaker) and WBGO, the best jazz radio station in America, if not the world.<br /><br />The performance took place behind the Tourneau (watches) store, in a glass-enclosed atrium, almost the size of a plaza. They are also one of the most colorful species of chameleons, making them ideal for beginners and experts alike. With proper care, they will not only survive, but thrive and breed in captivity.<br /><br />Animals of both subspecies display a large, cranial fin or casque. Males of both subspecies have higher casques than those of their female counterparts. However, the casques of C. c. calyptratus males are considerably larger than those of male C. c. calcarifer. Adult male C. calyptratus can reach lengths of up to 24 inches, including tail. Females are smaller, averaging about 13 inches in total length.<br /><br />Both subspecies of C. calyptratus survive in the climatically diverse area of the western coast of Yemen and the southwestern coast of Saudi Arabia.<br /><br /><strong>Yemen</strong> has a low coastal plain bordered by the Red Sea. This plain rises sharply into mountain peaks with can reach altitudes of 12,000 feet. This extreme topography creates different climates. Moisture evaporating from the Red Sea is trapped by the mountains. As a result, the low plains along the coast are not only hot, but humid as well. As the moisture moves up into the mountains, it forms clouds which rain down on the western slopes.<br /><br />Some areas here receive large amounts of rainfall. In Ibb, a town north of Ta'izz, the mountains receive as much as 80 inches of rain annually. This rainfall supports lush vegetation and an abundant insect population. Much of this rainfall does not reach the higher mountain regions, so the plateaus are much dryer. To the north, in Saudi Arabia, where the mountains are absent, the climate is quite arid.<br /><strong>CLICK here for more PHOTOS !<br /></strong><a href="http://www.skypoint.com/members/mikefry/calyp.html"><span style="font-size:85%;">© www.skypoint.com / mikefry !</span></a><br /><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:130%;">***************************** </span></strong><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Worldwide use</strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">Things found on the way</span></strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">HAIKU</span></strong></span><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><br />a leaf in the wind<br />licks dew drops..<br />veiled lizard<br /></span><br />Heike Gewi, Yemen, June 2008<br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="color:#ffffff;">.....</span>spring rain<br />the chameleon busy<br /><span style="color:#ffffff;">.....</span>being green</span><br /><br /><a href="http://www.haiku-poets-northern-california.com/">© Ernest Berry , Picton, New Zealand, 2004 </a><br /><span style="font-size:85%;">HPNC</span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************</strong></span><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Related words</strong></span><br /><br /><br /><br />***** <a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/2008/01/yemen.html">YEMEN SAIJIKI</a><br /><br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><strong>Back to the Worldkigo Index</strong><br /><a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/">http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/</a><br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::Gabi Grevehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16362456518166174106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30579281.post-34614727364992147372008-06-11T15:19:00.000-07:002008-06-11T15:29:58.935-07:00Independence Day<a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/"><span style="font-size:78%;">[ . Most notably, their caterpillars possess a unique organ behind their heads, called the osmeterium. Normally hidden, this forked structure can be everted when the caterpillar is threatened, and emits smelly secretions containing terpenes.<br />The adults are often tailed, giving the insect its name.<br /><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swallowtail_butterfly"><span style="font-size:85%;">© More in the WIKIPEDIA !</span></a><br /><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:130%;">***************************** </span></strong><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Worldwide use</strong></span><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:130%;">Japan<br /></span><span style="color:#ff0000;">kigo for all spring<br /></span></strong><br /><strong><span style="font-size:130%;">swallowtail, agehachoo, 鳳蝶(あげはちょう)</span></strong><br />アゲハチョウ<br />black swallowtail, kuru ageha 黒あげは(くろあげは)<br />crow swallowtail, karasu ageha 烏あげは(からすあげは)<br />long-tailed swallowtail, onaga ageha 尾長あげは(おながあげは)<br /><br />musk swallowtail, jakoo ageha 麝香あげは(じゃこうあげは)<br /><a href="http://images.google.co.jp/images?um=1&amp;hl=en&amp;q=%E3%81%98%E3%82%83%E3%81%93%E3%81%86%E3%81%82%E3%81%92%E3%81%AF"><img style="CURSOR: hand" alt="CLICK for more photos " src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_AdeUgwXpSAM/SE8w_be6lyI/AAAAAAAAH6s/7S4_NHFwGqE/s400/jakoageha.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">Things found on the way</span></strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">HAIKU</span></strong></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">some leaves lost<br />the fennel...points at<br />a swallowtail</span><br /><br />Heike Gewi, June 2008<br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">heat spell<br />a swallowtail butterfly<br />amongst the alders</span><br /><br /><a href="http://www.madrone.com/Haiku/whycoo2001.htm">© Heather Madrone </a><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************</strong></span><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Related words</strong></span><br /><br />***** <a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/2005/02/butterfly-choochoo.html">Butterfly (choo)</a> Japan. Providence Plantations refers to the mainland, while Rhode Island is actually the official name for Aquidneck Island (now composed of the city of Newport, and the towns of Middletown and Portsmouth).<br /><br />Having a history of staunch independence, Rhode Island was the first of the thirteen original American colonies to declare independence from British rule and the last to ratify the United States Constitution.<br /><br />Rhode Island has long held the nickname of "Little Rhody", though the state has officially adopted the nickname of "the Ocean State," as nearly one tenth of Rhode Island's inland area is covered by salt water, and no part of the state is more than a 30-minute drive from the water's edge.<br /><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhode_Island"><span style="font-size:85%;">© More in the WIKIPEDIA !</span></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://images.google.co.jp/images?gbv=2&amp;ndsp=18&amp;hl=en&amp;q=Rhode+Island&amp;start=0&amp;sa=N"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="CLICK for more photos " src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_AdeUgwXpSAM/SEhnwGi0U-I/AAAAAAAAHuE/gcGvQl1CCss/s320/rhode01.jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="http://images.google.co.jp/images?gbv=2&amp;hl=en&amp;q=Rhode+Island&amp;start=18&amp;sa=N&amp;ndsp=18"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="CLICK for more photos " src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_AdeUgwXpSAM/SEhnwUalrnI/AAAAAAAAHuM/6PXj4csS-E0/s320/rhode02.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:130%;">***************************** </span></strong><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Worldwide use</strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">Things found on the way</span></strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">HAIKU</span></strong></span><br /><br /><a href="http://images.google.co.jp/images?hl=en&amp;q=WaterFire&amp;btnG=Search+Images&amp;gbv=2"><img style="CURSOR: hand" alt="CLICK for more photos " src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_AdeUgwXpSAM/SEhnGw4lBeI/AAAAAAAAHt8/0XvQWDotV20/s320/waterfire.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">By the WaterFire*<br />The poet stands oblivious<br />To the moon’s absence</span><br /><br /><em>*WaterFire –</em> An event centered on a series of 100 bonfires that blaze just above the surface of the three rivers that pass through the middle of downtown Providence, RI.<br /><br />Malini Gargeshwari, June 2008<br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Ring around the moon<br />they say a storm is coming<br />Shop for bread and milk.</span><br /><br /><a href="http://skordaspage.blogspot.com/2008/01/rhode-island-haiku.html">© skorda </a>: Rhode Island haiku<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************</strong></span><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Related words</strong></span><br /><br />***** <a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/">WKD Reference</a><br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><strong>Back to the Worldkigo Index</strong><br /><a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/">http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/</a><br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::Gabi Grevehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16362456518166174106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30579281.post-35583456977878941062008-05-30T18:32:00.000-07:002008-06-04T15:09:44.016-07:00Bearded Iris (Iris albicans)<a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/"><span style="font-size:78%;">[ . In our place, we celebrate the fiesta, or our "fiesta day", every third Sunday of the month of May... so it is going to be this coming Sunday. And usually, the whole month of May is fiesta month. Sometimes, one is reminded only that it is the month of May when one meets such a procession downtown or in a sidestreet of the city. That is the Santa Cruz de Mayo. Many versions of the procession have evolved through the years. And this makes it interesting to find out what it was really like inthe time of our grandfathers.<br /><br />The Santacruzan was a novena procession commemorating St. Helena's mythical finding of the cross. St. Helena was the mother of Constantine the Great. According to legends, 300 years after the death of Christ, at the age of 75, she went to Calvary to conduct a search for the Cross. After some archeological diggings at the site of the Crucifixion, she unearthed three crosses. She tested each one by making a sick servant lie on all three. The cross where the servant recovered was identified as Christ's. St. Helena's feast day falls on August 8 but the anniversary of the finding of the Cross is on May 3rd, in the Philippines, this celebration took the form of the Mexican Santa Cruz de Mayo.<br /><br />As another legend puts it, Constantine the Great, facing a battle against the Mighty Roman Emperor, Maxentius in the year 312 A.D. turned despairingly to the new Christian God for help. Constantine cast his eyes heavenwards and saw in the nightsky a glowing sign of the cross with the words "In hoc signia vincit", meaning "By this sign thou shalt conquer". He adopted the Cross as his battle insignia with the words and forthwith went to vanquish the Roman Army and entered Rome a victor, pledging his faith in Christianity.<br /><br /><strong>Read more HERE</strong><br /><a href="http://www.philippinefestival.ca/santacruzan.html"><span style="font-size:85%;">© By Eileen S. Filipinos would howl high and low when they see this national symbol abroad, as my friends do in HongKong, Singapore, Australia and especially Europe - - but where is the true origin of this beer being dubious?<br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Where is the true origin of San Miguel Beer?</span><br /><br />Many rumors from Spanish people said – “it’s a Spanish beer“. Spain is Europe’s 3rd largest beer producer but next only to Germany and the UK and San Miguel is Spain’s biggest beer export! I guess everyone knew that this beer is produced in Malaga – that beautiful coastal city in Andalusia.<br /><br />However, there’s a lot of versions relating to the origin of San Miguel Beer. Some says that the very first Philippine San Miguel beer was produced in Manila in 1890 by Spanish monks using traditional methods in a district called San Miguel according to records. Another version says it was first brewed by a German Brew Master using traditional Bavarian methods under a royal Spanish grant.<br /><br />And the very first Spanish San Miguel beer was produced by San Miguel Fabricas de Cerveza y Malta S.A. in Malaga in 1957 (but why does it say 1516 on it’s label?).<br /><a href="http://charmainepallugna.com/page/2"><span style="font-size:85%;">© charmainepallugna.com!</span></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://images.google.co.jp/images?q=San+Mig+beer&amp;um=1&amp;hl=en&amp;start=18&amp;sa=N&amp;ndsp=18"><img style="CURSOR: hand" alt="CLICK for more photos " src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_AdeUgwXpSAM/SCkf4WLYjkI/AAAAAAAAHPQ/60JHLmn6MAM/s320/sanmic+label.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:130%;">***************************** </span></strong><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Worldwide use</strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">Things found on the way</span></strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">HAIKU</span></strong></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">escargots<br />breeding freely in the pond<br />best with San Mig beer</span><br /><br /><a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kigohotline/message/682">© Wilfredo R. But Yemen’s sun can be fierce, and so to protect themselves, Yemenis have invented broad straw hats to provide shade from the sun’s harsh rays. "<br /><br />The traditional Yemeni shade hats include the <strong>dhola</strong>, a tall, flat-topped hat woven from palm; the <strong>kofia</strong>, a short, circular hat woven from bamboo; and the <strong>Hadrami</strong> pyramid hat, a tall pointy hat woven from palm fronds. These hats fly off the shelves this time of year.<br /><br /><br />"They are expensive because they are made from the heart of the bamboo, he said. The bamboo hats are made in certain governorates like Hadhramout, Dmat in Ibb, Rada’a, al-Baidha, and are mostly found in Marib, he said. Add to that, making the hats is tiring, because the maker must take a big bundle of bamboo and take out the heart only, said al-Matari. Unlike the others, al-Matari has some Hadhrami pyramid hats, which are worn primarily in Hadhramout. “Those are only bought by the foreigners; there is a French lady who ordered them and I imported them from Seiyun to here,” he said. “Obviously, they like their appearance because it is uncommon,” he added half teasingly."<br /><span style="font-size:78%;"><a href="http://www.yobserver.com/news-varieties/10012048.html">http://www.yobserver.com/news-varieties/10012048.html</a> </span><br /><span style="font-size:78%;"><br /></span><br /><br /><a href="http://images.google.co.jp/images?hl=en&amp;q=dholas&amp;btnG=Search+Images&amp;gbv=2"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5198931052360780930" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_AdeUgwXpSAM/SCZQPzu2TII/AAAAAAAAHNw/PR_QbVHmjgQ/s400/dholas.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Kofias<br /></span><a href="http://images.google.co.jp/images?gbv=2&amp;hl=en&amp;q=kofias"><img style="CURSOR: hand" alt="More about KOFIAS" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_AdeUgwXpSAM/SCZQmju2TJI/AAAAAAAAHN4/rjFVxbPhI7g/s400/kofias.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:130%;">***************************** </span></strong><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Worldwide use</strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">Things found on the way</span></strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">HAIKU</span></strong></span><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><br />peasant digs around<br />in his chest..<br />"It's time, bamboo hat!"<br /><br /><br />moving<br />cackling like a hen..<br />straw hat<br /></span><br />Heike Gewi, Yemen, May 2008<br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************</strong></span><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Related words</strong></span><br /><br />***** <a href="http://haikutopics.blogspot.com/2006/05/hat-kasa.html">Hat, Strawhat and more (kasa)</a> Worldwide<br /><br /><br /><br />***** <a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/2008/01/yemen.html">YEMEN SAIJIKI</a><br /><br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><strong>Back to the Worldkigo Index</strong><br /><a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/">http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/</a>Gabi Grevehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16362456518166174106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30579281.post-19604575816445698532008-05-02T18:31:00.000-07:002008-05-10T18:29:21.672-07:00Bataan Beach<a href="http://worldkigodatabase.blogspot.com/"><span style="font-size:78%;">[ . The province is part of the Central Luzon region. The capital of Bataan is Balanga City and is bordered by the provinces of Zambales and Pampanga to the north. The peninsula faces South China Sea to the west and encloses its arm, Manila Bay, to the east.<br /><br />The <strong>Battle of Bataan</strong> is famous in history as one of the last stands of American and Filipino soldiers before they were overwhelmed by the Japanese forces in World War II. The <strong>Bataan Death March </strong>was named for this province, where the infamous march started.<br /><br /><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bataan"><span style="font-size:85%;">© More in the WIKIPEDIA !</span></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://images.google.co.jp/images?hl=en&amp;q=bataan%20philippines%20&amp;um=1&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;sa=N&amp;tab=wi"><img style="CURSOR: hand" alt="CLICK for more photos " src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_AdeUgwXpSAM/SBvBrbUMcFI/AAAAAAAAHFg/iXtVFKMzcsA/s400/bataan+beach.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br />:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::<br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:130%;color:#ff0000;">Bataan Day or Day of Valor</span></strong><br />(called <strong>Araw ng Kagitingan</strong> in native Filipino)<br />April 9<br /><strong><span style="color:#ff0000;">kigo for the hot season</span></strong><br /><br />This day is celebrated in honor of the American and Filipino troops who defended the Bataan peninsula in the Philippines against the Japanese during World War II.<br /><a href="http://www.google.co.jp/search?hl=en&amp;q=%22Bataan+Day%22&amp;btnG=Google+Search">Bataan Day / Reference </a><br /><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:130%;">***************************** </span></strong><br /><span style="font-size:130%;color:#cc6600;"><strong>Worldwide use</strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">Things found on the way</span></strong></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>*****************************<br /><span style="color:#cc6600;">HAIKU</span></strong></span><br /><br />In April 26 &amp; 27 of this year, our group went to Coral View Beach Resort in Morong, Bataan.
