New Site, Blog, Name and Branding

We have some big news to share with everyone. 6 of Four Creations will now be known as 6 of Four. Along with the new name comes the new site and a new blog. Be sure to change your RSS feed and the blog that you watch to now be the new address. www.6offour.net

We have been working on these changes for the last two months and are thrilled with the outcome. It's our heart and passion and we believe that it is now communicated most effectively. Enjoy browsing through the site as well as the blog. Please start following our work and adventures on our new blog as this will be our last post on this blog.

Blueberries and the 4th!

For this year's 4th of July we had a rather good day, with family and just with each other. We started the morning picking blueberries in Dallas, Georgia. Katie, her sister, Elizabeth Flowers, and her sister-in-law, Maggie Bergen picked quite a few blueberries on these bushes that Maggie has growing at their home. Later that morning I went out to pick some and to add a few blackberries while at it.

The neat thing about this is that these blueberries are completely organic. During the whole year, Maggie allows these to grow naturally with no pesticides. When we go to shop at Whole Foods or Harry's Farmers Market we find the quality of these blueberries are nice, however to be able to enjoy the very blueberries that we pick that are of the same quality of the organic blueberries at these fine markets is fulfilling.

Later that day we left to go home and spend some time with each other, since our week has been really busy lately. We need and value that husband and wife time together. We had dinner together and then went up to the roof to see fireworks from Centennial Olympic Park. From our rooftop we could see along the horizon, fireworks from Lenox Mall, Hifi Buys amphitheater, and Turner Field.

Hays Girls

A little while back Chris and I ventured out of downtown to capture the Hays Girls. With parents, grand parents and treats in tow we headed to a beautiful field of grass. The girls were just adorable and gave us a lot of cute moments to capture. Enjoy seeing these three beautiful little girls.

Rammels in town

This past weekend Brandy and Sticky flew into town to spend some time with us. The four of us always have such a great time together. They helped us at the wedding we were shooting on Saturday. They were amazing and also did a new portrait of us for our new website.....coming oh so very soon.

We ended the trip before we took them to the airport with a stop at The Varsity. Sticky had never been before and we all enjoyed a Frosted Orange to cool off.

Thank you guys! We had an amazing time as usual and Asia is still trying to figure out where you went. : )

Sandel Family

We absolutely adore the Sandel family! They are always wonderful to be with and to talk about life with. Their kids are absolutely adorable and and Todd and Bev have an energy that amazes me.

Last week we met up with Kimberly and Chris. They will be getting married this fall here in Atlanta. They are both students at Emory and have high aims in education. It was great to see how they met and what their goals are together. I know their wedding will be just beautiful and perfect at the Houston Mill House on the Emory Campus. It should prove to be the perfect setting for this season of life which they will be wed.

Atlantan Magazine Night Life Launch

Last night we were able to attend the Launch of The Nightlife Issue of The Atlantan. The soiree was at Maxim Prime in the Glenn Hotel just a few blocks from our studio. We enjoyed the night with our friends Jenn, Adam, Mel and Jeremy. We were excited for the magazine to launch as well as The Atlantan Brides magazine which is coming out to stands on July 1st. We have a wedding published in it and will be sharing that with you soon.

Dana and Brian

Dana and Brian were such a fun couple to meet with and we hoped we would be selected as their photographers. They are extremely down to earth and keep us laughing constantly. They thought of extremely creative ideas for their engagement session and wanted to centered around their vintage Land Rover which Brian gave to Dana last year. Their wedding will be this fall on the UGA campus and they wanted the images to have a fall feel. I have to say that Brian and Dana are quite the troopers to be decked out in sweaters and button ups in the middle of June. We love how your pictures turned out guys! We think it was worth it!

If you know me very well. You know that I love the written word and textural papers. If I can get my hands on it and run my fingers over it then I can get a good sense as to whether or not it is quality or not. There is something about quality paper and that brings such a beautiful quality to a product. My recent favorite site is the Thistleberry Press out of Savannah. We found them while we were on our business planning trip a month ago. Enjoy their site. You will be seeing more from them! ; )

Jamie and Steve

Chris and I met up with Jamie and Steve a little while back and had a great time. They thought they might not be the best models and making good pictures. As you can see below...that was definitely not the case. These two were naturals. We had a great time with them and loved hearing more about their wedding that will be this fall at the Intercontinental Hotel in Buckhead. They are making great plans and this wedding is sure to be gorgeous!

Father's Day

Yesterday was a fun filled day with the fathers in our lives. We started out the day with a picnic with my father and my brother-in-law. Celebrating both of them and having a relaxed time with perfect weather! Then we did some errands and headed back to our place to prepare a meal for Chris' dad. We also enjoyed a great time with him. It was a full day, but a great one in celebrating the men in our lives.

Sue and Robert

Chris and I were able to meet up with Sue and Robert last week. I was suffering from not having a voice so it made it a little comical in trying to communicate to them. : ) They did great and I just love their personalities together. There wedding will be later this year and we can't wait for this day that is sure to be fun and beautiful.

You never quite know what you will get or who will watch in Atlanta. This is not your normal engagement picture, but we thought it was fun and showed where they live near Little Five.

Robert has his new baby Leica and takes a lot of pictures and they wanted to incorporate that.

Bath Time Fun

A few months ago I was at my sister's house and the kids were having their bath. I think they are just about the cutest kids ever and wanted to capture this fun routine in their life. My sister is incredibly patient with me as I tend to put our clients first and it has taken me a while to get her these pictures. They just moved into their new house and she is going to frame a series of these in their bathroom. I love that idea. Here are some of my favorites.

Wonderful Friends

I cannot even begin to give enough thanks to all of our friends that rallied around us this past week. Along with all of your thoughtful emails, blog comments and messages there were a few acts of selflessness that completely humbled our hearts.

After a meeting today we opened our door and there was a fun box sitting there! It was a box of flowers which is likely to be one of the easiest ways to get a HUGE smile on my face. I was so excited and touched even before I opened it. They were from our dear friends Brandy and Sticky in Ohio.

Andrew and Rachel rescued us from a horribly long day at the airport yesterday. They stood by and helped us search flights and get us home as we tried to get around tornadoes in the midwest. As they helped us with our travel woes they also picked us up from the airport and made sure we made it home safe and sound last night.

Our friends from church, Gisele and Kerry saved us big time by stepping in to take care of Asia and make sure that she was always taken care of and that the loft was watched over. Here is a pic of her sleeping (as is her usual stance while we are working). Although I am pretty sure this is not how she always looked for Kerry. :)

Sweet Home

We are back in Atlanta and had a wonderful time celebrating my grandpa. Thank you to everyone for all of your comments, emails and being there for us in numerous ways.

I cannot tell you what a joy it was to stand by my family and mourn with them. My mother just amazes me in the way she deals with life and death. She handled her father's death is a raw form with such beauty and grace. My sister and I were talking about how she daily amazes us and we are extremely gifted to have her as our mother. Thank you for setting that example for us.

I am going to post a picture Chris took at dusk on Monday night. I just love the lines and the feel of it. The ending of the story.

A Life Well Lived

Tomorrow we will board a flight to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We will then make our way to the land where my life began: Waterloo, Iowa. This is the land of my heritage. I am and forever will be amazed by the gift of legacy I have been given. My grandfather passed away this morning. I am surprising myself in how well I am handling this. I am truly rejoicing in his life, legacy and future. He taught me to live a life of love, discipline and dedication to my Lord, family and work. I will always be indebted to his example and love to me. His last breath was taken in the same hospital as my first breath. As families grow and move to other cities and states it can be hard to stay connected to where you come from. This is a bittersweet reminder of where my life started.

I could go on for pages in telling you amazing ways of how he has helped mold me into the person I am today. I have wept in remembrance of sweet memories of our times together. He was born in 1920 and lived through this world seeing many hard times as well as joyous ones. I saw him leading a wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and he is an example of a life that was well lived.

There are a few memories of him that I will always keep. There is the twinkle of his sparkling blue eyes. His strong large hands that worked the land and made a living for his family. The same hands that engulfed my small hands and made me feel like an eternal child; safe in his grasp. His adorable laugh that truly shook his whole chest as he would laugh at a joke or a life situation. His devotion to my Grandmother and love for his family. His dedication to praying for each of us by name daily and loving to recite scripture to us. This was a man of character. They do not come along too often any more. What an honor it has been to have been a part of his life and legacy.

Here is a song by Waterdeep that my friend Gisele shared with me today. What a perfect description. Life is a journey and at times can be hard, but what a good, good end he is experiencing to this life.

We are having a big week this week and some family emergencies are becoming apparent that might warrant our travels to Iowa later this week. My grandfather is not doing well and it looks like our whole family will be making a trip soon.

Time Away

Chris and I have been in Saint Simon's Island for the last week doing business planning and some relaxing. Sometimes you have to remove yourself from the business to actually be able to make important decision about growth and our future. We treasured this time and will make it a tradition for us. We loved just dreaming and planning together. Along with having some well needed date nights too!

On our way back yesterday we made a quick stop in Savannah (we were hoping for a longer stop). We spent the afternoon having lunch and doing a little shopping at a few of my favorite stores. I gain so much inspiration from some of these stores. My all time favorite one is The Paris Market.

Then after shopping we met up with some friends. More on that to come!

Chris obviously became bored while I was shopping so he stared taking pictures of me. : ) Then we grabbed the only picture of the two of us we have from our trip. It's OK that we only have one...I love it.

The Parade

Even though it is a cliche, I truly am glad that it did not rain in Drew and Kathryn's parade. There was threat of rain all week, but once again the clouds parted and it turned out to be a beautiful day. They actually had it approved to have a parade. There was a police escort and the Feed and Seed Marching Abominable did a wonderful job of making everyone laugh and have fun. Oh, did I mention that the band was a complete surprise...We knew, but even the parents had no clue.

Oma seems to be handling the surprise quite well. : )

It was like they were kids on a playground. Actually, I think that is how they approach life, which definitely inspired me.

It made such an impact on me to see how Kathryn and Drew treated their family. Here is Kathryn holding hands with her new mother-in-law as she walks with the parade.

Drew and Kathryn

May 10th was not our normal wedding or a normal Saturday. Drew and Kathryn put such a personal touch on their wedding and left an impact on each guest with their presence. Every part of their wedding was unique. They even had the Feed and Seed Marching Abominable lead a parade for them from their backyard wedding to the Solarium in Decatur. We have way too many pictures to be able to fit in one post. So we'll post the Feed and Seed Marching Abominable Parade pictures in another post very soon. Andrew, Rachel and Mark (you should check out their blog on this wedding) were all in attendance and were having fun shooting some by our side as well. Ben also came with us and did an amazing job as usual. It was such a joy to document this wedding for a fellow photographer. We just think the world of you guys. We can't wait until you return!

Here is sweet little Isabella at the reception. Doesn't she just look dreamy? I love this shot that Chris captured of her.

Here are some floral details. I saw the honeysuckle in Kathryn's glass and wondered what yummy drink she was enjoying. Then while I was working through the images I realized that I also took pictures of her friend from Holland picking some honeysuckle and smelling it. As the story was unfolding before me I realized that her sweet friend picked it for Kathryn to enjoy in her glass. You can see this in the slideshow.

Maggie and David

Maggie and David were married on May 3rd in Rome, Georgia at the Coosa Valley Country Club. Chris was actually in a friend's wedding that day, so Ben came with me to capture the day. Rain threatened to turn their perfect out door ceremony into something a little less than dream like. We were all so happy when the storm decided not to ruin their day. It actually turned out to be just gorgeous. Ben and I loved what we were able to capture and I wanted to share some of them with you.

Thank you Maggie and David for a wonderful day. You were both extremely gracious and kind to us. We wish you all the best!

Wendy and Alex

Wendy and Alex live just north of the city and last week we made a trip up to see them for their portrait session. Wendy is just about as adorable as can be. They are planning their wedding at the end of June with the reception at the Atlanta History Center. We are looking forward to their wedding and know that their truly southern feel that they want will be a dream. Thanks Wendy and Alex you guys were great!

Mother's Day

I am one of four children. We are all married and have the need to share holidays with our spouse's families as well. This year they were all with the other families. Chris and I were able to meet up with my mom and dad to celebrate Mother's Day just the four of us. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch and then sat outside and talked for a long time. It was good to catch up and discuss life in a relaxed setting.

Thank you mom for believing in us and for encouraging us along the way. Your unfailing support and faith keeps us going to become the people you see when you look in our eyes. Forever you will be an inspiration and a model for us to live by. I am surprised by how often I "quote" you. I love that you have given us such wisdom through words. I love you...
